Post your thoughts on who will suit up for the UAAP Teams in next year's UAAP Women's Volleyball. I know its too early but with the emergence of new volleyball talents, im sure its something we must talk about as early as now. :) Hint: Talk about those players who played for the RP Youth Team and some other leagues. Im sure a lot of them are graduating and surely, with their good volleyball skills, coaches (like me) will do anything to get them.

There has been a sudden influx of talents for UST. Can UST provide the time of the day for the incoming talents?

If UST can't promise and guarantee them playing time and exposure then what are they to do.

Kung kaya ng utak then here comes DLSU & ADMU for more perks, if not they can settle for UP which is not a bad choice. It's best for her future besides playing volleyball.

I can't speak for other universities and the generic future they offer.

Then next siguro si Averil Paje. Malamang hindi hihigit sa 2 yung magiging recruit. Another possibilty kapag hindi maglalaro si Steph/Bea next season kasi 4th year na siya di ba? May iba ayaw na maglaro sa 4th year to concentrate on their studies.

^No. Walang mawawala sa 10 players ng Ateneo this year. Kung magdadagdag man, baka mga 1 or 2 lang yun. At the most na siguro yung four.

Hindi pwede mawala si Averil Paje. Haha. If ever you guys don't know, she's the second setter of the team. :)

There's another pretty girl Sharah So. Hehe. She's training with the Lady Eagles minsan. :) She also has the power pero kelangan pa ng konting polishing sa talon and diskarte sa spike. Aside from her, there's another Kulasa Chrysette Onishi who's regularly training with the Lady Eagles. :)

^Even better in both divisions I guess. Because this year is a rebuilding for both Ateneo teams. The two teams (MVT and WVT) were never even expected to at least challenge the strong teams to at least a Final Four berth, since in UAAP, even if you have good recruits, you more or less end up in the cellar in your rebuilding year.

^ I expected the same for UST. Imagine losing the 2 best volleybelles in the nation. And a third one who is among the best in the league. To make matters worse, another top league player goes down with injury. If there's one team who is in rebuilding mode, that is the Tigresses' team. But they never looked at it that way. Not coach, who obviously put so much pressure on himself because he refused to use that as an excuse. Certainly not the Thomasian faithfulls who suffer with every UST loss only because they expect a win in every game, even going as far as criticizing the team. And definitely not the ladies themselves... they could have easily just rolled over and stay down. But they always go down fighting.

I guess I was the only one who had little in the Tigresses by sounding like an apologiest in every loss.


But for Team UST, there are no excuses...

that was just height advantage, but skill-wise? out of the first 6 of the ust girls volleyball, si patnongon ang pinakakulelat. Buti na lang sa UST pa rin sila banatikla at santiago ( these kids are blessed with volleyball skills). At sa season 73 with alyssa valedez' entry, wow, UST's line-up is even better than that of balse-bernal-tabaquero era.

im also not hyping these 3 girls, lalo na yung 2 favorites ko (banatikla and valdez who are both pretty and powerful)and like you, sinubaybayan ko rin ang tatlong ito. And these are rarely seen sa mga volleyball girls. Im also excited on how ust will utilize these upcoming volleyball rookies of the ust team.

We'll see next conference if Patnongon improved. After all, if ever she will don the blue jersey, she will be included in the team that will go to Thailand this coming March 30.

At least, even without Bernice Co next year, there's Maru Banaticla and at least there's no weak spot anymore for UST in the middle since Dindin Santiago and Maika Ortiz will be carrying much of the load. It's fun to note that Maika is more of a quick hitter while Dindin is a back quicker or a running spiker. Wait, who is the #4 of UST GVT who is likewise tall? :)

Carmela Garbin is another player to watch out for and of course, the much-awaited Patty Orendain. Since Ateneo already declared their "final" recruits, Garbin and Orendain will be up for grabs I guess.

The 6'4 Gonzales has very good spiking skills. The problem is she is not in our country anymore. She's studying somewhere outside the country. I don't know where and what school but hoping that she will be developed in wherever that place is and she'll play in our National Team. :lol:

FEU has a new recruit pero baka next year pa maglaro kasi graduating pa lang from HS. about 5'8 to 5'9 pero pag tumalon parang si Pedregosa.

she's definitely not belittled. all i was saying is that compared to the rest of the ust gvt, patnongon is not that powerful (im sure everybody agrees with me) But im not taking away the credit that she's part of the ust-gvt champion team. As far as i know patnongon won't continue her VB career in ateneo, ang alam ko nga she will just go to ateneo for education. Timmy Santo Tomas, a high school standout in UST, is one of the prized players of Ateneo MVT. Perhaps Patnongon can follow Timmy's footsteps and replicate, or even surpass, his success.

Besides, Patnongon herself mentioned that "Once a tiger, always a tiger."

Even my other blockmates and other classmates like PJ Barua, Mel Gohing and Celine Hernandez know that I root for Ateneo sometimes. Marami naman diyan pagdating sa sports, loyal pa rin sa kanilang dating school. Ganun din sa ADMU, marami rin akong kilala na mga taga-GH or Zobel na nasa ADMU ngayon na sa DLSU pa rin kumakampi when it comes to sports. :)

Guys, let us leave jancarlo alone. He is getting a lot of flak from the Blue side also. He chose to study in La Salle in college. That is good enough for us. There are also former La Sallians who are now studying in the blue side who unfortunately thinks being in the blue side is the best thing that has ever happened to them. They have believed in the hype and now look down on La Sallians. At least jancarlo never looked down on his former schoolmates unlike some ex La Sallians.

aminado naman talaga si ael na hindi siya ganon kalakas na player unlike her teammates, alyssa valdez, santiago and banaticla..she admitted that from her post from ust.net.ph but we still support her decision for we know that it is for her own good.. She is anyway in good hands with Coach Roger as she will surely be developed as a monter blocker..

next season will be very exciting since rookie players banaticla and santiago(UST) will be facing their high school tormentors(Dzi Gervacio, Gretch Ho, Jem Ferrer and Fille Cainglet) who are now in Ateneo.. I can still recall, UST has always been runner-up to Hope during those times in Shakey's Girls vleague but I know the girls are stronger now and can match those four*okay* And the entry of those two girls on UST's roster will further improve their blocking as those two are one hell of excellent blockers..

BACOLOD CITY -- University of Santo Tomas downed last year’s winner University of St. La Salle in four sets over the weekend to win the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League Tournament of Champions here.

With the deadly trio of Maru Banaticla, Alyssa Valdez and Dindin Santiago doing the scoring, the UST spikers rallied from one set down to win, 18-25, 25-19, 25-19,, 25-17 and eventually top the tournament backed by Petron Treats, Toby’s, Dunkin Donuts, Mikasa and Asics.

Banaticla, Valdez and Santiago combined for 64 points, including 36 kills as they proved too hot to handle for the USLS defenders in the match that lasted a little more than an hour.

Third place honors went to Pajo National High School (Cebu City),which defeated Passi National High School (Ilo-ilo) in straight sets, 25-9, 25-21, 25-22.

Special awardees were Athena Sucalit, Pajo National HS (Best Receiver); Patricia Rasmo, USLS (Best Libero); Fritz Gallenero, USLS (Best Server); Kim Fajardo, UST (Best Setter); Beatriz Tan, USLS (Best Blocker); Alyssa Valdez, UST (Best Attacker); Francis Vicente, UST (Best Coach).

UST bags Shakey’s T of C volley title

BACOLOD CITY -- University of Santo Tomas downed last year’s winner University of St. La Salle in four sets over the weekend to win the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League Tournament of Champions here.

With the deadly trio of Maru Banaticla, Alyssa Valdez and Dindin Santiago doing the scoring, the UST spikers rallied from one set down to win, 18-25, 25-19, 25-19,, 25-17 and eventually top the tournament backed by Petron Treats, Toby’s, Dunkin Donuts, Mikasa and Asics.

Banaticla, Valdez and Santiago combined for 64 points, including 36 kills as they proved too hot to handle for the USLS defenders in the match that lasted a little more than an hour.

Third place honors went to Pajo National High School (Cebu City),which defeated Passi National High School (Ilo-ilo) in straight sets, 25-9, 25-21, 25-22.

Special awardees were Athena Sucalit, Pajo National HS (Best Receiver); Patricia Rasmo, USLS (Best Libero); Fritz Gallenero, USLS (Best Server); Kim Fajardo, UST (Best Setter); Beatriz Tan, USLS (Best Blocker); Alyssa Valdez, UST (Best Attacker); Francis Vicente, UST (Best Coach).

Si Bigshow ay papa-kuhanin pa ng test sa gustong kurso nya na Tourism, kapag umabot sa quota ay dun siya, kapag hindi ay sa IPEA muna. Si Jeric Fortuna ay kukuha naman sa IT.

At dahil naka-enroll na ang dalawa sa recuits, pwede na natin i-reveal sila.

1. Million Dollar Baby- Loren Lantin, 5'7, setter, from Poveda. Look-a-like ni Denise Tan. Isa sa pinak-unang nag-tryout at wala pang umabsent mula noon. Masipag siya sa training, kahit na hindi sinasabihan nila coach na sumama sa loading o kung ano pang ginagawa ng team A ay sumasama siya. Medyo hilaw pa siya pero mukang kayang pumasok sa team A.:bop::bop::bop:

Ang course nga pala nya ay BS Bio. Susundan ang yapak ng magulang na graduate ng UST Medicine.

2. Prinsesa- Maruja Banaticla, 5'6, open spiker/utility, from UST HS. Isa sa pinak-matunog na names sa high school volleyball scene. Recently named MVP of the Tournament of Champions Shakey's V-League girls. Also played in the Asian Youth Girls Volleyball. One of the top scorers in the UST-GVT lineup. She is a welcome addition to the team, a strong spiker, has a solid defense as well and has leadership qualities for her young age. Masipag na bata at maganda ang pinapakita sa training ngayon. Kanina lang siya nag-enroll, kasama nya si Ate Krisna nya. Napagod pa daw sila sa pabalik-balik sa iba't ibang building. Hehe! Course nya ay Commerce major in Economics.:bop:*okay*:)*okay*


Kapag nakapag-enroll na yung iba ay irereveal ko na rin agad. Intay-intay lang tayo.

Banaticla definitely made the right decision to stay with UST. I think she is really looking forward to a serious volleyball career. And UST will definitely be able to provide for her those opportunities....

I watched Carmela Garbin play when I was still in Pinas, well just last year. She attacks like Bernice Co, not really strong but efficient, perhaps because of the high trajectory....

I think this was already answered before. They are saying na some of their present athletes were injured that is why v-league allowed them to include these two athletes in their current line-up.

Adamson appealed to the board about this since they will be undermanned. Mga less than 10 lang makakalaro sa kanila so V-League allowed all teams to field in their rookies na lang din. :)

I am making the comparison between big show and lethal mermaid because they came from the same high school and went to different universities.
