Just an honest question...I've been working for a long time now...And I always admire how Ateneans and La Sallians respect each other...this is just an observation...what do you think? Honest opinion.

Why shouldn't they? IMHO, I don't think the rivalry between these two schools goes beyond the basketball court. I have met many LaSallians and not once did I think about the rivalry between our schools. Nor have I noticed them make a big fuss about it. It's a non-issue, really. It's just unfortunate that some people haven't realized that this supposed rivalry is really absurd.

True. Actually, kakabasa-basa ko lang ng archives ng La Salle kahapon and I found out that the rivalry really started in Basketball. Sila yung unang nagdala ng bands and cheerers na ngayong tinatawag na nating PEPsquad so nagsimula ang cheering culture sa kanilang dalawa. Tapos edi yon, naki-singit nalang yung iba.
About respect? What respect? Hinde. Joke lang po. Honestly, when I was young, I was really intimidated by Lasallians and have always admired Ateneans. Hehehe. Nasa La Salle ako. Bakit? The best ang College of Business and Economics namin e. Hehehe.
Isa pa, I have friends in Ateneo and I know theyr'e good persons. Bilib ako sa mga friends kong iyon so siguro malakas ang respeto ko sa Ateneo dahil na rin sa kanila. OKs ba?

The rivalry started when Ateneo was still in Padre Faura. I think what started it was when La Salle won over Ateneo in the'39 NCAA finals, nag-motorcade yung La Salle and they passed by the Ateneo grounds and threw fried chickens at Ateneo territory, dun nag away-away and so began the rivalry. Pero at least mas civilized na ngayon yung rivalry, wala nang mga rumbles during games.

to answer the question:
because the two schools are similar and because they need each other more than either one will care to admit.

Come to think if AdMU and DLSU bond together in unity and work together. 2 different campuses with similar goals. They need each other to improve.

Because, despite all the school-bashing, they recognize that the other has good traits worth respecting.

for me, it is simply because these people are well-refined and mature persons. if there is such thing as a rivalry between the two schools, it exists only in the basketball court. i dont understand why students from the other schools could not give as much respect to the ateneans and lasallians.

I'm a blue-blooded La Sallian (I've been in LSGH from Kindergarden to H.S.), now I'm here in DLSU :D. IMO La Sallians and Ateneans should be respect each other. Not only in sports or in academics, but in everything. I've got a lot of friends in ADMU (and my barkada is in ADMU, too), and we have a lot in common kahit "rivals" ang schools namin.

People from DLSU & ADMU may try to kill each other in word wars here in Pex, but it's highly unlikely that they are going to kill each other irl. That would be a dumb thing to do.
They have to be nice and like each other....after all, they have to see each other everyday. :D

why not?!?! i mean after all they were the two of the most popular and nice universities in town. there may be competition in terms of sports and education, but hey! these are only issues... they still remain to be competitors. why? because they are damn good!!!

In my opinion, LaSallians and Ateneans respect each other because they recognize the education provided by the other's school. I'm still in college but I've met a good number of Ateneans and they're good. It is an undeniable fact... I do maintain my position that LaSallians are just as good.

Well, they respect each other because they respect each other! Need we say more?
