Hello Shipmate!

I'm in the reserve force-green side of the USNR, currently assigned to the 2/24 4th Marine Division as a Hospital Corpsman. Pinoys in the Marine and the Navy are really cool guys. Even yaong mga puti na marrried to Pinays are cool.
I just got back from the Navy exchange to have my last shopping, naku...ang daming Pinoys and I'm always glad to see our kababayans there doing their last shopping spree for the holidays.
3 months ago I just finished the Mountain Warfare and Mountain Medicine training in Bridgeport, CA. I had a blast. Being in the reserve force brings out the healing warrior in me.
Next AT will be in North Carolina.

Chicago Pinoy- Yeah, everytime we have a SOCEX with Force Recon, SEAL Teams, lagi akong may name-meet na Pinoy na Corpsman..they're ok and yung mga Kano na may asawang Pilipina...ok sila...kakatuwa...minsan bigla ka na lang i-ge greet ng "Hoy Pare!" Ikaw naman, parang "Huh?" nabigla hehe

Cali4nia - I'm seriously considering becoming an Officer and then maybe I can be a Liason Officer or something like that with the Phils... :)

I haven't been to NEX OCONUS. But I know for sure, NEX here in CONUS have great bargains. I got a SONY DVD 5-disc-changer for only $290 as compared to $490 in Sears or Best Buy.

hey! i'm glad to know that there are Navy people in the house!!! Anyway, I'm also a Hospital Corpsman -- Respiratory Therapist -- currently station in Okinawa, Japan. I just got back from leave in CONUS -- California. I went "window shopping" for some electronic items particulary HDTV and I'm quite surprise that there's more selections sa states. I hope that more Navy peeps will join us w/ this thread. Happy New Year to all of you.

You're right shipmate,

I won't get out of the US Navy force until I get commissioned. Even though I have 2 bachelor degrees in the medical field, they won't consider it since I graduated from our beloved country.
One of the qualifications before they honor an education degree in a medical field is that you need to be a graduate of an american institution.
I can go either in Medical Service Corps or Nurse Corps.
I am preparing for my masters here and hopefully next year I'll get my gold bar.

HOPEFULLY.

Gud Lak Mein! :)

Anong program ang ginamit mo? (BOOST, ECP, LDO, etc?)

ChicagoPinoy
Jan 9, 2001, 01:04 PM
I spoke with an Officer Recruiter and they will still evaluate whether I can make it in the commission even if I graduate in P.I. That was last year.
Since I'm going for my graduate studies, Nurse Anesthesia program I might get direct commission.

You know in the Navy, anything can happen. So let's see.

Let the journey begin.

I was in the Navy between 1988-1991. I went to boot camp in San Dog. A couple of months in racist Mississipi and I'm back in San Diego floating on an Amphib with 200 jarheads. Our boat docked on Tijuana pier on 32nd. I miss San Diego. I miss Point-Point Joint, Lourdes, etc.

When I came back home to San Francisco I went into the reserves. No offense to reservists out there, theres a lot of civilian clusterf***cks wearing the uniform and pretending to play military. They don't even know how to salute properly. Some of them never went to bootcamp. So I left when I got the chance. I'm sure glad they shut down that stupid Treasure Island. A lot are not as squared away as active duty and/or fleet sailors. However, there are also many former active duty guys in the reserves who still keep their military bearing. They're alright. Most of them.

I once told a reserve JAG officer that we are not suppossed to be part of a working party in our whites. Thats the policy I learned while on active duty. You only do manual work in dungarees or coveralls. This guy said he was going to try to boot me out of the military for thinking that. What a moron. Just goes to show, some of these guys don't know crap about the uniform their putting on.

Anyways, I miss the guys that I used to work with aboard the USS Peoria - LST 1183. My 1st class and 2nd class POs are both alcoholics so we used to go out and get hammered all the time. It was a lot of fun.

Yeah, hit him in the midsection with the UCMJ. Open it to the section about uniforms and shove it his face.

What kind of ship are you on? I was on a tank landing ship. Its kind of a taxi service for the marines. Its wide and its keel is shallow--shaped like a gator--so it rocks and rolls in rough seas. That's how I got the name crazy legs. A shipmate said I walk funny when the ship is rocking back and forth.

Anyway, I'm on an LPD...floating piece of beauty  actually, she's a fine ship....yung crew lang ang **** eh. Sometimes, I just can't stand those Marines. At one time, I was guiding an AAV in our Welldeck but the idiot wouldn't follow my directions. As a result, He got stuck between the Stern Gate and that little space before the actual deck. He got stuck for 15 minutes until we have to ballast the whole ship para magkaroon siya ng leverage...sa akin pa niya sinisisi dahil mali daw yung directions ko. Sira ba siya, nandun yung Captain nila, nagmamasid...yari siya tuloy.

Beer costs more outside the base. Kakainis nga eh. Sa Ropponggi naman, ang daming bars doon and they got a lot of "eye candy", so to speak. Be careful though. They are going to make sure that you'll spend alot of money in their bar. One tactic they employ is one of the girls will stay with you for the whole night and ask for a ladies' drink ($10-15) ....every let's say, 10-15 minutes? That's why I drink alone....

Back to PinoyExchange after the overwhelming ouster of erap...

First of all I am a reservist.
Reserve Officers with non prior military background attend a 2-3 week officer's training (in Rhode Island)same with the enlisted's Advance Paygrade Program (in Great lakes).
The US Navy opened this program because of their expertise and training in the civilian world.
The US Navy saved millions of dollars since these guys came aboard equipped with experience in their respective field.

Let us not be judgemental to reservists just because some are unsat in military decorum. I have met a lot of non prior military reservists who are better than the ones who attended a bootcamp.

Attending 9 weeks of bootcamp does not guarantee you will always be squared, prim and proper.

ChicagoPinoy,

I wasn't saying all reservists are bad. I was reffering to those who aren't squared away. I guess I was too hardcore coming from active duty to the reserves. The reserves felt more like a city hall job than a military one. Their too relaxed. In fact some of my former active duty shipmates in the reserves stopped giving a damn after a while.

You said that bootcamp does not guarantee that all sailors get their sh*t straight after 9 weeks. I'm sure all those who serve and has served as Company Commanders and/or support staff in bootcamp will have something say about that. It's their product your questioning.

No doubt the skills that guys like you bring into the military are valuable.

Yung G.I.

Filipinos in the Navy are the best! Always squared away (with a few exceptions)! I used to be an east coast sailor, but now in San Diego. 'Did two years in Yokosuka, and enjoyed the support of our filipino shipmates! What I liked most is WestPac! Walang sinabi ang Med cruise...

I'm in Westpac too but its Westpac in Japan. By next month, I'll celebrate my first year aniversary here in japan. Were on our way to Australia for another training with the marines and this time together with the Australian arm forces. It sucks because the we have more marines onboard than the ships crew and they don't do nothing onboard except eat and sleep and of course, work out! they're taking most of the spaces and we have to fall in line for chow because of them but it will be okey because will be in Brisbane and Mckay.

I was reading all the posts. To tell you guys, naiinggit ako sa inyo. I already talked to xyzseaman before and after reading a lot of info, I learned that only greencard holders or citizens can join the USN because of security clearance.

Im already 26, got 8 more years to get that elusive employer that will eventually sponsor my greencard. haaay, sometimes its frustrating. I want to enlist but the US Navy doesn't want me.

Buti pa ang citizens ng Republic of Marshall Islands and Federated States of Micronesia, pwede mag-enlist, after 1991, hindi na tayo puwede.

Yung G.I.

HOPEFULLY.
Good thing you're from chgo too, hehe, I'm just wondering if you can shed me a light here. So, since you're from the medical field. you may know more answer than these navys' sites wondering around. W/in a year, i should be getting my Master's in Health Admin from an accredited CAHME university. So, if I join and become medical service corp officer, how long do I need to sign--minimum? Also, I was searching and stated that if I was a prior military, I dont have to take the navys basic training. Ive served the U.S army. And, would they pay the rest of my school loan, even if they were from undergrad. Well, I said undergrad because ISAC, thats the IL free tuition for servicemen, didnt pay for my undergrad tuition, since I went to university of Chicago, a private uni. although, they're paying for my master's since Im taking it @ a state university, a publc unvsty

^ crazp anong rating mo? I was hoping I would be able to adjust status to that of an LPR next year via the H1B route. Once I get my GC, I was hoping I could enlist as an E-4, pero kung E-3 pwede na din, kaya lang I'll be turning 30 next year. If I didn't make it to the Navy by the age of 34, I am choosing between the Navy Reserve or the Active Army, pero gusto ko talaga Active Navy.
