UST-related entries:
- 4-peat run from 93-96 (sweep in '93)
- Dino Aldeguer clutch performance in the 1999 Finals to win it for DLSU over UST
- the crucial jump shot of Allan Evangelista in the 2006 Finals Game 1 with few seconds left only to be clobbered by the one-second play of Doug Kramer to lift ADMU past UST
- the 2006 UST season, from 2-5 in the eliminations, beat AdU in a one-game playoff for the 3rd spot, beat UE twice to enter the Finals, and bucked the heart-breaking Game 1 loss to the eagles in game 1 to win the next 2 games and eventually the championship
- the 5-peat cheerdance title of the Salingawi dance troupe
- of course, year in and year out, the overall performance of UST in all events. 35 seniors' and 10 juniors' championships. *okay*

I don't think it was an upset when FEU defeated ADMU in the 2003 UAAP Finals. The real upset was when FEU defeated ADMU twice in the 2000 UAAP Final Four.

That game was like a 3-point shootout for the Blue Eagles. It was also a baptism of fire for then-La Salle rookie Don Allado who, for the first time, led the Green Archers in scoring after Telan was shackled by the pesky defense of Gabby Cui.

three point shots came like rain during a tsunami! John Verayo and Junie Rentosa were on fire. Brandon Sison even completed a 4pt. play. everything was going right for Ateneo, while DLSU didnt know what hit them. leading by as much as 31points at somepoint in the game.
nostalgia tidbits:
during the pre-game(or was it halftime feature) video, the Blue Eagles did the then popular "Chicken Dance" to honor Maui Roca.
Blue Babble Battalion(Last All-Male Batch) did the now infamous mopping the Araneta floor with a green "DLRT" jacket, did a phallic symbol formation during their halftime performance, and special appearance of the "Mysterious Eagle Man" -- someguy with a Blue Eagle Costume made of blue crepe paper and mooned the DLSU gallery. meriting a protest from DLSU admin asking for a public apology.

Was he really (Maui Roca) "honored" with the "Chicken Dance" or did the dance simply portrayed the Eagles as chickens? I really miss those pre-Enrico Villanueva-Richard Alvarez years or the so-called dark ages of the Ateneo wherein teams run roughshod over them despite John Verayo's extra efforts, Gabriel "Gabby" Cui's "smothering" defense, and Ramon Tioseco's booming threes during garbage time. At least the Blue Eagles made some upsets during 1996 like their win over UST in the 1st round and against DLSU in the 2nd round.

^^^Ateneo's dark ages produced players who really played with a lot of heart. Aside from the three Blue Eagles that you mentioned, guys like Gabby Severino (1990-1994), Basti Lacson (1989-92), Mike Singh (1990-1991), Stephen Santos (1991-1993), Ritchie Ticzon (1989-1993), Vince Hizon (1993), Sandy Arespacochaga (1993-97), Tonichi Pinzon (1995-1998), LA Mumar (1996-1998), Ryan Pamintuan (1996-1999) showed a lot of fighting spirit. At 6'0," Lacson and Singh played the power forward position, went up against giants like Marlou Aquino, EJ Feihl, Jun Limpot, etc. and even received several "in-your-face" shot blocks from these big men as they tried to challenge them. I remember the 6'1" Stephen Santos, during an Ateneo-Adamson game in 1992, tried to shoot over EJ Feihl. Feihl simply swatted Santos's shot but the latter did not give up. After getting the loose ball after that block, Santos tried to shoot over Feihl again, and he succeeded in scoring over the 7-foot Falcon.

At least the Blue Eagles made some upsets during 1996 like their win over UST in the 1st round and against DLSU in the 2nd round.
everytime Ateneo won, it was always an "upset" .. we didnt have any sort of recruitment program then, thats why 85-90% of the team were simply call ups from the Blue Eaglets with a few walk-ins from the IAC -- Intrams! but despite that the players always played with HEART and never gave up till the buzzer sounded. even produced several players who made it to the PBL and PBA. the Blue Babble Battalion and the 6th Man then were the most hardcore you'd ever see. the Atenean crowds then were just a fraction of what it is now but cheered with so much passion and zealotry (i guess only hardcore fanatics would cheer for a losing team) it personified pure pride .. Win or Lose its the School we Choose indeed. i recall several games during the dark ages where Ateneo was clobbered by the powerhouse UST teams of the 90's in the Blue Eagle Gym, but when we went across the street to eat at Mcdonalds, people there would congratulate us for winning .. apparently the Babble cheered so loudly people at Mcdo actually thought we won ..
well that was then.. its a LOT different now. and its good to know that Ateneo Basketball actually learned something from all that losing during the early to mid 90's..
Greatest Moments in UAAP History? we aint seen nothing yet.. History is still being written .. and the best is yet to come.. *okay*

If you've got David Nye there cheering his lungs out, for sure, the few fans would definitely join the cheering with "so much passion and zealotry." Unfortunately, now that Ateneo is on a "run," Nye is out there in Singapore doing the news.

Richard Anthony "Ritchie" Ticzon was the UAAP's leading scorer during 1990 and he averaged in the 20s. I really miss those days when Ateneo's wins over the traditional powerhouses of the UAAP Seniors Division are considered upsets and their Blue Eaglet counterparts in the Juniors Division are almost always sure to win in the Finals just like the San Beda Red Cubs of the NCAA Juniors. Those were the times when the Eagles simply couldn't make it to the top 4 and the only team that they have a chance of defeating is the UP Fighting Maroons or maybe, the Eagles themselves. Indeed, the Ateneo teams during their so-called dark ages were imbued with the "win or lose, it's the school we choose" spirit, "whatever happens, we are still Ateneo" or something like that. By the way, Virgil Villavicencio was the coach of DLSU and not Ateneo HS in the early 1990s.
The defending champions Ateneo can actually have a double celebration for next year (2009). One is their school's 150th anniversary and the other is for the 10th anniversary of the end of their so-called dark ages in UAAP Seniors Basketball with their acquisition of Richard Alvarez, a key player who didn't come from the Blue Eaglets champion teams. It's like what happened to San Beda with the arrival of Samuel Ekwe, The Red Lion from Africa, in 2006. Of course the Eagles during that time had tougher competition (no need to cite examples, just think of Renren Ritualo) compared to the Sam Beda (I spelled it correctly) teams of 2006-2008. Both Alvarez and Ekwe are 2-time MVPs of the UAAP and NCAA, respectively and they both came from abroad prior to joining their respective collegiate teams.

Okay. So Virgil was the Blue Eaglets coach during Adamson's domination of the UAAP Juniors. He also coached DLSU from 1993-1995, the time when UST dominated the UAAP Seniors. That means he is a great coach of bridesmaid teams.
I don't consider those two blocks of Fonacier over Cardona as great. I think it's just funny because Cardona is in a desperate situation to shoot since Mike Cortez seems allergic to get the ball and make the last shot. Cardona probably knows that he will get blocked. Chia's shot against UE is a great one and the intramural hero instantly became a bonfire hero.

Perhaps he's not really destined to win a championship. When he handled the RP Youth team in early 1995, the team placed sixth. Then when he handled teams in the PBL, those teams also did not fare well.

The classic shoot out of Cadic and Jarencio during the 1984 and 1985 UAAP finals.
The first La Salle-Ateneo championship match up during the 1988 season, eventually changing the course of UAAP basketball becoming the undisputed most watch college basketball tournament. A few years later, other schools started to have their own cheers, cheerleaders which has been an NCAA tradition. Thanks to La Salle and Ateneo for bringing the cheers and crowd intensity and influenzing other UAAP schools to have their cheers and cheerleaders during the games.

Game 3 finals between UST and DLSU circa 1994
Two misses from point blank range by Telan and E. Lago in the dying seconds which preserved the 1 or 2 point lead by UST. It has been told that the angels or spirits of deceased Asst. Coach Ascue and other Tomasians blocked those shots.
Fast forward to 2006, Semi finals between UST and UE.
A point blank miss by a UE swingman whose name escapes me in the dying seconds which preserved the 1 or 2 point lead of UST and catapulted UST to the Finals against the highly-fancied Ateneo squad. UE pg Labagala was crying unabashly in the sidelines being comforted by UE Head Coach Dindo Pumaren who himself a former point guard.

I hate all of you
Date: 2009-06-10, 14:35:00
I don't care what colour you are. I don't care where you're from. I don't care what you do for a living. I don't care what class you are, how you dress, what you smoke or drink or who you know or whom you've f.ucked.
I hate you all. I hate every last living, breathing, snot and feces producing, promiscuously copulating, celebrity obsessed, opinionated one of you. From right here in Manila right around the planet and back, coast to coast, nationwide and internationally. Every. Single. Last. One. Of. You.
f.uck love. f.uck your insipid grasping at some abstract concept of chemical imbalances and reasonless actions, fumbling around in the crowd trying to find some cinematic supposition for real human interaction. f.uck lust, too. f.uck you all, from the lowlife dirtbags that think dropping through and waving the little soldier in a sloppy arc is a pick-up line to the sniveling of the desperate 'nice guys' who never get the girl due to a total lack of testosterone grown stones. f.uck you all, from the crazy, under dressed sluts that judge a persons character by the price of their shirt, right down to the fat, flabby chicks that think personality is enough.
f.uck you drivers, for thinking that a yellow light is a sign that says 'step on the gas'. f.uck you wheelmen and women that think it's okay to sit in a left hand turn in the middle of morning traffic, even though there is a protected left in the intersections before and after where you need to make your turn. f.uck you too cyclists - you're not exempt from the traffic laws just because your peddling, you miserable spandex covered neon reflective f.ucks. f.uck you too, pedestrians. Use the f.ucking crosswalk if you don't want to get hit, and use it before the little countdown clock says '3'. You don't have enough goddamn time to lope across four lanes of traffic.
f.uck you chick on your cellphone. f.uck you attitude packed minimum-wager that makes my coffee. f.uck you cops that spend all their time handing out speeding tickets. f.uck you douche bag doing ten over the limit in the passing lane on the highway. f.uck you lady using exact change at the counter at the grocery store. f.uck you kids having a conversation in the doorway. And **** you also for not getting the f.uck out of your designated handicapped seat when a pregnant or elderly person gets on the f.ucking bus.
f.uck taxes. f.uck welfare. f.uck the whole selfish, over politicized and party driven government system. I'm sick and f.ucking tired of policies and new laws with seven hundred bylaws that nobody but you and your cabinet reads. f.uck you councilors and your stupid 'district improvement' plans. f.uck you unions, for asking for so much and giving nothing more that what you already give. f.uck the whole process that allows people who are supposed to be working for us work for interests that only benefit the next campaign. f.uck your short-sightedness, your rush to the bandwagons, and your incessant arguing over f.uck all. f.uck the parties, f.uck the conventions, and f.uck your campaigns. Do some real f.ucking work for a change.
f.uck you bottles of water. You're water. You're not worth two f.ucking dollars.
f.uck you trendsetters, f.uck you fashionistas. f.uck your little dogs and and your idiotic outfits. f.uck your high heels in the snow. f.uck your five dollar coffees and your fifteen dollar veggie burgers. f.uck your health kick, your diet or your f.ucking new interest in kickboxing or sushi.
f.uck your culture. f.uck your race. f.uck your sense of entitlement. f.uck your sense of uniqueness. f.uck you all for the belief that you have something unique and interesting to contribute. f.uck you for filling the internet with your useless garbage. f.uck your blogs, your wikis, your forums. f.uck your name calling. And most of all, f.uck whatever you believe. It's all wrong. f.uck it.
f.uck your complaints. f.uck your addictions. f.uck your dependencies. f.uck your pain. f.uck your tears. f.uck selling whatever it is you sell. f.uck your manipulation of others. f.uck movies. f.uck f.ucking. f.uck everything you own. f.uck your allergies. f.uck your stupid commons sense. f.uck your spelling and f.uck your lack of education, or your ignorance, whatever is applicable.
I don't give a f.uck. Shut the f.uck up and just get on with it.
