hi guys!
my husband is thinking of moving back to the Philippines to finish his engineering. We're both born and raised in Pinas and now living here in US. he is 28 years old and a us citizen. he studied here for 2 semesters in a community college (prerequisite subjects only) and took a vocational course in automotive and diesel technology for a year and a half.
the vocational course he took was from his student loan ($20,000+) and where paying for it right now. i am really encouraging him to finish his engineering. then he got this idea a few weeks ago when we visited Pinas... baket nde daw sha dun mag college kesa naman mabaon kami sa utang dito!? before he move here in US, he already finished one semester in don bosco, mandaluyong.
college here in US is really really expensive.
we need advise...is moving back to study in pinas a good idea? can u suggest good engineering schools? anything that we need to know..please?
thanks thanks alot!

thinking too of studying in the philippines. i just dont know if its gonna be a right move.
i think as an international student, you will have to secure more documents and you pay more.
plus i wanna know if i will be allowed to work, do i have to secure work permit? (former filipino)

You could try Mapua, De La Salle University, UST and UP. from what I know these are the schools for Engineering. La Salle is also Trimestral. Once you have your papers work in the states, sa tingin ko mas walang problem dito sa Manila. Inquire first in the States. Definitely education is much cheaper in Manila than in the States, and quality is also good.

hi guys!
my husband is thinking of moving back to the Philippines to finish his engineering. We're both born and raised in Pinas and now living here in US. he is 28 years old, us citizen and a Mercedes Benz mechanic. he studied here for 2 semesters in a community college (prerequisite subjects only) and took a vocational course in automotive and diesel technology for a year and a half.

Your husband can receive quality engineering education in many schools in the Philippines. UP and Mapua are just a few of them.
You would have to figure out how moving to the Philippines will affect your financial situation, however. For instance, since he already has student loans, isn't he required to be paying them back on a monthly basis six months after graduating or after going below half-time courseload-wise? (Who's going to pay back his $$$ loans while you're in the Philippines? If you're in the Philippines, will you earn enough $$$ to send to the U.S.?)
Tuition in the Philippines is cheap and your husband might have the option of taking out some more loans to pay for his Philippine education (including cost of living) if the particular Philippine institution has applied for Title IV accreditation, and he will be able to defer paying back existing loans until he earns his degree. You might want to look at this option, too.
I think studying in the Philippines is a good idea (as long as the school is good and the living arrangements are okay), but do also consider the U.S. wages lost (since he works in the field that yields a lot of $$$) in the three or four more years your husband is out of the country.
Good luck!

thanks a lot xUPteach!!
actually, he only pays one third of his student loan. we don't have problems with the living arrangements since he still have families back there.
the plan is... i will stay here in US to work and pay for his loan and other obligations plus send him money for his tuition fee. (yng $2000 sa pinas buong schoolyear na sa trisem na school, dto isang semester *** yun.)
its a big sacrifice for us but as soon as he gets his degree atleast next level na sha sa trabaho nya dito pagbalik nya.
thank u so much!!
