Most of us do not know what's HAUTE COUTURE, mainly because it's a French term and second it's not common in the Philippines. :)
Probably you know K9 couture, the store for small dogs, the one in Tiendesitas owned by the De Mesa's... :D
Check this interesting facts about HAUTE COUTURE: http://www.yehey.com/lifestyle/Default.aspx
If ever we have it here in the Philippines, what do you think will happen to this industry?

Philippine designers can NEVER make haute couture (except if a Filipino designer is invited to join Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture as a Correspondent Member or Foreign Member). Haute Couture done by French designers only.
In France, the term haute couture is protected by law and is defined by the Chambre de commerce et d'industrie de Paris based in Paris, France. Their rules state that only "those companies mentioned on the list drawn up each year by a commission domiciled at the Ministry for Industry are entitled to avail themselves" of the label haute couture. So it's illegal to label your design as Haute Couture if you're not a member.
As of the 2008 Spring/Summer Haute Couture Fashion Week, there are 10 Official Members and 4 Correspondent Members.

Haute couture is a fancy shmancy word for "patahi". Of course when it's done by the filthy rich it has to be referred to haute couture exclusively done by some big wig designer and not something as plebeian as "patahi" from the local mananahi.
Haute Couture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haute_couture)
Haute couture (French for "high sewing" or "high dressmaking"; pronounced [oːt kuˈtyʁ]) refers to the creation of exclusive custom-fitted fashions. It originally referred to Englishman Charles Frederick Worth's work, produced in Paris in the mid-nineteenth century. In modern France, haute couture is a "protected name" that can be used only by firms that meet certain well-defined standards. However, the term is also used loosely to describe all high-fashion custom-fitted clothing, whether it is produced in Paris or in other fashion capitals such as Milan, London, Rome, New York and Tokyo. Haute couture is made to order for a specific customer, and it is usually made from high-quality, expensive fabric and sewn with extreme attention to detail and finish, often using time-consuming, hand-executed techniques.

I agree with Correct - the term Haute Couture refers to the rotating French fashion houses that are appointed at a given point of time.

They're just called couture, or if you're strict about it, ready-to-wear.
Although I remember Versace used to present an HC show during the HC fashion week.

Pito Moreno's works, can they be considered HAUTE COUTURE?
No. Pito Moreno's works can NEVER be called Haute Couture. As what i've explained in my previos posts, a designer an only make Haute Couture designs if and only if:
- He/She is designated as the Chief Designer of an influential French fashion house (such as Dior, Chanel, Givenchy etc..) and that Fashion house is a member of Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture.
- He/She is French and is invited to become a member of Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture
- He/She is not French but is invited to become a member of Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture as a Correspondent Member or Foreign Member.
So basically, Pito Moreno or any other designers even though how good they are or how beautiful their designs are, can NEVER EVER call their creations Haute Couture unless they are the ones mentioned above. But they can still call their designs Couture coz Couture is different from Haute Couture.

By the way, she's Alek Wek, a Sudanese supermodel. I totally really love her! She's so beautiful and exotic and her legs are so gorgeous! She's one of my fave supermodels of all time. Anyway, suki na si Alek sa Haute Couture shows ng Christian Dior... almost every season present siya!

That's really true!!!
I just hope she won't retire yet.. Just five or even ten years more! But I doubt it... If she still walks the runway 10 years from now, that would be amazing! In the headlines: 41-year old supermodel Alek Wek still "brings it"!
But seriously, I wish Alek would still walk five years from now.. Black and Asian models don't look old even in their 30's unlike the Caucasian ones...
