... of course, Alumni Association!

Not sure if this can be considered. There's philimon, or PIMPS. :D Short for Philippine Internet Marketing Professionals. They talk about internet marketing, and they're helping shape and set standards for the internet industry here in the Philippines.

CaRaMBa, I'm interested in this org. How do I find out more about it? How does one go about joining if ever? :)

Take a look at PSI Seminars:

kahit hindi ka pa graduate.

aticus for now it's just a mailing list, but there have been offline activities already such as seminars. You can email philimon-subscribe@egroups.com to join. It's a cool mailing list.
And while we're at it, there's ph-cyberview@egroups.com (includes the movers and shakers of the internet industry) and itlawphil@egroups.com . Good mailing lists related to the internet. :)
But philimon is the only one with offline activities. I think it will be formally introduced early next year. :)

ilpadrino: saang club ng toastmaster ako sasali?

huy! sagutin nyo naman ako pipollllllllll
KuyaDanny
Jan 9, 2001, 10:42 AM
Ummmmm, ate denise, wala akong nakikitang tanong mo dito. ;)
ilpadrino
Jan 9, 2001, 01:36 PM
KuyaDanny, di kaya si denise & leelayce ay iisa? :)
Ma'am, pasensya na ikaw at ngayon ko lang nakita ang post mo. I'm no member but I've known about this club long before it reached our shores (I think). I have a Taiwanese friend who is a member and I believe that's what helped him hone his PR and leadership skills.
You can search the site for a club near you, but in case there's no club conveniently accessible from your location I think it would be a great idea then to start your own group. :)
Good luck!
leelayce
Jan 12, 2001, 12:06 PM
Nope, i don't have an alternick eh.
i already visited the site eh, kaya lang di ko ganon ka naintindihan. tulungan niyo naman ako
sige na kuyadanny and ilpadrino
kuyadanny: di ka naman nag-e-email back eh..
tulungan mo naman ako sa problema ko.
ilpadrino
Jan 13, 2001, 05:19 PM
Pareho tayong walang experience diyan, mas maganda siguro look for a chapter near you in the club locator, tapos kontakin mo yung leader nila, request for an appointment, bring 'em some tasty goodies and make the interview. :)
leelayce
Jan 14, 2001, 12:30 PM
ilpadrino: thanks na marami.
background check naman o, nag-post ka na b sa "who are the people in this neighbordhood?"
ilpadrino
Jan 14, 2001, 05:34 PM
Wala pong anuman, Miss leelayce :)
Nope, di pa ako nagpost doon. I'm just a trade school undergraduate with a few entrepreneurial experiences. And my dream is to be the Giorgetto Guigiaro or Pinin Farina of the Philippines :D I'm 28.

ilpradrino: saang field ka na nag-venture so far?
ilpadrino
Jan 15, 2001, 04:58 PM
Ako na yung ininterview mo ah, but I'm really flattered for the interest :) So where are the goodies? :D
I first ventured into amusements (swapping a few mountain bike parts for capital equipment) which later also involved coin-operated machine development.
A few years stint in small-time, international B2B e-commerce (the crude way) selling my own product. Biggest customer was Funco Inc. (SYMBOL: FNCO) based in the U.S. My product was a repair kit, which underwent a couple of revisions and were used to rectify a major design flaw in the CD mechanism of a popular video game console.
Some experience in small-time semiconductor & electronic device procurement, small merchandise imports and distribution.
Right now I also provide outsourced video game console and mobilephone repair services for nearby business establishments.
However, I really don't want to get stuck in any of these. Since I was 17, silly as it might seem what I really wanted was to be a car designer :D
leelayce
Jan 17, 2001, 11:34 AM
nagtatanong lang naman ako eh. sige na nga hindi na ako magtatanong.
masyadong pang-lalaki yang mga ginagawa/ginawa mo.
wow! car designer. GOOd luck!
email mo ako pag natupad na yan ha, para may kakilala akong car designer. wow!

I have never committed to any formal organization but I have helped and am willing to help those who need my assistance. I've worked with both social and technical events, and as of late with the online protest movement as well. Now I've recharged my socio-civic batteries and am looking for things to do and the right way to do it.

hello leelayce! i know of a toastmasters club in makati. they hold their seminars (dunno if i got the right term :)at the asian diner, along herrera st., legaspi village, makati. that's every wednesday, 7-9pm. i was invited long time ago by a former client to sit in, no charge, free dinner. you know, just check it out first and see for myself. if u decide to become a member, then that's when you pay yata.
anyways, im not sure if u can gate-crash without invitation, but i guess, no harm in trying... :)

Probably the best organization in which one could join would be in a civil society/ NGO or any interest group.
If you worked hard and is really interested in becoming a core of the group, you may even find your stable job in it.

It's really not that hard to be a member of MENSA. The test is a lot easier than most local college entrance tests. Check the webpage for test schedules and other details.
I've been an inactive member for almost two years now. My schedule doesn't permit me to participate in their activities. It does make my resume look good though. :D

leelayce, psst...I'm here, "watching" from the sidelines with amusement. ;)
So are you serious in applying for MENSA membership? Its members' backgrounds are quite varied. Usually, typical reason for joining is to be able to say "I'm a MENSA" member which implies you have at least the requisite IQ level. But I understand there's a significant number of inactive members. A good friend of mine is one of them. Tama na lang daw sa kanya na masabi nyang MENSA member siya!
As for other post-college organizations, and if you have the requisite background (work experience, achievements, standing in the community, etc) plus the endorsement of a member in good standing, there is the FINEX (Association of Financial Executives) as well as the Makati Business Club. Then there are the various Rotary organizations where you could be Rotary "Ann" (that's how they refer to the female members).
ilpadrino, ano naman sa mga posts ni leelayce ang nakakatirik ng iyong mga mata? Just wondering. :|

hello there, leelayce...:)
joining *toastmasters* will do wonders to your career and continuing self-development...
there are a lot of clubs you can join there...it is best to look for other clubs in which you will feel comfortable to join in...toastmasters clubs allow you to become guest for a while before you are asked to join...so if you feel you'll be *out-of-place* because of the age or generation gap, then continue your search...
it is best to join a club either near your home or your work place so you will reduce your travel time when attend the club meetings...
if you need any further info on the whats/hows of toastmasters, you can email me at OwEs115@hotmail.com...i'll be more than glad to narrow down your search for a suitable club for you...:)

For Ateneans, there are some interesting developments at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ateneogenx.
Closer to our virtual home, the PEx Clubs might be helpful, though the organized ones are not business-oriented. The Business Club, when established, might fulfill your needs.
Come to think of it, besides joining organized societies, joining them on a per-project basis is also viable.
I was active in the Junior Philippine Computer Society circa 1994, but I never did join the PCS.

alive pa pala 'tong thread na to ah. ;-) a number of you mentioned toastmasters. the coincidence is that i just started attending. i have't really joined. and true enough, puro nga gurang. ;-)
as for mensa, i didn't know it was an active org. i just figured it was an IQ determination org.
there's actually an organization of stock market analysts. for the life of me, i can't seem to remember the name of the group though.
