don't get me wrong!?! I'm an anime purist! it's just dat ang daming nagsasabi na pangit ang dub ng ABS-CBN/GMA so i though what do you guys consider a really good "dubbed" animé...
my fave? i liked the English-dubbed of Perfect Blue... i saw both the dub and sub, at sobrang loyal sya sa sub!!!

This will probably be my last post in this topic, so I'll keep this short. This list is in no particular order, ok?
1. Gundam Wing (GMA)
-Among the dubs of GMA, I find this one the best, simply because it retained the solemn and serious mood of the original anime. And the dubber of Quatre is the one who dubbed Lucrezia Noin, which retains the tradition that Quatre should be voiced by a girl. ^_^
2. Ghost in The Shell
-Whoever did this dub is pretty good. I'm not in the mood to justify why I like it so I'll leave this as it is.
Err...that's all. ^_^

Ranma 1/2 (the Viz team)
and whoever did Aeka & Jinnai in the Tenchi & El Hazard series (the OVAs, i think, not the TV series)
ditto on anime purists, IceAngel :)

Ranma 1/2 (the Viz team)
I agree with you there, Kurama. I haven't watched the whole dubbed version of Ranma 1/2 by Viz, but from what I was able to fathom, its pretty good. The voices match the mouth movements of the characters. Actually, from all the dubbing works of anime I've seen I think Viz are one of the best. I have watched nameless anime (nameless because I forgot the titles of the anime, silly me!) dubbed by Viz and they're all pretty much above satisfactory.
Does anyone here know who did the English dub of Neon Genesis Evangelion? I think that dub's pretty ok.

hello again!!!
ADV did the dubbed version of Evangelion... if you would listen closely, you'll notice the similarity of some voice actors w/ that of the 80s anime Voltron (i dunno! just check it out!). i really like Asuka's voice!!! it was done by Tiffany Grant and she did an EXCELLENT job!?! it's her best work ever!!! Rei's voice is so soft and subtle... Shinji's ok... though i liked the Tagalog voice of his...
EL Hazard and Tenchi Muyo did a fantastic job!?! if you listen to the original dub of EL Hazard on AXN, you'll notice that the English dub is a lot better (especially wen it comes to Makoto,Alielle, Nanami, Jinnai and Fujisawa's voice!). Shayla Shayla and Ryoko have the same English voice actor.
I think Viz, Pioneer and ADV are the best English dubbed companies in Northern America (their base is in Canada, as i've been informed)
again, tnx for posting!!! :shy:

As this seems to be relativistic, I have come to appreciate Ghost Fighter (YuYu Hakusho) being dubbed in Filipino, despite their goof-ups in the early part of the show by mixing up the genders of the characters. The Japanese version with the English subs, however, sounds just as well.
I have never heard the English version of YuYu Hakusho, known as Poltergeist Report in the United States, so I wouldn't really know how it sounded like.
As for Dragon Ball Z, I preferred the original English version shown in the late 80s to early 90s. The redubbing in Filipino nowadays makes me cringe at times. :|

VioletJersey: I agree with you wholeheartedly that Rei's English voice is very good, its so quiet and is almost identical to the original Japanese version and the way the dubber projects her voice is really hard not to like. As for Asuka, I find her English dubber very funny and she has this controlled "whiny-ness" that just makes Asuka, well...Asuka. :) I don't understand why everyone I know doesn't like Kaworu/Kaoru's English voice, its very much ok. I mean, compare it to the AXN FY dub *shudder*, its a whole lot better.
VioletJersey
Jan 17, 2001, 12:44 AM
i totally agree w/ u!?! the dubbers of AXN are either too good or too annoying!?! i think the only voice actor that i liked there was the one who did Tamahome, Kazuki and D's voice... the rest are downright IRRITATING!!! lalo na yung si Miaka!!! :grrr:
Kaworu's voice? ok naman sya... he sounded like Kaji but di hamak na mas maganda sya compared to that of yung sa Tagalog dubbed...
hey, have you seen Ah My Goddess!? i plan to buy a copy of it... is it highly recommended?

VioletJersey: Ah!My Goddess is a good buy if you're into romantic-comedy types of anime. It's the first anime that i really liked and i hope the movie gets here in the phils.

I'd have to say....
Tenchi Muyo! - dubbed by Pioneer
El Hazard - dubbed by Pioneer
Ranma 1/2 - dubbed by Viz
Outlaw Star - dubbed by Bandai
Cowboy Bebop - dubbed by Bandai
Dragonball Z - dubbed by Filipinos as an English dubbed

Ranma 1/2 was excellently dubbed. They lost none of the character's attitudes in translation, and it's a lot easier to get the 'Shampoo speak funny' jokes in English.
Golden Boy is the single best dubbed anime I've ever seen. Kintaro Oe's English seiyuu deserves to be worshipped for his on the money portrayal of the world's smartest pervert.

Ranma 1/2 the best dubbed anime!
The voice characterization is excellent. I've watched the subbed and the dubbed, and the corresponding voice characters are almost at par, especially for the voices of Ranma, Akane, Shampoo, Kuno (Tatewaki), Kuno (Kodachi), and Soun.
Yu Yu Hakusho is quite decent as well. :)

The best Filipino dubbing I have heard is from Yuu Yuu Hakusho. Up to now I have yet to find it's equal. The voice of Alfred (or Kuwabara to the purists) is perfect for such a goofy character, and the dialogue doesn't come off as overly awkward.
The best English dubbing I have ever heard comes from the anime "Cowboy Bebop". They actually talk the way real people do (not the extended and forced dialogue found in Samurai X)! The dubbing isn't the only thing good!
It's a great anime that is influenced by Lupin III, though in no way similar in art. It is THE best anime series I have EVER seen. It is about 26 episodes in length, and I have episodes 1-12. I have seen the others and I'm looking for copies. If you are a real anime fan you should make an effort to get this!

the Pioneer version of Trigun has been the best dubbed anime i've watched so far. translations were so directly literal i could've sworn i was listening to the japanese version and fully understood what i've heard.
i agree with VioletJersey, maganda talaga 'yung pagkaka-dub ng Perfect Blue. chalk that up as second on my list of best dubbed animes.

i'd have to disagree with you. malayong malayo yung voices ng card captor dito sa original japanese voices. i was also very disappointed when they took out sakura's trademark "HOOEEEEE!!!!!"
i really love the way DoCo USA dubbed ranma 1/2. kahit yung pagkanta nila ng opening and ending songs magaling. my fave is the dubber of shampoo. she's old yet she managed to pull off shampoo's voice

Ranma 1/2 = definitely the best dubbing ever :D
other anime with excellent dubbing:
Outlaw Star
B-A-S-T-A-R-D
Ruruoni Kenshin (English Dub- not the crappy ABS-CBN dub)
Yuyu Hakusho (I actually like the Filipino dub :D)

Ghostfighter - probably the best Pinoy dub EVER!
Ranma 1/2 - definitely superb, especially Shampoo and male Ranma's voices...
Macross PLus - great too. Miyung has a good singing voice.

Akazukin Chacha (cartoon network) - english
Card Captor Sakura (abs cbn) - they say abs cbn's dub is better than the american dubbed ccs. the filipino voice over of sakura (though she sounds irritatingly squeaky) almost captures the voice of the real japanese sakura.
Ranma 1/2 - the english one.

yeah... the tagalized version of ccs is way better thatn american dubbed. pero mas maganda pa rin *** Jap version.
i liked licca din b4 and ghostfighter din.
escaflowne was good too although i kinda hate hitomi's voice. :D

i'd have to disagree. malayo yung filipino voice sa japanese voice. and why did they cut the "hooeee!!!" part? that is sakura's favorite expression.

i think the dubbing of licca-chan was nice. or baka kc hindi ko pa naririnig *** japanese dub.

i have to agree with you here; i personally liked the dubbing in gundam wing. ito lang yata ang isa sa mga iilang pinakamatino sa lahat ng mga pinalabas na anime sa gma. i like the filipino dubbed version of the card captor sakura tv series as well; i don't see anything really wrong with it. i already watched its 2 movies in japanese (w/ english subtitles, of course), & so far compared to the filipino version, ayos lang. the english dubbed version of it (as 'cardcaptors') also sounds pretty cute, but i really prefer the filipino version more. (though mas gusto ko pa ang boses ni li shaoran sa japanese version)
sa lahat˛ ng mga napanood kong tagalized anime, pinakagusto ko talaga ang pagkaka-dub sa super doll licca-chan. talagang bumagay ang mga tinig ng mga characters sa kanila. they really did a very great job here. that's one of the few things that really made me love this anime a lot more, among other reasons. the filipino version of akazukin cha cha's also okay; i watched the english version on 13 (movie versions yata 'eto), & somehow, it's quite a refreshing take from what i'm pretty used to in watching the series original on channel 2. cha cha's voice sound pretty cute & fitting in both english & filipino, though i very much prefer yakko's filipino voice more (she sounds quite more like an old hag in english ^^'). same goes with marin's ---- mukhang nag-mature siya masyado sa boses niya sa ingles. ^^' (or maybe it's just because i'm not very used to it.) then again, i still like the filipino version more.
as for english-dubbed anime, i very much prefer the english version of dragonball z & ranma 1/2 when they were still shown in english back then. medyo mas nakakailang panoorin ang mga ito sa 7 in its tagalog form kahit minsan. mas na-appreciate ko sila sa ingles.
ayun.... :hmm: depende lang talaga siguro kung saan ka mas nasanay... :cat:

Absolutely best dubs:
1. Ranma 1/2 - to me, its still the standard of all good dubs.
2. Ghost in the Shell
3. Princess Mononoke
4. Cowboy Bebop
5. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
6: Oh! My Goddess
7. My Neighbor Totoro
8. Macross Plus
9. Goldenboy
10. Ninja Scroll
And all the other oldies like Astroboy, Voltes V, Daimos, Transformers, Voltron, Kimba the White Lion, Robotech etc.

Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro is my favourite. Not only is the english dubbing great, it was done by Hayao Miyazaki too, plus the DVD version rocks!

if you're comparing the english dub and the filipino dub, mas maganda na sobra yung filipino dub. lang kwenta ang pagkadub ng nelvana.
kaya lang mas soooooobra ang pagka-cute ng boses ng jap sakura sa fil sakura. sayang nga yung HOEEEE!!! hehehe

I suggest you guys watch both the sub and eng-dub versions of Goldenboy. There is a HUGE difference! The eng-dub is so much more alive!!! :D
Kintaro sounds like a wimp in Jap but in English, he turns into the education-hungry pervert that he was meant to be!
"I wish I was a motorcycle seat!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"C-base? Is that like 3rd base???"
:D :D :D
Oh, and evangelion-english is nice too. Cute ng voices nina Asuka and Misato. They really fit the personalities. Misato is the sultry, bedroom type voice but can also be bossy while Asuka is the *****y, know-it-all, little-miss-perfect teenager that can sound really irritating and grates on your nerves but can also be sweet and vulnerable. Just perfect! ;) Shinji sounds like a spineless wimp... yup, they got that part right too...

Personally, in no order, I think that Sailormoon's Tagalog dub was okay.
Same naman sa Gundam Wing.
Cardcaptor Sakura's dub in English is better than in Tagalog. Just my opinion. I downloaded a Tagalog dubbed episode and I was like, ??? So I just went back to my WB English dubbed Cardcaptor Sakura.
Ranma 1/2's dub is really, really good too and I liked the English dub of Dual! Parallel World.

rinoa: I dunno who dubbed the English version I saw. It's on WB here in the US. I think it's just a matter of getting used to the dub too kasi. I got used to the English one and I think that it's pretty good. I dunno how Cardcaptor Sakura's Tagalog dub is doing though.
