Anyone familiar with Tyler? They've been compared to Helmut Lang, Martin Margiela, etc. I know they have boutiques in Rockwell and Glorietta and I've peeked in these once or twice but never long enough to try anything on.
I was at Adora this evening and was checking out their current collection. They have some interesting design-y stuff that is very interesting but a bit too avant garde for me to be wearable with my current wardrobe of jeans and button-up shirts.
A lot of their pieces are very sleek and modern, with lots of black and interesting textured fabrics. If they had only toned it down a bit, shown more restraint and spread the little design features across more pieces it would make them a lot more wearable and I would have walked out of Adora with one or two shirts instead of none.

You could poke fun with them by paying them with coins while smiling.
Or just be ruder than them. Give them their own medicine. It's all fair game at that point.

i have a few of their dress shirt. fitting is nice, it's like it was tailored made for you. haven't bought anything from them recently. i just don't like some of the fabrics that they use for the longsleeves for men.

lolz...i never bought anything from that store and never plan to buy any. i'm just annoyed by the b|tchy "fashion assistants" who hang out starbucks, acting like they own tyler and the smoking area of starbucks, together with an equally annoying balding guy who sells condominium units and who never takes off his sunglasses.

I find their stuff interesting, though most are wearable for special occasions only.
Their staff (Tyler together with Adora's) in my opinion are well trained and intimidating at times yet I've never encountered b!tchy ones.
Do you rate them as reasonably priced items? or overpriced?
I remember though that they carry few stocks per size, so you can be certain that every piece you buy is a unique one, right?

Tyler is actually owned by one of the Tantocos. Vic Agustin of Cocktales in Manila Standard Today actually did a story about them and how the brand/stores are competing with the famil owned Store Specialists line

Great info, Ed. Any info on who's designing the collections? You may want to point them to this thread.
Are you working on the Rimowa store across from Fred Perry?

Yes, there were some things that were definitely special occasion wear. If they could tone it down just a little bit I would be all over their stuff.

I can't speak for the tyler boutiques but the SA's at Adora are the most courteous, helpful and knowledgeable that I've encountered in the Philippines.
The ones at Homme et Femme are the opposite. :(

The shirt I tried on was around P3k I think which is reasonably priced for a shirt but quite cheap for a limited-production designer item. Compare to something from Dior Homme at P15k for a t-shirt (also at Adora).
Quality wise, I think they could improve quite a bit in the finishing. There were some threads sticking out of the sides of the patch pockets.
I remember though that they carry few stocks per size, so you can be certain that every piece you buy is a unique one, right?
That's certainly a plus.

Their of the more mature market of another brand of Rustan's "U" and might be same guys who designs Tyler.
I like their clothes, i think designers read a lot of fashion magazines and well toured around the fashion cities and they have their own market/niche.
got 3 dress shirt and a trouser.
Havent encountered those b|tchy SA's. Glorietta and Shang/Crossings SAs are nice though.
TIP: not all items are on display, they got more in their stockroom and they only show it if you ask them. Don't know, perhaps old stocks?

chic designs but, READ THIS OWNERS--JOLOGS FABRIC! Yuck talaga! Ampapangit! Who are you fooling? I can find better fabric in Divisoria than the ones you use. Heck, our table cloth will look better. And saka ang limited ng hues. Dyos ko po, hindi lang black and white or blue ang kulay sa mundo ng fashion. Sorry kung antagonistic ng dating ko pero nabadtrip talaga ko sa presyo kase it's so presumptuous of the owners to think people who like fashion aren't conscientious shoppers.
and oh yes, FEELING yung SAs! 'Scuse moi, b*tches!

^ Interesting input. I thought the fabric was fine but the final detail work was off.
I do get your point about the preponderance of black/white, although the last time I stepped in the Tyler in Rockwell they had some stuff in deep purple and red as well. Possibly a seasonal thing?

Oh, that's why it seems they have limited variety of shirts in stock. Next time then I'll ask.
As for the craftsmanship, I think it's okay considering that it's a Filipino brand. We have to be proud. A lot of my Korean friends guys/girls really like their clothes.
I wonder when will they go on sale?:)

So I should lower my quality standards just because it's made in the Philippines? Bull$hit.
They're a relatively expensive (for the local market) and exclusive, limited-production brand with prices starting at P3k, not some mass produced mall crap.
If anything they should be more conscious of quality.

Tyler have hot female sales associates. Im not sure if Tyler SAs are hotter than those working for the Linea Italia group but they sure are.
Especialy the one from the Tyler shop in G4.

I agree that the craftsmanship can be improved but nobody told you to lower your standard. Don't cuss me out, you don't know me!

I almost worked here at Adora a sister company of Tyler... since I came from Rustan's they want to get me but we did not agree on the terms and I have a job waiting outside the country.
They have great design / merchandising team If I may say *okay*

the products are nice and well-made. I own a few items from Tyler and I'm very satisfied with the craftsmanship. But the sales assistants are snotty. They won't assist you if they think you don't look like their typical buyers. (read: the usual makati yuppies).

I actually like the SAs at Tyler - they even get me stuff from the stock room when I ask for color availability of the merchandise.
I like their big bags, although it's not very durable. Two of the bags I bought there are already tearing up in the handles. Too bad.

Ok, after owning and wearing the Tyler shirt I bought last Dec 18 and checking out the rest of the Tyler stuff in Adora, and their boutique in Rockwell I can say that I probably WON'T be buying another shirt from them.
I can't fault the designs -- they are bold and innovative -- but the execution is consistently flawed! The most obvious and nagging for me is the construction of the collars and cuffs. The fusing is much too stiff, almost cardboard like. On many of the pieces on display, the fusing is sloppy with bubbles showing on the front. On most of my dress shirts, this bubbling happens only after years of wear and washing. It definitely should not appear on a new shirt.
So disappointing. :(
