Buhayin ang topic na 'to! =)

So girls (and guys)..what's your latest kikay obsession? Mine's BENEFIT creaseless cream eyeshadow...got 3 pots last Xmas from my cousin. The shades I have are Scrapin' the Rail (silver-taupe), My Date's My Brother (baby blue) and Speed Bump (smokey gray-lavender). They're long lasting - great for someone who has oily lids (like moi!). But of course, MAC is still my favorite when it comes to eyeshadows - they still offer the widest range of colors to choose from.

It's gotta be Lip Smackers for me!

I love their colors and flavors. At the moment, I have the chocolate brown, glittery blue, red and silver stuff. I also have this thing for Dr.Pepper and that's my fave Lip Smacker flavor of all time!

I'm also obsessed (?!) with blue nailpolish--either metallic or glittery will do.

nothing extremely new...since it's winter up here, i just need a lot of moisturizing..i recently just discovered creme dela mer. it's the best moisturizer out there..but of course, it's hella expensive. winter beauty routine: moisturizer, lip balm(kiehl's lip balm #1!! PePs is a recent convert as well :girl: ) and....that's about it :)

hello! went major shopping yesterday ..hehehe i went to 3 of my favorite cosmetics shops/boutiques-Kiehl's, Sephora and MAC. here are the stuff i bought:

Kiehl's:
Lip Balm #1- simple the best..the winter has taken it's toll on my lips and this lip balm has gotta be the most effective. even Kevyn Aucoin loves it :D
French Rosewater Toner-this is one cool product...it's rosewater made of french roses...may mga petals petals pang nag flo-float...super aliw and super refreshing..though it will burn a hole on your wallet...worth it talaga;)

Sephora-
Arruba in a Tuba (benefit)-i'm putla queen over here and i just needed a LOT of color...it's cute and so far, no yucky orange shade.

MAC
studio finish satin liquid foundation(NC35)- my skin is just terribly dry (i've only been using moisturizer with no powder over it since i came back from manila 2 weeks ago) and i felt like i needed some form of foundation to just make my face polished(even out the color, too :) ).. so finally, i decided to get liquid foundation after all these years. i've always had a 'fear' of liquid foundation because i'm scared that it would look too 'kabuki-ish'...but upon further examination and research...it's actually the best make-up for winter and if you pick the right product..the liquid foundation just becomes a 'transluscent' layer..really cool... My 'suki' at MAC SoHo helped me pick the best one for me and i also wanted a matte finish...so here it is..it's really great..i think i'm switching over to liquid from now on

lola PePs-hehe really going under the knife? good luck! pero ang galing nga ni Dr Lucero....i'm truly impressed with our friend's new nose ;) :p

Hi trinity! Since you love M.A.C., help me out naman. I want a new shade of lipstick from MAC..I have Cosmo and Taupe already and I want a pinkish brown shade this time. I also have the lipglass in Explicit but am tired of it already. Any suggestions? Geesh I hope MAC products aren't that pricey here in Pinas!

whoa, creme de la mer! i understand it costs $300 or something for an itty-bitty jar. and that there's this ritual you have to master to put it on your face, na dapat talagagang dry face mo otherwise hindi maa-absorb yung moisturizer, and that you have to pat it to avoid overusing it! i also found out recently they have baume de la mer, eye balm. costs $95 for a tiny jar, too. must be really worth it!

hey, i like MAC's Twig, too, it looked really good on me, not too nude, not too pink.

i don't have anything "new" to rave about so far. what i'm obsessed with now is reading allure magazine! sobra, i go through every mag in booksstands/booksale to get a copy, kahit nga mga 2ndhand lang. oh well.

Feb 11, 2001, 03:54 PM
hmm Bobbi Brown Cosmetics? i personally have not used any of her products....it's steep and they're MAC copycats..there's always some silent war between the MAC and Bobbi Brown counters....eh i'm a loyal MAC user..sorry nalang sila :p but my friend uses some products, they seem all right but i can get the same things and even more from other cosmetic brands.

and that's my 2 cents worth ;)

Hi girls :p

i keep hearing of xenadrine , and was planning on giving it a try , but then you mention pimples the size of pennies ... iiiikkk !! not sure it's worth it then ! ;) though i really wanna lose some weight . i tried bangkok pills , but they made me so nauseous all the time ! and working out has never been any of my passions . do you girls suggest xenadrine as being effective , aside from its pimply backstab ?

PePs, yup nice talaga ang Stila Kitten eyeshadow. My cousin gave it to me as pasalubong and i'm really loving it :)

Girls, I'm currently looking for brown eyeshadows for a basic, everyday look. Preferably from MAC/Stila. Any suggestions? What about shadows for 'gmik'? I'm thinkin silver and blue shades? Help ha! i'm kinda clueless when it comes to eyeshadows eh.. thanks!!:)

tr|n|ty
Mar 6, 2001, 01:50 AM
well i have to agree with what PePs has said. i'm actually very tamad with my make up routine nowadays..i basically just moisturize my skin, add lip balm and curl my eyelashes ..the look is classic and very clean. for gimiks, i usually wear white eyeliner if i'm tamad and just put pinched cheeks and lipglass...that's it. for more creative nights...i try to copy some looks from the 2 books of Kevyn Aucoin that i have...it's not that hard to copy and you get ideas pa.

for BYTE ME - i don't know where to post my response but i hope you get this. Re: Clarins or Clinique. Well, i've tried almost all the products in the market. For facial care - go for Clarins - it's not harsh and it's really mild and effective.
For the natural look ng make-up go with Clinique. they have a lot of new products na OK! let me know what you decide on. are you limitd to these two? by the way, what type of skin do you have

just would like to take your opinions about clinique and clarins. Which one works better for you? (in line of cleansers) Are they both hypoallergenic? I know clinique is. But is it the same with clarins?

Which one is more expensive? I'm planning to buy kse eh pero Im not sure which one's more effective talaga. As in nakikita yung effect.

In line of make-ups (powders, lipsticks, etc.) w/c of the two makes you look better and natural?

Please include in your entry the make-ups/cleansers that works best on you. And of course, the ones that's really effective. (wheather it's from clinique or clarins)

Atchaka kung meron din kayong negative words about them, pakilagay narin dito para naman di na mangyari ulit yun sa iba. thanks!

**venezia: thanks for your response. :) i really appreciate it. In your response, you've said that clarin's effective. Yung clinique ba, hindi? Actually, hindi naman ako limited sa dalawa kaso I've heard kse na models (some of them) abroad use clarins. Kaya curious ako sa clarins. :) Uy, paki-include din yng mga products ng clarins na ginamit mo. :) [oily skin ka ba? i am. :)]Eversince kse, I never used any products other than clinique kse super sensitive skin ko. :( Anyway, if you could still give me other options, pls. let me know by posting it here nalang. thanks talaga! Pero be sure naman na mabibili yun sa pilipinas ah. hehehe...or better yet, sa shangri-la's rustans tower kse dun lang naman ako naglilibot when it comes to these kinds of things. wow...medyo makulet ka noh? :p hehehehehe loko lang

just would like to take your opinions about clinique and clarins. Which one works better for you? (in line of cleansers) Are they both hypoallergenic? I know clinique is. But is it the same with clarins?

cleansers? i was a loyal clinique 3 step person. I think it's all right if you want to be very simple about your whole cleansing routine. All the women in my family are using the clinique 3 step..from my grandmother to my younger cousins. as for clarins, i have yet to use any of their products.

Which one is more expensive? I'm planning to buy kse eh pero Im not sure which one's more effective talaga. As in nakikita yung effect.

i believe clarins is a bit more expensive than clinique. I heard that clarins facial products are very effective. but as i said, i've never used any of their products.

In line of make-ups (powders, lipsticks, etc.) w/c of the two makes you look better and natural?

clinique has wider variety when it comes to cosmetics. if you just want simple products, clinique would be appropriate. they're not very trendy and innovative but with people just starting out, i think clinique is good brand to start with.

Please include in your entry the make-ups/cleansers that works best on you. And of course, the ones that's really effective. (wheather it's from clinique or clarins)

i personally use Kiehl's products and i think they're available in MIX greenbelt. all their products are really great and worth every cent. another good brand is cetaphil. Neutragena is overrated and overpriced for drugstore level products.

Atchaka kung meron din kayong negative words about them, pakilagay narin dito para naman di na mangyari ulit yun sa iba.

well..i just think you shouldn't be limited to these two brands. they're very hmm ..how do i say this nicely?...bland and boring when it comes to colors and products. and limiting urself to just Rustan's Tower is rather too hard since most stores with more complete lines are found in Makati. another good brand to use is Body Shop. I'd rather use body shop cosmetics than Clinique because Body Shop seems to have more products available.

I used to do the Clinique 3-step thing too before...then I had a facial at Ling's in NY...it's supposedly where supermodels go for their facial...and the girl who was doing my face said that those brand names aren't too good...but i think she just wanted me to buy their stuff!!...anyways, I just do CETAPHIL now...so far, so good....cream cleanser then cetaphil :) simple...cool..

maxinegirl
Mar 15, 2001, 09:34 AM
mitzel, try the Body Shop, they have a whole range of concealers (stick, wand-type, pot...) :D

tr|n|ty
Mar 15, 2001, 12:31 PM
i don't use concealers on a regular basis but i think Body Shop's, Clinique's and MAC's are really good. My best friend in Manila uses Body Shop and i'm amazed with the results :D MAC's concealer has a more precise color scale which is essential in concealers. There's this notion that concealers should be lighter than your foundation..and this is a big NO-NO. try your best to match your skin tone with the concealer. Clinique's concealer, on the other hand, is very simple and they give away their concealers whenever they have those bonus packs when you buy something.

advice on putting on concealers: don't just brush it on ... make little dots on to the area you want to be concealed and use your fingers to blend.

Mitzel
Mar 16, 2001, 12:04 AM
Maxinegirl, Trinity..thanks! I did try Body Shop's stick a few years back but it looked hmmm...blotchy and didn't blend well? Did I do it wrong? Or is there a specific Body Shop concealer I should look for?

maxinegirl
Mar 16, 2001, 10:19 AM
mitzel, um...it could've been 1) the wrong shade or 2) you didn't blend well enough...

but don't take my word for it...you could go and try other products/brands. as they say, "different strokes for different folks!" :D

juve_grrrl10
Mar 16, 2001, 04:27 PM
I use the stick concealer from Body Shop, and yup, it does indeed does wonders. nung una nga nagduda ako sa ni-recommend na shade, ang alam ko rin nga dapat lighter, this one is nearly my skin tone, pero nang ginamit ko naman, ok siya :) I also read somewhere recently that when you apply makeup or anything near the eye area, it's best to use the ring finger, since it's the weakest and it won't pull the skin any more than needs be.

One more thing, I'm just perplexed why not many people here use concealers -- lalo na mga artista, atbp.! Sila itong parating nasa tv, tapos makikita mo ang lalaki ng eye bags nila, dark circles pa. Pati rin mga beauty pageant contestants, kakakita ko lang ng mga nanalo sa Bb. 'Pinas...lahat sila may under-eye circles. 'Labo lang!

The only brand I've found that's "hiyang" to my skin would be Clinique.

My fave is Almost Lipstick in Black Honey (too bad they don't have it here in the Philippines). Actually, I love their lipsticks 'cause my lips stay soft & its not cakey, although it doesnt last that long.

I stopped using face powder three years ago, I just use one of those oil control films. My skin feels more comfortable without powder or foudnation. I just use it on formal occassions, etc.

I took advantage of my trip to the states last month. I bought a lot of stuff..mostly products that can't be bought here. I hardly wear makeup (only when i'm out at night) but seeing all those products in Sephora, Neiman Marcus or Nordstrom's - i just couldn't resist. And you know what they say - everyone can use a LITTLE makeup

So anyway, on with the glam! - here are some of the stuff that I bought.

Kiehl's Non-detergent Facial Wash - perfect daw if you live in a country w/ humid weather. i've been using it for a week and so far so good :)

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer - i'm particularly disappointed in this one and i've only myself to blame! i've an oily skin type and i know i don't really need to wear moisturizer but the sales rep told me that everyone - regardless of skin type - needs moisturizer. Siempre nagpauto naman ako :) Ano ba talaga? do we need it or not? I didn't buy the oil-free moisturizer b/c my cousin told me it's harsh on the skin.

MAC lipsticks - Twig (tnx trinity), Lame

MAC lipglass - Prr (it's a pinkish-nude shade..very light..very pretty!), Nico, Lust

MAC lip lacquer - Varneesh (not as glossy as lipglass but just as pretty)

Stila lip polish in Sheen

(i know i know..i just have one set of lips...but what the heck!)

Stila e/s in viola (matte plum)and delaunay(works great as a base), MAC e/s in electra, hush and soba - I don't regret buying any one of these e/s..they're all beautiful shades

These are all i can share for now..
If you happen to own the same stuff, I would really appreciate it if you share ur raves or rants.

well i live in a temperate climate so i really need the moisturizer. I use kiehl's Ultra facial moisturizer and i happen to love it. It saved my skin from the havoc of winter. MAC's new lip lacquer is da bomb :D i love it! I haven't bought any new kikay stuff for the simple fact that spring clothes shopping has made a desert out of my bank account. hehehe...blame marc jacobs and chloe for that.

Apr 19, 2001, 02:59 PM
i like MAC's lip lacquer also. But, since it's getting nicer out, i opt for just chapstick or MAC's lipglass in
c-thru or prrr (and when the wind blows,my hair sticks to my lips--doesn't that suck? i hate that!).
I've also been using the clinique 3-step forever and also use the moisture surge--i need the hydration. does anyone have any suggestions for a cheaper moisturizer other than the moisture surge? that little thing is so expensive!! i tried neutrogena but that stuff is too heavy for me.
another question, for in-grown hair. i know loofah loofah. i've been loofah'ing forever!! is there another lotion i can use? i currently use jergen's smoothing lotion since it has alpha hyrdoxy. is there anything else?
come on! i'm desperate! i'm going to cancun, puerto rico, and dominican republic in the summer! i can't look a mess! well, it doesn't really look bad but i know it's there.
i figure, your skin is like your teeth--floss, brush, and use mouthwash daily. so for your skin--wash, exfoliate, and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. you only get one shot.

tr|n|ty
Apr 19, 2001, 03:27 PM
m'saia-a couple of my friends use Nivea moisturizer, they swear by it and that's most probably cheaper than Clinique. About your ingrown hair..hmm lemme research on that. have you tried a very grainy cleanser/scrub?

trinity: don't u just love lacquer? i really love the varneesh shade..i didn't try every ahade coz i was in a hurry when i bought mine..so lemme know what other colors are nice k? thanks!:)

m'sai: i've to agree w/ you - my only problem w/ lipglass is that it's way too sticky. For your moisturizer, have you tried Oil of Olay? I haven't tried it myself but I read in a mag (not sure if it's Vogue or Instyle's april issue) that a lot of celebrities use it. Dunno about the price though :)

i'm going to try nivea but isn't nivea greasy-like? i don't know from what i remember back in the day-it was like a pot of grease but maybe they changed it. maaan, i know what's going to happen, i'm going to end up sticking with this clinique moisture stuff. maybe i'll just have to find someone who works for them, now that's an idea. hook-up is my favorite word.
as for the grainy/cleanser scrub that you suggest i try, i just bought freeman's face/body scrub. i use their avocado mask and it's pretty good. i was going to buy the foot scrub and use it on my upper arms--the source of this misery, but i'll wait and see what happens with this one.
maybe i'll use NAD's on it, what do you think? yeah that's another product i'm obsessed over these days. damn to the infomercials!!

novalee:
giiiiiiirl, believe me i tried oil of olay but that does not hold it's moisture throughout the day. price wise? hmmm...let's just say i can buy 4 big containers of oil of olay for one of those little-*** clinique moisture surge. now you see why i'm trying to find something else. by the way, you do need to moisturize even if you have oily skin. you should buy products designed for your skin type. why not try products that are water based (like everything else) because it absorbs quickly in your skin and it won't clog your pores.

hmmm...are there are any rules for the type of eyeliner you should use? like, if medyo light ang eyeshadow bawal ba ang black? saka should you put eyeliner on both the top and bottom? saka about the white eyeliner thing, can you wear that alone? without eyeshadow I mean:D

tr|n|ty
Sep 20, 2001, 05:28 AM
Re: eyeshadow and eyeliner

there's really no set rule, it's really about what kind of definition and look you want. some people don't need eyeliner but others do, some prefer to put eyeliner on top and bottom, some put on either top or bottom. as i said, it's all upto you. if ever i do use eyeliner, i use it on top and the bottom especially when i want a smokey eye, i smudge it up. as for white eyeliner, i use it as it is (because i'm tamad most prolly). i think i've mentioned this tip a million-and-one times here on pex, you can use your white eyeliner to "open-up" your eyes by putting it in the corner of your eyelids...where the top and the bottom meets. it gives an illusion of being very wide-eyed. use your fingers to blend the eyeliner so it doesn't look like white-out on your eyelids.

Actually, may question na rin ganyan, um, I think title ng thread, ABOUT BENETINT here sa Travel and Lifestyle and Ms. Trinity answered it. As for me, I just had my Benetint this week, IMO, it's so overrated. It's too sheer and it would really emphasize your blemishes kasi dun magsesettle yung color. Better if flawless skin mo. Madali shang i-blend kung fully moisturized skin mo, pero if your skin's too dry, it would be a problem. It's similar to Lancome's Kiss of Life although, orig Benetint pero cheaper yung sa Lancome. But, gusto ko yung effect nya sa lips--pinkish red. Although, the color didn't last nga lang.

Anyone here who uses Pinch Your Cheeks? If yes, maganda ba?

Kikay obsessions and recommendations? :P hahah! my favorite girly-girl topic :) FYI - I was not paid for the product review and recomendation (wish I was!)

Make Up:

Nars "multiple" is a real good deal. South Beach is a good color - bronze-tan. I guess it would look good on both fair skin and dark colored women. But if you are fair, my guess your undertone would have to be orange or yellow or something .

Prescriptives Custom Blend foundation - at 3000 bucks, it is quite pricey, but satisfaction guaranteed. It doesnt give you that "i just came from the stage" foundation look. You can choose what type of coverage you want sheer, complete or somthing in between. THIS IS THE BEST. If you want an less expensive alternative, i find that L'oreal works good---the luminous type. (I forget the exact name)

Lipstick - Her Bench makes good lipstick...at least I can attest for the satin types. It glides on smootly and keeps your lips moist. Estee Lauder makes good lipstick too.

Eyeshadow - here ye' here ye for MAC! but I suggest you buy the "classic" colors from mac para sulit.

Blush - Bobbi Brown Powder Blush; Benefit BeneTINT (cant live without it!); The Body Shop tint works well too!

Mascara - Maybelline Waterproof Great Lash...reletively inexpensive and works really well...

Concealer - Revlon...ask for the yellow-tone concealer (best for the night owls)

Face Powder - for everyday use, the J&J works fine. But if you really want to splurge...T.Leclerc in Banane...TESTED na on dark and light skinned women :)

Lip balm - Chapstick works good.

Lotion - Bath and Body Works or Victoria's Secret...if you really want to smell luxurious! But, if you just want to moisturize well..I think the J&J Baby Lotion will do..as well as Vaseline. Oh yes...try niyo yung Jergens Body Shimmer (?) lotion...super gandah!!! (smells good too)

If you want stuff not available in Pinas, you may like to consider swapping or buying from makeupalley.com-this site is full of info about different things(if you wanna try a product but still on the fence, check out their productville for an honest to goodness review, though your results may vary) Oh I learned from there that the Creme deLa Mer is glorified Nivea cream,LoL.Anyways,if you want similar function, try LUSH Skin shangrila.Pricey din ang LUSH I know but not as expensive as LaMer. I'm a LUSH *****,Love all their bath products, lotion, some facial products, and oh the Skinny Dip Shower is chocolate banana cream shake in a bottle-addictive and so good for your body and soul minus the calories! I like this better than Philosophy Cinnamon buns too. If you like natural blush,NARS Orgasm is soo awesome too;)
