Wilson (has range on his shot, physically developing, needs to be more consistent with smarts and shot selection; reminds me of Ato Morano)
Ballesteros (needs to develop his upper body strength and inside game ala Dwight Howard)
Hermida (shows courage and the smarts needed to run a team; has to develop a more consistent outside shot)

de la pena - hinog na for the pros
menor - hilaw, has to improve ballhandling and decision making
jazul - baka mabangko lang
viray - good prospect
ekwe - of course, but i don't know about his citizenship
hermida - malabo, even marvin cruz could hardly make it

KDP is the only sure guy. *** iba kcing player, they cannot elevate their game in the pros, for example, during college, they can play thier natural position, however pagdating sa pros they cant play their position due to lack of height and competitiveness. KDP is a Smart Point Guard, an All-Around Player who can score, pass and rebound. a prize draftee for a team who needs a point guard, and he's 6'1'' in height a very good height in the pros. kaya as of now, sya lang yung pang Top 3 in any draft...

The UAAP players would definitely get the top 5-8 spots, with the exception of KDP going in somewhere in between these. Kung si Aljamal nga last year, 7th pick na eh. Considering how good Aljamal is. Are you suggesting Escobal is a better pick than Aljamal?:lol:

That's because Marvin Cruz is a "Me First" and not a "Pass First" guard in the collegiate ranks who looked for his own shot more. Thus when asked to play the point in the pros, he definitely struggled because he didnt have the mentality to run a team. His ability to launch shots which was his staple in college became harder still in the face of bigger and stronger guards who are just as fast. Besides, with a team like UP, they needed a player who can shoot in bunches. Not the case in the pros, where Hermida's playmaking on the other hand will be put to good use.

When I said that the top spots would probably come from the UAAP, I didnt mean to say na wala nang manggagaling from the other leagues. I totally forgot about Norwood or Mercado(I dont even know if they will apply for draft immediately or not.) The UAAP players definitely has more time in the spotlight. Guys like **** would be there(IMO). But what Im saying is, Escobal aint all that. How can you say he is a better pick that Aljamal? Come on.:lol:

^Escobal is a better pick than Aljamal because Escobal has been trained as a point guard which will work in his favor if he continues in the pros. Escobal has court intelligence at 6'1" that will serve him as a professional player. Aljamal at 6'4" was used by San Beda as a power forward and now in the pros he has problems adjusting at the no. 2-3 position. He is required to play outside which is not his natural game. Aljamal finds his rhythm getting those garbage points and occasionally being set up from the perimeter.

I think that among the current crop of NCAA players the ones that have a chance to make it to the PBA are as follows:
Escobal as stated above;
Borgie Hermida considering that he is just in his 3rd year this year still has 2 more years to play for San Beda, that will give him enough time to harness his skills. He has to improve his outside range but his speed is impressive.
Garvo Lanete has 4 more years before turning pro but as early as last year he has shown signs of brilliance and moves that are even better than his older brother Chico.
Bam Bam Gamalinda for two reasons. 1 he provides instant offense and 2 he is a good defender.
Ogie Menor - He is an athletic guard, who can shoot from the outside.
If the PBA adjusts its rules to accomodate naturalized Filipinos then Sam Ekwe might be able to strut his wares.
Other possible candidates:
KDP
Jazul
Wilson
Sena
Jason Castro

2 seasons pa c KDP, look:
*1984 *** birth year nya (he'll be exactly 25yrs old by 2009 NCAA season.
*5-years allowed breakdown
-1st year (2005 NCAA Season) - 2005 Rookie of the Year
-2nd year (2006 NCAA Season)-
-3rd year (2007 NCAA Season) - Mythical 5, Season MVP, Mr. Triple-Double
-4th year (2008 NCAA Season)-still to come
-5th year (2009 NCAA Season)-still to come
However, there are rumors that he is interested to join the PBA Draft this year even if he can still play in the 2009 NCAA Season; I think it will depend on this 2008 NCAA season, if makalaban *** Mapua sa NCAA Finals, regardless kung manalo or not, he will join the draft.
Maganda performance ng Mapua ***** sa Nike Summer League 2008, 5-0 sila...

I think the rule is something like dapat 24 ka at the start of the season and okey lang na mag-25 during that time frame. Pag-25 ka sa start, disqualified na. KDP's birthday I think is January so 25 sya bago mag 2009 Season.

PBA opens door to Filipino-foreign rookies next season
By June Navarro

MANILA, Philippines—A new breed of hardcourt stars will flock to the Philippine Basketball Association as the league opens the door for Filipino-foreign rookie applicants yearning to play next season.
Foreign-born dribblers Gabe Norwood and Solomon Mercado are expected to go up high in the list as the PBA began entertaining Fil-foreign aspirants in time for the Aug. 31 draft.
PBA commissioner Renauld “Sonny” Barrios Monday said Fil-foreign players have until July 8 to submit the necessary papers to prove their Filipino roots before the league reveals the list of prospective foreign-bred draftees three days later for the teams to scrutinize.
Barrios said teams would be given a month at the most to contest the eligibility of Fil-foreign applicants on the list.
“We’re doing this to make it easier for prospective rookie players and the teams,” said Barrios.
Homegrown players aspiring to join the league will be required to submit their applications starting Aug. 12, a day before the PBA finally decides the legitimate Fil-foreign applicants who will attend the draft rites.
“We want everything to go smoothly when the league holds its draft,” said Barrios.
With the prolific Jason Castro opting to sign a six-month deal with the Singapore Slingers in the Singaporean league, other local talents such as reigning UAAP MVP Jervy Cruz, guard TY **** and Ateneo de Manila University’s Ford Arao will have a brighter chance of landing high in the first round.
Also expected to get picked early are Chris Tiu of Ateneo, University of the East big man Mark Borboran, Harbour Centre’s Beau Belga, Mapua’s Kelvin Dela Peña and Hapee Toothpaste’s Reed Juntilla.
The league will release the final roster of rookie candidates for the PBA Draft on Aug. 15 and hold a rookie camp a week prior to the exercise on Aug. 21-23.
Chances are high that Welcoat, which exercised the top pick on Joe De Vance last year, will have another crack at the No. 1 overall selection if the Dragons wind up last in the ongoing Fiesta Conference.

IMHO;
Ogie Menor-at this time he still has a lot to show and develop in his game;
Pong Escobal-a smart pg with good and decent outside shooting
Borgy Hermida-a very quick player with catlike reflexes
Bambam Gamalinda
Garvo Lanete
Dave Marcelo-reminds me of a young Benjie Paras; and to think that at a very young age he is already 6'5" by the time he is ripe for the pros he will be about 6'7".
Jay Taganas-he is like a modern day Chito Loyzaga, if he can get his rhythm going he can play like Ken Bono because he has range kulang lang sa kanya ay confidence and exposure but mind you during untelevised preseason games this guy can score about 30pts.
San Beda is a very deep and talented team that often very talented players are being overlooked. I am not saying that its a Celtics but the similarity is that sa Celtics star players like KG, Allen and Pierce sacrifice their game for the sake of the team ganun din sa Red Lions kaya yung iba that are exceptionally talented are not apparent because they are playing for a team laden with talent.
