PUP Students Soar Once Again
The Polytechnic University of the Philippine (PUP) has stamped its rivals and romped away with the first place in the 10th Annual National Search for Outstanding Accounting Students of the Philippines.
PUP's Bee Jay C. Papa garnered the highest points over all the participants of the country's most prestigious competition of accounting students.
For his feat, Papa of the College of Accountancy, received PHP 50,000 cash and a copying machine from the Philippine Duplicators, Inc., an exclusive concessionaire for Gestetner.
Another PUPian, Nicanor R. Ngo, pocketed the fifth place and also received PHP 5,000 cash prize.
Dr. Milagros Hernane, Dean of the College of Accountancy, said that Papa and Ngo entered into the final phase of the competition, together with 21 others including competitors from De La Salle University, Ateneo de Davao, University of the Philippines and the University of Sto. Tomas.
In that competition the DLSU Taft representative bagged the second place while UST grabbed the third place.
Dean Hernane, together with her College's Chairperson of Higher Accountancy Ligaya Espino, and Prof. Sylvia Sarmiento, adviser of PUP's Junior Philippine Institute of Public Accountants (JPIA), accompanied the PUP team in the competition.
The preliminaries of the competition was held in Ilocos Region while the final examination was held at the PSBA in Quezon City.
Another impressive performance was when a PUP accountancy graduate landed in the fifth place of the October 2008 Accountancy Licensure examination.
In the same examination, PUP chalked up 52 percent passing rate. The university had likewise taken the honor of being declared as the country's third performing school for the CPA licensure exam.
Dean Hernane attributes this sterling performance of PUP thru their relentless effort to upgrade the quality of education their college is imparting to their more than 3,000 students.
The dean also mentioned the 2.0 policy that her college is implementing, which means any student who gets a grade lower than 2.0 should take a qualifying examination to be able to continue the course.
As, to why they are scoring impressive performance in accountancy, Dean Hernane credited this to the department examination that the college regularly conducts.
"Most of our students who figure well in the board exams or competition pinpoint that our department exam helps a lot," Dean Hernane said.
____________
Indeed, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines is one of the best accounting schools in the Philippines!*okay*

UP Diliman has decided to boycott this event starting this year. Their participants last year were "disqualified" for technical reason. GF ni pedro penduko was part of that "disqualified" team last year.

I dont know if what competition is the thread referring to. But if this is sponsored by ACPACI, Im sure UP didnt participate in the competition. I dont know whats the motive of the newswriter to put UP as one of the participants. That is, if this is really ACPACI.
Baka ibang UP campus ang tinutukoy. Definitely not UP diliman.

The thread starter should have specified which UP campus participated in this search. I am sure hindi UP-Diliman ang tinalo nila, because UP-Diliman boycotted this event.

I think UP-Diliman already chose the CFA Investment Research Challenge as the replacement in their competition calendar. Parang PGA Tour ah!

I share the same sentiment. Well, not because we share the same nick name, but because, like you, I don't think boycotting is a solution. If anything, I think it's a sign of defeat.

Hindi naman. Bakit, pag natatalo ang UP sa ibang compets, sumasali pa rin naman kami next year ah. For instance, sa Finex, PANA or Stratmark. Hindi naman palaging first place ang UP CBA teams, minsan pa nga di nakakapasok sa finals. But we know how to accept our defeats.
Yung sa ACPACI ibang case. UP never lost the competition, ~10 years since its inception. The way to do it was disqualification. Grabe, biruin mo, before lunch tapos na ang team competition, and pinaghintay kami ng katagal tagal. Tapos nag-surprise pa yung judge nung pag-announce niya. Sabi, and the first place goes to University of.......................... San Jose. Alam mo yun, nananadya. Basta, mashadong mahaba ang details for their said disqualification. Based on the score, UP was first, its was told to us by the ACPACI president, our former prof in tax (she's not one of the judges ah). UP filed a petition, but it was hopeless. Let it be na lang. Haha.
Let them do their Search for the Most Outstanding Accounting Student in the Philippines. Pero I bet, without UP-D, their search will be futile. :D

And yes, UP knows how to accept defeat. Marami na din contest kung saan talo ang UP pero sumasali pa rin kami. Iba lang talaga ang case with ACPACI.
Pero personally, I still salute those who won the ACPACI competition this year. I heard DLSU-Manila won the team competition. *okay*

I think that was not what Warwick Diliman was trying to say. I think what he was trying to say is that whenever UPd doesn't get what it wants, say a reverse of a petition, UPd resorts to boycotts.

Napaka-plain and simple na nga ng sinabi ni Warwick Diliman. Hindi na kelangan ng other interpretations.
Anyway, my point is, UP knows how to accept its defeats. Kelan ba nagfile ng petition/nag-boycott ang UP, noong ACPACI compets lang naman.
Paano nyo nasabing boycott ng boycott ang UP?

- nandadaya? napatunayan ba?
- alam pala ng viva el presidente ng acpaci na first ang up, bakit hinayaan niya na magkaganoon ang resulta? anong klase siyang viva el presidente kung ganoon?
- let it be na lang? kung nasa tama ka at alam mo ang ipinaglalaban mo, bakit let it be na lang? asaan na ang matatapang-matatalino attitude?
- without UP-D, their search will be futile? subra ka naman 'day! parang up lang ang may monopolya at may karapatang magkaroon ng mga outstanding students sa islas filipinas. masyado naman bitter at off ang isteyment mong iyan. unless "lifting your own bench" ang trip mong excercise oh edi sige... bigyan ng chance. madali akong kausap. ;)

Precisely. Yan din ang sabi ko kay Sir Larry e. Hehe.
Anyway, to warwick diliman, wala namang dayaan na naganap. Na-disqualify ang UP because they used their real first name in the competition.
Regarding the ACPACI president naman, we give credit to her, at tama lang ang ginawa niya. She's very professional. She did not influence the results of the competition and it is just the right thing to do.
Lastly, to tantararantantan. Yup, tama ka. Bakit pa sasali ang UP?!

1. It was a disqualification. The team was allowed to present amid the supposed disqualification. And just like what Pedro Pinduko said, it was based on the grounds of using the group members' real names in the report.
2. Again, the president was not part of the panel of judges. UP was supposedly the winner barring any disqualification.
3. The administration filed the necessary petition and fought for what they felt was right to do. However, the decision was upheld by the organization.

All I'm saying is that there are other means to show objections to the organizers or judges. You can't win everyone on everything and boycotting isn't the best solution. Winning the contest would look more victorious than boycotting... If UP wins again despite the questionable decisions and ruling..., that would be a huge slap on the organizers and judges' faces. Of course, I'm only sharing my opinion on this matter.
I just felt that the effect of UP's constant boycotting (if this is really true) has created a negative image for the school than what it actually wants to aim for.

I dont agree. Its pretty obvious people here don't understand the rational thinking behind the move (or they dont know what they're talking about, wala namang constant boycotts ang UP, dito lang sa compet na to). Lets establish one thing first, there was really something wrong in disqualifying UP. It was a sinister act. Second, the college filed a formal protest. Would the professors decide to file one if they didnt have sufficient basis to do so? Third, was the ruling by the organizers fair, consistent and transparent? Obviously no. So if you were the school, would you still join a competition that wasn't fair, consistent or transparent? Siyempre, hindi na diba. That would be a waste of time. Whats the use?
People here are trying to portray UP as if the college is a sore loser because it didnt win the year's prize. Napaka obvious po ninyo, puede ba. Yung college po yung biktima. I think the better picture is that the people here are just like some of those who were responsible for the disqualification, if my guess is right, they would discard fairness and impartiality to pull people down. Typical Filipino crab mentality really. Unfair po yun dun sa mga bata na naghirap sa analysis and presentation na talaga namang magaling.
I've been to a lot of compets where UP participated; UP would acknowledge defeat if alam naman na mas magaling talaga yung winning team ganyan. And kahit manalo unfairly ang UP, hindi naman sila ***** not to realize that kung magaling talaga sila. UP fully knows that the credibility of a competition rests on its fundamental premise: let the best team win, whoever that is.

1. for the second time, nasa rules ba ng kompetisyon na bawal gamitin ang real name?
2. oo, si manay viva el presidente ay hindi parte ng panel of judges PERO as a viva el presidente, kung alam n'yang may irregularities sa nasasakupan niya, manonood na lang ba siya at tatanggapin ang ihahain sa kanya ng mga panel of judges niya?
3. lumaban, di nakuha ang gustong resulta, hindi na lumaban ulit, nag-boycott... need i say more?

Ang bawal lang ilagay ay ang name ng school or magbigay ng clue like using school color sa powerpoint.
Regarding the ACPACI president, I don't know the updates. But they are complaining more on the judges not the ACPACI organization.
