The National Collegiate Athletic Association will name Joe Lipa as the league’s Season 84 basketball commissioner.

NCAA Management Committee chair Ding Lozano of host Mapua yesterday said Lipa would most likely be picked as league commissioner because of his past experience as one and his technical expertise in the sport.

“There’s a high percentage that coach Joe Lipa will be our choice to become the NCAA commissioner because of his experience and technical know-how,” Lozano, who took over from Paul Supan of Jose Rizal, told The STAR.

Lipa’s appointment marked his return to the 84-year-old league he once served as its commissioner three years back when Letran College was host.

After his stint, Lipa returned to coaching and handled the University of the Philippines Maroons but it didn’t turn out good. He was later tapped by Philippine Basketball League commissioner Chino Trinidad as consultant of the Harbour Centre-backed RP team that eventually copped the gold medal in last year’s Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.

Lipa would replace Ogie Narvasa, head of the Basketball Coaches Association of the Philippines who was chosen by last year’s host Jose Rizal. – Joey Villar

Buti naman at hindi na si Narvasa. Kita ko nung haminin niya ng suntukan yung Letran Alumnus na may edad na. Sumisigaw lang naman at di naman nag mumura. E nasa mga 4 rows sa likod niya. Pinapatahimik niya tapos akalain mong hamunin ng suntukan. Siyempre di papalag sa kanya yung letranista kasi commissioner siya ng NC. Si Alfrancis Chua ang nag pacify kay Narvasa. Tapos humingi ng paumanhin si Alfrancis dun sa kawawang matanda.

mukhang magkakaroon ng "trade" ang UAAP at ang NCAA. NCAA gets Coach Joe pero sa UAAP daw, baka si Narvasa ang i-appoint (siyempre, hindi naman i-aappoint nina Cao at Callanta ang kaaway nila na si Lipa, hindi ba?). :rolleyes:

i don't remember this incident where narvasa challenged a senior letran fan. & alfrancis chua pacifying him? are you sure you did not get the names & faces mixed up? chua the troublemaking narcissistic s*o*b? :eek:

narvasa may have challenged coaches who refuse to toe the line but an aged fan? how old is "old"? :confused:

not picking a fight here, just confused. it's so uncharacteristic -- of narvasa, of chua, & of letran fans to be on the defensive & not the other way around (you know, offensive :naughty: )

If i'm not mistaken It was the game of JRU and Letran in the final 4 last year. Medyo bombayin pa nga yung features nung Letran Alumnus. Kitang kita namin kasi ang nabili naming tiket ay Letran side though sa San Beda kami. Medyo konti lang nanood nun sa Letran pero very spirited at buhay na buhay ang Cheers nila.

That was last year, andun ako sa Araneta noon. Tinuturo ko pa nga sa dad ko nangyari nun kasi nakita ko si Chito Narvasa tumayo tapos gusto na lapitan yung alumnus ng Letran pero pinigilan na lang siya ni Alfrancis Chua. Hindi ko talaga alam nangyari noon kasi nasa side ako ng San Beda nung time na yun.

Mr. Narvasa have an attitude na madaling mag init ang ulo. I think hindi lang sa game ng JRU - Letran in last year's final four meron ganitong incident. Honestly, hindi ko nakita at nabalitaan yun dahil nasa side ako ng JRU.

Coach Lipa should look seriously on the calls of the referees. Maraming games last year na hindi maganda ang mga tawag ng refs. Sa game fixing hindi masyado problema, dahil matured na ang mga players ngayon.
