Why do we have to capitalize on a san beda-letran match when we should instead provide equal opportunities of exposure for other member schools? If we want people to realize there is an ncaa, then let the league as a team and family work on that.

I agree 100% with andreiboy and dufresne....letran - san beda is just a trying hard copycat of the LaSalle - Ateneo rivalry.... I grew up watching Lasalle-Ateneo rivalry in decades..but not Letran-San Beda. Sorry, but their rivalries were just short lived...before San Beda went on to win back to back Championship, they were just sub par .500 team and we're not even close to Letran's NCAA success...let's leave it as it is.......just think about this, in UAAP , if it's not Lasalle it's always been Ateneo as Champions...in NCAA,for the las two decades it's been Mapua,San Sebastian, Letran, and now it's San Bedas's glory.

where's the rivalry? between letran and San Beda?..i won't buy it...
Everyone knew that NCAA is the most popular league and we don't need any gimmicks... there's too much hype for Lasalle-Ateneo rivalry and it will always stay that way..leave them alone and we have NCAA 84 season coming.

Though I am not up for such an idea, and no I do not want the NCAA to do something similar, I beg to disagree. HYPE lang ang nagspark ng "rivalry" ng ADMU-DLSU. Do your research and do not make people question your credibility.

Hmmmm.. NCAA 1939, NCAA 1959, NCAA 1974, UAAP 1988, UAAP 2001, UAAP 2002. Lagi?? I dont see a trend. Thats 6 times in 83 years. :bop:

I don't think it would be such a hit. And I agree with everyone else that the La Salle-Ateneo rivalry is overhyped. When in fact, UST and FEU hold the most number of championship in the men's basketball tournament. What a waste of time if you ask me.

It's basically the alumnis school pride of both Ateneo-Lasalle..they always wanted bragging rights whether academically or athletically..
That's what it is...they always wanted to find ways who's on top of the limelight...you see even here in NCAA forum we talked about them.....forget them !..let's talk about NCAA schools in our forum...When Ateneo left NCAA , Lasalle followed them to renew the rivalry ( not sure who left first )...even no championship were at stake..their rivalry will be forever no matter what the price is.

Viva Mapua !

San Beda’s Red Lions has no rival at present.

San Beda’s Red Lions is the champion of the NCAA. It is on top of the pack and at the moment the alpha male. The other teams had their glory days in the past but it is RLs time.

To be honest, last year’s championship did not live up to expectations. The 1st game of the series was won by the RL by at least 8 points and the 2nd game was virtually over by half time, except for some scary moments on the 3rd and 4th quarter. Last year, it is safe to say that the RL dominated NCAA senior’s basketball.

In comparison, the 2006 championship was stiff and fiercely fought by the RL and the PCU Dolphins. The Dolphins had experience and a talented line-up led by Castro and Espinas (2 of the best amateurs). The series went the distance with PCU winning the 2nd game, at a time that the RL thought they will close the series after winning the 1st game by a convincing margin. The 3rd and final game, was almost won by the Dolphins if Belga’s shot was not a little bit short.

IMHO, this year the biggest challenge to the RL will most probably come from the JRU Bombers. The Bombers are hungry and they have a talented line-up, which could probably be the best they can muster in years. The Bombers will probably go for broke. Last year, they have a team that lacks experience and confidence. They have addressed these problems with stints at the PBL. I watched a game, wherein Wilson was impeccable from the three-point line. With Hayes and Sena developing, this will be a formidable team.

No team can be singled out as San Beda’s rival, the rest of the NCAA post as a challenge. They are all RL’s adversaries. San Beda’s RL will always be the Red Lions no matter which team they play in the finals and its students, alumni (not alumnis) and supporers will always be there to support its championship bid. If San Beda’s RL wants to remain on top it should have a firm grip on reality and that means not to rest on its laurels. The other teams are catching up, but with its current roster of talented players it will not be difficult for the RL to keep its distance.

Rivalries are media hype made to sell tickets and for publicity purposes. It is unnecessary and frankly,... unwanted (by most Bedans).

PAX.

That's true.. sa UAAP. UST and FEU have the most number championships, which happened mostly during the time when UAAP only had 6 teams for about 50 long years.. the NCAA teams have 8 teams almost all the time in its 83 years of existence.. Nalala ko tuloy yung joke na yung isang atenista na pagkataba-taba na nagyayabang na nanalo daw siya 2nd place sa isang running or sprint race.. nakakagulat kasi ang taba-taba tapos 2nd place finisher? yun pala, dadalawa lang sila sa karera! hahaha.. teka, were you letting us know about the number of championships the UST and FEU had won combined as a joke? hehehe.. sorry, i thought you were serious.. these 2 schools had the most championships when UAAP has had 6 teams most of the time! lol.. that was a good joke! pero it sounds like the second placer fat atenean.. hehehe.. laos na yung joke.. lol.

Surprisingly the PBA is actually entertaining thoughts of other college rivalry jousts and the SBC - LETRAN pairing is one of them.

Ateneo-La Salle game begs a rematch
A rematch seems to be in the offing after the exciting charity showdown between archrivals Ateneo and La Salle ended in a draw at the Araneta Coliseum Sunday night.

The final score at the first PBA Ateneo vs La Salle Showdown was chalked at 90-all, thus turning it to another “unfinished business.”

“The battle for bragging rights between the arch rivals was not resolved. I certainly welcome a rematch between these two teams, more so if it’s for a cause,” said PBA board chairman Tony Chua, the man behind the game held for the benefit of the Players Educational Trust Fund.

Even Atenean Enrico Villanueva echoed this sentiment. "Ateneo-La Salle eh, siyempre, we wanted to win, pero parang Pacquiao-Marquez to – unfinished business,” he said.

It was a tie for former Ateneo and La Salle hard court heroes when their professional players went on a head on collision at an exciting charity showdown at the Araneta Coliseum Sunday night. The score was chalked at 90-all.

The game proved to be a thrilling ride for both teams as the Eagles stalked arch rival Archers for the first three quarters. They went on a striking distance and even led at the fourth quarter at 90-88.

Archer Mike Cortez, however, was the saving grace for La Salle as he capped the game even with two charity shots.

At the first quarter, La Salle immediately went down to business with Macmac Cardona and Renren Ritualo leading the scoring spree. The quarter ended in favor of the Archers, 27-24.

Ateneo fought back at the second quarter with Magnum Membrere leading the charge. The Eagles remained trailing at the end of the first half, 44-40.

Eagle Olsen Racela sparked a 7-2 comeback hustling on both sides of the court after Ateneo went 12 points behind La Salle. La Salle’s Don Allado, however, fired back and gave the Archers the lead to wrap up the third, 67-61.

Villanueva and LA Tenorio gave it their all as the fourth quarter turned into a mad scramble between both teams. A three-pointer from Tenorio and a free throw from Wesley Gonzalez evened things up at 84 with 1.39 remaining.

From that point the lead went back and fourth with Ateneo and La Salle exchanging clutch baskets and charity shots. At the end of the regulation, the score was 90-all.

Since it was an exhibition match, there was no overtime, ending the game at a draw.

For the Archers, Coach Jong Uichico said, "it ended perfectly. Both teams played a good game and while we may have wanted to win, it still ended well. It's a win-win situation."

Ateneo mentor Chot Reyes, for his part, said: "with nothing on the line, we gave it our best. That's a warning to the people who didn't come out to watch today – never miss an Ateneo-La Salle game."

The starters for Ateneo's side were Villanueva, Gonzales, Tenorio, Doug Kramer, and Larry Fonacier. The rest of the squad includes Mebrere, Racela, Gec Chia, JC Intal, Rich Alvarez, Paolo Bugia, and Macky Escalona.

The first five for De La Salle's side were Allado, Cortez, Cardona, Willie Wilson and Carlo Sharma. Adding fire power were Ritualo, Joseph Yeo, Junjun Cabatu, Mark Telan, Adonis Sta. Maria, Jay-R Aquino, Ryan Arana.

PBA Players’ Educational Trust Fund
The benefit game was conceptualized by Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner Sonny Barrios and the Board of Governors with the project's proceeds going directly to the PBA Players’ Educational Trust Fund (ETF).

The fund, which handles the tuition of the children of former PBA players, is more important now after some basketball celebrities got embroiled in another investor scam.

The Ateneo-La Salle game could also be just the first of a series of benefit games according to the PBA.

“We may also pit in the future other basketball rivalries like Letran-San Beda, Ateneo-San Beda, Letran-San Sebastian, UST-UE, FEU-La Salle and others,” said PBA operations and technical chief Rickie Santos. With a report from Anne Yosuico

FYI lang The All Time Greatest Basketball Player in the Philippines is from San Beda, Caloy "THE BIG DIFFERENCE" Loyzaga!

The "Big Difference" also produced two sons who became basketball stars in their own right, Chito and Joey. Though he was not able to duplicate his father's greatness, Chito became known as one of the PBA's best defensive players. Heck, the Loyzaga brothers were deadly three-point shooters too.

NYHC

Loyzaga’s finest moment was the 1954 FIBA World Championship where he led the Philippines to a third place finish and captured the bronze medal in the process. It is the best finish by an Asian country and the Philippines have remained the only Asian medalists in the said tournament to date. Loyzaga himself finished as the tournament’s third-best leading scorer with a 16.4 points-per-game average and was named in the tournament's All-Star Mythical Five selection.

Dude, that pang asar was being used even during the time of my father at JRC and we just laughed it off na lang. Hindi naman nabawasan ang pagkatao namin... maasar ka nga lang, there's a saying di ba na ang asar talo? It seems ikaw ang naasar dito. I also used to react negatively whenever I hear that chant during the games (student days) at RMC or Loyola gym... pero hanggang doon lang. Meron din away during or after the game, pero what the heck! Hindi lang naman JRU ang napa-pa rumble then almost all of the members school. Maging matured lang tayo, kahit students pa kayo (i.e. high school, college, etc.) and I'm sure na informative at better exchange of ideas ang mga thread dito.

Always remember that your post will only show your character and paano ka pinalaki ng family mo. Sometimes the school will also dragged into this at huwag na natin palalain ang situation.

Again. Not getting over the ADMU-DLSU thingy.

Well, at least, this is more close to their level. lol.

I'm tired of reading about that "ateneo vs. san beda" thing.
Laging my crossover sa UAAP eh.tapos, ka -level pa daw nila ateneo or La salle.

and i read somewhere here, prefer daw nilang rival is either benilde or letran sa NCAA. ka-level din daw nil yun.

But they are not of the same level daw with jru, pcu or with baste.

to whoever said that they don't agree with these showdown of SBC vs. CSJL...same here....hehehe...just to clarify that i don't have anything against these two institutions...because i believe in NCAA talents esp. in basketball(because that's my sport)...marami na din tayong na-produce na magagaling na players in PRO ranks...

but i have to agree to UAAP - PBA legends vs. NCAA - PBA legends...(correct me if im wrong)
