Both are good choice of courses. Pero since biased ako,sa Faculty of Pharmacy ka nalang :D
There's a similar thread regarding Micro before e... Maybe you can browse the other pages... ;)

**I am not a Microbio or a Phar major.. hehe
If you're going to take Medicine, Pharmacy (for me) is the better pre-med course. *okay* UST Pharmacy has a very very good program, it's competitive curriculum is handled by the best academicians in the field. Thomasian Pharmacists always get the highest percentage in the board examinations (>90% of 250 takers) and they also get the top spots - no hullaboos and that's for sure. UST Pharmacy is the oldest in the country and it's under , the Faculty of Pharmacy, one of the best-handled colleges in the university
Pharmacy also has a couple of math subjects (not elective). It includes Algebra, Trigonometry, Physics, and Calculus, not to mention the Analytical Chemistry subjects. In short, you have to be good in both science and math!
Thomasian Pharmacy students, most of the time, take their on-the-job trainings in Mercury Drug and other leading pharmacies. The Mercury Drug, after all, has its roots from a Thomasian Pharmacist.
Nonetheless, Microbio is also good. Many of my colleagues in UST Medicine are from UST Microbio. I dunno much about Microbiology. I graduated a Medical Technologist and from the way I see it, more or less, the subjects in Microbio aren't far from what MedTech have. The difference is, MedTech is clinical or hospital-based while Microbio is more of a research-type field. As early as first year as a Microbiology student, you'll spend most of your time looking under the microscope. The bulk of the course may be focused on studying the differences of the microorganisms morphologically, chemically and clinically. Microbiology is under the College of Science, just like the Faculty of Pharmacy, is enjoying an innovative curriculum.
Both courses hold units in Spanish, Theology, Physical Education, and Rizal Course.
Anyway, you'll be in the best and most caring hands whatever path you'll take - the University of Santo Tomas.
GO USTe!

^ UST is a good school and all, but...
UP consistently gets 100% passing rate in the boards. I don't recall anyone not passing in the last five years. There's even a running joke that the first one to fail will get a monument to his name.
There was a time when the top 20 was exclusively from UP. Check your facts. ;)

^ You're going off topic, faaip. I am very much aware of UP Manila's performance in the Pharmacy boards, but I think the thread starter isn't interested about the monument stuff.. tsk tsk.
The thread starter was just asking about UST Microbio and UST Pharma - haayyy.... tsk tsk.

depends on what you want for your future. Its not the level of difficulty. Do you want a career as a pharmacist or microbiologist?

Pampi: Hindi off-topic si faaip. He is merely correcting your above statement that UST Pharm consistently gets the highest percentage in the board exams. That distinction still belongs to U.P.

The thing is... no one is talking or asking or interested about UP Manila's performance in the Pharmacy Licensure. If UPM's program has that distinction - well and good, props to UPM. Actually, I know very well how UP students sweep the majority of the board examinations, no need to exclaim on that point. After all, it was not the inquiry of our thread starter, who seems to want his future be planned in the Thomasian way.

whatever pampi1010.
hindi off topic si faaip no.
helow. ikaw nga 'tong mali-mali ang facts eh., buti nga me may gana pang mag correct sayo.
not a good rebuttal.

I have some classmates here in UP na nung nag-take sila ng USTET, first choice nila ang Nursing tapos 2nd ang Pharmacy. Passed sila sa both courses.
Anyway, hindi ako taga-UST pero I took up a Microbiology subject last sem. And I can say na enjoy siya, super. :) Maraming Chem ang Pharmacy, and ok lang sana yun if it weren't for the equally considerable number of Math subjects. I hate math kasi. :P

here's the catch pag nagmicrobio ka... pwede kang mag medisina or pwede kang mag aral ng 2 years ulit at maging isang med. tech.... seryoso....

I know kapag 2nd choice mo ay Faculty of Pharmacy, automatic na Waitlisted ka or Failed, ganun nakita ko noon enrollment.

pampi1010 is not at all out of contention, or as someone here claimed, not a good rebuttal. He just stated facts about UST's Pharmacy and Microbiology programs, since that was the thread starter's concern. About USTe's board performance, pampi1010 just failed to mention that UST aces the board under its respective category (I guess you people are aware of number of takers vs the number of passers etc).
Yun lang naman, walang kailangang palakihin.
As for chubebang16, both courses are highly competitive as far as UST Science and Pharmacy are concerned. But if you have plans of pursuing Medicine, choose Pharmacy. ;)

Wala lang, I'm just pointing out what seems to be an exception of some sort. Nakita ko kasi yung mismong letters nila and Passed nga sila kahit Pharmacy 2nd choice nila.

Hi there:D I just saw your thread kanina :D Well, I'm a Microbiology student at the University of Santo Tomas. :D To help you with your question. Pero to give you backgrounds about micro, sa name pa lang alam na, we deal with microorganisms which includes... bacteria, viruses, algae, fungi and so on. We are trying to culture them, to know their environment, purposes and uses. Some may think that Microbiology is boring and all that, but I'm telling you now that that is a big NOOO!!!
I know this message is too late, since enrollment for first years is on going but if ever you've decided to take microbiology we will be glad. And I'll welcome you as early as now. XD
We are few na lang sa micro, yung iba kasi umaalis, nahihirapan daw kasi. 2 schools lang ang nagooffer B.S. Micro na course sa buong Philippines, UPLB at UST. Since onti lang tau, special ang Micro, mas madami opportunities. Pwede kang magpursue ng medicine or mag take ng masteral then doctorate degree. In demand din ang microbiology worldwide.
I hope this information will help you.XD
Goodluck
