Local banks are not greatly affected from the financial crisis in USA. It is still safe to place your funds in these banks. FYI, (I don't know about HSBC) but BPI does not have any direct investments to Lehman Brothers or to any U.S. investment houses. Other mentioned banks - they do have, but their investments are too minimal for them and they can cover up with their assets....

Why? Because of INFLATION (around 12% na this year)

Would you put your money that earns 2% yearly while the economy is making it lose 12% value each year? This is a net loss of 10% my friend.

For bonds it's the same risk, INFLATION and floating bank lending rates.
