Studio 23 is replaying some classic NCAA games today.

Sa first game, nanalo ang San Sebastian against Mapua dahil sa last-second shot ni Chris Baluyot.

Leo Najorda was also playing for the Stags then, as well as a then-raw Jason Ballesteros.

Sa Mapua naman, nandoon sina Christian Guevarra (where is he now?), Erwin Santamaria, Neil Pascual and Jerby del Rosario.

By the way, Burger King head coach Allan Gregorio was the analyst.

Sa second game, San Beda (with a very lean Yousif Aljamal) playing Letran with Boyet Bautista, Aaron Aban, Mark Andaya, Jonathan Aldave and Eric Rodriguez.

For the record, Letran under coach Louie Alas and led by those players you mentioned won the NCAA title in 2003 and 2005.

First Year college ako nito. naalala ko kinut pa ang class nito sa Letran dahil sa bad weather. kahit ang lakas ng ulan at baha na sa ilang lugar nanonood pa rin ako ng Live:lol: Rookie pa dito nun si Andaya tapos the following year Final Year niya na sa Letran.

The game was intense and full of excitement except for that scary part where a Cardinal (Not familiar with his name) tried to block the fastbreak layup of a Red Lion (I think it was Alex Angeles) in the 2nd quarter. The former landed akwardly and in the process dislocated his left knee. You could feel the pain as seen from his kneecap. One of the worst injuries I've seen in Philippine basketball. I could probably compare it to what happened to the Clippers' Shaun Livingston last season.

2004 80th season un game n nireplay kahapon won by the red lions over cardinals. Maganda rin un first game between the stags and the heavy bombers elimination round un, jru won that game courtesy of 3 points buzzer beater by wynsjohn te 81-79.

I think this was Season 80 of the NCAA. ito yung time na nakapasok ulit ang SBC sa Final Four after so many years yun nga lang natalo sa Perps nung 2nd game ng Final Four. under Nash Racela pa nga sila nun.


siguro next monday Final Four Game 1 na. maganda yung both games nun. PCU vs Letran and UPHR vs San Beda where PCU & UPHR had a twice-to-beat advantage pero na-force ng Knights at Red Lions na mag-karoon ng rubber match game.:)

NCAA retro game ngayon 2004 final 4 pinagbaligtad nga lang, inuna ipalabas yung SBC vs UPHR bago yung CSJL vs PCU.

paborito ko itong game na ito lalo na yung dying seconds. muntik na matalo ang Knights sa Dolphins

it was a very memorable classic letran knights ball game. Actually PCU was top seeded and has a twice to beat advantage. They are ahead by 7pts around 2:45mins (4th qtr.). Jonathan Aldave made the 3pts 3.8sec remaining to push a sudden death game but its was a good run but shorth. But after a year they become 2005 champions.

celtics, I covered one championship game for Sports Radio in the NCAA in 1999 during Letran and JRU. I vividly remember na nagkaroon ng batuhan ng barya ang mga supporters of JRU at malapit na akong matamaan ng barya.

Even Janelle So, who was a Vintage courtside reporter then, was also a victim of those coin-throwing fans.

That game was held at the ULTRA with Letran winning its second title by a mile in Kerby Raymundo's final year in the NCAA before he joined the PBA with Red Bull and later, Purefoods.

As you said, it's doubtful if that game will be replayed kasi Vintage holds the rights to it. And I don't know where the old Vintage tapes are.

gatumbato and garcia played in the ncaa during its first year in the NCAA only and that was in 98. so there's not much of attention these two had during the ncaa days.. naging controversial lang sila coz they played in the PBL already after only a year in the NCAA.

as for calaguio, i don't think naabutan pa niya yun VTV coverage.. parang hindi na yata kasi kerby and miller na yun naaalala ko eh.. i may be wrong though..

sorry to disappoint bro pero wala pong tv coverage ang ncaa basketball noong 90's.. kung meron man, yun opening ceremonies and games lang yata yun.. nagstart VTV coverage noong 1997 upto 1999 lang yun.. then nawala ulit.. surprisingly, there was a coverage nun game 1 2000 finals (csb-baste). sabay game 2 walang coverage...

kahit ako gusto ko din makapanood especially yun rivalry nila rodney santos at ruben delarosa, first 4 championships of baste, and letran-mapua games noong mid 90s.

Well, what can i say..they are a bit dis oriented. I think what they need is a good motivator. Leo Isaac has it takes but it needs time to mold players nowadays. There are so many things to consider. Like having an outside temptation is a bad vice.

To name some of the vices are:
1. Trading of Blue chip Players
2. Comparing of allowances
3. Managers and Bonuses
4. Contract offer for commercial leagues or Play by night
5. Housing
6. Girlfriends (optional)
7. Gimiks or night out
8. Swell headed players

These are the items that we do not have before and i guess the formula of having a championship team lies without it.
I can say this because those items i mentioned were not present during our time (1990-94).
We played in honor of the school and played with our hearts out. If you know what i mean, then there's no contest about it.
I would like to clarify and state that every coach and players must bind or gel together otherwise you will not claim the crown or bring home the bacon. This is why we have team buildings and other activities that will fast track the players and coaches together in one goal.

Wow. You know what, that game was settled by a decision lapsed by Coach Castelo. Anyway, breaks of the game also.
I am now based in Davao with my own business and still playing pick up games. There are many players who played in Manila that came from Davao like Jomer Rubi, Jaypee Pacheco, Arvin Bonleon to name some. I played short stint in the PBL Red bull and Springmaid in 1994-97 after my college days. I guess it was not my destiny to play in the PBA. How about you, what is your business? Studio 23 is replaying some classic NCAA games today.

Sa first game, nanalo ang San Sebastian against Mapua dahil sa last-second shot ni Chris Baluyot.

Leo Najorda was also playing for the Stags then, as well as a then-raw Jason Ballesteros.

Sa Mapua naman, nandoon sina Christian Guevarra (where is he now?), Erwin Santamaria, Neil Pascual and Jerby del Rosario.

By the way, Burger King head coach Allan Gregorio was the analyst.

Sa second game, San Beda (with a very lean Yousif Aljamal) playing Letran with Boyet Bautista, Aaron Aban, Mark Andaya, Jonathan Aldave and Eric Rodriguez.
