I wouldn't say "anti". I think it's more on the fact that we want to discover more things, characteristics, traits, etc that we can call distinctly Filipino.

From back home? Those in the U.S.? Is this due to Claire Daines? Boy, I missed a lot, huh?
One thing I like about Western Culture--today's American Culture--well, which part of the States? California culture is nothing like the South where Jim Crow probably still lurks. I like the idea of sharing what I know of Filipino Culture to other ethnicities while, at the same time, I pick up a culture or two from them. Kind'a think of it, I know little about other ethnics, only their food. I love Pat's shrimp creole, while she still nags me for my adobo recipe :D :D :D

I think "anti-western" is too strong a word. We cannot say that Filipinos are anti-Western because let's admit that there are many good things that have come from the west. I guess it's more that we're trying to figure ourselves out as Filipinos. Not everything that works for the West works for us. But to reject the West is too drastic a measure - we cannot go back to the pre-19th century where Japan just totally cut itself off from all foreigners - it's economic suicide.

hmmm..not sure about a specific example, but i've noticed especially here in PinoyExchange that some are soo vocal when it comes to "almost" cussing how western culture has been influencing filipinos

I guess i have to agree with Chiqui, we're now in a stage of exploring our own identity that we can truely call our own.

what's wrong? just because they've basked in the American sun and hung out with the white kids, when they go back to the PI, they act like they're the sh*t...feel like EVERYONE should kiss their kisses just because they speak tagalog with a funny twang and they've eaten bigger hamburgers at McDonalds.
i'm in customer service and we service all-american clients. some would really get pissed and challenge your intellect just because you don't sound "american" enough.. WTF?? talk about superiority complex.. i bet i spell and conjugate verbs better than those white farts do.. pardon me for sounding so hostile.. it just gets really insulting sometimes.

There is nothing wrong with Western culture per se. What's wrong is how it has influenced people from other cultures such as ours to the point of losing our own cuture and identity.
