View Full Version : We (ateneans) were walking around EDSA when a UPian suddenly shouted at us

It was this morning of Jan. 20 when the entire Philippines was rejoicing. We were walking back to our Headquaters in Corinthins after we have "voluntarily" donated food and drinks to hungry people in the Shrine when we coincidentally met students from UP-LB. There were many of them and we knew they were from UP because of their chants. "UP, iskolar ng bayan..." Since we only numbered around 200-300 compared to them, maybe they were around 500-700, we settled in occupying the left side of the road. Infact, we took only a small part of it, less tha half so that they could pass through since they were half running and walking. It appeared okay when all of a sudden, a UPian shouted at us while looking at me:"Akala niyo, biro lang 'to!" We were shocked but we ignored them. Not only that, while I turned my back and redirected my attention to my friends, a UPian came forward and pushed me. When I turned around, I could no longer see him but I was sure he was with them.
We felt so empty as to what was with these guys that made them said that. Shouldn't they be thankful that we gave food and drinks to their fellow UPians for free? I really do not get it, but up to know, I really do not know and could not understand who UPians act like that. I hope I am not generalizing. What's with that?:(

ditto. If something like that happens, it's not the school. It's usually the person. :)

I am also from UP Los Baņos and I can assure u that NOT ALL UP Los Baņos students act this way, and that only few (barely) do this kinds of acts for no reason at all...
This is not the trait or the ideals that my Alma mater have taught me, please don't generalize.
I am really very thankfull to all of those students who were there to show their sympathy to our country. =)
We helped to make it happen.....

you know what's clear in your story? nothing. a classic mis-understanding (which is the usual case in frat rumbles). good thing you didn't get anything more than a light shove.

mark-mark,
stop sounding like a wet toddler. even the the most evil person needs something to provoke him. what did you or anyone in your group do to provoke the shout and the shove?!?!? nothing you say? then it was a clear misunderstanding. go to sleep.
you claim to be socially aware and responsive. yet, here you are bleeding to death on a tiny pin-*****.

mark_mark,
son, didn't i tell you to go to sleep? during your mental peak a few hours ago, i was asking you what provoked the "attack". without asking, i already knew you had no idea. ergo, your confused state. so i said the wisest thing which was to tell you to sleep it off (figuratively). now here you are running dowstairs, wanting to go back to the old, tired subject of "which school is better?"

well said hardguy!
mark_mark, don't generalize. Not all UP students are like that. I'm an atenean but I have a high regard for UP people. Iskolar nga sila ng bayan, di ba?
As for the incident. Well, fine. We get the point that someone from UPLB shoved you. Mali siya, no doubt about that. Pero huwag mo namang i-generalize na lahat ng mga taga UP. Bakit, sa tingin mo ba walang mga ganoon sa school NATIN? Maglibot-libot ka at marami kang makikita masmasahol pa sa kanila!!!
Peace bro! Im not trying to start something here but we have to face the fact that there are rotten apples in every good bunch!

hard_guy00: ha...ha...who are you to tell me to go to sleep? u were asking me what provoked those upians to SHOUT AT US and SHOVE ME. that is basically my question! i repeat, that is basically my question!
scheme: ha...ha... please, as i have said i am not generalizing. try reading back my posts please.

It might help if you stop emphasizing that they were from UPLB. I'm sure you don't mean it, but consider how some people focus on that instead of your actual inquiry.
Why do people shove and do other distasteful things sometimes?
Because they're people? In a cramped environment like the EDSA Rally, maybe people just get cranky, crabby or generally irritable. No reason to take it personally. People can lose their temper for the strangest reasons.
One tip, though, is to allow the guy enough gracefulness to get out of the situation without two people regretting it instead of one (you know, don't start a fistfight or anything instead of leaving him open to come back and apologize if he wants to).

mark_mark,
i must say this: this post has no bearing. and there's no point in trying to make a big deal out of what happened (especially because it just arouses trouble with people who don't see it as a big deal). that guy's probably not bugging you anymore. so let's end this thing here...
