E guyz... I've been wearing my specz for quite some time now and I need some change...
I'm quite hesitant to wear eye contacts because, at first, I'm afraid that my eyesight will worsen. Can you tell your experiences wearing them? Did you experience any complications?
Is it also ok to wear contacts even you just commute? because some say it's quite sensitive in pollution.
And also..can u give me an estimate how much does contact lens cost? (minimum to maximum)
Tnx:)

Hi moonlightrain. I have been wearing contacts since I was a junior in HS, so I have been wearing contacts since time immemorial, hahahha . I have even tried wearing hard lenses then kasi it was cheaper. GRabe parusa :bop:
Anyway, hmmm, I dunno about worsening eyesight, kasi maraming factors yun eh. Like me, tumaas lalo grado ng mata ko but I don't think it was because of the lenses. Sobrang kakacomputer lalo na sa gabi. So I wouldn't say it can make your eyesight worse. Complications come when you don't use them properly. I have had bouts of conjunctivitis, dry eyes, corneal abrasion. Pero don't fret, kasi those happened to me kasi sobrang tigas ng ulo ko. Like I would sleep with my lenses on. Before, I would wear them for two weeks straight na walang tanggalan. So as long as you use them properly, you'll be good.
As for the commuting part, just wear shades or any kind of protection while you're in a commute kasi it really does get irritated with the pollution. As for the cost, iba-iba kasi yan eh. It's best you go to a clinic and inquire. Siguro yung regular extended wear lenses would be about P1200 a pair, correct me if I'm wrong pexers.
Hope this helps.

I've tried contacts before and, as a girl, it was fun because it was easier to wear accessories, etc, without worrying if it clashes with my glasses, hehe. Yeah you could say my primary reason for trying contacts was for vanity! :glee:
Pero mas mabusisi siya siempre kasi kailangan mong linisin everytime you take it out or put it in, you have to lubricate routinely during the day...buti nga ngayon wala na yung tablets, dati dapat once a month gawin mo yun.
I didn't experience any major complications with the contacts, except my eyes really got stressed as I was wearing them everyday and I work with computers pa. My optometrist advised to alternate wearing contacts and glasses, so at least your eyes can rest.
Also, even if you have contacts you still have to have glasses...kasi once at home I remove my contacts and just wear glasses :nerdgirl:
There are disposable contacts for P200, I think at Executive Optical. You can wear them for a month.

Jan 23, 2008, 01:28 AM
hi moonlightrain! of course you, can use colored contact lens..so far i've only had corneal abrasion pero sobra minor lang - i only had to change my lens kasi hindi ko napansin eh sobra 1 month na pala sya hehe! you really have to change lens every month or 2 if you're going to use the disposable type. if you don't, it will cause discomfort to your eyes.
cost - P950 to P1000 something for a box of 3 pairs..better have spare lenses ready kasi you won't know when you're going to need one hehe! accidents happen..hahaha!
with cleaning the lens..never had a hard time kasi i'm using a lens solution that does both for lens cleaning and for my eyes..i mean meron pa kasi yung iba na hiwalay pang linis ng lens tapos iba pang babad for overnight, stuff like that..buti nag labas yung cibavision ng aquasoft moisturizing lens solution, doesn't dry my lenses..hehe!
commuting with lens on? the only thing i do is when i got home eh patak lang sa eyes kasi nakaka-dry talaga pag commute mo (well, ideally lubricate mo eyes anytime of the day :) )..

I decided to get contact lens kasi hirap tumingin sa viewfinder ng camera and para maiba rin. hehehe.

Hey guys... pasingit sa thread ha! sa una *** naman mahirap mag contacts... ako before it would take me 5 minutes just to put one lens... Ngayon i can do both in less than 30 secs. Ang pinakamahirap naman talaga is pag nagdry, tumupi or napunit!
BTW, Ideal Vision has a promo for Fresh Look Color Blends lenses... 1,700 php. sya buy 1 take 1 so you have 2 pairs! Mas maganda sya ksi its fresh look! Bka gusto bumili nung TS...
Pag clear naman its 995 php. 3pairs (there monthly lenses but its up to you paano mo gamitin.) kso sabi phase out na daw... pero try mo pa rin...

That is still expensive even with the promo. I would not buy that and look for a better deal.
Freshlook colorblends is a good brand that you'll get a subtle and natural look when you're wearing your colored contacts.
I'd pick that over Acuvue in a heart beat.

alam ko yung mga extended wears you can sleep on them. Mine are like that pero they're prescriptions, so when I get tamad, I sleep with my contacts on :bop: medyo dry nga lang when you wake up. I know Freshlook has extended wear and Acuvue too. I also tried OPtix and they have extended wear din.

uu meron ng ganun, kaso syempre mas mahal sya compared sa oridnary disposable contact lens, try to inquire sa Ideal Vision Center sa mga SM malls, last time I check eh disposable palang ang meron wala pang good for 1 year.

^^ AMEN to that... I'm wearing contacts since 2nd year college.. sana nga nung highschool pa, para mas marami akong nasalihang school activities. hirap kaya ng walang makita at limited ang galaw mo sa eyeglass..:mecry:
Tip nga pala pag ngdra-dry *** mata mo pagsuot mo *** contact lens. try to "hikab" or "yawn" para malubricate yung mata mo ng natural lubricant ng mata which is tears.*okay*

So may disposable contacts din ***? How much naman kung hindi disposable?
ALso, can u pls. name the best brands of contact lenses so I can have an idea. thanks again.
And last, iba pa ba ang bayad pag palalagyan mo na ng grado yung contacts?

You guys should try the contact lens that you can wear for 1 month straight. Thats the most comfortable pair of lenses I've ever tried.

Jan 26, 2008, 05:25 PM
I have been using contact lenses for three years.. I tried colors like gray and brown..they are super nice...yun nga lang, when you opt to shift to contact lenses from eyeglasses, you should be sure na hindi ka tamad mag linis and mag alaga ng lenses mo..and sometimes nagiging super pula na din ng mata ko pag matagal na tapos hindi pa din ako naglalagay ng lubricant...basta you have to be extra maalaga when you are going to use it.

^^ straight? 1 month?.. nung nagtanong ako sa Ideal vision, they said na walang available sa country natin na contacts na kahit di mo na tanggalin, yung pwedeng itulog. basta they told me something about climate whatsoever, di naman daw kasi tayo gaya nung ibang bansa. haha, ewan ko ba,.

I have bought extended wears sa Ideal vision, those are the ones na pede mo itulog. Pero I think the practitioners are wary lang na if they say pede mo isuot ng one month na walang tanggalan eh dumami ang may corneal abrasions at eye infection because of that at i sue pa sila :p I remember when I was in pinas, I wore my lenses sometimes mga 2 wks straight ng walang tanggalan, promise, no exxag! feeling ko nun, wow, ang sarap gumising ng may nakikita :naughty: It didn't affect my eyes then kahit hanggang pagdating ko dito sa states, pero habang tumatagal, mas nagiging madaling ma irritate ang eyes ko and that's when I told myself na kahit extended wear sya, I'd always take 'em off kasi mas mahal ang eye surgery :D

I've been wearing contact lenses on and off since last year. I wear them kasi minsan tinatamad ako magdala ng glasses to school or kahit saan. I buy the 600Php for 3 pairs sa Executive Optical. 1 month per pair mo pwedeng isuot yung lenses. So far ok naman ang experiences ko with the lenses. As for lubrication, kadalasan whole day di ako nagpapatak. hehe.
Question, what do you think about no-rub solutions?
clawed_out

I've always used the no rub solutions and I lightly rub them just to be on the safe side.

on and off contact lens wearer, depending on need and availability:
-i've tried flexwear (executive; eto yung 3pairs for 600)
-biomed (optical shop, tinted and mas malaki diameter than flexwear, 700+ for 3pairs)
-acuvue (they had a promo kasi, buy 1 take one)
-when i started wearing contacts, i preferred biomed over flexwear kasi mas mabilis ma-dry yung mata ko sa flexwear and it was easier to put on biomed lenses because of the bigger diameter
-compared to acuvue, eventually nalakihan ako sa biomed. i find contacts with bigger diameters easier to put on than smaller ones but harder to take off haha. lalo na pag di naglubricate the whole day, ang hirap tanggalin!
-i only buy the cheap, disposable ones kasi i tend to lose contacts easily and pagnagmamadali napupunit ko so pag extended yun ang sakit sa bulsa
solutions:
optifree
i recently tried solo care, the best to pambabad if you work or stay in an airconditioned environment for the entire day. it really moisturizes the lenses. i don't use it for wetting kasi although the label states all purpose, it omits the word "wetting" unlike optifree. and i tried it once, haha, masakit parang ang lapot yung feeling. so optifree ang pangrinse and pangwet ko

Started using contacts right after I graduated from college. At the first week, you'll wish you never bought one or even tried one! I took me about 5minutes per eye to insert the lens at sobrang sakit sa mata, at maiiyak ka talaga. Maybe because the eyes is still unjusting to the foreign object. You just have to be patient.
I'm also using disposables. Several times na ko nakagasgas ng lens and it was also painful kapag nasuot mo na and you have no idea na gasgas pala. I don't wear it overnight, I take it out once I got home. I'm using freshlook all-in-1 solution. For the lens, I tried acuvue, boch&lomb, frequency and medics. They are all good.
Iwasan mo lang siguro tumapat sa e-fan or aircon. There was this time na sobrang na-exposed yung face area ko sa aircon. And then my eyes started to get watery and there was a burning sensation. Di ako nakatiis kase pulang-pula na *** mata ko and I was like crying na. So I decided to take off the lens. Wala pa naman akong dalang cleaning stuff or spare glasses, kaya I have to take a taxi from Manila to Cavite kase wala talaga ako makita. Moral lesson: bring your cleanser or a spare eyeglasses all the time, mahirap ang bulag!

You can sleep with that on, however not for weeks straight, Silicon type yung pwede i-tulog for weeks/months not extended wear types. It has something to do with oxygen permeability chuva and Extended types accumulate protein not unlike silicon types.

^^hmmm, maybe it's called differently, but I swear I have used those, and slept with it for 2 weeks, and alam ko yun ang tawag. As for the oxygen permeability chuva, I learned about that when I got here sa US na, so I'm pretty sure those that I bought at Ideal vision were the ones I used for 2 weeks straight.

there's a special kind of contacts to correct astigmatism. they're called TORIC contact lenses. and they cost a bit more compared to ordinary lenses.
in cases like that, hindi pwede ang colored contact lenses.

Hmm, I've been wearing contact lenses for around 5 years now and I've always suffered from dry eyes. Manageable naman pero it never occured to me to try other contact lens solutions to solve the problem. Any feedback on Solo Care Aqua? Supposedly it helps make lenses more wearable esp. in aircon environments.
Sanayan lang talaga ang contact lenses. Kabisadong kabisado ko na ngayon pag natupi or nadislocate ang contacts ko... or pag nag pop out, naiinsert ko mabilisan kahit walang salamin :D But if the lens has been out of the eye for more than a few minutes it will dry up like hard plastic! Can't use it anymore...

Solo Care Aqua works better than the original solution *okay* ..pero not guaranteed to make "lenses more wearable" becuase you still have to put in a few drops from time to time to keep your eyes lubricated, but definitely it will be more comfortable to use than the original solution..basta ganun..hehe! i've been using Solo Care Aqua ever since it came out in the market...sayang walang small bottle to carry in my bag kaya ayun i make patak lang when i get home from school...:D

Contact lens user here too! Been using contacts for more than 10 years now. I almost always wear my contacts, glasses lang when I'm home. But if my mood (and outfit) calls for glasses, then glasses is it! :D
And yeah, ever since the Renu tainted bottles recall, I haven't used Renu in a long time. OptiFree user here. Although I did use All for a while and ok naman.
My contacts used to be prescription but some years back I had the worse eye infection ever! Parang doomsday na when my doc said I couldn't use contacts -- akala ko forever na  But when you've gotten so used to contacts, 2-3 months feels like forever. So when my eyes were all better, I was told to switch to disposables to lessen my chances of getting infections and I've been using them ever since. I change to a fresh pair every month... it's so routine already that it doesn't feel like a hassle to remove-clean/ disinfect-store-wear (next day). Parang second nature na yan.
moonlightrain as a new user, just always remember to keep your lenses clean. Let your eyes rest too, so alternate between wearing lenses and glasses. Or use switch to your glasses kung nasa bahay ka lang naman. It's ok to overextend the use of your contacts on your eyes but don't make this a habit... remember your eyes can only tolerate a certain amount of hours of a foreign object on them. And unless your lenses are the extended wear type, avoid falling asleep with your contacts on. Short naps are ok, otherwise sleeping with your lenses is a no-no. Madali kang magkaka infection nyan! Hmmm... ano pa bang tips... hehehe, isip muna ako.

Onga pala... to my fellow contact lens wearers, can you put on your lenses mirror ba? Hehehehe, wala lang... ako kasi, for some weird reason, I haven't mastered putting on my lenses without a mirror and I've been a contact lens user for a long time na. Kelangan ko talaga! Somehow I can't put it on right pag ganon. :D As long as I have something to look into when I put my lenses on, it's a 5 second routine .
I haven't used colored lenses in a long time na rin... it's plain lenses for me all the way. Dati, when I was still using custom prescription lenses, I had another one in brown. Pero I wasn't comfy using them kasi it looked downright fake. I'd like to try a colored pair in brown again but I want one that doesn't make the 'fake-ness' too obvious. Pang occasional use lang.. vanity trip or maybe on a night out. Plain contacts are for my regular use talaga.

any contacts brand/optical shop na may promo ngayon, preferably clear lang?
i also used acuvue last year lang, been using contacts pala since 1990!!, and i thought since it is a well known brand e OK na, yun pala it is the worst i have used so far! yes, di sya gumagalaw, it really hurt esp. if you're travelling or commuting and malayo ka pa sa bahay nyo at anduun mga "equipment" mo.
to think that i was specially treated (that's how i've felt, like a VIP treatment) by the doctor/optometrist,she recommended ACUVUE, yun nga it was the worst. i've only used the first pair since.
buti pa ang isang i forgot the brand na may libreng colored contact (3 pairs sya na clear), lower priced, lasted me a year for the 3 pairs!i am about to buy a new one kasi yeah 1 year na nga yung 3 pairs ko!hahaha...anyone know the brand nung may free colored contacts, it was only 1k ata sa The Optical Shop.? it came in a light blue packaging e, nawala ko kc yung pack na yun.

I think that is either Acuvue colors or some other brand if it has a blue in it.
To some that find their contacts uncomfortable (be it colored or clear), you should try to fit it with the optometrist before you can decide which brand is right for you.

Hi all.
Does anyone know what disposable/soft Toric contact lenses are available in Metro Manila? I have visited and called a lot of opticians and the only ones I can find are Ciba Focus. I would get these but they don't make them for my prescription. Ideally I want some Coopervision lenses which I have used before (from the UK).
I am currently using regular Coopervision Biomedics55 which are very comfortable but the focus is not as good for me as with Toric lenses.
Thanks in advance for any info and advice.

Hi guys!! Is it ok to use contact lens pag ang grado m eh 200 both eyes farsighted? mas comfortable pa ang eye glasses or contact lens??
baludoy
Mar 13, 2008, 11:12 PM
^mas convenient ang contacts especially if you're always on the go or if you're a very active person. as to the comfort aspect, in some respects mas comfy ang glasses especially if you're merely homebound for the day:)
re: your eye grade, sa palagay ko wala naman problema iyan. just be sure to consult your opthalmologist first before purchasing those contacts. don't just rely on those in house optometrists because they're not as thoroughly trained as opthas
btw mga kapatid, w/c lubricant brand out there do you guys use?

contact lens ok lang kahit 200 grade mo pero you have to check with your eye doctor kung ok ka for contact lenses..baka may astigmatism ka - kasi ang lam ko pag mataas ang grade ng astigmatism mo di ka makasuot ng contact lenses. anyway, before ka naman maka-purchase ng contact lens it will be with prescription di ba? hehe! i don't know ever since kasi dun lang ako kumukuha kung san ako una nagpatingin ng mata, so with prescription talaga..hehe!
i use cibavision aqua soft..:)

-ano yung pinakamaganda yet affordable na colored contacts w/ grade? ang nagamit ko lang is yung freebie that came w/ a box of biomedics55. hazel yung color - pang halloween sha! i looked like a vampire haha. tinapon ko lang.

an astigmatism grade of 25 is still low kaya you guys can still wear the regular contacts..anyway kahit may mataas na astigmatism grade you can wear na pala contacts - the toric lens..price difference i think would be P1k or less..more expensive ang toric lens..

hello everyone, i am very new to wearing contacts. and so naive. have read posts above. thanks to all your info. :)
i am an eyeglass user for 8 years now and have been using multi-coated lens para di glaring. do contact lenses have this technology too? my eyes are very sensitive to light / sunlight so multi-coated lenses helped me a lot, also to lessen my migraines.
i have astigmatism. -1.00 both eyes. :(:(

another thing: my eyeglass grade is -75. with my recent check-up, -100 na daw ako. when i wore the -100 contact lens, i feel na parang mas malinaw sa akin ang -75 na eyeglasses.

i have very stubborn eyelid which keeps on closing involuntarily when i'm about to put on contacts, that's why i can't use them. (had one before now expired na)
i really want to get one as using glasses can be pretty tiresome, so guys who had the same experience, care to share how you did get passed it?

Not really though. Grado is 400 (it runs in the family, lol). I use toric lenses for my everyday use. Not really cheap though. It's Php 1,800 per lens, and aabot sa 4,000K ++ for a pair. I'm a flight attendant, so I always keep an extra pair with me. Yeah medjo magastos but it's okay. Mataas astigmatism ko and the doctor said that it's okay to wear contact lenses. You need to visit your eye doctor once in a while to check kung tumataas grado ng mata mo.
On cleaning my lenses, I use Aosept - a hydrogen peroxied solution, not the solution that you use everyday to rub, soak and rinse your lenses. I use it once a month to remove buildup. You got to follow the directions very well and ask your doctor of course.
On the other note, no I haven't tried that contact lenses that you can sleep with, or even leave it in your eyes for a month. Parang nakakatakot even if it sounds safe, and they do tell you that it is safe. Your eyes need to breathe. Even if those kind would allow your eyes to breathe as well, it really does sound scary because sometimes I experience dry eyes. ;)

I got my first pair of contact lens when I was in second year high school. I remember I was in the clinic of my eye doctor, infront of the table, a mirror, the huge bottle of solution and the contact lenses in the case. I was really nervous. Trying to keep my right eye open was hard! Realizing I was sitting there for almost an hour. I was so disappointed and thinking of sticking onto my specs. I was about to cry when the doctor told me that I will not leave not unless I would miraculously insert the lens in my right eye. Imagine keeping the left eye open after that. It was worst. So I told him that I will bring all of it at home and try it the entire night. So after inserting the whole thing, trying it for an hour, I can't figure out how to remove it. LOL. It was funny. I calmed down, slowly forced the fingers on my left hand to keep my right eye open, and slowly inserting my thumb and index finger to gently squeeze the lens. And then it popped out. I was relieved. Don't be scared. I first got intimidated and now I can remove my lens with just two fingers. :bounce:

My initial lens fitting took about 30 mins.
Try looking straight or up then slide the lens on the lower part of your eye, where the eyeball curve is. Based on experience dun madaling dumikit yung lens. Once your eye "catches" the lens, look down to center it on your eye.

I've been wearing contact lenses for almost 8 years. And my doctor noticed that there are some bumps forming below my eyelids and this are because of contact lenses infection. Sabi ng doctor ko it's very natural daw sa mga tao na nagwewear ng contact lenses. In order to get rid of it I must wear eye glasses for 8 months. Tpos kung gusto ko daw na magsuot uli I have to apply some steroid to my eyes. Hay balik eyeglasses tuloy ako.

i've been wearing contacts for 12 years now and wala naman akong ganyan. i think the key here is to clean your contatcs every day before wearing them. saka pag disposable, dapat idispose talaga within the prescribed period.

Most often, if contact lenses hurt immediately upon wearing them, they must have been placed inside-out.
Before wearing, place the lens on the tip of your finger and make sure it is forming a concave upright letter C or with the edges curled toward the inside like a tulip. If the edges are curled outward, like the lips of a chalice or cup, it is inside-out. Baligtarin mo lang pag ganun.
Wearing contact lenses really takes time to get used to.
Re. toric contact lenses, monthly disposables are now available in the local market. I've switched to using these and they've been a life saver. I have very low grade but high astigmatism. I've been getting by with wearing regular contact lenses but the grade compensation for the astigmatism is not accurate. This would usually lead to frequent migraine headaches.
I think Focus monthly disposable toric lenses go for P2,000 for 6 pieces/3 pairs per box.
Always check with the optometrist or opthalmologist re. contact lenses. They need to compute for compensation when moving from glasses to contacts, and from regular contacts to toric, etc.

hmm, before I love wearing contacts lens (back in highschool) very nerdy kasi ako so, my mom told me na mag contact lens ako.
I have a, should I say mild astigmatism before. I got my contact lenses nung nasa 1.25 L eye adn 1.50 R eye ako. But siguro for years na I'm wearing contact lenses until 2nd year college, I noticed na biglang lumabo mata ko.
I don't know if that's one of the side effects pag long term use ka ng contact lenses na it would make your vision worst than ever. Dumoble yung taas ng grade ko but ever since I've switched to my glasses, di na tumaas grado ko and its been 5 years since I've stopped wearing those contacts. Up to now, wala na akong balak bumalik dun. Maybe occassionally na lang~ Hehe. I don't want to risk my vision for me being as a nerdy haha!

Wearing contact lens is actually nice - hassle free, and you could wear non-graded shades (lol). Yun lang, and be responsible. Kahit sabihin ng optician (of course they are way too different from the optometrist who are the specialists) puwede pantulog yung lens - by all means, remove your contact lens before you go to sleep. Pag nasa bahay ka lang, just wear your glasses. You still need to have glasses even you're a wearer of contact lens for emergency purposes....

correct ka dyan! i've been wearing contact lenses for 16 years na pero last september 2008, mga 3 times pa lang ako gumamit uli ng contact lens. i decided to switch sa eyeglasses (yan yung substitute ko before pag expired na ang lens/no spare lens) kasi talagang madaling ma-irritate ang mga mata ko kahit anong brand pa ng contact lens ang gamitin ko (disposable or not)
na-experienced ko rin yung napupunit ang lens, nagluluha, :mecry:namumula ang mga mata for weeks kahit maglagay pa ako ng sangkatutak na eye mo or visine... ang result, humahapdi lang. pag ganun ang feeling dapat magpa-check up na kayo and ask for prescription. syempre isa dun sa advice na wag muna gumamit ng contact lens. sensitive kasi mga mata natin kaya dapat makahinga talaga ang mga mata natin.
guys, better invest sa eyeglasses*okay* yun nga lang minsan pag matagal na ako naka-eyeglasses sumasakit naman ang ulo ko (if mataas na yung grade, request for thin glasses) until now (for 8 months not wearing contact lenses) masakit pa rin ang mata ko, humahapdi at nagluluha pagdating ng mid afternoon. kaya i prefer to sleep early just to rest my eyes. pasaway/tinatamad :bop:din ako before na hindi ko tinatanggal/nalilinis man lang ang lens kaya beware and take care of your eyes.
disposable lens is highly recommended. *okay*
if eyeglasses, make sure light feeling pag suot ang eyeglasses (depende siguro kung mataas ang grade ng lens) and bagay yung frame syo ha..baka mukha ka ng lolo/lola nyan.

i have a very high astigmatism plus my right eye is farsighted while the left eye is nearsighted. my opta suggest to wear contacts. Im using toric lenses too.

Hi, pink spider. Sanayan lang talaga pero toric contacts changed my life. For years, nagtiyaga ako sa regular contacts that compensated my astigmatism poorly.
Makapal lang talaga ang toric pero ako after just 1 month wearing them nasanay na. Halos mag 1 year na ako naka toric. Tsaka no need to physically turn the contacts, just place solution on your eyes then blink automatically mag aadjust yun to the right position...
Di rin basta basta na tatanggal ang contacts, I went to Boracay and we rode a banana boat at nahulog ako thrice di natanggal contacts ko hehe.
