Initially, ang Ateneo and La Salle eh meron na sa product range (Shirts, Polo shirts, Jackets, hoodies, Caps) ng adidas and now available sa mga adishops.
Ikaw, bilang taga-uste, gusto mo bang meron din kayo?

I would definitely love to get one.
Make sure it has quality and I don't care about the price.
The tafetta cloth isn't cutting it. It looks hideous and cheap like the others.
If you can produce a track jacket quality and look then count me in.
Until then, produce one that looks wearable and decent.

I'd prefer BOTAK.
Any brand that has a decent design will do.
Most of the designs they have are either tacky or they look cheaply made.

The UST community has considerable purchasing power.
I don't understand why adidas is ignoring the Thomasian market and electing instead to be elitist by exclusively sponsoring Ateneo and DLSU.
To the adidas marketing department if you're reading this, please gather your thoughts and reconsider your actions. Is Goodie Custodio still the sports marketing head?

we can visit their site and have a petition or send out emails to request them to make UST shirts and jackets. what do you think?

Guys, hinay-hinay lang. Masyadong hot eh. No need to mention about being "elite" and "ignoring market". It just won't help.
With regards to sponsorships, better ask whos in-charge on your school. As far as I know, contract with other outfitter is still on going.
As for petition to adidas, that's a good idea.

Well when your brand aligns itself with DLSU and Ateneo, you're definitely projecting an elitist image or, as marketing communication people love to put it, your brand is trying to be "aspirational." And if you turn your back against a 35,000-strong student population, I think that certainly qualifies as ignoring the market.
Petitioning is a good idea but I wouldn't want UST to appear like it's groveling for the attention of adidas.
@speeka: Is Accel the official outfitter of all UST athletes?
Jandreks
Jul 8, 2008, 10:02 AM
Well, in my opinion, sino ba ang nag-iisip about "elitista"? And why be so affected if they want to project as waht you said "elitist image"?
Wala.
The question I posted is so simple: "GUSTO MO BA?"
I challenge you. Ask those 35,000 students to post here. I bet, this thread wont even reach 1,000 posts in 3 days!

it's not always the market for brands like adidas because they already have an established name and an established market base all over the world
sorry, but they can live without your 35k strong. you can offer them though. buti sila nagpapaoffer. ang nike hindi tumatanggap ng offers.

Anyway dati ko pa naiisip yan nung naglabas ang Adidas ng Ateneo shirts and jackets, at hindi sila naglabas for other schools. And ngayon meron na ang DLSU.
Basta ko i want a UST Adidas jacket. Magiging best seller yan ng Adidas.

If that brand is the Official outfitter them it is bounded by contracts. That brand can sue either the school or the other brand who will create merchandise.
Respeto nalang dun sa naunang may kontrata di ba? Kahit sabihin mo pang hindi naman ginaya ang design but still sila pa rin ang Official outfitter.

If adidas is thinking to dominate the UAAP schools then yes.
If the contract between adidas and UST worked out well then don't patronize UST-adidas merchandise.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Adidas sponsored the jackets worn by the UST Yellow Jackets back in the early/late 90's. Not sure.
Basta ang sigurado ako, branded ang kanilang jacket noon. Grabe. Ang ganda! At the back: SANTO TOMAS.
I'm looking for a jacket that has a SANTO TOMAS imprint at the back pero sad to say, puro UST ang nakikita ko sa likod, chaka pa.

Additional suggestion, omit the tiger face. Siguro the three stripes could be tiger scratch marks instead.

Opinion:
We have so many talented students from CFAD and Archi. Why not let them design our own 2008 jacket and sell them to the Thomasian community via the publicity by the Central Student Council? They can allocate a portion of the proceeds for charitable purposes... wouldn't that be better?
The "Adidas" brand sounds neat, yes. But I think if Thomasians would design their own jacket, it would look way better than the commercial Adidas design. Tayo ang gagawa eh... malamang gagandahan natin. Who knows kung sino ang magdedesign ng UST jacket natin sa Adidas (like the case of Universidad... their UST jackets suck!!
Sorry kung may ma o-offend, but the Ateneo and Lasalle jackets by Adidas do not appeal very much to me. Ang nagpapaganda lang is the Adidas logo. Try to picture this... alisin niyo yun Adidas logo... ano nalang siya? normal jakcet!
Plus, kahit sino pwede bumili nun sa malls... parang hindi na siya unique (even the non-atenistas and the non-lasallistas can buy those jackets).
Hindi na kasi ako estudyante eh... you guys might want to coordinate with the Central Student Council para mag oarganize ng fund raising by selling UST jackets. This can be an annual thing.
Of cousre we must make sure na magandang maganda yun design and the construction/quality is superb. Tipong it will be the envy of everyone... :D
Not only do we have jackets, makakatulong pa tayo. Not to mention na magiging mas mura pa ang jackets. :)

Just my thoughts...
If you saw someone wearing UST apparel (jacket, shirt, cap), there is a very big chance that the wearer is a Thomasian. Eh kung Ateneo/Lasalle apparel? Not all the time.
Ashlars
Jul 9, 2008, 11:43 AM
You raised several valid points Juntrix, especially regarding the fans who'd be wearing the apparel.
Another suggestion could be to coordinate with Team Manila. They make great designs and I read somewhere that the founders are UST alums so for sure, they'd be able to come up with something neat.

Pardon me, but I have to react to this post. From my understanding, are you questioning those students who are not enrolled in DLSU-M and AdMU, but do come from the sister schools of the two universities, in regards to their purchasing of these items? I believe that they are still called La Sallians and Ateneans, regardless of the campus that they are enrolled in.
If the plan does push through to retail Adidas (or whatever sports brand)-made UST apparel, would you also be critical of the students who will be purchasing these items who are enrolled in UST-Santa Rosa, Laguna and UST-General Santos and not in UST-Manila? Just asking.
Btw, Accell was born as a product of a splinter group of former Adidas-Philippines officers. Their head is a Thomasian, that is why UST was one of the first to be outfitted by the brand during its inception in 2002.
Regarding Adidas, the MBT was outfitted by the three stripes until the 2000 UAAP Season. The WBT had Adidas as its outfitter when they won the crown in 2006. The only UST varsity that has been consistently sponsored by Adidas is the football team. Both men and women's squads have been wearing the three stripes for nearly a decade already.

On your first question:
Since these Adidas items are commercially available, anyone can buy them. Who am I to question anyone who would like to purchase those jackets?
I am not questioning the identity of the students from the sister schools of AdMU and DLSU. Yes they are still Ateneans and LaSallians, but sorry... the Adidas jackets are not really marketed to them.
On your second question:
So as long as the future UST's are considered as branches and not sister schools (like Letran), then I think it's okay.
I just meant that having commercialized jackets has it's disadvantages, one of which I have mentioned in my previous post.

If this doesnt materialize,,,,,,so what.itchoki.if it does, oki pa din
On another note, its uniquely thomasian that we dont market our school and overtly put too much hype on things as these(jackets, apparels). Unlike other universities clamoring for attention, they seek to solicit more than what there reputation precedes them.
May mga nakita nga ako nakasuot ng ateneo jacket and i asked them if they're authentic alumnis and students,,,,,surprisingly they said no. So it just wears out the name - ATENEO coz anyone can buy em atenean and non atenean. Also knowing that ateneo has i believe less than 15k combined population in loyola,,,,,they know each other and by that they really do. so real ateneans feel trespassed if they see others not ateneans by blood wearing em.
And guess from what school wears em.........
If I may, UST with all its entirety and influence can sign an MOA with adidas to create, make, design jackets, apparel for EXCLUSIVE THOMASIANS ONLY sold inside our campus, sold to students with a charitable benefactor, if in adidas stores an alumni card or ID should be presented for pass as to avoid making the stuff vague, exclusivity should still be observed. heck it, we have 40k combined population not to mention our weight fr alumni and friends abroad.Lack of marketing insight for adidas.

Meron akong question - gusto mo ba ng (a) UST jacket or gusto mo ba ng (b) UST jacket na gawa ng Adidas or Nike?
Pag UST jacket, this is easier. Pwede yan na made by a known sportswear company (LGR, Kobee, AtletA, Botak). Designed in-house (within UST) by a UST student (regardless of course). Pwede pa yang pa-contest. Whoever wins gets x number of jackets.
Marketing - madali din yan. A jacket made for UST by UST. Whoever is the reseller gets x percent comission. Sold only by UST students. Multiply pa lang dami na nyang benta.
My only concern is if we want a UST jacket, do we need to get permission from UST first? I know for a fact that another sportswear company, Universidad, does not have any agreement with UST (or any other school). Pinapayagan lang silang magbenta sa campus. Do we need to pay the school to make a school jacket?
So ayan. Kelangan ba na UST jacket or UST jacket made by Nike/Adidas?
Do we want to wear the school or the brand?
clawed_out

^ that is one of the jackets that I can wear outside of the school. Too bad the size that I have is a little small so I gave it to a buddy.
The design is synonymous to the UST SDT's uniform a year ago (fontwise). It is simple and pleasing to the eyes. There isn't much going on (no tiger stripes, no tiger face, nothing dizzying).
