Does anybody know any GOOD Filipino Restaurants in the States? I'll go to Orange County in California to visit my relatives there. I may miss Fil. food so can anyone recommend any good Filipino restos there?

If you'll be in Orange County, there's a Filipino restaurant in Tustin called "Mangga Grill". If you want Goldilocks, Red Ribbon and the like, you can drive to Cerritos which is not that far away from OC. In Cerritos, you'll feel very much at home, there are lots of Filipinos and Fil. restaurants there. You definitely won't be homesick :).
Btw, which city in Orange County will you be staying?

And if u'll b nwhere near LA - Jeepney Grill, Original Barrio Fiesta & Max's (made-2-order type), DJ's Bibingkahan & Bahay Kubo (turo-turo) - may Goldilocks, Red Ribbon din - at marami pang iba - di ka magugutom, 'ne? :)
Baka gusto mo ring maki-EB?

nasa orange lang ako last thanksgiving. first time ko there, so my relatives took me to this place called point-point.(as in turo-turo:D) ok lang naman, typical home-cooked filipino food:) (some friendly advice; don't try the kalderetang kambing, eewww!!!) and there's this place daw where the best crispypata can be found, but i didn't get to try it, the place was closed:( there's also kapit-bahay, or something like that, which has the best adobo daw, my tito says. it's better to order take-out at this place. saw some unscrupulous-looking people at this place. hope this helped!

There's this place in the SF Mission area called Superstar. It's a really small place and I'm not sure if it would be considered really good but it is SOOOO popular amongst the Filipinos here....and it's not even owned by Filipinos! They sell cheap ___-silogs (only $2-4) and it's so worth it! If you happen to ever go there, they also have a new Goldilocks pretty close by (besides the older one in San Mateo).
There's also this other place located in the Westlake Shopping Center vicinity (near Radio Shack) called Three Star (it's not owned by Filipinos either). Their garlic rice and inihaw na baboy is to die for! Everything else in their menu is pretty good too. :D

if you know how to cook, you'll find out that all the Filipino restaurants have lousy food. Kung galing kang Pilipinas, malalaman mo na ang ulam na binebenta dito sa Filipino restaurant marekado nga pero walang lasa. Kung hindi ka mahilig magluto, puwede na rin. You are better off with Chinese food.

genmadrigal ... there are quite a lot of good filipino restaurants in daly city and south san fran ... like Sinugba, Barrio Fiesta, Max's, and even this place called OngPin is quite popular here... but a suggestion from a food lover: try THAI food if you love filipino food... its almost the same, but thai food comes with a twist (especially if you're into exotic tasting dishes) ... :yum: :yum: here are some excellent thai places to try around SF and the bay area:
Bangkok Bay (redwood city), Thai House (redwood city, along el camino real), Marnee Thai (on Irvine and 22nd) ... these are my top three recommendations for scrumptious thai food ... then there's Siam Royal at downtown Palo Alto ... oh, and try going to santa monica boulevard (i was just there for new years :)) try their thai restaurant there as well... :yum: hehehehe.. obvious ba na i love food? :*)
... till when will you be at OC? ....

Where on Mission is Superstar? Near Goldilocks? Isn't Goldilocks on Westborough??
HotCandy: Barrio Fiesta moved to that one Plaza on Westborough... I forget which Grocery store it's near at... but it's near Sinugba, Tops and Ling Nam also.. There's a Barrio Fiesta in Milpitas
As far as Thai Food... in the East Bay, there's one in Newark called Ramaha Thai.. SJ Mercury actually recommends this and so does The Argus.. There's a new one at the Fremont Hub called My Thai.. they're good too

I'm telling you....Superstar is HELLLLA ghetto ..as in it's REALLY tiny and ish.. but yah...it's really, really popular with the Filipinos...maybe cuz it's near Balboa HS and cuz it's hella cheap. If you ever do go there though, I suggest ordering it to go cuz it's not recommended eating there.
Anyhoo, if you're at Geneva-Mission, go down Mission (towards downtown) around 2-4 blocks and you'll see a Safeway there. It's somewhere across Safeway -- you should be able to spot it (hopefully!). Their Tapsilog (tapa) and porkchopsilog (ask for the one they dip in crunchy batter, I forgot what it's called) are both hella good. Of course, Tosilog (tocino) and longganisa are good too, no doubt.
Goldilocks is sorta near Superstar..like further down Mission (towards Downtown) from Superstar around 3-5 blocks. It will be on your left side if you're driving. It's hella smaller than the one in San Mateo (Westborough?), though. They just opened it last year. :)

- Caligirl - :
... thanks for the info! :) i used to go to Bal, so i most probably know where Superstar is at.. and yeah, i agree that it's quite ghetto around that area so i might as well take the food to go ;) ...
... isn't Goldilocks at Westborough though?? just wondering... or did they open another one on Mission?
(oh, do you have any recommendations for Thai food... or italian in the dc or south san fran... or maybe even the silicon valley? if you have any favorites please do tell me :) thanks!)
f0r5aK3n :
...do you like food, too? hee hee :yum: thanks for the info about the thai places... i still yet have to try them.. the east bay is quite far from where i stay though... but i guess i will have to go and drive over there to taste the food... ;) there's one in SJ called Banana Leaf ... have you heard of it?
where in milpitas is the Barrio Fiesta at? is it somewhere near the Great Mall?
(singit: where are you from? :) oh, and if you know any more thai places... or italian... :bleh: )

HotCandy: Banana Leaf is in McCarthy Ranch I believe.. there's a good Italian place there too called Macaroni Grill. There aren't a lot of good Italian places here.. I mean not like Chicago or NY ...
To get to Barrio Fiesta in Milpitas, jez exit on Dixon Landing..
Caligurl, oh.. i remember where Superstar is.. I've been there, but I guess I didn't know that it was called Superstar at that time.. yah, it's hella small! we had to eat outside on the street....

I used to live in ANAHEIM, sa Crescent Ave. and if you're looking for Filipino Restaurant, there's one along that Ave, it's called "KAPITBAHAY" okey naman ang food nila at reasonable price din, meron din sa Lincoln Ave. 5 minutes away lang sa dati naming apartment. Goodluck!!!

Anaheimers I know: Sa Katoliko: The Vibals, Ramona Alon-Alon.... Sa Iglesia Ni Cristo: The Hipolitos, Sanciangcos and Carloses, Janice "Jen" Carlos, Ka Roy, Ka George, Ka Levy, Brother Manny, The Pretty Sanciangco Sisters Led by Leah, meron pa eh. Do u know them?

Cendrillon was well reviewed in a New York magazine (the New Yorker, I think) and Romy Dorotan (owner) appears to be pretty respected in the culinary business.

kadalasan kasi wala kang time magluto. Saka kung nag-iisa ka lang or dalawa lang kayo sa bahay, mas tipid kung sa labas na lang ikaw or kayo kakain. I love that chicken hearts with liver. Niluluto ko sa suka, toyo, garlic and lots of onions. Masarap din sa kaning lamig.

if u're cruising by utah (heaven forbid that you actually wanna visit!) they just opened a filipino restaurant. (i've been gnawing my fist for one to be put up here!) it's called sampaguita garden (named after me perhaps? hehe) haven't checked it out yet but it's bound to be delish!
as for thai food... i can just look at my hubby. he'll do. :D

cendrillon is not really filipino..it's more of filipino-asian fusion. i absolutely love their ukoy and i brought my white friends over there. i even saw brooke shields eating at cendrillon a few years ago. has anybody tried elvie's? it's more of turo-turo style near union square.
