Is it? Jackets are fine with me but somehow, I've always thought that you can only carry it off if you're in the performing arts (ex. band). I tried wearing one though (out of a dare), and I was constantly teased by my friends. They'd say "What's my name b*tch?!" with the matching slap-the-butt action.

i think it's terribly cool :) i have my own pair of leather pants and i think they're nice. it just really depends on the type of leather and the fit of the pants and how the person carries her/himself. eh kung mala mystica yung dating ng leather (i.e. cheap shiny PVC type 'leather' pants and same goes with pleather), kadiri na talaga yon. as for wearing it around manila, i think it's too warm down there. here in NYC, it's just a typical thing you wear around town.

It's too funny because we always laugh at people in the Philippines who wear leather jacket. Bong Revilla is no.1 on my list. Sobrang init d'yan para mag-leather jacket .

I kind of dislike wearing leather jackets because they're so heavy. Yes, it looks cool, but if I had to wear a jacket outdoors for a good amount of time, I'd rather wear a nice light weight nylon jacket lined with down or fabric. Or also a nice thick fabric jacket with a warm liner.
The only time I deem it absolutely neccessary to wear my leather jacket is when I ride my motorcycle since the strong leather jacket not only provides warmth, it also provides protection as well.
Here is the leather jacket I wear when I ride my bike:

sorry, but i have to agree. it's waaay too warm to wear in a tropical climate.:)
regarding the question in general, i find that wearing leather is becoming increasingly unacceptable in western societies. animal rights' movements have been making controversial headlines regarding the use of leather clothes and accessories, especially after the explosion of this idea of being Politically Correct. i remember some supermodel (Cindy?) erecting a billboard over at Times Square stating something like she'd rather go naked than wear a dead animal. then again, with her body, i don't think anyone would mind.;)
personally, i don't have anything against leather. if i did, i'd have to get rid of some of my favourite pieces. just make sure it goes with the occasion.:)

imo, leather-ware is indispensable in cold climate conditions. its provides the warmth of a down jacket, with less bulk, and less weight. a single layer of leather clothing is equivalent to multiple layers of cotton clothing. if you’re out and about the whole day, the weight off all that layered clothing gets plenty tiring, plenty fast.
good leather clothing is a good investment. take care of it, and it’ll take care of you.

leather is good to wear at nights - during the 'ber' months, maybe up to the end of January...
light leather jackets (lambskin) is best in the philippines. yung walang masyadong lining.
as for pants, depende sa cut - I like mine bootcut.

a bit off for me... considering the climate/weather here. but like pashmina, malakas ang dating pag suot na ng tao at
may binabagayan. Bong Revilla types are not included.

Actually, I think we have come up with a version that's not that warm. Fake leather nga lang. Parang yung cotton na synthetic na di ko malaman kung paano idescribe.
I think they're okay.. but sometimes they tend to smell terribly stinky :D

Oh my gosh I don't know what had gotten into me over the past few months...
I've acquired a fondness for leather :D .... leather stuff... what's the latest Shaq commercial? I was so busy checking out his leather coat to pay attention to what was being advertised....Jimmy Stafford of Train, he loves leather pants, bagay sa kanya....I saw a guy from school wearing them, may binabagayan talaga, I've seen women wear a pair as well, I think it looks so hip... the lead guitarist for Pat McGee was wearing a pair of leather pants with a matching leather hat....I've always thought that was cheesy but that man made it looked so .... nice :D Who could forget Bon Jove was it the Grammy's? It was some musical awards show...I never thought I would find myself liking that sort of get up but Bon Jovi really looked great on tv that night...
....I had to stop myself from buying a leather coat, a pair of boots and gloves last winter because if I do, I'm giving myself less incentive to loose weight. I could get more leather stuff when I've shed off the pounds, well that's a fresh incentive...(sure)..my aunt owns a nice suede above the knee skirt...ang cute talaga...
I love down leather couches, I couldn't get over my aunt's set, it's so comfortable...
I got myself a leather briefcase and back pack for next semester...ironically, those are the only leather things I own hehehehe
but I am really starting to get fond of them...

off-topic: So were my thoughts before but when I went to PI last December & we went to the province, it was so damn cold & luckily I took my jacket with me. Or maybe it was just so hot in Manila that I needed to adjust to a mountainous place (which is often less warm than in Manila). And to think that I live in a "cold country"! (about 12ºC in spring).
I only have black leather jackets.
