Just dropping by to say hello to all my Bedan brothers (and sisters if any) at our newly opened thread.

Validus and sliderule, it's refreshing to read how you reminisce about your experiences in San Beda and the people which made life more interesting during our stay in the den. :-) I miss San Beda.

However, I also miss our San Beda Red Lions in action. Our stint at FMC ended in a close game with FEU coming away with the win in the Final Four.

I think that we have so many things to develop if our team wants to achieve that rare 4Peat. Exciting na naman next Season and I am predicting a doubly hard Season 85 for our beloved Red Lions.

Sana pre-season tournaments na.

Taupa won't be playing for us next year because of age requirements. Good luck Kris!

Lanete is still recuperating from his injury. I think he'll be able to play for us next year. Just don't expect him to play early off-season ballgames. He's well taken cared of I believe.

Mga bro, kinakabahan na ba kayo for next season? After watching the bantay bata all star kinakabahan na ako. Coach frankie was able to tie the game by playing 4 lions and jazul. I thought by that time na realize na niya na the key is to play people who are familiar w/ each other and can compliment each other. Just like what Black was doing by playing a combination of 2 or 3 players from the same school throughout the game. Jazul got us back into the game bec. he became the designated scorer while the rest played backup. Nung ma tie na, ginulo na naman niya yung lineup. Kung sino sino na naman yung pinasok ayun natambakan na ulit. Tapos laging pinipilit kay Ekwe na sobrang malas and wasn't even getting the ball at his sweet spots. So in short, tingin ko nanganganib yung roar for 4 next year.

pardon the pessimism but in the pbl, ogie committed 13 errors in one game. in the bantay bata sam couldn't find his rhythm and his shot vs the uaap's best. it seems to me that san beda is already missing pong's brilliant and steady quarterbacking. hermida is a good point guard but he is no escobal. at least not yet. maybe next season he'll be better equiped (and less erratic) to man the point for us bec of his time in the pbl but in the coming pccl i'm hoping i won't secretly curse pong for leaving us so soon.

next year malalakas na ang ibang teams, tapos wala ng taga-salba si lim dahil wala na si pong. hope palitan na ***. si menor naman magaling nga, erratic naman panuurin nyo PBL, dami nya errors, lagi ksi gigil. hope si lanete na ang bigyan ng mahaba playing time instead of menor for next year's ncaa.

-we all know ogie's erratic play during games but he is that type of player, he can commit turnovers as well as contribute tremendously at the same time. think benjie paras.

Coach Ryan experimented with all RL line-up and they responded well. Natutuwa ako lalo na kay Dave kahit nabubugbog sa ilalim pero lumalabas laro pati na rin outside shooting ni Jtec lumabas kaya nga Best Player of the game sya

Anyway I just want it to share with you guys, the way I see it, sa pinapakita ng RL (Burger King) kahapon we'll see a lot of improvements next season

It's SAN BEDA not beda!

You are drawing invalid conclusions from such different circumstances. Bantay bata and the PBL are not the NCAA. Simple lang, iba ang players, iba ang plays, iba ang kalaban, iba ang strengths/weaknesses, at most of all iba ang motivation. Our team will become more focused once next season starts and our coach will make sure our newfound assets will gel with the remaining ones.

Stop thinking of who will replace Pong or Sam...hindi ganun yun. Think about who do we have and how these assets are balanced to obtain the optimum team strength.

Having said that, I think our weakness next year will be consistency. I don't think Hermida or Tirona can be as level headed as Escobal and that will result in more reckless Menor individual plays. How Daniels will fit into that picture, will he exascerbate our flaws...still needs to be seen.

It too sad to note a Bedan criticizing unfairly his fellows.

Coach Frankie Lim lived the words of our Alma Mater hymn. He's a very instrumental and distinguished Bedan that gave our school its back-to-back championships, not only once, but twice -- both as a player and as a coach.

One basketball great once said, winning a championship is an achievement, and winning back-to-back championships is an affirmation. Coach Frankie Lim won TWO BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPIONSHIPS. Isn't that enough affirmation, my fella (if you really are one)?

Same goes to Ogie, who's used to winning back-to-back championships when still with the Red Cubs. This year, he's very instrumental for our dynasthree.

Those whom you criticized are Bedan enough to bring honor for San Beda, our Country, and God.

A few games played in the PBL (we're 2-1 btw), and a Bantay-Bata (a mixed NCAA line-up, not just RL's) loss to the UAAP Team and we're supposed to worry?

Why worry? Is it because we "might" not win the Championship next year? Is it because we are afraid that we might get "thrashed" by other schools' supporters and hurt our pride? Is that it? The source of Bedan pride, shallowly misplaced onto NCAA basketball games.

I think that the loyalty of some to everything that's San Beda has been misplaced. I remember a time during the dark ages where we were cellar-dwellars in the NCAA. But that bleak situation did not affect the passion Bedans have for their school, cheering their hearts out to every basket made, however futile it was to the desired outcome of the game.

Talunan man, Bedista naman.

We have just won 3 Championships in a row. Let's savor it with all the best of our ability. Next year, we have a new Red Lions Team. Equally-talented as the previous team. Instead of worrying, just give your full support to the Team by attending games, praying and inspiring our Red Lions towards achieving its goals.

Also, about the San Beda and Beda name issue, my personal take is it doesn't matter, for as long as the name of the great church scholar, the Venerable Bede, is not disgraced. It's like calling our Lord Jesus Christ as plain and simple Jesus. Medyo personal for me to call Him his name. Pero, that's just me.

But you're correct, we need to give honor to whom honor is due. The Bede is a saint, and he is rightfully to be called San Beda.

Nung nasa SBC din ako hindi issue yan. Pero someone brought it up and did this campaign to stop calling our school "Beda". He gave some very valid points. Hindi ko na makita yung email nya eh. Makisama nalang tayo tutal valid naman mga points nya. :)

Mukha naman ang play eh pag nag commit yung bantay ni Ekwe eh drop pass ni Menor kay Sam. Kaso hindi sumabay kay Menor eh kaya diniretso nya.

Masakit pagkatalo natin! Pero sobra exciting ng game. Too bad we didn't come out on top.

The NCAA teams' losses doesn't necessarily imply that UAAp teams are better than them, although La Salle's head coach thinks otherwise. I can't help but feel bad for the Bedans. I was there in the first ever live game that I've watched at The Arena and it was a very wonderful experience for me. The Red Lions seem to have the won the ballgame as early as the 1st half, but then, relentless defense did it for La Salle. I just hope they will do the same against Ateneo.

It was ecstatic to see Joseph Evans "JV/Jvee" Casio, a former Red Cub, thrust the dagger into San Beda's heart and slay the mighty Red Lions right at The Arena at Mayor JV's city. It's like seeing Jvee playing the hero's role at his tocayo (with the same nickname) JV's place. Truly, Casio showed the stuff great Red Cubs are made of. It may have been a bittersweet experience for him but then, that's what it took him to get another shot at beating the other PCC finalist Ateneo Blue Eagles.

It was also nice to see Casio and Menor guard each other, with the former making some key steals against his "successor" in the Red Cubs' NCAA three-peat from 2002 to 2004. It's like seeing Tyrone **** guarding Chris Tiu. It's too bad Menor missed his probable game-winner and the play designed for him during the last 6.6 seconds was predictable. After all, San Beda doesn't have Escobal anymore and who do you get to make those "Escobal-like" endgame moves but Ohggee Mehnorr? You can't expect Ekwe to run and drive the lane like what Menor did, unless you want the former to shoot ala-Beau Belga. It was also funny to see Menor making an airball at his free throw attempt during the 2nd quarter of the game. I actually saw it directly in front of me and I was shocked. That airball free throw shot "coincided" with Severino "Nonoy" Baclao and coach Joe "Da Nose" Lipa (also seated right in front of San Beda's court during that time) buying hotdogs. Baclao and coach Lipa also can't help but flash out a big grin.

I transferred at the ringside section beside Mandy Ochoa to take a look at the sexy La Salle cheerdancers and some shot at the dancing Bedan babes during the last 2 minutes of the 1st half. Then, I finally settled down almost beside or near Simon Atkins and his family. I was actually shocked to see Atkins not sitting beside coach Franz Pumaren and the La Salle bench. I know that he's injured and so is LA Revilla but the latter joined the Green Archers' bench along with another injured player, Marco Batricevic. I don't know if Atkins watching at the lower box is a sign of things to come.

It's good to see La Salle's big guys, especially Walsham, play stiff defense against Samuel Ekwe (The Red Lion from Africa/ The African Red Lion). What is more exhilarating is how Walsham and co. attacked the interior with Ekwe right at the middle. I hope they will continue to do the same against Ateneo's big guys, especially Al-Hussaini, and they will also find a way to evade Blockman Baclao. La Salle may not have big guys like Letran's Cortes and Cabonce, who did good in containing Ateneo's big men, but if they (Walsham and co.) did it against Ekwe, who used to swat away Cardinals, Bombers, and almost every opponent during the NCAA's Sam Beda years, then there's no reason why they can't do it against Al-Hussaini.

Announcer Rolly Manlapaz mentioned the Immaculate Conception's Feast Day as the day when the Finals will be held at the Big Dome. Ateneo will be hard pressed to win on their school patroness' day and so is La Salle. After all, the Green Archers have not yet beaten the Eagles this season and it will be a great time for Casio to win a championship against the Eagles before leaving La Salle and for Rico Maierhofer to vindicate himself after that infamous call made by the referee which led to his UAAP Finals Game 2 ejection last September 25. If Ateneo and La Salle battle fiercely in "no bearing" games, then what more when there is a "national championship" and a pot of at least 500,000 php at stake? You can expect the Big Dome to have another record attendance.

If Ateneo wins, then they will crown themselves champions at the expense of their bitter rivals and right during their school patroness' day. I can just imagine Blue Eagles players, drenched in sweat and all, and their supporters storming the Church of the Gesu, making melodramatic victory speeches, etc., and maybe planning to make another bonfire party. Of course, they may shout at the top of their voices that they won one (a bigger one) for Mary (BVM).

If La Salle wins one over the Eagles, then the Green Archers will have the honor of being one of only two schools to beat Ateneo this year, this time, in a championship game. The only other school that has beaten Ateneo is FEU and that happened last July 31, The Feast Day of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Ateneo's patron saint. Therefore, the Green Archers will also have the chance to beat Ateneo on another day dedicated to one of its patrons, Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception (Dec. 8). Whether Ateneo wins or loses tomorrow, it would still look like a "no-loss day" for them since it's their school's and patroness' feast day just like what happened to them last July 31. In contrast, a loss by La Salle will be serve as the crowning glory to the Blue Eagles' achievements this year and it will further deepen the pain and humiliation the Green Archers have experienced by virtue of their losses against Ateneo.

It will be sort of a deja vu if the Green Archers lose the game tomorrow. Exactly 3 years ago, December 8, 2005, La Salle lost a thriller to Ateneo in a controversial Dream Games match, higlighted by that infamous shove thrown by Joseph Yeo right at the face of Ateneo's Enrico Villanueva, who hit the game winning 3-pt shot in that game. That Dec. 8, 2005 controversial loss by the Archers to the Eagles somehow capped the controversial year of 2005 for La Salle. I'm pretty sure most La Sallites and La Sallians would love to set aside that fateful year and Dream Games match and win one against the Eagles tomorrow to finally win one against the Eagles, vindicate the Maierhofer boo-boo, and see Casio exit as a winner. After all, it would be nice to hear La Salle supporters shout out to a victorious La Salle team, "Thank you Jvee!", "Thank you Casio", or simply, "Casio, Casio, Casio!!!"

December 8, 2008 will also mark the twilight of the Sam Beda years. Ekwe deserves a roaring Indian yell from the Bedan supporters and I hope that he will go on to become a priest. "Stand Up for Sam Beda!" may be the Bedans battlecry in tommorow's battle for 3rd match against Letran.

I can't remember when was the last time i visited SBC. But I'm sure the LRT2 isn't present yet in my last Frolics. hehehe

There was a project campaign the last time for "Plaza Bedista". Did it pushed through? Is it at the quadrangle? May I request for pictures please?

Also, the last new building structure was St Maur's. Do we have new buildings in school? Appreciate pictures as well.

Yes, the quadrangle was renovated.

The Building of College of Nursing is the latest building (that I know). And the renovation of the cafeteria.

4 floors.

Yung cafeteria pinarenovate tapos ginawan na nila ng connection yung snack bar tsaka yung cafeteria mismo.

Meron pa ring corned beef pag breakfast. I'm not sure dun sa beef steak, pero may beef steak pa rin sa cafeteria.

Wala ng ice cream sa loob ng San Beda, sa labas lang. Pero meron siguro ice cream bar ngayon, kasi pinarenovate na, may mga franchised stores na nga ngayon e.

It was during an interview made by Korina Sanchez and was aired on TV Patrol. ABS-CBN tried to get what San Beda and CEU have to say about this but they opted not to say anything..... But 1 thing is for sure, this is not related to the case of Alabang boys.
