Naku! Mahirap yun! Mahahati atensyon niya! :D

Barbosa played from 1996 to 1999. He and Topex (Robinson) were teammates and they were part of the top seed 1999 SSC-R team which lost to the 4th seed Letran Knights.
It's really sad to see coach Gallent leave the Stags after piloting them to 8 straight wins even if it went down the drain. Still, Gallent is a winner in amateur basketball, having won 5 consecutive conference championships for Harbour Centre. Then, he led the Stags to a major turnaround this past 2008 NCAA and even had the skills of someone named Jason Ballesteros polished. Ballesteros could have been an MVP awardee plus a back-to-back Defensive Player of the Year in the NCAA. I hope Raymond Valenzona will just concentrate on his coaching chores with the SSC-R Staglets and not take over the head coach position of the Stags. After all, the Staglets are gunning for a historic 5-peat in the NCAA Juniors after going 5-6-7-8.
I'll go for coach Turo as the Stags' head coach for next season. I believe that Turo can still coach in a very competitive environment. He's also a proven winner. He once led the FEU Tamaraws to a 10-0 sweep of the UAAP Seniors Basketball in 1977 before having their games forfeited because some Tamaraws played in the National Team. Adamson and UP met in the 1977 UAAP Finals, with the former winning the crown. He also led the Tamaraws to a UAAP 3-peat from 1979-1981, including a 10-0 sweep during 1981. Arturo "Bay" Cristobal was a part of that 1979-1981 Tamaraws squad along with Elpidio "Yoyoy" Villamin and 1980-1981 UAAP MVP Anthony Williams. Turo also won 3 PBA crowns for Tanduay Rhum when he went to the professional league. In the 1990s, he led the FEU Tamaraws to back-to-back UAAP crowns from 1991-1992 before transferring to SSC-R. Then, he led the Stags to a historic 4-peat from 1993-1996 before returning to the PBA to coach Pop Cola in 1997. That's a total of 6 consecutive collegiate basketball crowns from 1991-1996. He went on to lead the Stags to another back-to-back NCAA crowns from 2001-2002. He actually turned 60 last 2002. It will surely be a treat for the SSC-R community if they'll be able to witness Turo win another title as a senior citizen.
Who's older? Coach Turo or Coach Francis Rodriguez? Coach Turo is turning 67 next year. He was part of the 1961 UAAP Champion FEU Tamaraws and they defeated UE, 105-84 in the Finals. Only 8 players suited up for that FEU squad and Turo topscored for the team in that Finals clincher with 32 points. Francis Rodriguez was part of the 1973 SSC-R championship squad and he led the Stags to the crown in 1985 as their head coach. Rodriguez is the current coach of the University of Manila Hawks, after taking over from multi-titled mentor Loreto "Ato" Tolentino. Edgar Macaraya, the current SSC-R Cavite Baycats coach, was part of the 1985 SSC-R champion squad and he was actually a cinch to win the MVP award since the Stags won the crown. However, the award went to Mapua's Alvin Patrimonio, much to the dismay of coach Rodriguez of the Stags. Macaraya led the Baycats to the crown against the erstwhile defending champs STI Olympians in the recently-concluded NAASCU tournament. Arturo "Art" Dela Cruz is also a part of Francis Rodriguez' system, having played for the latter during the 1988-1989 back-to-back title romps of the Stags. If he'll be given a chance to coach the Stags, then he'll become the third "Arturo" to hold the team's reins after Arturo Valenzona and Arturo Cristobal.

Nice trivia ah! hehe oo nga nu, puro Arturo pala ang nagcoach sa Stags.
Grabe pala achievements nitong si coach Turo! Kaya naman pala siya nasabihang legendary coach! Pero I wonder bakit siya lumipat sa Baste kung napachampion niya ang FEU ng back to back? It could have been a 5 peat din pala for FEU kung di lumipat si coach Turo. *okay*
I suggest na give the head coaching to coach Turo next season. Then get Bai Cristobal, Art Dela Cruz, Eric Gascon and Raymond Valenzona as his assistant coaches. Then after 1 or 2 years pass the head coaching to one of his assistants. Siguro by that time gusto na rin niya magretire sa pagiging coach! :D

Ballesteros has already finished his playing years in the NCAA (2004-2008). That's an all-Tamaraw coaching staff that pepman from Katipunan wants. I'll go for anybody but Raymond. It will be better if he'll just concentrate in his coaching chores with the Staglets especially since they are about to lose 8 to 9 players next year. A historic 5-peat in the juniors for the Staglets should be given great importance.
Maybe Assistant Coach Joselito "Jolly" Escobar should be given a chance to coach the team in case SSC-R won't pull Turo out of retirement. Should that happen, the Recto-based Golden Stags will become a "Rectoletos" squad as Escobar came from UE, another Recto-based school just like SSC-R. Incidentally, both SSC-R and UE started their first full year of operations in SY 1946-1947. Aside from that, both schools have also experienced historic Seniors Basketball season sweeps in the collegiate leagues that they have played in.

Dela Cruz new Stags mentor
Friday, October 17, 2008
San Sebastian, out to relive its glory years in the NCAA, has tapped for former pro cager Art dela Cruz as the team’s new coach for next season.
Management Committee member Frank Gusi of San Sebastian yesterday said dela Cruz will replace Jorge Gallent, who has resigned after two years with the Stags.
Gusi, however, said they’re still asking for permission from Barangay Ginebra management if they would allow dela Cruz to coach for the Stags. , De la Cruz is one of Jong Uichico’s assistant coaches.
“We’re still asking for permission from Barangay Ginebra, coach Jong (Uichico) told me he’ll talk to management first,” Gusi yesterday told The STAR.
Gusi said they chose De la Cruz for his experience with Ginebra. De la Cruz is also a member of the back-to-back champion team under coach Francis Rodriguez in 1988-1989.
The Stags are hoping to end a three-year Final Four drought, including this year when they lost in the playoffs.
“Of course we want someone who is from San Sebastian. We’re also banking on his (dela Cruz) on his coaching experience in the PBA,” said Gusi. - Joey Villar

Wow! That's great news for the SSC-R community. Dela Cruz has been known as a good defender during his playing days and he has considerable experiences when it comes to coaching. However, he has always been an assistant coach and has never experienced being a full-time head coach. Also, he hasn't experienced coaching in the amateur ranks and this incoming head coach position with the Stags will be sort of a baptism of fire for him. It will also be a nostalgic comeback of sorts for him when he returns to his alma mater exactly 20 years since becoming a part of the 1989 squad which beat Perpetual Help in the Finals. It is like what Frankie Lim experienced with San Beda in 2007. Hopefully, he'll also be able to win a title on his 1st year as a head coach just like what Lim achieved (maybe against Letran also).:)
Dela Cruz' appointment as a head coach will mark the first time in a long time that an SSC-R alumnus will handle the head coaching job for the Stags since Francis Rodriguez, a member of the 1973 SSC-R champion squad and Dela Cruz' coach in the 1980s, held the team's reins way back in 1992. After Rodriguez left the Stags in 1993 and transferred to the UE Red Warriors as a new head coach, former FEU players/alumni with collegiate championship experiences took over the SSC-R team's head coaching position. These former FEU players are:
1. Arturo "Turo/Turing/Braso" Valenzona (SSC-R Head Coach 1993-1996, 2000-2005)
2. Arturo "Bay/Bai" Cristobal (SSC-R Head Coach 1997-1999)
3. Raymond Valenzona (SSC-R Head Coach 2006)
4. George Gallent (SSC-R Head Coach 2007-2008)
Cristobal and Gallent played under Turo's FEU champion squads in the early 1980s (1979-1981) and early 1990s (1991-1992), respectively. Raymond Valenzona was part of the 1997 FEU champion team under Daniel "Danny" Gavierres.

Let's wait and see na lang.

Plus, his surname is Agustin and he'll be coaching an Augustinian school so I'm sure the Stags will be inspired. When Franz Pumaren and Frankie Lim started coaching in the collegiate ranks, both of them don't have any coaching experience at all. Still, they were able to steer their teams to the crown and consecutive championships at that. Pumaren won 4 straight for his alma mater DLSU and Lim recently won a 2nd straight crown for his school SBC.

To confirm:
Meron pong coaching experience si Frankie Lim. He was even one of Coach E's assistants in Purefoods and Mobiline from 1997 to 1999 before becoming the team manager of Mobiline este TnT in 2000.
As for Franz, he briefly handled the Magnolia Ice Cream in the PBL during the 1992 season.
Ask Alaencelo.
Glen Capacio naman, before handling the Tams, assistant coach muna siya ni Koy Banal until 2004 and with Bert Flores from 2005 to 2006.

Frankie Lim was part of the Purefoods coaching staff during its 1997 All Filipino title romp over the Gordon's Gin Boars. However, he was just an assistant coach during that time along with Ryan Gregorio and Louie Alas. Both Lim and Franz Pumaren don't have full-time head coaching jobs prior to steering their schools to their respective championships.

:glee:
