View Full Version : DLSU or UP for Graduate Program in Chemical Engineering
My friend from Malaysia would like to take up graduate level. Chemical Engineering (Masters and Phd) in the Philippines and he's considering DLSU or UP but can't really decide between the two. If you were to advise him, which school would you recommend? Which school do you think has the better masteral and doctorate programs for Chemical Eng? Need objective advice here please. Thanks.

Both UP and DLSU are somewhat respectable names in Malaysia so this is a little hard to knock. I would personally go to UP though because of its branding – the best brand name is Philippine academia. But since he’s not me, this is what I can tell him.
If he's after of the quality of the program, it's about the same. UP has probably more academic rigour but DLSU has got a little better facility.
UP faculty are all good and most of them have international exposures. But the bulk of DLSU's faculty are UP graduates with lots of have international exposures too. So it evens out the minor difference.
When it comes to brand name recognition in Malaysia, UP has an edge. There’s relly no question about that. But DLSU's recent membership to the ASEAN University Network closes the gap. But I would give this to UP.
Now, I think this has to come down to fit. If he likes the crowded and polluted area of Taft, DLSU would be a better fit for him. Otherwise, he should go to UP.
