View Full Version : What about RiverMaya¿?¿

since the lead singer of the group Bamboo left, do you think that RiverMaya became a better band? Before I really hate this band I feel that they're not competent enough. But since Bamboo left their music changed and they emerged from "Baduy" to better. Like their new song "Rodeo" grabe it's damn good. So what do u think??

when i first heard their new songs, akala ko foreign band...rivermaya is definitely better sans bamboo, puro kabaduyan lang kase dati ang ginagawa nila with him.

Their music is definitely better now. What was that song? Shattered (I think)? That was good. I also thought foreign band sila.

well for me, para namang walang pinagbago eh. his voice is nice though. he and rico blanco make a good tandem. pero i think the heart and soul of rivermaya is really rico blanco. take him out and rivermaya is nothing. with his talent, this band would have a very long career. i really admire his music-writing.

the new rivermaya sure sounds different from the old one. their sound is more electronic now, veering away from the acoustic sound that they used to have.
... i heard a copy of their latest cd from a friend, and i must admit, their music sounded quite well. but they still have yet to come up with their "own sound". one of the cuts from the cd sounded like a "duran duran song" and another song was obviously inspired by "sting".

I've always liked RiverMaya, even with Bamboo. Their 1st album was really good. It had great songs like 214, 20 Million, Ulan, Awit ng Kabataan, etc. It's true that Rico Blanco is the heart & soul of the band, but I hardly think that Bamboo was a liability when he was still with them. I bet he also made a lot of contributions to the band.
Nevertheless, kudos to RiverMaya for bouncing back. Great new album by the way :)

yeah...i think rivermaya definitely improved... i like them better now...
i agree with porkchop :) abt the 'rodeo' song: when i first heard it over the radio, i also thought it was done by a foreign group.

watch out for their new album - coming soon. [used to be called The Return of the Bikini Inspector -- but word is, they're thinking of others now]
u can also check out their website: www.rivermaya.net (http://www.rivermaya.net) - it's still under construction, but there are lots of stuff to go through already. drummer mark escueta handles most of the webmaster tasks.

Shattered Like is a really good song (probably the best in the latest album), but most of their songs are, even when Bamboo was around.
I especially liked the 2nd album, esp. that song Out of Reach. I think it's pretty cool! :)

i liked rivermaya from the start when "ulan" came out. tapos ganda pa nung 214, awit ng kabataan, and bring me down. tapos sheesh... yung kisap-mata (mas nagalingan ako sa arrangement ng music ng rivermaya kaysa erahserheads sa song na 'to!)
ngayon, nde ko na masyadong trip yung band. i have to admit na i like the vocals of rico more than bamboo pero parang nawala yung musical edge nila... musical edge? hehehe, wala ako maisip na term e...
you know what i mean!

i need to admit that the rivermaya with bamboo manalac as lead spawned the best songs from the band such as 214, 20 Million, Flowers, If, and Ulan, but "its not easy being green", with rico blanco, came up with some good songs too, like shattered like, rodeo, and my personal fave, homecoming.

I really like rivermaya(with or without Bamboo). for me kase nagustuhan ko yung banda kase kahit na magkulang sila ng member they still continue what they are started kaya nga hanggang ngayon rivermaya pa rin sila unlike sa kung ibang banda yan pag nawala yung isa maghahanap na ng iba tapos magdidisband na....iba talaga yung rivermaya...di naman sila baduy na katulad ng sinasabi ng iba with or without bamboo parehas pa rin yun although may pagkakaiba sa boses ang mahalaga nakasurvive pa rin sila as rivermaya...kase kung baduy sila siguro matagal na silang nawala....for me rivermaya is the most talented and best pinoy band that i ever had...and to rivermaya sana tuloy-tuloy na yung pagtatagumpay ninyo sa larangan ng musika....and to rivermaya fans hope to continue supporting rivermaya and your loyalty to this band will still remain. Am I Real...

Rivermaya's identity could be summarized by what my friend said, "Buti ngayon with Rico Blanco, may goal na sila."
Well said. Bow ako sa yo, Rico.

rivermaya's good na naman even before.
hu wud ever forget 214, ulan, or kisap-mata?
i don't think they're baduy songs.

Well their music changed alot when bamboo left...and they sounded more alternative than pop. this goes to show that Rico Blanco is really the backbone of the group and not Bamboo. Rico is the talented frontman of rivermaya responsible for all of the band's hits and also co-produces for them. and did you guys know na pinsan ni Rico Blanco si Kitchie Nadal ng Mojofly.
:smokin:
i really think rico blanco is one of the best songwriters among the young generation today (and that includes ely buendia, barbie a., etc) i just love the song "kisapmita", coz of its beautiful yet simple arrangement. i also like some of their songs in "it's not easy being green" album especially "shattered like" which i thought was a foreign song before.

Pinaka-gusto kong kanta from this album ay "Himala".
"Kasalanan ba ang humingi ako sa langit ng isang himala?"

actually... FREE ang pangalan ng bago nilang album... and it's for... free... so wala sa record bars niyan.
Anyway, saw them in Clapton/Santana. Kahit na alanganin kay Rico or for the band to play Eric's or Carlos' songs, cool pa rin ang kinalabasan nila.

what i liked about rivermaya was the first album...when the second album came out it was ok too but when bamboo left the band i felt they really sucked pero later on i realized that they were a totally different band na...medyo iba na kasi yung style and all...kudos to them!

once bamboo left...their music matured and had more depth...when bamboo left, their pop, post pubescent themed songs also went along with him...they became more alternative...by the way, where did you get their new album?

I love Rivermaya...always did. Bamboo's abroad studying, now there's an issue with Nathan. I know Rivermaya will see it through...I'll get damn disappointed otherwise.
I have a coupla mp3s of Rivermaya na I got from Napster. I guess it's a matter of timing. Their site www.rivermaya.net offers videos for download. Visit it because it's good :)
I love "Awit ng Kabataan" :)

i think u're referring to their single for the robin padilla movie...i saw the trailer and obvious na obvious na rivermaya. yung song dun. anways, i heard they are (baka were na kasi baka tapos na ito...) with nathan. i heard somewhere na he hooked up with karl roy na and rivermaya. is looking for a bassist and another guitarist na rin (papalitan na rin ata nila yung current sessionist nila eh).
there's an article about rivermaya. and nathan on http://www.philmusic.com check it out na lang.

I read from pulp magazine that nathan will be brought to a rehab. He needs it na daw dahil he even forgets his bass lines when performing. Too bad. Hoping that after his affair with the rehab, he will still come back sa band.
