nagtataka lang po....
i always visit PeX, why is it always Ateneo and La Salle?
bakit UP was never compared to these schools?
was it because UP is nothing compared with Ateneo or La Salle or is it that UP students/graduates are just humble enough to lower down their pride (they don't boast their alma mater).....
ano kaya? why? bakit? ngano?

...because UP is a class all on its own, comparison with the said schools is definitely not warranted

i dunno....i think it goes back to the people who put up the schools...yes, religion...SJ vs FSC. alam mo naman dito sa pilipinas, and hilig mag-compare. Don't mind the rivalry, instead, mind some more important things like....the garbage problem?...(please! sawa na ako sa impeachment trial!)

Ever since pre-war days (before World War II) both La Salle and Ateneo have always been the Philippines' glamour schools - not UP.
In fact even now the best & richest Philippine Families ONLY consider sending their grade school age kids ONLY to elite La Salle grade schools (Greenhills or Ayala Alabang) or Ateneo grade school & NEVER to non-elite UP Integrated School.
Even the Philippine Elite are either La Sallian or Atenean.
The Ortigases, Zobels, Cojuangcos, Aranetas, Rufinos, Prietos, Pardos, Concepcions, Gokongweis, Villavicencios, Del Rosarios, Cuisias, Sobrepenases, Razons, Magsaysays, etc. are La Sallians while the Escalers, Pangilinans, Lorenzos, Cojuangcos, Yulos, Aquinos, Jacintos, Punos, Cruzes, Guerreros, Gordons, Payumos, etc. are Ateneans.
Another reason why state-supported UP is not associated with elitism or glamour is due to the fact that 80% of its college students come from the lower strata of Philippine society from all provinces of the country who avail of the privilege of being "scholars ng bayan" thru their subsidized Tuition Fees.
So since quality education is very expensive (not only in the Philippines but worldwide), state-supported universities like UP where tuition fees are made very low due to the annual government subsidy is a way by governments to enable poor but deserving students to also get the high quality college education offered by universities like La Salle and Ateneo.
Rivalry between La Salle and Ateneo? Call it a FRIENDLY RIVALRY.

I've these questions for you: When can you say that a family is one of the 'Best Philippine Families'? And how were you able to conclude with exactness that these families send their children only to Ateneo & La Salle?
By the way, (and I just can't let this pass): "...high quality education offered by universities like La Salle & Ateneo." really should have been "...high quality education universities like La Salle and Ateneo are hopelessly attempting to approximate with their exhorbitant tuition fees."
FRIENDLY RIVALRY? C'mon, I've got Atenean friends who wouldn't go to La Salle for a million pesos... for me, that kind of rivalry sucks.

The competition between Ateneo and Lasalle starts with the little kids. Diba gradeschool palang ... alam na ng students na magka away sila.
The rivalry with UP (and other universities) starts sa college level na. Syempre dahil sa UAAP. Unlike Ateneo and Lassale na magkalaban na from the very beginning. Kaya mas matindi ang rivalry nila.
Or hindi ba?
