Ok folks. This thread was created solely to discuss bomberboy's jru heavy bombers.
Post anything that is related to JRU, marvin hayes, nocom, pradas, cagoco, vanguardia, and their new players. :) :clown3: :clown: :jester: :joker:

I am a Bedan and I happen to like the JRU Bombers. Basketball is a game of real men where the men are separated from the boys. As Robert Jaworski said; "kung ayaw mong masaktan mag-chess ka na lang." The problem with JRU is that they don't play consistently tough, rough and physical. Parang pag RL lang sila matapang dapat kahit sino kaharap nila ganun ang laro nila para nakakasindak ang dating.

Same observatino here wellwell. JRU doesn't play it rough and dirty when they are playing against Letran.
Nocom is meek when he's up against Quinday and the rest of the Knights. I wonder why? :D

Thanks Shaq.
JRU is creating a distinct image of its own. Probably the most rugged and physical team in collegiate hoops today. Well, there is nothing wrong with it and in fact its a good training ground for other teams to specially in molding thier composure.
I managed to watch certain portion of FMC game between SSC and JRU last Sunday. Surprised to see JRU fielding a black import during the game. He is somewhere 5'10-6'0 in height with heavy muscles. His body frame is much larger and wider than Pipo. Any info on this guy? I previously thought he is part of JRU coaching staff dahil nakikita ko na sya dati.

A bunch of questions for bombedboy:
Who are your returning players?
Who will be gone next season?
Any blue chip recruits?
Is it true that Wilson is being recruited by a school located in QC? (do you know about this? :D )
Finally, is bchemist still your weightlifting coach? :naughty:

I'm still their coach and they are starting their training this week for the off-season....but I'm not in trash-talking mode. This is the rush period for our gyms and we are setting up corporate branches and our 3rd Makati branch, so everyone is in "off-season" mode.
So not much out of me will be heard until the season is near and they have 6 months of preparation.

JRU's import is now trying his wares at the current FMC tourney. He played versus SSC last Sunday, but did not show much promise. Siguro, nangangapa pa sya. They lost to a much improved SSC squad. Hope he improves his game though because he isn't that tall really. I heard him speak in English and from the way he spoke, I think he's from Nigeria or Papua New Guinea (like Pipo of FEU).

We should be more mature as an audience. Yung physicality ng Philippine Basketball is nothing compared to American Football and yet yung mga Kano they don't take it personally. Yung ginaw nila Nocom, Se etc. nuong last game bet. SBC and JRU wala yun, talo pa din naman sila. Kasi ang basketball patibayan yan. Sa international competitions at maging sa pro no harm, no blood, no foul.
NCAA should consider being lenient on fouls (hard). Papano matetrain ang ating players kung lalamyalamya at puro glamoroso. I say all NCAA teams should play like JRU. I definitely would like to see a certified San Beda RL enforcer yung tipong kumakasa talaga tulad ni Taupa. Patigasan tulad nuong panahon na kinatatakutan ang Pilipinas sa world basketball. Ang tanong lang are we mature enough to handle it? Kaya ba nating hindi mapikon?

^Shaq, I share your sentiments and I to get offended by those bashers, but to be fair we did say some nasty things about JRU most specially after the 2nd round game between SBC and JRU, and the Aljamal Case. We even have a very insulting picture of their head coach. In fairness, these guys Bomberboy and Bchemists were just defending JRU, although they did write some very bad things about us. These guys were practically a gang of two against hordes of Bedans. Its not that I am defending anybody but they love JRU as much as we love San Beda and if we treat JRU with a lot more respect I am sure that they will be reasonable enough to reciprocate that respect.
This is not the kind of justice we want.
Peace Brother.;)

Indeed adversaries can show respect. I've noticed that a great deal of respect was gained between the NCAA schools this past year. The elders and alumni have been doing a great job of policing their younger brothers (and sisters) and have been keeping things civil.
My hats off to everyone who is keeping the peace and keeping the discussion intelligent. I intend to do my part this year especially as well now that respect is being shown on all sides.

For instance, what happened during their FMC game versus La Consolacion? I heard things got a little hot. Is it true that one esteemed coach again hid behind his players back during the commotions?
Any blue chip recruits for JRU? Wala ba?
What about Cipriano of the Light Bombers? He took the ACET na daw. Will he pass?

Can anyone share info on that new kid in the line-up, yung matangkad. I think he is wearing jersey #17 in the ongoing FMC. Kung tama ang dinig ko his surname is Montemayor.
Ilang taon?
Ilang seasons siya eligible for the NCAA?
May katawan at maganda ang galaw sa shaded area. Maganda yung instinct niya in going for the basket.
Magandang masubukan against a Team A caliber frontline.
May laban yata ang JRU mamaya (Wed Jan23) kontra SBC-B. Red Lion aspirants Antonio and Udo are in SBC-B. Masusubukan itong #17 na ito.

Honestly I'm not impressed with their import. My opinion of him is that he's lazy. I've worked with him on several occassions and his attitude needs some adjusting. Maybe this will come with time.
The nearly built and new JRU athletic facility is VERY impressive. Their basketball court was given an upgrade to a material of the highest quality available by the manufacturer who is trying to establish a foothold in the Philippines. Coach V gave me a tour last week. Their athletic facility will be a powerful recruiting tool as well. I've seen DSLU's and Ateneo, and by comparison JRU will have the most well equipped gym and best-trained strength coaches, as well as the best basketball training conditions with their new athletic facility. The administrators want to win, and it's why I agreed to equip their strength and conditioning area with my coaches and equipment.
I'd keep a lookout for players such John Lopez. This kid has a very bright future. He loves his training and is a natural leader to his fellow red shirts.

look who's talking, as if you're not taking (hindi po making.. mali iyun) potshots at other pexers yourself.
so what do you want me to say? the carlo lituania and raycom kabigting have vastly improved and will pose a problem to rival backcourts in the ncaa? ok, shoot... watch out for these guys plus our new bigs who'll back up sena and nocom --- montemayor and lopez, plus our import who has a 42" vertical .... naman, isn't it obvious that we will continue to live and die in season 84 with the 8 mainstays that we have painstakingly developed thru the years (sena, cagoco, pradas, se, hayes, bulangis, cunanan and wilson).
the only real news for us, more of a rumor actually, is whether or not wilson will be back next year, because if it happens that he transfers then we will be in trouble.
in short, we are not looking to make significant changes in the composition of the team and thus we are hoping to parade exactly the same lineup next season. our thinking is that the two year bond of our seven mainstays should be enough experience to bring us to at least the title game.
so there, same old, same old. walang magbabago sa team. happy now shaq? *peace*
p.s. - sorry, hindi ko talaga alam iyung name nung import eh. top secret masyado kaya kahit iyung ngang mga estudyante ngayon eh hindi rin nila alam. pansin mo din ba na kahit si bchemist eh hindi rin niya binanggit? matanong ko lang nga shaq, why the interest with our supposed import (who BTW, is not even assured of a slot yet)? guard lang import namin, 6 ft flat lang (pero malakas tumalon) so dapat hindi kabugin iyung 6'8 at 6'7 ninyo.

On John Marion Wilson... He's on the way out of Jose Rizal campus. He is likely to join the UP Fighting Maroons in next year's UAAP festivities. It's up to him if he will stick with the Bombers or joined the likes of Benitez, Cardona, Gatchalian, Espiritu, Serios, Estolano, Tolentino, Borboran, et al in favor with other UAAP schools.
I've got this from one reliable source inside. This is the same person why BJ Serios transferred to UP. There are rumours that Serios was given a lot of perks aside for a car. I was surprised that this fellow is a gay. Still, pwedeng paniwalaan o hindi...dahil chismis.

Good for you. Hot air balloons can be a relaxing experience, so enjoy it and hot air balloons don't climb they are lifted into the air because the hot air inside the envelope has relatively low density than the cold air outside. In the same way that we did not climb we were lifted by our passion that fervently burn inside us.
I suggest that you guys create a JRU thread, I am almost tempted to do that but out of respect to true JRU fans and students, I would like them to have the honor of starting their own thread.

check this thread, i have refrained from posting in any san beda thread these past few days and what do i get for posting here at the jru thread? a sarcastic remark again from a bedan and to think i didn't post anything bad against your school. nagpapansin ba kayo? i just reciprocated what he did, he fired the first shot so i am just reacting.
by the way, kamusta iyung alumni niyo sa pcgg? balita ko kasi kakasuhan ulit siya?

I already did. As shown below;

Kita kita na lang sa NCAA games. Wala namang kwenta dito kung puro satsat lang at wala namang maipakitang resulta sa NCAA. :)
Back to basketball na. Kung may gustong magyabang e dapat siguraduhin niyang may ipagyayabang.
So back to topic, John Wilson is leaving JRU? He plays a very vital role in the Heavy Bombers' line-up and he will be a great loss to JRU's Final 4 aspirations.
But his departure (if indeed true), will create opportunities for the rookies and sophomores to shine although JRU's Final 4 chances will be affected.
Someone has to step up and fill the void.

Someone has to step up and fill the void.Yup, he's contribution to the team is very vital. At the moment I cannot see any player that will fill the void of Wilson position and will lose a veteran player like. Agas could be a nice replacement but he doesn't have the guts what Wilson did in his games. Agas is not yet capable of slashing the lane, get an offensive rebounds and bring the ball down.
Final 4? Medyo mahirap pang pag usapan yan, siguro malalaman natin during the 2nd round of NCAA elims. If Wilson will leave the team it will be tough for JRU to make it to the final 4.

QUOTE=Bomberboy;23521811]look who's talking, as if you're not taking (hindi po making.. mali iyun) potshots at other pexers yourself.
so what do you want me to say? the carlo lituania and raycom kabigting have vastly improved and will pose a problem to rival backcourts in the ncaa? ok, shoot... watch out for these guys plus our new bigs who'll back up sena and nocom --- montemayor and lopez, plus our import who has a 42" vertical .... naman, isn't it obvious that we will continue to live and die in season 84 with the 8 mainstays that we have painstakingly developed thru the years (sena, cagoco, pradas, se, hayes, bulangis, cunanan and wilson).
the only real news for us, more of a rumor actually, is whether or not wilson will be back next year, because if it happens that he transfers then we will be in trouble.
in short, we are not looking to make significant changes in the composition of the team and thus we are hoping to parade exactly the same lineup next season. our thinking is that the two year bond of our seven mainstays should be enough experience to bring us to at least the title game.
so there, same old, same old. walang magbabago sa team. happy now shaq? *peace*

As far as the people whom I talked to school officials yesterday during my kids field day eh Wilson daw is on the way out.

if ever na lilipat nga si Wilson, bakit sa Ateneo? hindi ba punung-puno na halos ang line-up nila except siguro kung willing muna siyang mag-Team B habang naghihintay ng slot sa Team A.
kung sa UP naman, well, ewan ko na lang pero dahil sa mga kabalbalan na nangyari sa team namin as a result of the gross incompetence of some UP officials, wala kaming matitinong recruits at yung mga recruits na dapat sana ay dadalhin sa Diliman ni Coach Joe Lipa (Nico Salva and Vince Burke) ay napunta na sa Ateneo. malaking tulong sa Maroons ang talent ni Wilson pero as far as i know ay 2/3 ang position niya sa JRU and UP is quited "packed" with 2/3's such as Migs De Asis and Martin Reyes. :?:

shend: dito na pumapasok ang malaking discrepancy sa rules pagdating sa NCAA to UAAP transferees compared sa rules sa UAAP to UAAP transferees.
NCAA to UAAP: only ONE YEAR residency (take the experience of Mark Borboran and VJ Serios when they moved from JRU to UE and UP respectively)
UAAP to UAAP: TWO YEAR residency (Soc Rivera will have to endure this after he moved from UP to Adamson)
if ever JM Wilson moves from JRU to UP, he will have to sit out for a year before he can suit up for the Maroons. sadly, kung naka-two years na si Wilson sa JRU, two years lang ang pwede niyang ipaglaro for UP dahil counted ang number of years niyang naglaro sa JRU plus the one-year residency requirement sa number of years na pwede niyang ipaglaro sa UAAP.
ang tanong: TULOY BA ANG PAGLIPAT NI WILSON SA UP?

You must also consider if his 2 years will be fruitful, ok lang siguro and besides kung hindi ka rin sisikat sa basketball mas maganda sa credentials na UP graduate ka.
I don't say na walang binatbat ang JRU in terms of academics...pero it's a fact pag nag apply ka at nakitang galing kang UP meron edge ng konti. Besides, a lot of Philippine Presidents went to UP while we only have one (Ramon Magsaysay Sr.).
No offense fellow JRU pero that is only my opinion.

Honestly I don't know the program of JRU Athletics. I doubt if someone knew it they will share it publicly. If Wilson really want to transfer it is his decision and JRU cannot hold him back neither do some personal perks for him.
If for example Wilson was being offered and JRU will match the other school's proposal, then it is unfair to the other players that also has the same caliber of Wilson. Career move is the term that most employee's who are transferring from one company to another. It is unfair for any individual to hold by a company 'coz you are valuable to their organization and in this case we can consider the school as a company.
Alam naman lahat ng players ng JRU before they entered the team what the school is offering. It is up to them to decide and besides they are the one who will make a name for themselves. The school will simply educate and guide them towards a path of a successful career they will choose.

SOME uninvited visitors have signified their intent to crash San Beda’s two-year party.
Despite being three months away from the start of the 84th Season of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s Seniors Basketball tournament, the defending champion Red Lions are expectedly the primary targets of the chasing pack. Out to end their reign are the same two teams that came closest last season.
Season 83 runners-up Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights and third-placers Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers have enough reason to believe that this year will be a step forward. Both squads return with the same coaching staffs, relatively intact cores and arguably bigger dreams.
Sixteen-time NCAA champions Letran enter 2008 with the same mentality that’s seen them through five consecutive Final Four appearances. Defense and a primacy on shooting remain the trademarks of the Muralla-based squad. And while head coach Louie Alas feels his team’s attitude is “still quite far from that of his previous championship teams’,” he’s confident that his players will mature soon enough to realize their potential.
Some issues, however, need to be addressed by Alas and his coaching staff. Team captain Mikko Quinday was the only player expected to leave the team after 2007 due to age requirements, but the Knights lost two additional key cagers for various reasons. Last year’s second-leading scorer Bryan Faundo is currently not with the team for academic reasons, and point guard Kirk del Rosario will likely sit out the year after undergoing shoulder surgery in the off-season.
In typical Letran fashion, however, Alas remains resolute. While Faundo’s loss is critical, given the fact that he’s able to pull opposing big men out of the interior due to his prolific perimeter game, Alas feels that some of his current players can pick up the slack. “I have John Foronda and Alvyn Cabonce, both of whom can shoot from the outside,” he said.
Cabonce, Foronda and Schubert Reposar are expected to complement Dino Daa, the team’s primary weapon in the paint. However, much of the team’s offense will be anchored on its perimeter players. RJ Jazul, arguably the league’s most dangerous shooter, high-flying Rey Guevarra and Reymar Gutilban form a dangerous troika that’s expected to shoulder about 60 percent of the Letran offense.
Over at Shaw Boulevard, the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers are doing things just the way they like it. With not much attention paid to them, last year’s surprise package are quietly attempting to put the finishing touches on a three-year program that’s catapulted them to the upper echelons of the league after a dismal 2-12 record in 2005.
Heavy Bombers head coach Ariel Vanguardia still has the six-man core from his first year in charge. Incidentally, these six players – Marc Cagoco, Marvin Hayes, Jayson Nocom, Maui Pradas, JR Sena and John Wilson – are all playing in the Philippine Basketball League, a clear testament to their growth and maturity. “This year is boom or bust. It’s the final year where I’ll have all six together, so this is our best shot at winning,” Vanguardia said.
Gone from last year’s team are defensive specialists RJ Cunanan and Alvin Se, while big man Jerome Ramos will skip the season after being tapped by the Nokia RP Youth Team. Prospects looking to break into this year’s roster include Capiz-based recruit Jecster Apinan, point guard Nathaniel Matute (who was originally recruited by a top-caliber UAAP school), former JRU Light Bomber Derico Lopez, and Cameroonian Nchotu John.
Key for the Heavy Bombers this year is production from their second unit. John Agas, JR Bulangis and Raycon Kabigting need to step up on both ends of the floor to support JRU’s “Super Six.” In Season 83, JRU’s reliance on its core players pushed them to the limit, resulting in tired legs in the endgame.
In terms of maturity, Vanguardia feels that his team has finally acquired it. “They’re mature; they pass more and shoot less. They’re ready.”
The Knights and Bombers both know that there’s more to dethroning San Beda than mere talk. Should they do more, this year’s bash may not be around the hallowed grounds of Mendiola anymore.

@ Big Boy: Among all the teams this year, I feel JRU is the most well-equipped to beat the Red Lions. They’ve got a big man who can shoot (Nocom), a legit post presence (Sena) and a deadly shooter (Wilson). The problem last year was their point guards. Cagoco and Bulangis caved in during endgame stretches. Coach Vanguardia says he’s addressed this, so it’ll be interesting to see how the point guard scenario plays out.
As for the new recruits, let’s watch out for Apinan and Matute. Apinan is a 6′3″ 3-4 who can slash and break down defenses, while Matute is a point guard who’ll be a matchup problem for guys like Hermida and even Gamalinda of SBC. If they make the team, I think they’ll be given the chance to contribute.
All in all, JRU will be much better this year. But as I said, being better is one thing, beating Beda is another.

the funny thing is that there are some bedans who acknowledge the fact that their school is not as good as the ateneo, la salle, ust, up and even csb. unfortunately though they are more of the exception rather than the rule. most bedans will insist that they are in the same league with these schools when in reality their school is just second tier. let's face it, a bedan doesn't usually rank high on the shortlists of top companies here in the philippines and elsewhere.

the funny thing is that there are some bedans who acknowledge the fact that their school is not as good as the ateneo, la salle, ust, up and even csb. unfortunately though they are more of the exception rather than the rule. most bedans will insist that they are in the same league with these schools when in reality their school is just second tier. let's face it, a bedan doesn't usually rank high on the shortlists of top companies here in the philippines and elsewhere.

Thanks... I would like to apologize for the mess created by one of our own. Still, there are people coming from Jose Rizal that are humble and really value the good education they have gained as a part of their student life in school.
To Bomber Boy, as I've said it before I admire your loyalty. However, this is not the proper place or thread for the arguments between you and other members of the school. Besides it's better to keep it low and silent rather than showing off. Eh ano naman kung tuksuhin tayong Hopia Factory? Dude, that pang asar was being used even during the time of my father at JRC and we just laughed it off na lang. Hindi naman nabawasan ang pagkatao namin... maasar ka nga lang, there's a saying di ba na ang asar talo? It seems ikaw ang naasar dito. I also used to react negatively whenever I hear that chant during the games (student days) at RMC or Loyola gym... pero hanggang doon lang. Meron din away during or after the game, pero what the heck! Hindi lang naman JRU ang napa-pa rumble then almost all of the members school. Maging matured lang tayo, kahit students pa kayo (i.e. high school, college, etc.) and I'm sure na informative at better exchange of ideas ang mga thread dito.
Always remember that your post will only show your character and paano ka pinalaki ng family mo. Sometimes the school will also dragged into this at huwag na natin palalain ang situation.

no seriously, do employers really think highly of bedans? do bedans get invited to participate in management trainee programs of the big corporations? that in itself is already confirmation of what beda's standing is as a school.

In fairness, one of my Board of Directors is a Bedan and is also the GM of our Malate branch. He was chosen over grads from UP, LaSalle, and Ateneo. He is doing VERY well, training several PBA athletes.

Yea, and I represent a very large corporation in Hong Kong also. We hire based on character moreso than we do the name of school. When I hired him I didn't even know the difference between JRU and San Beda.
As far as I'm concerned it doesn't matter where you go to school. It's how you choose to use your education. I just recently concluded a stint as an advisor for a group of LaSalle students for their Marketing thesis. They were average to be perfectly honest. Nothing special.
In the same note, I see something special in the likes of Marvin Hayes of JRU who I train. Sena will be a future player in the PBA once he matures more with experience. Both will make it to the pros for sure. They have great character, something that JRU should be proud to covet.
Bomber Boy, give it a rest. It's really REALLY getting old. You are not doing JRU any favors here.

Eman's future depends upon the freedoms given to him by the owners and managers of Magnolia. I saw him yesterday, as a matter of fact. It's the first time I've been able to train him for at least 2 months following his knee injury sustained in practice. Notice where his loyalties remain. Notice also that he wants his giant brothers to play for JRU if I am going to be the ones training them.
What are you implying with your question? It seems rhetorical to me.

In what way?!

Nice to hear that. Eman suited for the Heavy Bombers but unfortunately didn't played in the NCAA. He had to leave and went back to his province due to some personal / family matters.

Now you can understand the reason why JRU is sometimes the subject of ridicule among the reds. I respect your post as a source of credible information, you and that guy celtics are doing a fine job controlling your own.
Just to add, Bedans have also made a niche in business (among top corporations). The founder of Fil-invest one of the largest real estate corporation in the Philippines is a Bedan. Danding Cojuangco is also a Bedan (grade school), he was the top honcho of SMC but back then we don't mention it because of Bedan Ninoy Aquino (considered as a hero of EDSA1). Of course MVP (of smart, TNT). There are also Bedans holding sensitive positions at multinational corporations at the USA. At SMC I know Bedan lawyers holding key positions at their legal department and many Bedans are also at big banks (ADB, BSP, BDO etc.) If you give a Bedan an opportunity to shine, he will.

Mabuhay ang JRU!!!
-------get your source clear...Ramon Fernandez was not from JRU..
Career
Fernandez was a graduate of the University of San Carlos in Cebu and was a member of several national teams, which include the 1973 Asian Basketball Confederation championship team.
In 1975, Fernandez joined the powerhouse Toyota team in the PBA, joining Robert Jaworski, Francis Arnáiz, Arnie Tuadles, Danny Florencio and Abe King when they won nine titles from 1975-1983. Fernandez was the 1982 PBA Most Valuable Player, the only time he achieved the award during his days with the fabled team.
After Toyota's disbandment in 1984, Fernandez and several former Toyota teammates joined Beer Hausen. The move also further ignited a much-publicized feud with former teammate Jaworski. Fernandez won the 1984 MVP award during his first season with the Lucio Tan-owned franchise, but never led the team to the championship until he was shipped in the middle of the 1985 season to Tanduay for Abet Guidaben.
From 1986-1987, Fernandez along with former Crispa rivals Freddie Hubalde and Padim Israel, J.B. Yango, Willie Generalao, Onchie Dela Cruz and imports Rob Williams, Andre McKoy and later, David Thirdkill, led the Rhum Masters to three PBA titles. Fernandez won his third MVP award in 1986.

Based on the election campaign I had back then, he graduated at Jose Rizal College (now JRU). He took up BCS and from what I have known he finished it during the early 80's. He ran in the 1995 national elections for Senator under Danding Cojuangco's Nationalist Peoples Coalition (NPC) together with Bongbong Marcos.
I also saw a magazine when I was still in college that he graduated from JRC. Other basketball players included are Yves Dignadice (DLSU), Hector Calma (Adamson), Samboy Lim (Letran), Allan Caidic (UE), Alvin Patrimonio (MIT), etc.

In the Far Eastern Games in 1923, JRU Alumni Luis “Lou” Salvador Sr. scored the Philippines’ and the Far Eastern Games all-time record for the most points scored by a player in a single game. He scored 116 points to lead the Philippines beat China and recapture the gold medal.
Far Eastern Games is the precursor of Asian Games.

Note: Lou Salvador Sr. is the grandfather of Actress Maja Salvador and Father of Philip Salvador. Became an Actor after his retirement from the basketball.
