i know it is too early to predict the next season. but i really can't help it. Im sure the Green Archers will do their best to steal the crown from the Blue Eagles in Season 72.

My predictions:

~Back to back for Ateneo.
~Adamson sa Final four?
~Wala ng UP-UST-FEU sa CDC.
~Mahirap kumuha ng tickets.
~MAs mahal ang benta ng scalper.

genecarlo
Sep 25, 2008, 09:04 PM
that is possible, if pumaren made a good impression with his players at the rp youth team...

ateneo will still be good next season, chiu lang yata ang matinding mawawala sa kanila... others schools will lose bigger names in their squad (ust-jervy, ue-marcy, lasalle-casio, nu-asoro...to name a few)

DLSU, FEU in the final 4

ADMU for a title defense (since tiu will be gone but the strong big men line-up remains intact)

No more NABRO (sana)

No winless teams

brainfart
Sep 25, 2008, 09:26 PM
wala na rin kayong Chris Tiu pano yan?

I don't think Ateneo needs Tiu to retain the title next season. He contributes a lot, yes, but I'm sure Coach Black has someone in mind to fill in the gap he's leaving.

Besides, the way the Ateneo Basketball system works now, team dynamics ang priority ny Black. Buenafe's coming into his second year with the team, and I expect he'll play even better than this year.

One Big Fight!

Diablong_Bungo
Sep 25, 2008, 09:53 PM
maraming papasok na big men sa mga teams next year. the center position will balance out with green horns unless meron rookie big man na batak sa banggahan.

my take on whats to come sa next season for DLSU and ADMU(sorry la kase ako mashadong alam about the other teams e...:():
*Ateneo
- malakas pa rin ang ateneo kahet wala na si tiu,as long as they have rabeh on offense and baclao on defense.
- buenafe will be only playing his 2ND year... and thats one scary fact dahel angaleng nya kahet rookie palang siya.
- bangko pa rin malamang si chua
- i think salamat will cover for the loss of tiu...

*Lasalle
- im hoping na they can find someone to take the scoring load jvee will be leaving behind...
- obviously si rico yung magiging leader ng team along maybe with mangahas.
- one player na sana madevelop pa for next season is LA Revilla, he's got the potential and he has shown it in some games this season. masgusto ko pa nga siya ang ginagamet kay sa kay simon atkins na walang kashooting shooting :grrr: bawas sa unforced turnovers and
wala na sana siyang gaweng "bang bang" :naughty:

I think ADMU-FEU ang finals next year. Makakalaro na si Long ng long minutes (haha) and makakalaro na talaga yung mga ibang bench players natin. Meron tayong log jam sa center position kasi kung makuha pa natin si Bringas...

I think there are only three teams who are more or less sure of a spot in the final four next year. These teams are Admu, Dlsu, and Feu. The final spot will either go to UP or UE. UE will be in rebuilding next year because they will lose players like Espiritu, Arellano, and Thiele. Expect Coach Pumaren to make the necessary adjustments, but still they will have a pretty young, inexperienced team. UP, on the other hand, will still have a young, intact team, and their performance will also somehow depend on the recruits that they will have for next year. Finally, I think the championship will either go to Admu, again, or FEU.

i'm optimistic about UP next season, puro na sila veterans, 4th year na sina martin reyes, migs de asis and woody co... add mark lopez, gamboa and hopefully a mala-rabeh improvement ni magi sison

Sep 26, 2008, 12:48 AM
^^ sana we will have a player like JV again para ma balance yung yabang ni rico, kahit dati ganyan naman eh, 2004 andyan pa si mac mac arana yeo pero andyan na din si JV. pero sayang din kawalan ni rico, hindi sana nakuha ni baclao yung mga rebound kung na box out nya at na out jump nya si baclao.

we hope and belive we would get back the championship if we recruit some beef and height even though guard play must still be the focal point. if we get alas thats a big plus. seen this kid since he was grade 4 at LPC. he was very small then but outplayed the bigger kids even his big brother. hope alas doesn't persuade his son to replace jazul next year.

ADMU is favorite, DLSU and FEU are toss up again, ue up ust even adu might make it

Bahay_Kubo
Sep 26, 2008, 12:48 AM
jmaroons23: UP can make it into next year's Final Four provided that the Lipa boys (Reyes, who, in my humble and honest opinion, will be the best shooting guard in the UAAP next year given the graduation of Casio, Tiu and Fernandez; De Asis; Co; Sison; Gamboa; Lopez) will mature in time and that Coach Aboy Castro will be able to get good recruits, most especially players who can man the 4 and 5 spots. :)

Ateneo, La Salle and FEU seem to be the ones who are "assured" of a Final Four slot while the fourth Final Four slot may end up with any one among UP, UE and, yes, Adamson. ;)

if up is gonna make a serious bid for a final 4 slot, malaki ang kinalaman ng veterans dito, di pa ako nakakakita ng big man rookie, out of hs, who made an immediate impact since rico v and rich a... like what i said, if sison makes a rabeh-sque turnaround next season, dadali ang trabaho nina migs de asis, martin reyes and even mark lopez

Ateneo once more on our 150th! :)

Chris and Yuri are the only ones leaving so we still have a formidable team.

Of course DLSU, FEU final four.

The last one IDK. UE and UST will lose key players (i.e Jervy Cruz) kasi.

UP naman, IDK still. Siguro in 3 years baka puede na.

now that's the challenge to both Coach Aboy Castro and Coach Jerry Codiñera. something should be done to improve both Magi Sison and Andrew Marfori ala-Rabeh Al-Hussaini aside from beefing up the 4 and 5 spots with much needed recruits (which is why i am still hoping that Arvie Bringas and, maybe, Russel Escoto would really consider going to UP since it is the time that is in dire need of bigs who can man the power forward and center positions).

dapat din sigurong mag-mature pa nang husto ang point guards, most especially Gamboa. kung maganda ang ball handling, passing and play-making skills ng mga point guards, magkakaroon ng magandang screens ang ibang role players like Reyes and Sison.

hindi alphabetical ang hosting ng UAAP

ang sequence ng hosting ay UP, UST, FEU, NU, Ateneo, DLSU, UE, Adamson

Season 68 (2005-2006) - UE
Season 69 (2006-2007) - Adamson
Season 70 (2007-2008) - UST nakipagswitch sa UP
Season 71 (2008-2009) - UP
Season 72 (2009-2010) - FEU
Season 73 (2010-2011) - NU
Season 74 (2011-2012) - Ateneo
Season 75 (2012-2013) - DLSU

so, FEU talaga ang maghost next season.

anyway.

ONTOPIC:

i expect Ateneo, FEU and La Salle sa Final Four.

hindi ko pa alam ang tungkol sa UE, UST, UP, Adamson, NU.

Ateneo will be a very formidable team. imagine that they will only be losing 2 players, Chris Tiu and Yuri Escueta. though this would dampen their guard lineup, they still have Kirk Long, Jai Reyes, Bacon Austria AND Eric Salamat to plugup the hole these two will be leaving. their powerful and intimidating frontline will still be there add a rejuvenated Jobe Nkamakolam and Mike Baldos. and just like the past 2 seaons im excited to see which player Norman Black will be waving his Black Magic to -- next year's Most Improved Blue Eagle. Ateneo's recruitment is solid, so expect a few blue chippers to don the Blue and White next year and prolly some callups from Team Glory Be. the future is indeed looking bright for the boys from Katipunan.

That will be hard with the exodus of Casio and, maybe, Rico. Casio was undoubtedly a JV Casio team this year.

Ateneo still has a good chance. All the big guys are still there. Only Chris and Yuri will be gone.

From the looks of it, he has to improve a lot. What DLSU needs are big men that can go toe-to-toe with baclao, rabeh and others like them. DLSU, basing it on the remaining guys, will still be an outside shooting team next year.

Mahihirapan talaga DLSU next year pero if the system is there, may chance sa F4.

Oh, there will be big men alright. We expect some big rookies to come in. What La Salle really needs is a big man trainer. Walsham had massive potential when he came in. Too bad hindi nahasa. If Marko didn't have that injury, he would have matched up to Rabeh quite nicely. I see big things for Ferdinand next year.

You're right. If DLSU stays as an outside shooting team next year, we're as good as dead. But if those 3 I mentioned improve drastically, we might just give Ateneo a run for their money.

I have to agree with that pare

DLSU played this season without a legitimate big man....

Walsham had the physique but did not have the strength and moves

Ferdinand has the potential but was very RAW

DLSU needs to train Ferdinand to be a presence inside.....

IMO DLSU should hire an Ex-Pro player who was a C or PF during his playing days.....

He should be taught how to shoot the ball properly, kailangan matutnan niyan rin kung paano gumalaw kapag nasa paint ka na fakes, sides steps putbacks etc.

Kaya siya nasusupalpal palagi.....kasi pag talon niya hanggang sa point na malapit na ang release ng bola......2 kamay pa rin ang hawak niya sa bola(Same as Mangahas)......Eventually a player who timed his jump properly will be able to block his shot kasi magkadikit pa ang kamay niya kahit dapat release na ng bola......He should tr to learn the shots of Al Hussaini......Yun ang tamang tira ng Centro....Ferdinand has the potential.....He has the physique and agility of a young Danny Ildefonso. Kailangan lang talaga madevelop siya eh Kasi parang di niya pa alam kung SF siya or PF/C dapat ang laro niya.

Without 2 or 3 legitimate big men......mahihirapan talaga DLSU manalo ng Championship......The Final Four is not a problem......

Revilla has extreme potential for his speed and agility......Pero mahina pa ang shooting niya......Isa pang napansin ko.....Parang Korean maglaro to si Revilla......Sugod sa loob tapos talon.....kapag may bantay tapon sa labas......Bahala na kung may makakakuha.....He should be taught by Coach Franz kung paano magpasa ng bola ng maayos.....Kasi he has a habit of becoming too excited at times therefore making him reckless......ang dami niyang turnovers nung Finals Game 1........Pero if trained properly and given the proper exposure......He can be the new Johnny Abarrientos

Playing without a legitimate C and PF can be compared to a 3-point shootout....Puro tira sa labas tapos wala pang 2nd chance points kasi walang rebounders.....

If ever that happens......DLSU would need to improve its 3 point shooting......Kasi yun lang ang magiging weapon natin.

The Main 5 of DLSU next season would be

PG=Revilla SG=Malabes SF=Mangahas PF=Villanueva or Barua
C=Ferdinand or Marko(maglalaro pa ba to?)

Support team

PF or SF or SG=Bagatsing, Webb
PG=Atkins(babalik pa ba?)

If DLSU can get 2-3 legitimate big men......It would be a whole new ballgame for DLSU......

We all have to remember.......DLSU was not beaten 20 points above this year.....With its line-up.....Even if Casio was present....Mahina talaga.

So IMO this is the weakest line-up ng DLSU.....

Sa simula palang ng season sabi ko mahina tayo this year.......

Pero proud na rin ako.....Kasi mahina na ang line-up nakarating pa sa finals eh

Lets just hope that the team improves.......

Read the comments of Bill Velasco, specially the last 2 paragraphs. Let us see if the information of Bill Velasco is accurate. If it is, Bahay Kubo is going to be disappointed.

Bill shortchanged the number of DLSU recruits from their team B, the Nokia National Youth team. There may be as many as 6 recruits, 3 are/will be attending classes at Taft right now in Gab Banal and Jed Manguera. Torres from Toronto will follow suit as he arrived a tad late for the start of the current quarter since school was still on-going in Toronto. Who are the other recruits? DLSU leads the recruiting of center Papot Paredes of Cagayan de Oro and former UPIS players Marata and Tolentino who transferred to Reedley this school year. All can play next season except for Torres who has to sit out another year as a Fil-something.

What did it for Ateneo
THE GAME OF MY LIFE By Bill Velasco
Saturday, September 27, 2008

The Ateneo community is joyously celebrating the end of a six-year championship drought. It was particularly sweet for head coach Norman Black and Chris Tiu, who had endured criticism and frustration for four years, mostly at the hands of De La Salle. This time around, the shoe was on the other foot.

As expected, the defending champion Green Archers came out smoking, totally flustering the Blue Eagles, and sending fear into the Ateneo faithful. Two quick fouls on Most Valuable Player Rabeh Al-Hussaini added to the paranoia.

But the bench delivered mightily soon after. Not counting a desperate buzzer-beating attempt, Jobe Nkemakolam knocked in four shots to help construct a 15-point Ateneo lead. In the second half, La Salle struck again, bucking the controversial ejection of Rico Maierhofer for allegedly flipping a dirty finger at Al-Hussaini to spear in five three-pointers in the third period to slash the deficit to three.

Video review, even with ABS-CBN’s state-of-the-art magnifying equipment, proved inconclusive.

So what did it for Ateneo? A look back at the season will reveal a mix of tangibles and intangibles did the job.

Rebounding. No two ways about it, Ateneo was solid off the boards. The dominance kept the Green Archers from running as much as they wanted, and getting second shots in the series. The Green Archers’ dependence on the outside shot also made it easier for the Blue Eagles to reign in the boards.

Defense. The bigs of DLSU were constantly frustrated by the interior defense and help defense of the AdMU. Finals MVP Nonoy Baclao’s seven blocks in Game One and five in Game Two made it almost impossible for the champions to penetrate, and added to their aggravation.

Consistency. Although they had difficulty breaking La Salle’s bench initially, Ateneo found ways to advance the ball along the sideline, or bring a big man up the middle to release the ball to. Also, Ateneo was consistent in their defense, and made the free throws when it mattered. More importantly, save for the third quarter of Game Two, they showed the consistent toughness that eventually repulsed De La Salle.

Bench Contribution. Nkemakolam, Eric Salamat and Bacon Austria all chipped in at vital points of the series. When DLSU’s bench was falling short or tightening up on defense, Ateneo’s depth proved a big difference. When Al-Hussaini sat down for almost the entire first half of Game Two, yet Ateneo built a 15-point lead.

In summary, the Blue Eagles’ depth and defense defused De La Salle’s explosiveness. De La Salle only needed better execution, especially from the subs, to change the outcome.

Looking ahead, four of the five players on the floor at the end of the game for Ateneo – Al-Hussaini, Baclao, Rookie of the Year Ryan Buenafe and Jai Reyes – will be back next year. There are reports that San Sebastian Staglet behemoth Arvie Bringas (like Buenafe before him, also heavily recruited) will join the Blue Eagles. Add to this the pair of Fil-Am Dichavez brothers who will add more athleticism to Ateneo. One of them currently plays for Team B, while the younger one is finishing his tenure with Benedictine International School, which produced All-Rookie Team member Clark Bautista of UST.

But don’t cry any tears for De La Salle. The Green Archers are a proud team with a history of excellence. It seems logical that Franz Pumaren will recruit heavily from the extremely tall Nokia-Philippine Youth Team, which he also handled. Initial reports indicate that he may end up with four members of the team.

Nothing is definite until the recruit is actually registered and attending classes in Katipunan. Last year, 3 star recruits ended up bolting ADMU and 2 resurfaced as future stars for other UAAP teams.

I will be shock if Eric and Ryan has not brought up the idea to Arvie about him joining them in Katipunan but they were watching the championship game to give support to their former teammates and coach.

What people are forgetting is that Norman Black started to romance certain recruits as early as their freshman year even before other rival coaches ever noticed the recruit until it was to late. Players are flattered by all this attention and remember it when it was time to choose a college.

It was Eric Salamat who brought Ryan and Arvie to Moro during his tryouts. Ryan and Arvie were allowed to join the tryouts though they were underclassmen. Everyone now knows that Ryan had been practicing with ADMU for a couple of years before he even officially donned the ADMU uniform for the summer tournaments. A pex'er from DLSU posted early this year that Arvie actually wore an ADMU uniform during a Youth tryout at BEG. I hope that was a harbinger for the future.

No! To my knowledge, Raymond Valenzona is neither a bugaw or street agent for the Baste players. He subscribes to the credo of Ato Badolato of training the recruits to secure a college scholarship in Baste or a better school. He does not stand in their way if the players get offers from UAAP schools who will take care of the players better than Baste. As you can see, Reyes and Lee are playing for UE, Dizon played for UST. The former 2 I believe were part of the tryouts in Moro together with Eric while Jun Dizon was a year ahead.

Raymond Valenzona could have used Reyes, Lee and Salamat for the college team. He held the dual position of coach for both the mens and high school team of Baste for 2 years while his father was also the consultant of the team. None of the star high school players of Baste donned the seniors uniform. Valenzona was eventually replaced as college coach.

Valenzona will be rebuilding the high school team next season. Eight or nine of the players are scheduled to graduate or be ineligible after this season. If a school is looking for a big man project, Andrada and Mamaril are worthy prospects who can hone their skills and strengths playing for team B for a year or two. Mike Baldos and Jobe paid their dues playing for ADMU team B. Heck, Jervy Cruz was a project in UST for 2 years before making varsity. Rico Maierhofer was on DLSU team B for a year.

I also predict that NABRO will get the f*ck away from the UAAP.

Dunno about that, my prediction is that DLSU, if judging by this years lineup and who will be gone next year, will be fighting for the 4th spot in the final 4 next year. FEU will be the one team that tests Ateneo's leadership. ADU will be solid next year. DLSU, even if they lack the tools has Pumaren at the helm and he is a pretty good coach, barring all the negativity surrounding him in every loss they had. UST, DLSU and UE will all have relatively weaker lineups so the coach would be the deciding factor, I think. NU will be a force to reckon with in few years time...not next year, though.

DLSU can make it with or without Rico. DLSU has the pieces as well as a massive room for improvement with guys such as Bader,Barua,Walsh,Maui and LA at their helm.

I hope Bader develops that scary Killer instinct of his. He just needs consistency as he is one of the few La Salle players capable of scoring in unanswered bursts. I also am looking forward to an improved Barua next season with that wierd teardrop/hook/shot of his.

Simon, assuming that Rico would choose not to play, can be the new King Archer as his style of play is well-suited for La Salle's defense. LA would be La Salle's main 6th man as he has the uncanny ability to pump up the octane in La Salle's offense with his speed. He just needs to develop Atkins' composure when it comes to the defensive end so as not to commit too much rookie errors.

Walsham has the potential to be La Salle's main body inside the paint. If Marko stays healthy next season, all the better for us. As for Ferdi, he's okay.

I hope we get good rookies for next season preferably an inside presence. Not to mention get a good big man coach, in order for Walsh and Ferdi to reach their full potential.

If you ask me, something's wrong with Bader this season. Compared to last season, he's regressed. Di kaya lumaki ang ulo niya dahil nagchampion last year?

Simon? He has a LLLOOOOONNNNNGGGG way to go before he can become the King Arccher. He needs to vastly improve his skills if he wants to be the main man.

Hindi ako bilib sa develpoment ng mga Bigs niyo either
1) They're not that enthusiastic to improve themselves skillwise
2) So-so ang big man coach niya.

Either way. Nasasayang ang potential ng mga bigs niyo. Si Walsham naman nagregressed compared to last season.

I have to agree with that pare

DLSU played this season without a legitimate big man....

Walsham had the physique but did not have the strength and moves

Ferdinand has the potential but was very RAW

DLSU needs to train Ferdinand to be a presence inside.....

IMO DLSU should hire an Ex-Pro player who was a C or PF during his playing days.....

ano tawag mo kay Tonichi Yturri? palamuti lang ba sya sa DLSU coaching staff? :rotflmao:

i know it is too early to predict the next season. but i really can't help it. Im sure the Green Archers will do their best to steal the crown from the Blue Eagles in Season 72.

Btw, who will be hosting next season?

i heard that feu will be hosting next yr. paulit ulit na sinasabi nung awarding ng womens basketball then before the game ng jr. today sept.27 :)

Malay natin, :D I still see Bader shining for La Salle in the near future. It has always been a case of inconsistency for all of our players. Bader will be unstoppable for a very brief moment in one game, then turn back to the sucky Bader. I don't know, let's just see next season. Hoping that Rico does indeed return next season para siya muna yung humawak ng role ng King Archer, as well as fix his reputation next season. All the best, good luck to us and good luck to your Ateneo. :D *okay*

I think Eric Salamat could become a legit MVP candidate next year. Si Ryan Buenafe naman, pang Mythical.

Jobe should get back to his old playing weight. Bacon Austria should be in better shape.

Kirk Long will get back his confidence. Vince Burke will see more playing time than Justin Chua.

I hope either Justin or Vince can compliment Rabeh Al-Hussaini and Nonoy Baclao para magkaroon ng Triple Towers ang Ateneo.

Hmm, si Salamat pang MVP? I dunno, the MVP award really prefer big men and Rabeh is still there next season.

Bacon Austria has improved tremendously, I would say. At first, I didn't even think that he can transition from being a center in HS to a point-forward in college in just one season. Although he is still somewhat prone to TOs, I think that next year, he will be more effective in that spot, using his size to bully smaller forwards and guards.

As for Jobe, I see so much potential in him. He will re-emerge next year as the 2nd offensive option down low. He is even wider than Rabeh and ADMU is no. 1 in big man development so I can see him average 10-12 pts per game next year.

Burke and Chua would still play limited minutes as there is still Jobe, Nonoy and Rabeh. Long will hopefully get his groove and his offensive game back next season.

Buenafe will be a possible M5 candidate. Salva will be primary sub for Nonoy or can be a very big SF that can sub for Buenafe.

eric needs to improve his leadership and passing skills. he's not a deadly scorer as chris tiu. he's better attacking the basket rather than hitting it from the outside although he has shown improvement in his jumpshot this season.

ryan needs to improve his jumpshot, ball handling and passing skills. however, his drive to the basket is simply unstoppable and highly reliable. great upper body and balance even against tough big men. i hope he doesn't suffer sophomore jinx. maybe an instant contender for the mythical five.

rabeh will still be the legit contender for the mvp plum. with most veteran big men gone in the league, rabeh will DOMINATE the scoring and boards department.

kirk long? i hope he regains the confidence that he got during his rookie year. i still believe in this kid and i express my preference on kirk over bacon.

i'm afraid that justin might get his playing time come season 73 (due to presence of the veteran big men)..and will start showing his true potential by season 74...

i expect nonoy baclao to improve on his offense. this year, we got a glimpse of what he can do..midrange jumpshot, shot behind the arc and some low post moves. with norman black's supervision, i'm expecting a more offensive minded baclao (of course, defense will still be his no.1 weapon).

is jobe still playing next year? i think he's already reached the max age of 25 if i'm not mistaken.

the top two teams for next year would be ateneo and feu. la salle might come up again with "surprise" recruits from rp youth team so we can't count them out even with the departure of a legit score like jv casio. ue might just slipped out of the final four with ust and adamson or nu competing for it.

Well logically speaking.......

Kaya nga sabi ko maghanap ng magtuturo kay Ferdinand eh

If Tonichi Yturri is the one training the kid right now.....He's not training him well.......Ang sama ng mga inside moves ni Ferdinand. He's not playing as a Center.

Tonichi Yturri was a player and is a coach at present.....Pero I'm not really sure of his training skills.

During his playing days.....Alam ko nakasali siya sa NCC as a back up center....Tapos naglaro siya sa SMB where he had a good career...Magaling din naman siya noon. I saw him play personally before during a friendly game with some of his former classmates...Ka-batch ng uncle ko yan sa DLSU eh.

Probably he was not a fundamentally solid player back then?
Take a look at Kareem and Andrew Bynum. Now of course a lot of people think that Drew is so blessed that a HOFer is his official mentor. But some of these people do forget that Kareem also had great fundamentals that he utilized as a big man.

It might be a similar case to the 2003 ADMU team falling to the Tams after winning an emotional title. The Tams will be the team to beat next to the Eagles. Sa Eagles, they will only be losing Tiu and Yuri and Yuri is just a player used if it's versus La Salle to guard Casio who will be graduating this year. Sa Tams naman, Baracael, Fernandez and Adolfo will be gone. But they have a lot of back-ups to fill those positions. But ADMU still has the upperhand since it's a team known for its players who step up when needed.

Dude, I don't think it's right to blame it on UP. It has been UAAP's routine that after the finals the other opponent who lost the game will stay on the court to receive their trophy, am I right? Well I understand that it was a painful lost but they should have at least showed their sportsmanship and a little respect to all the people who were there and watching at home. They even had the host waited and begged for a DLSU representative to accept the awards but nobody showed up. I don't think it was appropriate.
Remember the 2005 championship between FEU and DLSU, DLSU players almost walked out and did not want to get their trophy after losing to FEU (This was the season that the batukan incident happened).

You mean to say that UAAP officials or let say the Host should have gone to the locker room to get the players just to give the trophy or tell them that the trophy is ready for pick up? I don't think UAAP does that. Plus this is just a matter of common sense that after announcing the 3rd runner up then they should know that they were next cos they were 2nd runner up, right? DLSU has been with this league for so many years and they keep saying how many times they've been in the finals so they should know better that after the finals showdown is the awarding ceremony and they should know that they have to stay but they just opted not to because they have lack of sportsmanship which I was not surprise.

eric needs to improve his leadership and passing skills. he's not a deadly scorer as chris tiu. he's better attacking the basket rather than hitting it from the outside although he has shown improvement in his jumpshot this season.

ryan needs to improve his jumpshot, ball handling and passing skills. however, his drive to the basket is simply unstoppable and highly reliable. great upper body and balance even against tough big men. i hope he doesn't suffer sophomore jinx. maybe an instant contender for the mythical five.

rabeh will still be the legit contender for the mvp plum. with most veteran big men gone in the league, rabeh will DOMINATE the scoring and boards department.

kirk long? i hope he regains the confidence that he got during his rookie year. i still believe in this kid and i express my preference on kirk over bacon.

i'm afraid that justin might get his playing time come season 73 (due to presence of the veteran big men)..and will start showing his true potential by season 74...

i expect nonoy baclao to improve on his offense. this year, we got a glimpse of what he can do..midrange jumpshot, shot behind the arc and some low post moves. with norman black's supervision, i'm expecting a more offensive minded baclao (of course, defense will still be his no.1 weapon).

is jobe still playing next year? i think he's already reached the max age of 25 if i'm not mistaken.

the top two teams for next year would be ateneo and feu. la salle might come up again with "surprise" recruits from rp youth team so we can't count them out even with the departure of a legit score like jv casio. ue might just slipped out of the final four with ust and adamson or nu competing for it.

25 ba or 26 na?

Ateneo will be hosting for the next season.

Back2Back!

Wala nang Casio eh.

pepman.
FEU will be the host next season.
Nakalagay sa FEU Advocate- (FEU's official campus newspaper)
sinabi din ni Boom Gonzalez during a basketball game 2nd round matchup between FEU and UP.

Final Four prediction:

FEU - UAAP Season 72's Host. Marnel Baracael and Benedict Fernandez are the key losses for the Tamaraws but knowing FEU for an excellent provincial recruitment plus the Team B and UAAP Juniors team and with scoring playmaker and recently RP team member and PBL Finals MVP Mark Barroca leading the way, this team is one of the favorites to win it on Season 72. Emerging big men Riel Cervantes and last season's leading shot blocker Aldrech Ramos proved they can fill the void Baracael left after the gunshot incident. Add JR Cawaling to provide boost for the Morayta-Based squad and swingman Paul Sanga, who showed some scoring outputs in Season 70 but was given limited playing time last season because of the injury he had before the season started. FEU, who has the most number of basketball titles with 19, will try to make it 20 as they are close to bring back the glory days and take charge in Season 72.

ADMU - Reigning UAAP MVP Rabeh Al-Hussaini and Rookie Of The Year Ryan Buenafe will lead this team for a possible back-to-back championship. The Blue Eagles have the deepest bench in the league last year led by former San Sebastian Stag Eric Salamat, who will know take over the starting spot after hotshot Chris Tiu departs. Defensive Player of the Year Nonoy Baclao and playmaker Jai Reyes will try to help the Blue Eagles to a possible Back-to-Back championships.

DLSU - Such a dissapointing performance and blown out by rival Ateneo in last year's UAAP Finals, the Green Archers will try to bounce back next season. This time, no JV Casio around. Rico Maierhofer will be the team's focal point-getter. Pj Barua, Simon Atkins, Joshua Webb and Bader Malabes will still be around. Ferdinand porved last year he can score and play good defense too. The Archers are still one of the teams to watch next season.

UE - Dindo Pumaren tried to win a championship for UE, unfortunately, he was 2 games away on capturing the title. After a 14-0 performance in Season 70, they went 0-2 in the finals costing them the championship. New Head Coach Lawrence Chongson , a former La Salle mentor, will try to lead this talented team. UE will always be strong, but they always fell short in the Final Four and they'll try to prevent that.

so far, i think FEU, ADMU and DLSU are sure shoo-ins for men's basketball Final Four next UAAP season. the fourth Final Four spot will be a toss-up among UE, UP and AdU, with the Red Warriors holding a clear advantage over the Fighting Maroons and the Falcons.

in women's volleyball, i am thinking that FEU, UST and DLSU will be shoo-ins for the Final Four but the fourth Final Four slot will go to a much stronger ADMU team instead of AdU.

in men's volleyball, it might be the same Final Four cast as Season 71- UST, UP, DLSU and ADMU. the only difference is that the Fighting Maroons and the Blue Eagles are the strongest men's volleyball teams in Season 72 while the defending champions Growling Tigers might have to settle for the 3rd Final Four spot given key losses within their ranks and the Green Archers having to contend with the FEU Tamaraws for the fourth Final Four spot.

BK, DLSU in season 71 relied heavily on captain JV. It will be interesting to see how they will operate without the good captain. I agree with you in your predictions although I think the third spot will be contested by the warriors and the archers in the same way that the first will be contested by the tams and the eagles. Pero sana makasingit UP sa F4...para happy ka na :D

^ DLSU will always be in the Final Four. it's the program, not the players, that is the reason for the Green Archers' success in UAAP basketball.

the only difference this time is that it would be more difficult for DLSU to make that trip back to the Finals unlike in Season 71 and past seasons.

I have this gut feeling that whether or not Maierhofer stays with the Archers for next season, they will still make it to the Final 4.DLSU has still the best basketball program in the U.A.A.P..

Next seasons team may be a bit green literally but I agree with the statement of Greenarrows in AP.com, DLSU will contend for the twice to beat position with Maierhofer. Without Maierhofer, the final 4 is very attainable. Here are my reasons:

Casio leaves a big void but there is enough talent in the current roster. Barua, Bagatsing and Malabes will have to step up and be more consistent scorers. Revilla has a year of experience to run the guard oriented program of Pumaren. Will Atkins be the proper back-up to Revilla or will Bagatsing slide as the back-up pg?

There will be at least 5 experience blue chippers coming from the national youth team coached by Pumaren in Banal, Manguera, Tolentino, Marata and Paredes. The new recruits are only rookies by name but have been soaking up the Pumaren system for almost a year and a half.

I will not be shock if Arvie Bringas ends up playing for DLSU. He will shore up the forward line with/without Rico. My gut feel is that there is another blue chip wing player that is being recruited who is currently under the radar.

DLSU did reasonably well in the current FMC tournament sans some of the veteran players. The training in the States and if the trip to Belgrade materializes will only help the team get ready for the UAAP.

DLSU WVT will still have a good shot for back to back championship.

They still have Steph, Jacq, Cha, Celine, Kaye and Liss. hindi pa natin alam ang impact ng ibang bench players ng DLSU.

FEU naman losing Daquis is like losing a complete player. Malaking butas ang kailangan mabalik kay Rachel. of course they still have improving Vivas, Jose and siyempre Shaira and Morada.

UST walang key loss sa kanila except maybe Tan sabi nga sa rumors but with Rhea and Maizo still with UST a final four slot next year is still at reach. Bernice Co's decision to play next season is still a question though.

Adamson naman, I hate to say this but kung wala silang key recruitment next seaon mukhang mabooted out sila ng final four. Sana magimprove si Hiponia especially last playing year na nila Benting and Gata next season.

ADMU will be always darkhorse sa volleyball but with coach Gorayeb with them plus no key losses sa kanila and coach Gorayeb is looking for a prized rookies muknahg final four slot next year will be at good hands sa lady eagles.

Nothing is official but there are posts in other foras, AP.com and Gameface, that Rico Maierhofer is bound for the PBA. The offer is for him to be the overall first pick of the PBA draft by BK. When you have others to take care off, it is hard to say no to the top salary offered by the PBA.

The Contenders prediction:

UST - Unable to qualify for the Final four last season after entering the last two years and even bagged their 18th title in Season 69, the Tigers are looking forward to return to the Final Four this season. Jervy Cruz, like Rico Maierhofer of DLSU, has the option if they want to spend their senior year for their respective schools or bang it up directly to the pros. While leading scorer Dylan Ababou will be the main man next season as he tries to lead this young UST team. Gone is playmaker Japs Cuan, while sophomore Clark Bautista, who showed some impressive shooting and scoring outputs last year will try to fill the void left by Cuan in the PG slot. Khasim Mirza will lead the bench together with Jeric Fortuna. This team may end up banging with UE for the Final Four slot.

UP - Considered as a darkhorse this season. After going 0-14 in Season 70 and a coaching change, they showed last year that they can compete even with the league's youngest roster. Martin Reyes, Woody Co and Jay Agabayani led the Fighting Maroons from Diliman last season and even had a hard fought battle with stronger teams such as ADMU and FEU. And because of their impressive plays, Mike Gamboa and Migs De Asis' minutes were limited and even lost their starting spots. But now, last year's Centennial Hosts are more matured. But when you let this guys play together, they are dangerous. Will this be the time they may be able to enter the Final Four?

AdU - Since Ken Bono left, the Falcons had two straight dissapointing seasons finsihing second to NU last year in the last place of the standings. Eventough Patrick Cabahug led the league in scoring in Season 70, Adamson had a hard time in winning. Marc Agustin tried to led this Kalaw-based team last year but still, lack of support resulted in a dissapointing season. Will there be another Kenneth Duremdes? Marlou Aquino? or even Ken Bono for the Falcons in Season 72? Will they be able to Soar?

NU - NU Bulldogs. They had a colorful year in Season 64. That was the last time to enter the Final Four, that team was led by Rey Mendoza, Froilan Baguion, Jeff Napa to name a few but was shattered by then-champion Ritualo-led DLSU in the Semi-finals. Then came Edwin Asoro, Jonathan Fernandez, Joseph Lingao-Lingao and Jonathan Jahnke but still, they failed to lead the Bulldogs to another fruitful season. Finishing in lowest place the last 4 of 5 seasons. Now these guys are gone, they will rely on the young team they had. But who knows? Maybe the Bulldogs will pull-off a suprise run just like what they did 8 seasons ago.
