To everyone in this thread.

Since the two most malicious trolls here in UAAP PEX such as
1) Pundit
2) Ratboy aka DSB

have both been banned.

Let me remind you that GLOATING on who got banned in an INTERNET DISCUSSION FORUMS can actually get you banned.

I'm not kidding when I said this one, I've seen posters in American online sports forums get banned because they gloated on the "demise" of the trolls there.

Thank you and have a great day!

up tempo game na naman. sana walang masprain or any kind of injure for both teams.

From what i heard and what i saw in the papers this morning, Rico and James will suiting for the game later, well i guess they'll get minimal playing time like Jervy against UE. While Simon will be out for another week and Marko will be out for the rest of the season due to re-injuring his ACL.

On the brighter note coach Franz most likely made some adjustments on their game and hopefully Maui and the other rookies will step up their game later. I'm expecting another magnificent performance from JV Casio later.

In my opinion, Maui is a far better player than Hyram. Maui has stepped up in the past few games of the archers and Hyram has trouble handling the ball at times (like in today's game). For the archer rookies, Maui and LA are the better players IMHO. :)

Congrats to DLSU for a good game today. JV was simply unstoppable!

He used to actually score on his own during his HS and colleage years.

Pero sa PBA, mahirap talaga kapag wala kang explosive first step and quickness needed to maneuver past strong defenders.

kaya ayun..asa na lang sa mga screens and his quick release.

Para kayong nagtanong kung magaling si Michael Jordan. Basketball is a team game. Even MJ needed screens from his teammates.

The question "magaling ba talaga si ren ren??" is too subjective therefore cannot be answered by anyone here.

during his UAAP days, he was virtually unstoppable by guards, ateneo even had to use rich alvarez to defend him, and even that was not as successful as ateneo would have wanted. i'm not sure if he had a slashing or even middle game, but his 3pt shooting percentages were high enough,it could be relied upon anyways

Well the problem with Ren Ren is that he was converted into a pure outside shooter with his stint with the RP NT, with that I guess he forgot his old inside moves. While Cardona is really known to do his killer teardrop shot. he has better command of his penetration moves rather than his perimeter shots where Ren Ren dominates.

The Origins of Singing the Alma Mater Hymn with a Clenched Fist
by Greenarrows of GA.net. July 23, 2003.

When the Alma Mater was first sang in the mid-60's, DLSC (it was a college then before getting university status in 75) students sang it without any clenched fist. They just sang it though you could see a student or two raising their arms with a clenched fist.

Then the 1968 Mexico Olympics came about. In these Games, two African-American track and field athletes, who finished gold and bronze respectively, raised their hands with a clenched fist while the Star Spangled Banner was being played during the medal presentation. The athletes involved stated later that they did that as a sign of protest for the discrimination of African-Americans in the U.S. at the time. They were later stipped of their medals.

Taking a cue from this, LSGH students started singing the alma mater with their left hand raised and with a clenched fist when the 1969 season of the NCAA got underway. This was the first time that a clenched fist was raised during the singing of the alma mater for two reasons. First, in 1969, LSGH had a full student body for the first time and the students were very active in the student protest movements then. The protest movements were about issues raised against the Marcos government. Raising our left arm in the air with a clenched fist showed the solidarity the studentry of LSGH had with the student protest movement. Also, 1969 was a Presidential Election year which elevated the protest movement in an effort to stop a Marcos reelection. Obviously, the protest movement lost on this one.

The second reason is that season 1969 saw the first ever La Salle Greenies squad composed completely of LSGH students. The high school in Taft was completely phased out by then. And, as expected, LSGH fared poorly in the NCAA. But the LSGH students found pride in singing the Alma Mater after every game and raised their left hand with a clenched fist. To them, this was a sign of struggle, moral victory and pride. But that was the LSGH students and not the college students of DLSC.

Then came the second round game between La Salle and Ateneo. At that time, when La Salle and Ateneo played each other, no other games were scheduled by the NCAA. That was because a lot of students from both La Salle and Ateneo would troop to the Loyola Center (aka Blue Eagle Gym) to watch the premiere rivalry in college hoops. In 1969 Ateneo (who eventually won the championship) was a power packed team with names like Francis Arnaiz, Joy Cleofas, Marte Samson, Chito Afable, Ricky Palou and others. In today’s scenario, they would be like the star studded 1993 UST team which swept the UAAP. The Ateneans were almost unbeatable.

As usual, the Greenies (LSGH team) lost to the Ateneo high school squad. The LSGH students then sang the alma mater with their left arms up and a clenched fist. Afterwhich the Seniors game was played. At that time DLSC was in the middle of the team standings and had no chance whatsoever to make it to the Championship. BUT, LIGHTNING STRUCK. Composed of relatively no names, the DLSC Green Archers BEAT the Ateneo team which was hoping to sweep both rounds of the NCAA. It was like today’s NU or UP beating the PBA Talk n Text team! After the game, having beaten the top team, the LSGH students who watched the game raised their left arms in the air with a clenched fist to sing the alma mater. And it was at this time, that the college students of DLSC did the same thing en masse. Seeing it for the first time, it was an awesome sight to see. It was massive show of force and pride. Since then, all DLSC games saw their students singing the alma mater with their left hands in the air with a clenched fist.

In the years that followed, specially since DLSC became DLSU (1975) to the time we joined the UAAP for the first time (1986), the singing of the alma mater has been a source of pride for La Sallians. So much so that all the schools in the UAAP and the NCAA have emulated not only the singing of their alma mater but also the raising of their hands with a clenched fist. Over the years, the raising of our clenched fist has also evolved. The original stance was to stand straight, raise your left arm high and steady and clench your left hand into a fist. Since then, due to the decline of the student protest movement with the ousting of the Marcos regime in 1986, the stance has "evolved". Most people now raise their right hand instead of their left. This is because most people are right handed. Also, many sing the alma mater with their arms flexing to the beat of the alma mater in contrast to the original stance with the left arm held straight and kept straight until the final line of “HAIL, HAIL, HAIL” when the left arm was flexed three times.

Yes, the protest movement of the late 60s and 70s were one of the basis for using our left arm. We wanted to show that La Salle students stood hand in hand with our brothers and sisters in other schools in demanding reforms in such a troubled time in our history. But, to correct frieda's impression, it was NOT purely a “communist” idea. For the student protest movement then enveloped both the left (Kabataang Makabaya, Samahan ng Demokratikong Pilipino, NUSP and others) and the moderates (like the Catholic Student Catholic Action (SCA), Solidarity, etc.). We continued using our left arm even during the days of martial law. The authorities thought we were just singing our alma mater. They did not realize it was also our sign of protest against the martial law regime.

Me, I sing the alma mater the traditional way – standing straight, left arm raised steady in the air and my left hand clenched to form a fist. That was the original way. And that’s the way I will always do it. Especially after every La Salle-Ateneo game to honor our 1969 team which brought down the blue Goliath.

may napansin lang ako. i was watching That 70's Show where they went to Canada to smuggle some beer. Unfortunately, Fez forgot where he put his Green Card. To cut the story short, the boys were sucking up to the Canadian police and sang the Canada's national anthem. Now, since I graduated from AHS, familiar yung tono nung National anthem ng Canada then I realized that it sounded like Ateneo's Alma Mater Song.

haha wala lang :)

trinoma. ang laki ng adidas dun.

hehe greenies. parang babies.

may napansin lang ako. i was watching That 70's Show where they went to Canada to smuggle some beer.

They indeed pattern their alma mater song from the 'Oh Canada' hymn before it was declared Canada's official national anthem.

The hymn "O Canada" has been there already even before Ateneo created theirs. Although Canada only made it their official national anthem several years after Ateneo patterned it to theirs.

Here's Canada's National Anthem History:

"O Canada" was proclaimed Canada's national anthem on July 1, 1980, 100 years after it was first sung on June 24, 1880. The music was composed by Calixa Lavallée, a well-known composer; French lyrics to accompany the music were written by Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier. The song gained steadily in popularity. Many English versions have appeared over the years. The version on which the official English lyrics are based was written in 1908 by Mr. Justice Robert Stanley Weir. The official English version includes changes recommended in 1968 by a Special Joint Committee of the Senate and House of Commons. The French lyrics remain unaltered.

As for Ateneo, they adopted the Song for Mary as their Alma Mater hymn in the 1950s.

ANIMO LA SALLE!
Keep the Faith.

I heard Franz won't be present on Saturday since he's coaching on the Phil Youth Team. You can't discount the toughness and ability of FEU basing on how we faced them last round. I hope the Asst. I thought this Saturday will be his last game to coach for the elimination round? What I read in the newspapers is that he'll be out for their last 3 games (vs AdU, UST and ADMU). Nag-iba ba schedule niya?

Whether Coach Franz will be there or not, the Archers need to start strong and end strong because FEU is not an easy team to catch up with. I hope they won't have the kind of lackluster performance in the 1st half against NU. FEU is riding high on their momentum especially after that nail-biter game against UST. The Archers on the other hand is slowly but surely heading its way to the Final 4 (hopefully in the 1st or 2nd spot). This game will be crucial for both teams. Ah basta, kayang-kaya yan ng Archers! ANIMO!

Bader should focus more on defense rather than taking those outside shots. Huwag na sana niyang pilitin yung shots niya kasi di talaga siya consistent. Defense na lang, mas effective pa yun for the team.

I hope Jvee will have some good rest before their game against UST. Malapit kami sa bench ng La Salle at halatang-halata na pagod siya at parang may sakit nga pero tignan mo yung laro niya..ang galing pa rin! Hanep, wala akong masabi kay Jvee. IDOL!

despite what we saw from coach jack santiago in his first 2 games, i still believe he will be able to deliver and keep his composure during the game against ateneo. its not also just the coach that is the gauge of a team's chances. i feel that dlsu's players can deliver despite not having franz in the lineup. casio, rico, and james should bring their "a" game and lead the rest of the team against the number 1 team in the league and more importantly, solidify its position for that much needed twice to beat slot. the archers just need to play smart and execute that vaunted full court press to perfection throughout the game. dlsu's guards imo are much better than ateneo's and this could be the difference going into saturday's game. good luck la salle.

This is what we call, in DOTA (or any multiplayer game) a "Leaver". One who leaves the game when the game has already been decided.

There is a saying that goes "The captain would be the last man off a sinking ship".

Well this captain has left way before any other, leaving his wards to fend off for themselves. Sure, he has been replaced by his brother but this move of his certainly has made a negative impact to his team.

Kawawa naman yung mga bata. Sana hindi na lang siya nag coach nung team kung may mas importante siyang obligasyon.

I remember Coach Franz saying that he accepted the 2nd coaching job because of national pride. Where is your pride now, coach?

what did the philippines do at the u-18 tournament:

- beat c. taipei
- beat uae
- beat iran (the host)
- lost to lebanon on a last-second 3 (which was by the way from a call against phi which some tournament officials admitted to be wrong)
- stayed close enough vs other opponents
- entered the quarterfinals

sinking ship? we were expecting to be trashed by our opponents right from the get go and where are we? playing for a decent 5th place in the tourney. tell that to the coach of some team who withheld their players for self-interest rather than the national kind and for sending junk for an assistant coach.

my bad. sunk ship na pala. for the record, franz pumaren left when he knew that they will "ONLY" be playing for 5th place. he should have stuck till the end.

when the usa basketball team was eliminated a few years back, their coach didnt leave diba? si pumaren, leaver siya kasi.... may iba pang "mas importante" siyang kelangan gawin.

kawawa talaga mga bata na iniwan niya dun.

BOTTOMLINE: if franz truly prioritized coaching in the uaap, eh di sana di na niya tinanggap yung trabaho. there are a lot of good coaches who would have no excuse to leave... like DEREK PUMAREN.

Wow! Perfect!

Norbert Torres, Kyle Pascual, Papot Paredes, Gabriel Banal, Tata Marata, Joel Tolentino. Hindi na dapat ipagtaka kung bigla silang sumulpot sa teritoryo ng mga buwayang Lasalista. Magaling!

Abangan ang susunod na kabanata.

I think Norbert Torres will play for DLSU in 2010. 2 years residency...

He is a 6'5 forward he also played in the PBL he averaged:
14.5 ppg
7.0 rpg
2.5 apg
2.0 bpg

Tata Marata is the juniors MVP if not mistaken... Also played in the PBL
7.8 ppg

Gabriel Banal
5.7 ppg

I think these three players will go to DLSU. Their addition to DLSU will greatly strengthen them team specially Torres.

DLSU wants it the long way, okay lang. They probably need practice in the play offs para mas prepared to beat a most worthy opponent in UE. JUST LIKE LAST YEAR. From there okay na whoever wins. Wag lang mag finals ang sister schools ng Montinola, Inc.
