View Full Version : Make Up Mistakes!!!

Apart from reading books, magazines and just plain common sense and personal judgement - -what to you are the major make-up No-no?! Particularly, those you see everyday...

This is not to "offend" anyone who possibly considers that "mistake" as "normal", "cool" or "acceptable"...

my take:

(1) Strong colors on all facial features. Strong eyes + loud blush + strong lip color.
(2) NOT BLENDING - - I believe sometime back (was it last spring or summer?!) a strong wash of OPAQUE color on eyes was seen on runways - -then again, that's the RUNWAY. Realistically speaking, I feel, you still need to blend the color in until it subtly "melts" into your lids...That's why I'm not a big fan of foam applicators...I'm more of a brush girl.
(3) Lining the RIMS of the eye with dark liner...I dont think anyone ever looks great with their eye rims lined with a color other than white or pastel shades(nearly white). Then again, that's just me.
(4) Too much during the day - - Ever seen a girl you feel is wearing TOO much make up before 6pm?! I know I shouldn't really care, but there is such a thing as the "day face" and the "night face". Tiping "night" looks ang pang malling nila...PERSONALLY, I think this is a major no-no...

using black or kohl to line your eyebrows. it adds years to your face and makes you look like a witch.

If you apply heavy make-up on eyes make sure your lips and other parts of your face are subtle and clean... others specially at night they tend to over do their make-up. they're suppose to emphasize your beauty.

don't ever put so much concealer under your eyes..and PLEASE blend it well enough that it doesn't show some traces of your fingers..

and for those who are not blessed with a pointed nose, stop putting heavy nose lines..it'll just make you look stupid..

those who put blush-on like there's no tomorrow..

putting black eyeliner on your eyelids during the day..

super dark lipstick is so ancient.. (yung mga emo emo-han)..

if you can't have a smoky eyes well done (or at least nicely done), then DON'T! it's as if a kid painted on your eyes..

@pink gold - you're right re pointed nose thing.
andami kong nakikitang ganyan, usually sa mga make up blogs & tutorials.

For me, Big No-No ang MU pag bad face-day ka, AKA breakouts galore.
My God, ano ba?! :bop: You are not concealing anything, you're actually making your face look more horrible.

Tsaka, yung mga thin lined eye brows. Pangit talaga, parang matatanda na walang eyebrows na.

using a lip liner 10xs darker than the lipstick. minsan black pa nga. halloween is only once a year.

applying too much eyeliner like there's no tomorrow.

using lipstick as a blush-on. i mean yung lipstick lang talaga, not like the nars multi-use product line.

too much foundation to the point na ang layo na ng kulay ng leeg mo.

Unless you're in for a photoshoot or some sort of show, I think you best leave your features as is...As this make up artist once said -contouring is for cameras, not real life. LOL. However, I'd STILL love to perfect contouring techniques for kikay purposes.

Yeah, people who put too much concealer and end up emphasizing their undereye baggage crack me up too...

More no-nos for me:

Using BLACK liner to fill in brows. Even if your hair is naturally black, it still looks best if you fill in your brows with dark brown.

Using BLACK LIQUID LINER to THICKLY line eyes during the day time!!! Reminds me of Cleopatra.

Sometimes, I wonder how those thickly made up girls look underneath that make up. LOL. I ALWAYS try to buy that issue of Star wherein they feature actresses w/ and w/o make up. It cracks me up!!!

Confession: I used to wear liquid foundation all over my face EVERYDAY. It made me look so much smoother, of course, but I got freaked out that I looked SOOOO different w/o it after washing my face that I stopped!!! Now, under "normal" circumstances, I'm just down to my Powder (powder foundation, actually - -still doesnt make you look DIFFERENT) and some form of gloss (hail petroleum jelly!!!) Sometimes, I just curl my lashes, fill in my brows and lightly line my lower lids with dark brown shadow an that's it! I don't know with you, as I got a bit older, I opted to wear LESS make up every day (though my undereye curse still bothers me). I try on so many make up looks at home and experiment on different colors and techniques (and buy all ths stuff I'm not sure I really NEED -- -fan brush anyone?!) but at the end of the day, I just find myself happy using neutral colors an sporting the "no make up, make up" look. LOL

i did this a long time ago as well.. and yes, you look so smooth with it but when you wash it you'd see a lot difference..it's as if the liquid foundation is doing something beneath your skin..:( same goes with the concealer..

well, thanks to diamond peel..it brought my skin back to its smoothness..

Wearing Glitter
Using Dark lip liner
Using foundation that's obviously wrong for your skin tone
Dark Blue, Blue, Purple, Violet eyeshadow. (Looking like you have a shiner is not attracted.)

Girls on clubs...

White ghastly face + pink blush + white eyeshadow + red lipstick + super colored long hair + contacts that don't suit your natural skin tone

Ugh...

and glitters...who the hell uses glitters as their makeup?

I agree with you guys, the no make up make up is the best...besides, Asians don't look so nice in very strong makeup, subtle and neutral colors best suit us, so there.

I once did put a liquid eyeliner during the day. sabi nung friend ko mukha daw akong geisha. lolz. I dunno if it's a good or a bad thing kasi tumatawa sya. Darn, i still have to master how to put an eyeliner properly. I like the effect i think im going to practice more.

I wanna learn how to do the smoky eye thing too. :D
