View Full Version : "If You Don't Have It, Don't Show It"

You're walking behind someone wearing a midriff top in a mall. Seems this person has the "K" to wear it: nice skin, curves at the right places. But when you overtake her, you find that her bilbil is the size of Canada. What's your reaction: "What gall!" or "I don't give a d@mn."

Do you believe that unless you "have it, then don't show it"? Do you think that fat people shouldn't wear body-huggers or that someone who has dead toenails shouldn't wear slinky sandals? Or do you believe that whatever one wants to wear is their own business, even if they look stupid in doing so?

Do you judge or do you even care? Speak your mind!

Ooohh...interesting!

I see a lot of really obese women over here who just insist on wearing really tight clothes that you can see the lard rolling up on waves as they walk.

Frankly, I find it amusing, but never would I say something really nasty about that because it's their body, they have the right to wear whatever they want to wear regardless on the weather, and their body structure.

I mean, if they asked for advice, sure I'd be glad to give it to them. But if not, I'm better off minding my own business and leave them alone to discover why the hell people are looking and laughing at them.

i usually refrain from making catty statements or even forming uncharitable thoughts about others...but dead toenails??? that would offend my aesthetic sensibilities...

i'd probably wince but i wouldn't say anything.

(my other pet peeves: fuschia spandex and animal prints) :)

Some heavyset women can actually get away with wearing tight clothes--but we're talking about rarities here. More often than not, when I see overweight or obese women wear clothes that they shouldn't be wearing, I just give myself a mental shake in the head na lang. It's their right to wear those clothes if they want to, after all, but I wish they'd realise how ridiculous they look trying to pretend that they can actually get away with those outfits. Heavy women can (and do!) still look attractive by wearing clothes that emphasize strong points like a pretty face or maybe nice shoulders, but definitely not by way of wearing spandex or tight clothes.

I think everybody has the right to wear what they want. Generally speaking here's my belief "If you have the guts, wear it." Just don't mind them, besides it is not you who looks stupid. Here's my thought, I think we should give them the credits instead of bashing them. Because eventhough their "bilbil" looks like a "salbabida" they still manage to show it on public. And it takes a lot of guts to do such things. Fat people also needs to feel sexy, mataba na nga sila magsusuot pa sila ng pang fatties. Eh di lalo lang silang nagmukhang mataba. I also believe that confidence makes you sexy in one way or another, and everbody has the right to feel sexy. It's just how you handle it and how you bring it, no matter what clothes you wear.

I certainly think that being sexy is a state of mind. I find a lot of 'big' women attractive who know what looks good on them.

My take on this is that what people wear is their own business. I have to admit, though, that I sometimes get inwardly judgmental. It's hard not to when you see a 60-year old wearing a tube with her cleavage exposed for everyone to ogle at.

If I were asked, my advice would be to enhance the good features one has and downplay what he/she lacks. It's just a matter of knowing how to put less focus on that bulging bilbil or those dead toenails. I've seen plump girls get away with tight clothing. It's a matter of knowing what style fits your body-shape, what color suits you, and of course, how you carry yourself.

Do you think Filipinos have a tendency to be judgmental? I heard that in the States, fat people can wear midriffs and no one would care, whereas here, we snicker inwardly?

Ada, yes, it's cultural. Filipinos are pretty prejudicial and judgemental. I have no idea how or why we're like that, but we are.

I think you should wear what you wanna wear and it only matters what you think and hhow you feel. If big women weren't allowed or aren't accepted to wear clothes that society thinks they shouldn't wear...then clothing companies shouldn't make it in their size.

I think that a lot of people are judgemental on this...really sad..cuz nobody's perfect anyway.

Here's my take on this, whether you have it or not, If you show it do you get pissed off when guys look at it? If you get pissed off, then you don't have the right to flaunt it, right? Right...

its crazy when people who dont have the "k" to wear certain things, still wear them. but really...SO WHAT? if thats what they wanna wear, let them, they're not doing anything wrong to anyone. honestly, i talK more about those people who judge others by what they wear, than people who dress weird.

Reminds me of the movie Shallow Hal, when fat Gwyneth was wearing itsy bitsy shorts and and sporting a bare midriff. I thought that was a bit too much. If I saw someone as big as her in a beach wearing that IRL, I'd honestly gawk.

no, its not that pinoys are being judgemental, almost everyone is. yung nga lang we have to be civil about it, laugh when the herd is gone.

everynow and then.... OK OK, everytime we go to clubs or even malls we see whales in bikinis. that's how i see it.

imagine watermelon with thongs around? no, i dont tell them to go back home & change, its not my business.

but everytime my firends & i talk, that's one of our favorites. maybe oneday we'll roam the malls & bars & start being "true".

some ladies look good on it, no flabs, smooth silky skin. yung iba eh puro taba (celulloid?) at sige pa rin sa pagsuot ng baby tee. that's what you call courage, buy those brand of shirt cause it can withstand tremendous stretching.

bottom line, if you dont want to be laughed at, dress your age. or if you dont mind people laughing at your back (its a sick sad world after all, worse a sarcastic grin as they pass by) go ahead.

i don't really care. if an individual doesn't care that what he's wearing looks hideous on him, why should i make a big fuss out of it? we all think differently. what may be unthinkable for some when it comes to dressing up may be perfectly acceptable for another. i have enough problems thinking about what i'm going to wear to waste my time taking on the role of a know-it-all-fashion police.

I'm a big girl but honestly, naiirita din ako when I see others like me who try hard to look sexy in revealing or tight-fitting clothes. Hindi kasi porke uso, pwede na eh.

As much as I could, I try to buy clothes that would enhance the way I look, but well, it's hard. You either have to have the right (big) body type or the money to buy expensive nice-looking plus-size clothes.

So I hope for us who are a little bit irked by big women in not-so-nice-looking clothes, try to be a little bit more considerate and forgiving and accepting of those like who weren't blessed with nice bodies and nicer clothes or vice versa...

hehe.. me and my friends once saw a chubby grandma (siguro in her 70s na) wearing a bikini top and a sarong with slits so high, her wrinkly butt shows whenever she moves..

that wouldnt have bother us much if she were at the beach.. kaso sa Mcdo North ave sya nun e so medyo.. ok, hindi lang medyo.. masagwa talaga tingnan..

ayan.. ang sobrang bad ko.. try man namin sya deadma-hin, ang hirap kasi nakaka-distract talaga sya coz she moves around alot.. so we cant help but snicker every now and then..

so i guess, where you wear those tight and revealing clothes is a factor din.. then again, kung trip nga nila manamit ng ganun e, ala na siguro tayong k dun..

Dito sa Europe, yung matatanda (as in MATATANDA), they can still get away with dyeing their hair orange or wearing outlandish clothes while shopping and NOBODY CARES. Big women can wear skimpy clothes, and yes, thay may look ridiculous on it but NOBODY CARES. Eh sa Pinas, we'd even point it out and laugh sometimes. It's a cultural thing, really.

I admire the people who could pull those off. Confidence is the key, I think.

Personally, I tend to be more conscious. It's normal for people to criticize others. So oo nga, if may ipapakita ka, siguraduhin mo it's nice to look at.

I think sa pagdadala lang yon minsan. And yeah, pakialam ba nila, diba?
