Technically, this thread should've been posted at the Arts and Literature forum.

But then, my picks are Men's Vogue and GQ.

For local, Men's Health. ;)

I've been reading Metro Him for I don't know how long and switched to Men's Health, mas informative kasi ang Men's Health with everything. Metro Him seems to focus only on the fashion trends.

No offense to anyone, but I have paper fetish. (I guess it comes with the job.) Kelangan uber ganda ng paper and binding to keep me reading and flipping through the magazine.

That's why I stopped reading PeopleAsia coz its paper and pages suck.

And the same goes with Metro HIM.

Men's Health and Manual for me.

I don't buy intl magazines like GQ and Details kasi bukod sa mahal, mas okay yung Philippine yung setting.

Maganda din ba ang fashon sa Men's Health? Im planning to get a subscription para maka menos.

mysticpaladin
Dec 28, 2007, 12:38 AM
^ Yeah. I like the fashions of Men's Health. But they only have about 10 pages per issue dedicated to men's fashion. If you're looking for a extensive style coverage like GQ or Details, you won't find it in Men's Health.

Regardless, maganda pa rin yung magazine as a whole. This is what I mean by hindi hilaw na magazine.

Dec 28, 2007, 03:31 AM
I have a subscription for GQ and while it's not bad, I probably won't renew my subscription and just subscribe with Details instead. Too bad Cargo is now kaput. That was a really good magazine.

ako manual and mens health kaso mas trip ko bilhin ngayon yung mens health kasi madaming tips at mas magagandang articles. Manual kasi eh nawawala na yung mga tips sa fashion, health at sports. Tapos kung ano anong topics kakonyohan ang nilalagay as of late. Parang nagiging womens magazine na eh.

Chalk was a great buy when the magazine still came bundled with a behind-the-scenes CD. Little did they know that they'd start a trend that many magazines will do now: Extra content that wouldn't fit inside an issue.

At any rate, I graduated early in my Chalk-buying years. I think I stopped after the 7th issue.

There was a short lived magazine called MH-18 that focused on teen guys. I think it was from the same people behind Men's Health.

I just remembered, Nylon Guys is for teen guys. There's constant coverage of sneakers, jeans, and hoodies. But the magazine isn't a monthly. It only comes out twice a year.

Candy, Seventeen and all the other local titles have zero content for guys. So don't waste your money. :) Bilang lang talaga ang magazines for guys, moreso for the teenage market.

JENSIE_G

^ I think in this day and age, more and more teens ideally think (and dress) like grown-ups. You must not box yourself as a 'teen', per se. After all, I don't really see a significant difference been teen and grown-up dressing/styling (for men, to say the least).

So in this regard, you may find Men's Health, GQ, or Details helpful.

CHALK, I believe, now targets female college students. So this likely covers the 17-24 age bracket.

You can buy back issues of Wallpaper at most magazine stores. They don't do it on a regular basis, though.

I ask friends from the US to buy the magazines and ship them to me. Or have another friend flying to the PI bring it with them.

It's hard to find back issues of the said magazines, tell you the truth. Check out CV Magazines at the ground floor of Landmark in Makati. That's where I sometimes get lucky with the magazines.

These magazines are hardly available in Manila. All though I got a back issue of Numero homme months ago.

Yeah such magazines I try to hoard if I see them on my excursions :)

And I guess you're well aware of the fact that magazine distributors here carry chiefly the US versions because they sell to the masses. Everyone knows about them. The UK mags also come in but doesn't have a very big following... what more the French & Italian publications? Depressing

Sad reality is that magazines here are double the price if not triple quadruple... in short overrrrr priced.

I agree! I love magazines so much to a point that I hoard them that I'm considering moving out of the country so that I get such magazines regularly! Try Singapore! I hoarded magazines there before cos the magazines aren't as overpriced as in here. Plus their local magazines are also okay. When I say okay passable (50% better than the mediocrity of metrohim and manual)...

Well that's just my opinion. So, in this way no one takes my word seriously!:D

Haven't seen any. All those that I've been getting lately are women's like 10, Another Magazine, V, and Vs Magazine.

Try ur luck! haha but I'm sure if they have the price tag would be 300-550, ryt? Esp. at CV!

Well try visiting international fashion forums. Some people scan the editorials and post it there! haha at least in that way you'll feel closer to the commotions in fashion.

How bout Dansk? have u tried reading one? It's easier to find. It's technically a women's mag but has a section for men's so I'd say it's a unisex magazine.

Men's No-No is also a great magazine. You can get back issues of it at one of the stores in Archaeology in Power Plant. Forgot which one though. Warning: It's pricey--P1,500 for a freaking back issue? Forget it.

One time at Swiss Air, I came from the economy and barged by way to business class just to get magazines! Lotsa nice fashion magazines but they were in Deutsch (but still incroyable!). No wonder, the people were staring at me. Grab your chance! I did.

I also stole at least 2 Japanese fashion mags from Thai airways!

There's also this great Danish fashion & culture magazine called COVER! I love it sooooo much but I only have 1 copy!

Anyways I found a solution to our problem related with magazines.
So, here goes:

IF there is a lucky soul going to Munich suck up to that person or if you are going there then you are one heck of a lucky ******* cos there is a store there called SODA BOOKS.

They carry all the fashion bibles from Fantastic Man to Numero homme to Dazed & Confused to Mode to Dansk to all the Vogues there is. They even have Japanese magazines there.

Their site is www.sodabooks.com but the site's not updated though!

Go there. Go to Munich for the summer haha.

I've heard that in London you could also check stores like Zwemmers and Magma (just eavesdropped) haha.

Barnes & Noble in the US stocks a lot of foreign magazines, including Numero, Arena Homme, Mixte, and Vogue Hommes International. Markup is considerable, though. AH+ sells for $13 the last time I visited one.

Seriously, though, how much men's fashion magazines could a guy realistically handle in just one season? I work in the industry and yet I only buy 1-2 biannuals.

You guys don't have to answer my question. :)

I needed a May 2007 issue of Vanity Fair coz it was their 'Green Issue' and back then I was working on WWF. The lady on the other line shared na Vanity Fair daw "never nagkaka-back issues coz ubos daw lagi" every month. Hmm ...

I've been around din in different ad agencies na rin and I noticed there's always a copy of Vanity Fair piled up beside tons of advertising magazines. :) Hindi pwedeng wala. Hmm. Just shared my observation.

I think VF's appeal is the fact that it's not really meant for the casual reader. Despite the celebrity reportage, the articles talk about serious topics: politics, the environment, even the global economy. It's kind of like a more easily readable Time Magazine or Conde Nast Portfolio.

I'm raving about Stockholm Fashion Week! haha

but for Paris hmmmm, I'd say Austrian designer Ute Ploier, Korean designer Juun J., Romain Kremmer, and Danish wunderkind Henrik Vibskov. Bernard Willhelm's dance-inspired collection also spoke to me. It said "Rudolf Nureyev." It's not exactly wearable but it's just beautiful haha.

Haha I'm doing my review on Paris FW right now in my blog haha.
