Don't you think Marcelo is the better choice than Taganas for the starting PF position? No disrespect to my fellow Bedans who are fans of Tagans, but I think he is the Kwame Brown (God bless him) of the Red Lions. I don't think Taganas is in shape nor does he have the height to play the position. He is also too slow, cant jump high enough and can't post up. Yes, he can score a few points from few offensive rebounds but what I'm looking here is the significance of the PF position in the team, namely in defense. Sorry but he isn't an effective rebounder or defender. Hayes or Sena will eat him alive. Bulk can be an advantage in basketball but Taganas can't capitalize on it.
Call him Joey Boy.
(sigh* I guess we will sorely miss Yousif Aljamal next season)

I'm not updated on how his game has improved but based on his performance last season, I'd give the the get go position to
season 83 ROY Dave Marcelo.

I don't think Tagans is in shape nor does he have the height to play the position. He is also too slow and can't really post up. I'm not updated on how his game has improved but based on his performance last season, I'd give the the get go position to Marcelo rather than baby shaq.

My take on the matter is I would stick it out with Big Daddy on the starting lineup. If you have watched their current stint in Fil-Oil against Ateneo, not sure about his weight and height (he is an undersized PF), he did compensate by showing a lot of hussle and intensity on the minutes he spent on the court. Look at him as our Charles Oakley/"El Aparador" Joel Dualan (in his prime) in our Team Animo. He has developed his mid-range jumpers and if he improves his three-point shooting, we might have a stronger, red cub-mold Apepe back in the den.

But who knows? Come this NC maybe we can see a Marcelo/Taganas combination. Just that our roster is so deep that even our bench players can start for other teams.

Among the power forwards of SBC, Taganas was the best performer in the offseason. Nung offseason kasi naka-split ang team para mababad yong 2nd stringers and Taganas played more or less 30minutes per game. There is this game in the offseason where he scored 38 points by owning the post and shooting 3 pointers. The opposing team was clueless on what hit them that day. Kahit kami sa bench natutulala sa mga pinagagawa nya. We are on good shape with Shaq Daddy. *okay*

Dave Marcelo is the future of the San Beda RL, but this is JR Taganas time. Its been so long that Taganas was a reliever for guys like Aljamal etc. and to think that he started out as a starter. This is JRs time and I think even Baby Shaq knows that if he does not come out with a solid performance this season he will not have a promising basketball career to look forward to. Sure our guy is bulky but he is a hard worker with a nose for the ball. He defends well and has a good shot at the perimeter.

Dave is still a sophomore and his time will come. I see him as the next Benjie Paras.

You cannot expect Taganas to put up Aljamal's 15 points and 9 rebounds in S82 and S83. Rebounding numbers maybe but its quite impossible to expect Taganas putting up 15 points per game. What he lacks in terms of mobility, height and heft he makes up for it with his basketball IQ. In the past two seasons other than Aljamal, Taganas is the next realiable bigman in decoding full court press. I have seen most of RL NCAA games in the past two seasons and I have yet to see Taganas committing a single turnover in running the ball in the middle against full-court press.

Marcelo's time will come. This way also we can protect Marcelo against early foul trouble. Mas foul phrone kasi si Dave kesa kay Shaq.

One thing going for shaq is, he has long accepted that he is no athletic bunny. Outjumping opponents for blocks or rebounds were never his options. Hahaha. So he compensates by using that one basketball skill he innately has, I.Q.
Kaya hindi siya foul prone. Di na niya inaantay yung tao niyang makabuwelo, sa baba pa lang dislodged na ang posisyon ng kalaban para makatira. Body up lang.
