Members of the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors Men’s and Women’s Fencing Teams display their medals and trophies following their successful conquest of the 2007 Inter-Club Fencing Championship in men and women divisions held recently at the SM Mega Mall and sponsored by the Philippine Amateur Fencing Association (PAFA) and Sports Central. In the men’s division, UAAP defending champion UE Men Fencers defeated their UST opponents, 60-52. In the women’s division, UE defeated ADMU, 60-52. COLLEGIATE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE (CCL) organizes and manages the COLLEGIATE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP annually. The tournament, now on its fifth year, is a yearly search for the best collegiate basketball team in the country and is considered as a fitting climax to the collegiate basketball season.

Last year’s winners were: Champion – University of the East Warriors; Runner-up – San Beda Red Lions; Third Place – Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers and Fourth Place – Mapua Cardinals.

PRIZES:

For 2007, Fil-Oil/Flying V is the main sponsor for the prizes to be awarded to the winning schools.

The winner of the Fil-Oil Flying V National Collegiate Champion Cup will have the distinction of being the best collegiate basketball team for the current season. The school represented by the Champion Team will also receive funding/scholarship support amounting to FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND Pesos (P500,000) for the benefit of the school’s sports program. The runner-up, third placer and fourth placer will receive funding/scholarship support amounting to TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND Pesos (P200,000), ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND Pesos (P100,000) and FIFTY THOUSAND (P50,000) respectively.

For 2007, Smart is the sponsor for special awards.

Special awards to be given to outstanding team and individual performances during the series are:

TECHNICAL OPERATIONS OF THE GAMES:

Mr. Chino Trinidad is the Commissioner of the Collegiate Champions League and together with his technical and support team will be responsible for all the operational and technical aspects of the tournament.

Players who are playing in the PBL will be allowed to play for their respective collegiate teams. The scheduling of both PBL and CCL games will consider this particular situation.

Only players who have been drafted in the professional league (PBA) may be replaced by a team. The replacement player, however, must be approved by the “mother league” of the concerned team.

All qualified teams are to submit their official line-up as approved/fielded during their respective league competitions. However, CCL reserves the right to disallow/disqualify players in the spirit of fair collegiate basketball competition as advocated by the League.


MEDIA COVERAGE:

CCL is in partnership with Solar Entertainment for the television coverage of the games. Part of the support being provided by Solar is the media promotion of the games thru television pluggings and inclusion of CCL stories in their sports update shows.

Guys, UE and DLSU will not participate in 2007 CCL. I got this information from multiply.

....let me explain why UE isn't joining the CCL..1st of all the CCL is now conjoined with Flying V ..i don't know if you're familiar with that group..but anyway.. my point is, the CCL is now under new management..and like we all know..new management means new rules and regulations right?..now..the new management of the CCL has ranked UE number 4th seed of 16 teams!..we are behind DLSU #1, Sanbeda #2, ADMU #3..the UE team and management questioned the CCL authorities why UE is ranked number 4 when we are the defending champions, and we are the 1st runner-up of the recently concluded UAAP..the CCL management couldn't give us a straight answer!..plus the fact that we defeated ADMU twice this season doesn't reserve their right to put UE behind ADMU!..ADMU isn't even a champion of any league in the 1st place!.thats 1 reason.
2nd of all..we found out why the new CCL management put UE at number 4th seed..its because they want to set-up an ADMU vs SanBeda finals!..because the management of the CCL is under Manny Pangilinan..the owner of Talk n Text and the manager of both ADMU and SanBeda!..do you see the point of this?..that would mean kahit sino sa dalawang team manalo..at least both teams are under Mr. Pangilinan..thats the reason!..therefore wala siyang talo!
3rd reason..is because the new rules made by the new management of the CCL allows players under residency to play in the league!..whereas last year the rule was.. kung sino line-up mo nung UAAP or NCAA..yun ang ilalaro mo..but now they changed it..for example..they are allowing Sanbeda to play another Nigerian player under residency to play in replace of Yousif Aljamal who is now playing for Talk n Text..thats b*llsh*t isn't it?..well of course they could allow that!..si Manny Pangilinan ang may-ari ng liga eh!..and to top it all off..the new rules state that both foreign players can play at same time in any given game!..thats another load of b*llsh*t!..its already unfair!..its like going up against imports!..whereas the rules last year state that only one foreign player could play at a time..they could not play at the same time..
Even DLSU backed out of the league..they sensed the b*llsh*t already even before it started!
so basically..what i'm saying is..UE is treated as a 3rd class citizen!..they show no respect for us..and really downgrade our school!..thats why the team and management decided to boycott the league to show that nobody does that to us!..we should have some pride in ourselves!..we are not 3rd class citizens and definitely should not be treated that way!.we stood our ground and made HUGE statement to the CCL...UE isn't joining unless they clean all that b*llsh*t they started in the first place!

Currently, UE Red Warriors have two Collegiate National Championship titles (2002-03 and 2006-07), four Fr. Martin Cup titles (1995, 1997, 2006, 2008) and three Home & Away Invitational League titles (2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08), but they still don't have any recent UAAP titles ... hope they could hook that title this coming season.
