I think trends are observed through seasons and not by the year.

Since spring is the upcoming season, then brights, florals and hot hues will be the trend of the moment.

Here's my blog entry the other day..

______________________________________________________
Im just so lucky that I have my mom who knows how to make clothes, (and absolutely good at that!), that I need not worry about bumping into someone wearing the same clothes and style I am wearing.

I know I have a gift and eye in fashion! (well I would like to think that way..) Before the year ends, I was thinking which new styles would be in for this year. And my guesses are right! Hah! Don't you think I would make a great career for writing for a fashion mag..? or be a model..? Isn't it nice to be like the Olsen twins? or those fashion models? Whose style is always being monitored by those flashing cameras, and be everyone's fashion icon..? Hmm.. But that would take out my license of privacy and bad hair days. So I guess I shouldn't be having this conversation in my head. Maybe I would just pursue my career in accessory making..

Ok, for the record, I don't want to be tagged as fashionista (although my friends, esp College friends like to use such adjective in their testimonials in my friendster account). I would like to think I am more of stylish. I dont follow trends, and never wear trends all the same time! I just love mixing and matching! And I personally love to invest on classics, but I do keep a collection of nice accessories which I can use to update my wardrobe.

Here are the items and style I think would be in this year, or should I say I would want to add on my wardrobe:

* MULTIPLE PENDANT NECKLACE (CHOKER TYPE) Ditch the long necklaces! Or update them with multiple pendants. Classic, vintage look. Think of cameo, crucifix (if i can wear one!), precious stones, pearl, lockets hanging in your neck, with a plain top or dresses.

* PLAIDS or CHECKERED I love the cowboy look! and the plaid print tube dress.. that would be my mom's next assignment.

* MINI DRESSES Just shift dresses, and straight cut. Say bu-bye to baby dresses! I love the senepa type cloth. But we cant find one in Tutuban and Divisoria.

* RED DRESS So sexy and pair it up with black pumps. Reverse the Little Black Dress and Red Shoes combo. But now, I am convincing my mom to make me a plain dress in Royal Blue.

Well.. that's all I am thinking right now.. I guess I need to do closet cleaning to make room for my new stuff.
_________________________________________________________

For the dress, I would like the bloomer-type sleeves.. :)

Patay tayo dyan sa mga autstic na PETA members.

Kung may snow lang dito sa PI araw araw naka fur ako ala Daddy Yankee :P

Di pa mawawala sa uso mga High class slippers. Dami paring bumibili. Pero ako, never ako bumili ng Havaianas. Waste of money.

Sasayang nalang ako ng pera sa t-shirts. :P

Sa hip-hop clothing parang mauuso ang plaid na button down shirts...ewan ko lang ha. for me it's baduy yung mga oversized na button-down shirts.

Try mo yung Sanuk. Yun ang uso/nauso ata.

Never ako and never will buy Havaianas. Over price kasi masyado eh. I can't stomach 1k+ for a pair of slippers. I can buy expensive t-shirts $150 up... but not for slippers.

skinny jeans for guys, will they still be "in" for '08? ü

when i go to malls like trinoma, ang daming naka-skinnies saka 'yung chains na kinkabit sa sides ng jeans pinapauso uli. for me okay ang skinnies as long as carry, pero 'yung chains, nababaduyan ako, nauso na 'to dati.

I can't wait for skinny jeans on guys to die. And I hope it happens this year.
But considering how late adopters Philippine retailers are when it comes to global trends, I won't be surprised if skinny jeans would still be shoved up our throats.

I just love the plaid and cowboy look. It has always been there and I always am buying a piece of it each time even if not in season :)

Speaking of AX, the colors are always fab - the blue, the yellow, the red, and the violet. It's just pricey for the material used - if not, I would have jumped on it.

For the love of God, please kill the skinnies

Flannels have been a staple for FW season for the past few years.

I would say maybe an influx of waxed/coated denim should be in line for 08.

For the summer, expect to see a lot of chinos, maybe slim-cut ones. Agree also with the boat shoes, some people prefer Sperry's but personally I want to rock a pair of Hockneys by Visvim

i never followed the skinny jeans trend. i feel it doesn't compliment most body types. bagay lang siya sa mga tulad ni giselle bundchen, super tangkad and super payat.

like the bohemian/gypsy look, im sure skinny jeans will die a natural death (and i hope soon).

i think okay lang ang folded pants/jeans, basta wag lang i-fold to the point na parang bitin na yung pants.

about the "nerd" look for men (v-neck sweater or cardigan over a collared shirt), parang na-u-uso na nga yata. di nga lang practical pag hot weather.

Fashion forecast this year (from http://www.shopcrazy.com.ph/)...

Based on runway shows for Spring/Summer 2008, here’s a quick list of what’s to expect in the ever-changing world of fashion.

What’s hot:

1. Grecian. Wear anything drapey, in jersey, as a top or a dress, This look is great for day or night. Pair with strappy gladiator sandals, or high heels for evening.

2. Booties. Boots that are cut to the ankles– high-heeled or flats, lacedup or buckled, even the open-toed variety, some are mutated to look like strappy sandals that come up to the ankles. Basically, any shoe that buckles or zips up to the ankles.

3. Gladiator sandals–flats or the heeled variety, the more straps, the better.

4. Color! Color! Color! For this Spring/summer, colors are worn in the most unexpected combinations. Not just with accessories, but full ensembles and different prints. Some of the Hot colors for ‘08: Yellow, orange, purple, cobalt blue.

5. Hair accessory: headband look–wide or multiple skinny straps. You may style it with or without bangs. use plastic, elastic, fabric/scarf.

6. Maxi-dress for casual days or evening occasions. They tend to hide body flaws, while showing off the right curves. For formal parties, forego the satin gown and instead make a dramatic entrance with a flowy maxi-dress.

7. Wide-legged trousers

8. Waisted skirts. The 50s look was a popular trend in many of the shows. It’s not the the full circle skirt for boogie dancing, but still high-waisted that swing with movement, cinched with a belt.

9. Florals

10. Bangles/Cuffs — not piled-on as the previous year’s, but this time, a single big cuff or bangle will do. Embellished, carved, bejewelled, wired, etc– the wider the better.

11. Metallics continue to be hot for Spring/Summer 2008.12. See-through – tops, jackets, dresses, skirts, even pants! The trick is in layering.Other spring/summer staples will be in for sure: whites and shorts, for instance.

12. Color-block — this trend together with other graphic prints will continue to be popular.

13. Mini-dress — the 60’s cute minidress is still a hot item.

14. Skinny jeans –as long as models are seen wearing them backstage, they are here to stay.

TIRED TRENDS:

1. Leggings — finally, there's not a single pair of leggings in any of the major fashion designer shows. After 2 to 3 years in the limelight, it is finally time to give this garment a rest.

2. Grey – grey will never be really out, but since it was such a major trend last Fall ‘07, you may give it a rest for now, unless you pair it with something really bright or printed.

i dislike following trends. Ano yun, you always have to wait for someone "COOL" to wear something and then bham! it's "IN". I guess having style is better.

trend vs. style: Paris Hilton vs. Cameron Diaz (or Jen Aniston)

It's ok to be trendy if you think the trend is stylish or at least, looks good on you. But if you're just gonna wear it because that's what everone's wearing.. hala naman.

Yup, streetwear has always been about slight loose fitting gear, but the difference is that the streetwear group is older now, particularly in the Japanese market, skaters, djs and graf heads are heading into or are already in their 30s and looking for a more mature look, thus the emergence of SophNet/Uniform Experiment, Headporter+Plus and Visvim and why Dior(particularly Homme) and Comme Des Garcons have been quite a hit among the youth the past 2 years. And the rest of the world? 5 years late.

Okay, maybe not 5 years, but they are still ahead by at least 2 years, you can buy clothes but you cant buy style yeah? Plus what they do there don't catch on until much later on, even if you had the means to buy the gear. Like the whole clean/basic phase coupled with Vans phase that has swept the world, it has been done by the Japanese when the kids were hyping on all-over prints and dunk SBz.

Agreed, hi-top like Lanvin and Common Projects are hot items for men's shoes. Never got into em that thou.

In Europe, they've beeen introducing high waist trousers for men but I doubt a great deal of guys will follow this trend for Spring-Summer 2008.

Sorry but those aren't even high waisted pants. It's just regular waist covered by an accessory.

i was actually talking about the exchange of ideas and styles ... but street wear is everywhere i dont think japanese streetwear is the ultimate authority on style and trend ... every culture and society has their own scene ... LA has the skate culture w/c japanese kids have co-opted, NYC have the graff, hiphop and punk collabo which again the japanese kids have taken as their own .. London kids have their own goth, neu rave look .. w/c is again being used by japanese kids .... if anything the japanese are known for their being open minded to try new looks which they find stylish ... more an adaptability factor more than anything .. im not trying to start an argument here, more of a discussion.. thanks

same here, my bad if I came across argumentative.

I think that what most japanese do is to add a different twist to whatever culture they adapt too and making it something their own and still paying homage to the original idea.

It's interesting how the 'scene' from these cities have a big influence on trends, however I've wondered why other cities like Manila or Singapore, don't have much impact on international trends, is it because the scene is still young/not developed enough? does it even exist? or is it the bigger cities are just more culturally diverse that they are able to develop their own culture?

i agree with the japanese flair in fact id take it a whole step further .. jeans for example, they take the original levi's looms, experiment on the best way to make denim and come up with arguably the best denim out there .. japanese premium denim like evisu, samurai, sugarcane etc are some of the best in the world and maybe even the most authentic ones out there ... japanese people tend to do a better version than the original ..

re the 'scene' i think manila and singapore street wear is still in its infancy .. i remember in college everybody wore the same polo shirts, rrl jeans, and polo big lugs .... something like herd mentality ... im not in the country right now so i cant say for certain how fashion and street wear has evolved.. but i think eventually manila will develop its own style

My bad. I overlooked. These are cummerbunds. I kinda lost my files on the high waist thingy. Will post the images if I find them.

No to argue with anyone here. I just want to air out my opinion.

In manila if you dress just a tad different from what is the "norm" your not considered stylish. You'd be more considered crazy as if you insulted the one who saw you by "donnig" that look. From my observation the fashion norm here is what people see the local shows/celebs showcase.

A good example would be them BAPE hoodies. I once asked someone at school who was wearing one.

me: "San mo nalaman yung brand na BAPE? Hip-hop fan ka ba?"

random bloke: "hindi napanood ko sa PBB suot ng isang housemate tapos may nakita ako sa market market na may kaparehas ang design so I thought cool sya. And hindi Emo ang gusto kong music"

me: "ahh ganun ba. sensya na ha akala ko kasi hip-hop fan ka kasi BAPE kadalasan ay hip-hop na brand. Anyway nice chat I have to go now see you arround mate."

I wouldn't want to generalize but most of the time this is the case. Unless a hit show from ABS/GMA hire a "real" stylist who has a better sense of style or creativity, I don't see manila being a nice place to see good "streetwear".

Look at what the fashion week is displaying.

That's what will be in trend for the remainder of the year.

Shots of loud and bold colors, safari look, coats and layers.

Casual Cool from He by Mango would be a sure hit. I just hope their menswear collection would reach Manila. eeeek

It's not because you're in casual means you can't look presentable. haha

hhhmmm.. I dunno since here in manila it's soooo hot... I prefer wearing dress and skirts I only wear long pants sometimes. And yeah.. I noticed that if ur not wearing the "uniform" (pants and a plain top) people are gonna be looking at you like ur an alien or somethin.... I can't wear the clothes that I had when I was not here... :(

thats why i say manila isnt a fashion forward spot .. people who dare to be difft are made to feel like they have a 2nd head or something .. its a sheep mentality.. disturbing the status quo is a no no....

I did not go inside when I saw their stores. :)

I like the first set of pants with suspendeers. (top left) What I don't like is the cuffed style. It is too high and semi-stupid looking (to me). I also like the military shirt.

This would be a nice outfit for spring- the ever trusty white shirt, a gray blazer, white sneakers...

Smart casual is really more of my thing.

Due to the recent fashion weeks and the redundance of that peculiar hat... fashion brings back a popular culture icon as a some sort of a fashion icon, Charlie Chaplin.

http://feber.se/article_images/46/81/1/46811_450.jpg

I think the look is cool if done right. Very gentlemanly but I doubt wearing layers of vestments made out of wool, lined with a little silk, etc. would be a good thing to sport under the intense sun mixed with the humidity here in Manila...

Plaids are also irresistible as long as you don't make them look like your old school uniform when u wear 'em haha.

Almost all the labels did plaid for AW 2008 haha.
