The NCAA Juniors MVP Plum will most likely be between Bringas, Agovida and Alas.

Any team who wants a super point guard should eye Gusi of San Sebastian. I feel he is going to be the best PG this NCAA Season 84 on almost all aspects. I hope he stays in San Sebastian. The Stags badly need a promising young backcourt leader.

how tall is Arvie Bringas? mga 6'3", right? :?:

kung 6'3" nga si Bringas, most probably he will have to adjust to the 3/4 spot when he makes it in college basketball. it will be quite interesting to see a team that can turn Bringas, a high school 4/5, into an effective 3/4 in college. ;)

More or less 6'4. He can transition to 3 in college but it may take time. I dont think its necessary to shift his game to 3 right after graduation. At 6'4 he could be an impact player in college in 4/5. He is not that tall and his wingspan is just like an average 6'4 but his strength is remarkable for a kid of his size. The last guy I saw who can outpower anyone in the post in the Jr Ranks is Marcelo. Bringas is on the same mold and maybe even stronger.

Well that's the thing with CSB right now, they wouldn't spend that much if they knew the team wasn't doing anything other than dwelling in the cellar and point-shaving to make a quick buck. :naughty:

But the wholistic approach in sports paid off at the end because the rest of the athletes pooled enough wins together to grab the over-all seniors crown. :up:

Don't worry about the Blazers basketball team, Coach Gee will be doing his best to whip them into fighting form for the coming tourney. It's best not to expect a lot but we should continue to support them. ;)

bro's,id just like top make comment regarding ALMOND VOSTROS. i think he'll be the next big star in SSC-R junior team this year..a guard with tremendous court smarts, outside shot, penetrating skills(deadly crossover) with all having to be in just a simple move.nothing fancy, just pure basic moves.no doubt that some regarded him as ryan buenafe's successor.tho just only at 5'10 guard ,id raise my bet for him against any point guard or off guard in the league.he's running for mvp in the nike summer league and will surely improve when given more exposure.just a rookie junior transferee from pccr..i just know he'll be the next best thing for SSC- R and high school basketball

Judging from how San Sebastian College-Recoletos Staglets played in the finals of the 2008 Nike Summer League, they can still dominate the coming National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball season.

The Staglets won in lopsided fashion outplaying fellow NCAA member La Salle-Greenhills, 94-79, Friday to win their second straight title in the NSL at the Philsports Arena.

San Sebastian thwarted a slow start with excellent pressure defense finishing the first quarter with a 22-13 lead after the Greenies scored the first four points en route to an early 8-5 lead.

"Medyo gigil lang yung mga bata noong umpisa pero after nila naka-adjust sa depensa, tuluy-tuloy na sila," said San Sebastian coach Raymond Valenzona.

"I told the boys we can't get our offense going until we establish our defense," added Valenzona.

Almond Vosotros finished with 14 points to cap off his tournament after winning the Most Valuable Player honors.

Big man Arvie Bringas had a game-high 27 points and 16 rebounds while wily guard Joseph Gusi had 17 points for the Staglets. Marco Cam also had 12 points and nine rebounds, who will be vying for their fourth straight title in the coming 84th season of the NCAA.

"We are ready for the NCAA," said Valenzona.

The Staglets were never threatened in the game after their slow start. Gusi brought the lead to 24 points--the highest of the game--on a lay-up to give the Staglets a 65-41 lead in the third.

The Staglets were also motivated after they lost to the Greenies in the finals in the other preseason tournament weeks back.

"We prepared for a week for this game. Hindi kami puwede matalo ng dalawang beses sa kanila," said Valenzona.

Mikee Reyes finished with 22 points while Marvin Maraiois had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Greenies.

La Salle-Greenhills came to within 11 points, 86-75, with only 1:43 left, but time just was not on its side for this one.

Vosotros was also included in the juniors Mythical Five along with Mikee Reyes, Martin Reyes, Gusi, and Bringas.

Adamson University, meanwhile, secured the women's title beating defending champion University of Santo Tomas, 73-61.

The Lady Falcons scored back-to-back baskets to end the first half ahead, 36-33. They continued to silent the Tigresses' offense to start the third clustering six straight points to take a 42-33 lead.

"This is a team effort. Ito ang team na walang star player pero maganda ang linalaro as a team," said Adamson coach Emelia Vega.

MVP Kat Sandel tallied 15 points to complement Daphnie Tecson's 17 markers for the Lady Falcons, who avenged their loss to the Tigresses--their lone defeat--during the group stage.

More importantly, UST's Marichu Bacaro was neutralize by the Lady Falcons' defense. She scored 11 points but shot only three-of-15 from the field.

"Talagang focus namin sa depensa si Bacaro. Kahit iba na ang umiskor, basta mapigilan namin siya," Vega added.

Analyn Almazan scored 11 points and grabbed 20 rebounds while Anna Buendia had 11 points for the Lady Falcons.

Nikki Leonardo led the Tigresses with 13 points as teammate Rem Buenacosa chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds.

In the women's battle-for-third, De La Salle beat Philippine College of Criminology, 63-52.

I was told that based on the NCAA rules, the advantage of SSC-R's sweep is an outright berth in the finals. They don't need to go through the quarter finals and semi finals. No twice to beat advantage na. Its going to be best of 3 championship.
