OVERACHIEVED. tama, another good excuse! another big word we can use to describe our performance this season. pero just between us girls, sana man lang they won more than half their 5-setters noh. i mean they played six 5-setters but won only one. sayang! but it's ok kasi super valid palusot naman to say we ALMOST won five games! imagine that noh, kung nanalo tayo sa mga games na yon nasa final front na sana tayo!
oo nga, tama ka. better to say the team has promise. no once can contradict that because no one can predict the future di ba? at the same time it distracts the attention away pa from our current dismal performance. nakalusot na naman tayo this year, what a great idea talaga!
I dont' know if this is just an alternick since kakagawa pa lang at anyway, i will retort your reasoning here.
Overachieving is definitely not an excuse for their F4 non-inclusion.
If you have a team consisting of half-rookies. Not just one but five rookies in your roster. What are your chances?
Yet you see the team not just fighting but the other "mature" teams really giving their very best and treating them with respect. Ateneo is a rookie laden team which you can't just ignore. Kung hindi ka mag-iingat, matatalo ka nila.
Anyway, if you still see it that way. Fine. Tutal, there can be be two ways to look at a half-filled glass of water. Positive or negative. It's pathetic that you see it negatively.
I agree though that they are not yet assured of a F4 appearance next season but at least by then, we can expect more and even complain if they perform miserably.
But for now, let's give them their proper due -- accolades. No less.
For the WVT, cheers! *okay*

I'm sure taga La Salle to as shown by the "bansot" mind.
BO LA SALLE BO BO LA SALLE!!!!
Heps. Chill lang. :D

Peace man!

go ATENEO!
edit:

chill out dudes, we're on the same side! we all do not want the others to make fun of our team's awful performance in season 71. maybe it's because we pretended our team to be a lot better than they really are, so everyone expected the team to get into the final front. maybe the overhype has turned around and bitten us in the a-s-s. but not to worry. whatever the maybe is, no doubt we always excuse ourselves out of a rut. and we have lots of them. there's the "our team is rookie laden" excuse, the "we ALMOST won 5 five-setters" excuse, "we overchieved" excuse and the "our team is the team to watch in the future" excuse. did i miss anything?

What's funny is that not everyone like me was expecting a Final Four finish from our girls. I was even predicting that they would be 6th or 7th this year, since when a team is rebuilding, they usually go down in the bottom like in the case of La Salle, UST, Adamson, UE, etc. who all had 7th place finishes in the past.

you know what would be really cryogenic cool? making everyone inggit about the winning tradition of our uaap ladies' volleyball team! talk about total domination! i mean can they even come close to our ladies' 23 championships? especially the latest six-peat? i doubt it noh!

Well, Ateneo is taking its baby steps.
We have nothing against other team's domination in the sport. Instead, we are proud of the dynasty they have built through the years.
What we are happy for this year is that Ateneo has Volleyball in its priority sports in the coming years. Nothing more, nothing less.
And a dynasty won't become strong if not for a sturdy foundation it has been laid on.

Of the final 4 teams, I think Adamson is the weakest. If they could pull their act together next season, Ateneo might sneak one on Adamson and enter the final 4 next season. Getting to the Finals is a different story because DLSU, FEU and UST are really hard nuts to crack. A 4th place finish is a possibility for the lady eagles to have next season.

adamson will be very weak next year. arneo :D can surely take the slot away from them.
laguilles will not be there anymore and i doubt that benting and soriano can carry the team considering how hiponia "sets" if that's what they call it.
i just hope that the UP team can even make it to the top 5 because i think up, ue, and adu will compete for the 5th place so medyo shoe in na talaga ang ateneo for fourth next year

What winning tradition are you talking about? What six-peat? What 23 championships? Since AdMU joined the UAAP neither the Men's teams nor the Women's teams had ever won a championship. In fact, none even ever tasted a Finals stint!

Magpakilala ka muna kung anong team ba yang sinusuportahan mo, sabi mo awful performance so I guess nasa bottom 4 yan.

i think if over-all, then.. pau would win over dzi :mecry::mecry::mecry:
kasi pau has way more playing time. palaging andyan.
dzi is replaced by paje or the former libero quimpo.

why don't you backread kaya? given all the posts praising the team akala ko tuloy ang galing-galing nila. so was i wrong to expect a finals finish? was i wrong to be disappointed that we lost more games than we won? 2x hindi noh! kaya nga when i realized na they were not what they were hyped up to be naghanap na ako ng mga palusot para hindi tayo mapahiya noh.
but alam mo, you raised a good point ha. diverting attention by saying "puro gwapo maganda lang ang players" is a really great excuse! i'm sure this will bring about a lot of debate but, hey, anything to keep them from pointing to our ladies' kawawa fifth place finish this season diba? sayang no, had the ladies won their 5 five-setters nasa championship na sana tayo ngayon!

Haha. I think we'll see the result of the Lady Eagles' Thailand training sa April 19. I'm not sure which team but there are rumors na Lyceum (na naman!?) ang opening game nila. Haha. Usually, the campaign of the Lady Eagles always start with Lyceum sa V-League, and I don't know why.

Ako rin mejo nalulungkot kasi lagi nalang 5 sets sa top caliber teams pero hindi maipanalo, actualyl I think hindi lungkot, more on awa kay Coach Roger kasi I know and I feel na every game he's doing his best to guide his team pero laging nakukulangan sa performance. Kaya nga minsan naiinis ako kay Cainglet pag lagi siyang napagsasabihan ni Coach tapos di niya masunod. Maybe another point din kasi na I expected a lot from her since she's the MVP a 3time MVP. AND I'm looking forward sa NEXT 5 SETTER GAME nila against a TOP CALIBER team, and eventually WINNING it. Go Lady Eagles! I wish you good lucK!

i think it's just those fans who are not brave enough to accept the truth that next year, it's anyone's game. yes, i think ateneo will get stronger(obviously) but i agree, fans should make "CHAMPION SILA NEXT YEAR MAGHANDA KAYO" statements. :rotflmao:
but i think it's really gonna better, not sure if theyre gonna go champion though, i think final 4 next year. btw i was one of the fans who thought that even with super rookies, ateneo wont make it to final 4, and i was correct. they still dont have experience. though compare charo soriano's debut year, they were ranked way lower and had less to be proud of. this year, those rookies can hold their heads up high and proud. :bop:

Alam mo, i just don't get you. I have been following the ADMU WVT since day 1 of their UAAP games and not even once na narinig ko sa mga nagcocover ng laro na sobrang hype ang ateneo at puros palusot o pinagtatawanan tayo.
Just go to youtube and listen. Despite their many losses compared to wins, all praises pa rin sila sa ADMU WVT. I need not say why since it is obvious.

SHOUTOUT to GERVACIO & the rest of ADMU Rookies. Kahit hindi nyo nakuha ang ROY, I still believe Gervacio deserves the award & RECOGNITION!! Nakaukit yan sa statictics ng season 71 Women's Volleyball & no one can deny it no.1 sa ROY race!! What they lack is the transparency in choosing the awardees.

I think those who voted for the UAAP Volleyball Awards got bonked once too often in the head
They've done it again. Handed out awards to those who shouldn't have gotten it in the first place. Last year's MVP should have been Charo Soriano but well....
And it's a repeat cheat.
MEN'S DIVISION
Best Attacker - Jayson Ramos (UST)
C'mon, we all know it should be Chris Macasaet of DLSU.
Best Blocker - Lloyd Arden Belgado (UP)
Best Server - Rey Karl Dimaculangan (UST)
Best Digger - Henry James Pecaņa (UST)
Yes, Pecaņa is a huge part of UST's success but he was better as an attacker than a digger. This should go to Gilbert Longavela of Adamson.
Best Setter - Gerald Magtoto (UP)
Grade A jerk or not. He got the job done.
Best Receiver - Bernandino Lorenz Casanova (DLSU)
Where in the blue hell did this come from? Richard Rocero of NU got robbed here.
Rookie of the Year - Duane Craig Teves (ADMU)
WOMEN'S DIVISION
Best Attacker - Aiza Maizo (UST)
Best Blocker - Jacqueline Alarca (DLSU)
Sorry but this should is rightfully Aiza Maizo's.
Best Server - Mecaila Irish May Morada (FEU)
Best Digger - Lizlee Ann Gata (AdU)
Was anyone watching? Jennylyn Reyes of NU did a masterful job! Kasi NU? Ganyan ba yan?
Best Setter - April Linor Jose (FEU)
Repeat after me... Jennifer Hiponia of Adamson. Jennifer Hiponia of Adamson.
Best Receiver - Manilla Santos (DLSU)
Rookie of the Year - Melissa Gohing (DLSU)
WTF! DLSU's success was largely because of its vets and their superb team play and not because of this super maarte player. Angeline Gervacio of ADMU should have been tabbed for this. Or Pau Soriano of Adamson (thanks, Eddie for reminding me about her). Yes, she's worthy as well. Gohing. What have you guys been smoking?

In my opinion, I think the officials should have, rephrased the title of the awards. Because the word "BEST" should have been replaced by by let say "most noted" or something to that sort. Clearly some of the awardee arenot the best they maybe good but they not the best!!! And recognition shouldbe given to whom it is due!!! Sayang ang effort ng mga players!!!
I hope sa season 72, whoever is the host or those who draft the rules & regulations of the games. Sana before all the game started ayos na lahat ng gliches. Pangit kasi yung pa-iba iba in the course of the tournament. It gives impression na may pinapaboran na team.

I think those who voted for the UAAP Volleyball Awards got bonked once too often in the head
They've done it again. Handed out awards to those who shouldn't have gotten it in the first place. Last year's MVP should have been Charo Soriano but well....
And it's a repeat cheat.
MEN'S DIVISION
Best Attacker - Jayson Ramos (UST)
C'mon, we all know it should be Chris Macasaet of DLSU.
Best Blocker - Lloyd Arden Belgado (UP)
Best Server - Rey Karl Dimaculangan (UST)
Best Digger - Henry James Pecaņa (UST)
Yes, Pecaņa is a huge part of UST's success but he was better as an attacker than a digger. This should go to Gilbert Longavela of Adamson.
Best Setter - Gerald Magtoto (UP)
Grade A jerk or not. He got the job done.
Best Receiver - Bernandino Lorenz Casanova (DLSU)
Where in the blue hell did this come from? Richard Rocero of NU got robbed here.
Rookie of the Year - Duane Craig Teves (ADMU)
WOMEN'S DIVISION
Best Attacker - Aiza Maizo (UST)
Best Blocker - Jacqueline Alarca (DLSU)
Sorry but this should is rightfully Aiza Maizo's.
Best Server - Mecaila Irish May Morada (FEU)
Best Digger - Lizlee Ann Gata (AdU)
Was anyone watching? Jennylyn Reyes of NU did a masterful job! Kasi NU? Ganyan ba yan?
Best Setter - April Linor Jose (FEU)
Repeat after me... Jennifer Hiponia of Adamson. Jennifer Hiponia of Adamson.
Best Receiver - Manilla Santos (DLSU)
Rookie of the Year - Melissa Gohing (DLSU)
WTF! DLSU's success was largely because of its vets and their superb team play and not because of this super maarte player. Angeline Gervacio of ADMU should have been tabbed for this. Or Pau Soriano of Adamson (thanks, Eddie for reminding me about her). Yes, she's worthy as well. Gohing. What have you guys been smoking?
Posted by Rick Olivares, Bleachers' Brew (http://bleachersbrew.blogspot.com/)
:naughty:

^Sa vleague.tk may Thailand training update thread. :)
I also have updates. YM lang kasi yun with other Lady Eagles eh pero so far the team has not yet trained that "hell" like the previous Lady Eagles. Yung previous Lady Eagles kasi had trainings everyday from 6-8 AM tapos from 10 AM-2 PM tapos from 4-7 PM. Three times a day. So far two times pa lang ata sila nagtatrain. Medyo light pa. Strict yung rules ni Coach Apichat as usual, and of course, may mga curfew. Haha. So yun. Of course, hindi na bago sila Kara, Charo, Ave, Gab, etc. dito.

We will see. Dzi Gervacio is bound to shift from AB Political Science to BS Legal Management. If she will continue being a Political Science major, we may see her not playing her 5th year for Law School. Same case with Fille Cainglet who shifted from AB Psychology to BS Psychology.
Although ewan ko, AJ Pareja, the team captain of the ADMU MVT, will still play naman kahit na sa Ateneo Med School na siya next year eh. So sana talaga i-play nila yung 5th year nila. :)

No offense ah but konsensya mo na lang yun or kapal ng mukha mo or hayop ka talaga kung magtraining ka lang sa Thailand tapos hindi ka sa Ateneo maglalaro.
But with the way things are going, mukhang okay naman daw yung girls.
So bale there are 10 players in the line-up.

^Yup. I agree. Nakakatawa kasi last year nung summer, yung mga Ateneo fans nagpapapicture na kay Mel Gohing and Denise Lim plus sila Fille Cainglet, Dzi Gervacio, etc. But unfortunately, nung late May, bigla na lang umalis si Gohing at Lim sa Ateneo at hindi pala sila napasama sa line-up. Oh well.
At least now, the Ateneo fans are doing good in keeping the names of the girls. Well, two girls out of the six pa lang naman ang matunog. :)

Apr 17, 2009, 10:31 AM
I don't know where to post this since this is a UAAP Season 71 Thread. Anyway, eto naman yung original line-up plus guest players lang talaga. Haha.
Here's a quick analysis about the two-day training of the Lady Eagles from Thailand:
2 - PAJE, Averil (Setter/Open Spiker)
- I have not seen much of Averil but I saw her floor defense yesterday. Quite still good in receiving. I have yet to see her spikes.
14 - QUIMPO, Misha (Utility)
Her spikes improved tremendously. Her defense is likewise commendable.
7 - NACACHI, Aillyse Carol (Middle Blocker)
The speed of her spikes quite improved and she rarely spikes at the net, but I need to see more improvement from her. Sayang ang tangkad niya eh.
17 - GABRIEL, Stephanie (Libero)
Her receiving improved so much. She just needs to work on her digging skills. Yun na lang talaga but she is doing very good.
5 - ACEVEDO, Maria Carmina Denise (Utility/Open Spiker)
The spikes are back. The digs are back. The excellent receives are back. The blocks are back. The serves are back. But, EVEN BETTER. Watch out for her. Before, her right-wing spikes are usually mga down-the-line or at the Zone 6 but what I saw a while ago was different napapadalas na rin ang Zone 2 and frontline spiking niya.
8 - SORIANO, Maria Rosario (Middle Blocker)
Well her running spikes and quick attacks are back. Her blocking and floor defense are back as well. Malakas na ulit ang spiking niya like before. Iba na jump serve niya. Bumalik sa dati. Abangan niyo na lang din. Mukhang isa na naman siyang go-to-girl this coming conference.
15 - CAINGLET, Fille Saint Merced (Open Spiker/Utility)
Her spikes improved pero slight lang. More power and improvement pa sana. But what improved in her game is her floor defense.
12 - FERRER, Jamenea (Setter)
Nagimprove yung pitik pero sana more improvement pa. Overall okay lang naman siya but she can do more. I believe in her.
6 - GERVACIO, Angeline Marie (Open Spiker)
One girl who improved so much from the Thailand training. Grabe. Her jump serves are now deadly. A while ago in their training, she had like 3-4 aces against a team composed mostly of men's volleyball players. Ang ganda na ng jump serve niya. Aside from that, her spikes are so powerful. Maybe even powerful than her previous V-League and UAAP stint few months back.
3 - HO, Gretch (Middle Blocker)
Okay. Hands down the most improved player in the team. Grabe. Her quick and running attacks are so powerful na. Plus, the blocking and agressiveness. They trained with the men's volleyball players a while ago and I bet she was the top scorer. She had aces, blocks and a lot of powerful attacks. Grabe na talaga si Gretch. Watch out for the quicks. Yung running spikes angle na lang ang winowork-out niya but nevertheless, she is getting more and more effective and powerful.
10 - KEAWBUNDIT, Sontaya (Open Spiker/Middle Blocker/Utility)
Hmm. I said enough in her thread. This girl is something and might be the future of Thailand volleyball. She might just be a combination of Bualee and Kesinee. Power plus Smarts. She is inconsistent in a way that some of her spikes are powerful while some are smart. Vinavary niya ang spikes niya in other words. Expect her to be moody at games since bata pa. Hindi lahat ng palo niya ay malakas. Haha. Although most are. Parang wala pa nga siya sa mood and hindi pa siya ganoon ka-jelled with her teammates but expect her to be explosive. I might forget this but her defense is relentless. Ibang klase ang floor defense niya and yung blocking. Grabe. Package talaga. Aside from that, she can spike anywhere. Mapa-middle, right-wing or left-wing. And she really knows where she is spiking the ball. Alam niya kung saan mapupunta yung ball. Her attack is so good.

^Yup. I agree. Nakakatawa kasi last year nung summer, yung mga Ateneo fans nagpapapicture na kay Mel Gohing and Denise Lim plus sila Fille Cainglet, Dzi Gervacio, etc. But unfortunately, nung late May, bigla na lang umalis si Gohing at Lim sa Ateneo at hindi pala sila napasama sa line-up. Oh well.
I don't know if these girls are basketball-built. I doubt if they would play basketball.
Baka naman di pa naka-enroll sina Gohing noon. They still had the opportunity to back out. Maybe, La Salle's incentives enticed Gohing more than Ateneo's. Who's Denise Lim? Where did she transfer?
As for the Ateneo's 6-footers, I hope they wld learn to do the blocking effectively like the DLSU ladies.

where is team captain Bea Pascual analysis ? she's included in two weeks training in Thailand.................
She will not play this coming conference because of OJT. Unless of course, Ateneo makes it in the Quarterfinals and Final Four. :)

At least now, the Ateneo fans are doing good in keeping the names of the girls. Well, two girls out of the six pa lang naman ang matunog. :)

Jancarlo,
I know that you are friends with most of the ladies on the ADMU squad but what's with the "natin". Di ba, you followed your lady love to Taft. :naughty: Hard to give up the old roots, eh!
Until a player has not registered and started classes, the player is fair game to be recruited by other schools. Binding agreements do not exists in the Philippines unlike in the US NCAA. Since Gohing and Lim were not lined-up by ADMU and had not started school, there were no obligations even if they had a scholarship offer from ADMU. To the coaching staff and school administration, it leaves a bitter taste spending time and effort on a player only to be left in the altar, ika nga delicadeza. Then again, a guaranteed spot on varsity is hard to pass up. Not sure if this is the same case with Chris M. of men's volleyball.
This practice of jumping ship during summer training is not new. Kady Wilson of basketball was training with the lady eagles when she decided to jump ship and play for DLSU and their offer of an academic scholarship. An offer from DLSU were extended to Ballantyne and Sarah Mercado but both refused the offer and played in the last championship team of ADMU.
Nakakahalata yata ako. The target has been Katipunan and the final destination is always Taft.:bop:

Don't worry. Haha. I love both schools. :D In fact, I'm not alone. In the volleyball world, Ateneo and La Salle fans are usually friends since they are fans of both Ateneo and La Salle. Even some of the players are quite close friends themselves. Try going to vleague.tk. It's quite ironic to be honest since it's basketball, it's not really the same thing. In volleyball, The Lady Eagles are rivals more with UST while La Salle to FEU.
I agree, there's Nothing really wrong in the case of some players like Gohing, Lim, etc. Haha. Wala lang, I was just really reminscing last year when the fans of Ateneo were not yet aware of the recruitment in collegiate sports.

Anyway, there are five new recruits. Haha. Haha.

hey, know what i don't understand? kung ano ang kulang ng wvt. hindi naman kulang sa financial support, as you said nga may pera naman yung team to afford the thailand training. hindi naman kulang sa talent yung coaching staff kasi coach roger is the head coach of ssc-r, the ncaa's wvt champions. hindi naman kulang sa fan support yung team kasi madami naman dito sa pex na very supportive. sobra nga yung fan support kasi kung basahin mo yung thread you get the impression that the team is sooooo good! *okay* hindi naman kulang sa facilities kasi maganda naman sa moro. hindi naman kulang sa time kasi it's been 30+ years since we've joined the uaap pero hanggang ngayon wala pang championship. it's not the lack of excuses naman kasi napakadami ng excuses jan noh. so ano ang kulang sa kanila kaya? is it the team itself kaya? you think?

ganito kasi yan: i am too busy at work to keep track of the progress of the wvt so i check pex once in a while to get updated. e ang problema kasi mas madaming talo yung team kesa sa panalo so syempre naabutan ko yung mga talo kaya naturally i react to the losses. alangan naman na mag-react ako na kunwari win kung talo diba?
and why naman should i not post in the thread of my alma mater?
i already posted my honest opinions sa feu and ust threads, pati dlsu nga e. and know what? very positive reaction nila saken. i mean, they took it very constructively nga e. parang hindi sila uber defensive ba. hindi katulad dito, ang daming defensive!

This coming UAAP, wish ko sana:
si gabrieL paLitan naLang ni kara as Libero.
mas effective taLaga si kara to the chore. Or if pwede daLawa Libero, saLitan na Lang. Kara can do the cruciaL games.
Magagaling din daw ang mga bagong recruits so sana ganito Lin-up
Open Gervacio
Open Bagatsing
Mid bLocker Patnongon/Araneta
Mid bLocker Ho/PascuaL
UtiLity CaingLet
Libero Kara/GabrieL
Mas may Laban this time ang ateneo. Kara is a good hitter pero kaiLangan ng ADMU to strengthen their fLoor defense. Kara can very weLL provide it.

^Yes. Usually Ieal is fielded in the first set. The much improved Nacachi is the one who played in the first and second set.
The original first six for Set 1 and Set a while ago:
Setter - Ferrer
Open 1 - Gervacio
Middle 1 - Nacachi
Utility - Acevedo
Open 2 - Bagatsing
Middle 2 - Ho
Then come third set, the coach experimented a bit:
Setter - Faustino
Open 1 - Ho
Middle 1 - Nacachi
Utility - Bagatsing
Open 2 - Ferrer
Middle 2 - Patnongon

I beg to disagree.
First, there is a pending request to have this thread renamed for the UAAP Season 72 ADMU WVT.
Second, hindi naman ito redundant thread. AFAIK, ito lang ang thread [in PEX] na dedicated for the team.
Lastly, if you consider this as an eye sore, then there must be something wrong with your eyes.

To Charlie282:
I politely suggest that you get out of the Dark Crusade's path or suffer the fate of the aforementioned people. It seems your already well acquainted with one of the trolls THE MASTER released here in this Ateneo thread. Jacolsalsalani is his given name I believe.
As I said it is too late to appease the MASTER's anger because none of you have forsaken your hero-worshiping acts. Now the MASTER has released trolls that will lay waste to your precious threads one by one.
If any of you people aren't well associated with the master I suggest that you read the older pages in the thread of ms. cha cruz to see the destructive power of my MASTER and his trolls.
Don't shoot me I'm just a messenger.

Bagatsing has the power of Dzi Gervacio and the approach of Nerissa Bautista. Aside from that, she has a very good serve.
The girl has to improve though on her floor defense, a thing that Kara Acevedo is known for, or should I say, a thing that makes Kara Acevedo the best floor defender of Ateneo. :)
Oh well, we'll see. Haha. I remember seeing myself last year, June 2008, no offense though to the Lady Eagles, haha, nawawalan ako ng gana since there was no Charo, Karla, Patti, etc. and then the rookies were playing like they were still high school. Haha. No offense to them ah, pero hindi ko akalain na in five months Manong Roger developed them and be a contender in both the UAAP and the V-League kahit papano. And that's in a span of five months lang. :)
Hehe. Nacurious kami sa recruits that time so yun tinignan namin. Haha. Then we stopped watching na kasi nga parang feel namin masyado pang hilaw yung rookies to even contend for a final four slot. Haha. Ayun. But then, after 4 months, nung October we decided to watch again. We actually got surprised with what we saw.

i just hope that the lady eagles would be able to continue what they have started...i just hope that the intercoll championship would be the jumpstart of their campaign for season72;0)
anyway ask ko lang kay jancarlo about the status of patnongon kung sure na ba talaga na di sya makakalaro sa season72?
