I'M ASKING FOR YOUR OPINIONS. Opinions lang po.
Seeing the board exams results, time na ba para palitan ang big 3? If yes, ano ipapalit mo?
Let's try to have some constructive discussion here, ok?

my opinion is that this thread should be closed kasi hindi lang board exams ang factor in order for a university to be included in the so called big 3.. kung siguro ang tanong naging -- sino top 3 in terms of board exam performance.. ayun, tanungin natin PRC, may concrete data sila.

*okay*
Kaya ganon ang marketing ng review centers regarding UP, Ateneo and DLSU kasi sa tingin nila, diyan maraming gustong pumasok. Which is true, right? :D

(mayabang, ugaling skwater, mayaman pero b0bo, etc.) i love UST as it is, hindi mahangin kumpara sa ibang top schools. i believe that the easy entrance exam is what keeps Thomasians humble.

*okay*
OffT. In all honesty, hindi mahirap ang UPCAT.
For all we know, sa UPG na 2.10, ilang libo kayong magkaka-tie (for example lang yan ah). Kung lebel lang ng mga tanong ang pag-uusapan sa UPCAT, an averagely-performing high school student can answer the test, given all the leniency in the world. :)
OffT ulit.

Do our high school seniors value social status more rather than passing the board exams? In my high school batch everyone went into serious preparation for the the UPCAT, ACET and DLSUCET because everyone was dead set on getting into these schools. No one wanted to go to any other school...kakahiya daw.

Sige, I have to concede kung makapagproduce kayo ng at least 80% passing rate sa ChE.
But until then, UST has some room for improvement, especially in engineering.

With all due respect, I used to work with a Thomasian that fits the qualities in bold.
Then again, all schools have their share of bad apples :D

True to some [usually elitists]. Untrue to many.

In our high school, top graduates target the big 4 -- UP/ADMU/DLSU/UST but we never say nakakahiya pag sa ibang school napunta. That's elitism extraordinaire!

Actually, tama ka. Elitista. Target talaga nila, mga professional courses ng UP/Ateneo/DLSU, unless Med, where UST comes in close after the three. And yeah, medyo pangit sa school records pag di nakapasa students nila sa isa, dalawa o lahat sa tatlo. That's not elitism, IMHO. That's "setting the standard for quality students".
Pyramid. Kasi onti lang sila. Compared sa rest of the schools all over the Philippine Islands. I hate to use the term "masa", pero I think "majority" is the better and more appropriate term. For the majority, that's what you call "reality". *okay*

The Big-3 refers to UP, Ateneo and De La Salle. They are commonly referred to such because they are the three most prestigious and most famous universities in the entire country.
The PRC Ranking has very little to do with the conception of the term, Big-3. PRC rates graduates based on board exams. However, several courses at the Big3 do not require board exams. Even then, their graduates are the most preferred grads by most top, if not all, high paying companies.
The so-called Big 3 are the favorite destinations of choice by the high school elite. They also have very high enrollment yield rates. And, needless to say that they are the most selective universities in the entire country.
If you're very smart, can afford and has an offer from any of these three schools, i'd say pack your things and go! You can't be wrong with any of these schools.

12 reminders to UPCAT takers
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 07:50:00 07/28/2008
On Aug. 2-3, around 70,000 students will take the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT).
Of the country’s premier universities that include Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University, the UP is reputedly the most difficult to get into because of the large number of students taking the UPCAT.

anyway to those people who always criticize our beloved almamater...kesyo madali ang entrance exams o kaya naman nag aadmit daw tayo ng kunsino2x... para nadaw palengke.
All i can say is...WE THOMASIANS DON'T ACCEPT EXCELLENT STUDENTS......WE MAKE THEM.
and take note sa mga alumni nito....we don;t value power or we don't even aspire to be famous ....ang mahalaga walang nababalitang tomasino na nalalagay sa issue o kakaibang gulo
Thomasian Upbringing.....BALANSE.....ONLY THE BEST... o yan maging proud ***

^I'm not bitter. What I was actually agreeing with butch2koy's generalizations is his last statement: that one cant go wrong with the big 3. i dont see anything wrong with that. same goes with UST. you cant go wrong with the thomasian kind of upbringing. of course, as$holes will always be there wherever you go [wala tayo magagawa, nakakalusot sila eh] -- be it UP, ADMU, DLSU and UST. =)
