After months of back-breaking practices and intense competitions, the courageous Animo spirit of Benildeans prevailed once again as DLS-CSB is declared this year’s NCAA’s overall champion.

Its mission accomplished by its gutsy athletes, DLS-CSB formally accepted the four-foot trophy symbolizing general supremacy in the 83rd season of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) last February 29.

It’s the second time since joining the country’s oldest collegiate league that DLS-CSB captured the overall crown. The school first reigned supreme during the NCAA’s 81st season, in 2005-2006.

The victory is extra sweet for the athletes who had to grapple with a controversy that rocked the College’s basketball team. Like a wounded warrior however, the Blazers proved that adversity could only serve as a challenge in their quest for redemption.

After the battle smoke cleared, the school garnered an impressive total of 391 points – more than enough to catapult it to the top of the heap and wrestle the crown from last season’s champ, the Philippine Christian University (PCU).

So dominating was the performance of the Benildean sportsmen that every team, except for one, booked a place in the medal standings (see Honor Roll on page 8). Thanks to a holistic sports program in place, DLS-CSB may look forward to a long and glorious reign at the top. Animo Benilde!

I recall back when we got our first crown nung 2000, may dinner lang sa gym sa taas and a speech from Bro. Dizon dahil proud na proud siya sa DLSU and CSB for reigning supreme not only in both men's basketball but also in women's sa UAAP and WNCAA. Sa football field ng Lasalle tayo pwede maki-bonfire kundi eh gumawa na lang tayo panibagong tradition of celebrating such achievements without using a bonfire to make a point. :D
