PIOLO PASCUAL, born January 12, 1977, in Manila, Philippines, is a Filipino actor, singer, concert performer, host, product endorser, and model.

He is a member of ABS-CBN's elite circle of homegrown talents collectively known as Star Magic. His earliest acting experience was in the student theatrical group "Teatro Tomasino" of the University of Santo Tomas.

Pascual's early television credits include his stint as Kuya Miguel in ABS-CBN's educational show ATBP and as one of the many teen stars in GMA-7s musical variety show That's Entertainment. His first big break on the small screen came via a weekly primetime series entitled Sa Sandaling Kailangan Mo Ako (The Moment You Need Me), where he received an Asian TV Awards (1999) Best Drama Actor nomination for portraying the villain role of Raffy.

Pascual appeared briefly as Jussi Leino in The Vizconde Massacre (1991) directed by Carlo J. Caparas and had a supporting part in Batang PX (1997) directed by Jose Javier Reyes. His first big cinema break was the title role in Lagarista (2000) directed by Mel Chionglo where he received his first Gawad Urian nomination (Best Actor). Lagarista was exhibited in the Toronto, Pusan and Hongkong film festivals.

Pascual was paired with Judy Ann Santos towards the end of the daily primetime series Esperanza (1997-1999) and a quick succession of film and tv projects followed: Esperanza - The Movie (1999) where he received his first Metro Manila Film Festival and FAMAS nominations (Best Supporting Actor), Kahit Isang Saglit (2000), Sa Puso Ko Iingatan Ka (2001-2003), Bakit 'Di Totohanin (2001) and Till There Was You (2003). They reunited in 2006 in the movie Don't Give Up On Us and in the soap opera Sa Piling Mo.

In 2001, Pascual appeared in Mila directed by Joel Lamangan where he received his first Film Academy of the Philippines (Best Actor) for portraying Primo, the drug addict lover of schoolteacher Mila played by Maricel Soriano. He also headlined the Sprite commercial where a schoolgirl played by Toni Gonzaga could not help but scream "I love you, Piolo!" at the mere sight of him.

In 2002, Pascual played the pivotal role of Jules Bartolome opposite Vilma Santos and Christopher de Leon, in Dekada '70, which is a film based on Lualhati Bautista's novel of the same title about a family's struggle during the Marcos regime in the Philippines. He achieved a rare grand slam feat collecting a total of eight awards from all the existing award-giving bodies during the 2003 awards season in the Best Supporting Actor category starting with the Metro Manila Film Festival in December 2002 and culminating with the Gawad Urian in May 2003.

Since then, Pascual has released four albums for Star Records, mounted a solo concert at the Araneta Coliseum, performed outside the Philippines for The Filipino Channel, hosted ASAP, acted in the sitcom Bora with The Hunks, and endorsed Max's Restaurant, Timex watches, Selecta ice cream, Bench overhalued jeans, San Miguel coffee, and Banco de Oro. He also appeared in Mangarap Ka with Angelica Panganiban, Sa Piling Mo with Judy Ann Santos and Walang Kapalit with Claudine Barretto.

Since 2003, Pascual managed to finish one movie a year for Star Cinema starting with Till There Was You with Judy Ann Santos, Milan (2004) with Claudine Barretto, Dreamboy (2005) with Bea Alonzo, and Don't Give Up on Us (2006) with Judy Ann Santos. For Star Cinema and Viva Entertainment, he filmed Paano Kita Iibigin(2007) with Regine Velasquez.

On July 11, 2007, Pascual signed an exclusive three-picture contract deal with Star Cinema (Ms. Malou Santos and Ms. Mariolle Alberto, who represented Star Magic big boss Mr. Johnny Manahan, who manages the career of Piolo). Piolo will make for Star Cinema a romantic comedy with Toni Gonzaga. Pascual will be busy with his next album under Star Records and for his next concert at the Araneta Coliseum on November 30, 2007.

As of August 2007, his film with Toni Gonzaga is postponed, instead he will be paired in a romantic drama with the big star, Angel Locsin, GMA's price talent who recently moved to ABS-CBN. The film will be shot abroad.

He will also star with Angel Locsin in his first fantasy series TAONG LOBO or LA LOBA BLANCA (A White She-Wolf) written by Ricky Lee and directed by Cathy Grace Molina.

At the press preview of his new movie, "Chopsuey," to be shown on September 5, we ask Piolo Pascual if he’s really the first leading man of Angel Locsin now that she’s with ABS – CBN.
"No official notice yet, pero sana nga totoo," he says. "Nagkatrabaho na kami in three TV commercials at okay naman siya, so I’m sure I’ll enjoy working with her in a TV drama or a movie."

"Chopsuey" is the directorial debut of Piolo’s friend, Cathy Camarillo, a UP journalism graduate who’s an assistant director at ABS-CBN. Based on the script of Ome Avellanoza that won in the Film Development Foundation scriptwriting contest, it’s produced by Silangan Pictures and New Life Cinema.

"After I read the script, I fell in love with it and asked ABS management to read so they’d give their permission as I want to make good my promise to Cathy that I will be the lead actor in her first movie," adds Piolo.

The film, shot in digital format and blown up to 35 mm. in Hong Kong, is about Jimmy (Piolo), the eldest brother who took care of his three sisters Anette, Claire and Leslie (Andrea del Rosario, Dimples Romana and Krista Ranillo) after their parents died. At the start of the film, it’s Piolo’s birthday and his sisters has a cake for him but he won’t even open his door. He has locked himself up in his room for the past six months and it’s only later that we learn it’s because he got so depressed after his bride abandoned him on the altar. They’re Chinese and his bride chose to elope with her Filipino boyfriend.

The three sisters have their own problems. Andrea is an accomplished architect but a closet *** who wants to follow her girlfriend in Canada. Dimples is the oppressed wife of a boorish Chinese man who treats her like his personal housemaid (just like Kris Aquino’s role in "Mano Po 1"). Krista works in a call center and rebels against Chinese tradition by having a Pinoy for a boyfriend.

The film is well acted by the entire cast. Piolo gives a sensitive performance as the groom who keeps on putting on his tux even if his wedding fizzled out. Even more impressive are the actresses who play his sisters. Andrea is very credible as the repressed *** who satisfies herself in secret. Krista is also good as the rebellious youngest sister. But the one who gives the most touching portrayal is Dimples, the neglected wife who’s everyone’s doormat. How she gets even with her abusive husband is one of the film’s best highlights.

PLAYING PIOLO

He has played the role of the ultimate dreamboat in innumerable films and soaps. He has given justice to the role of villains and foes, quite a number of times. He even won a grand slam for his supporting role as an activist son in the critically acclaimed Dekada ’70, where he amassed a total of eight awards from the country’s award-giving bodies. However, no role will ever be as rich, as interesting and as complicated as the ones Piolo Pascual plays in real life.

THE ACTOR

This is perhaps Piolo’s most memorable role as a public figure. Millions of people have closely followed his career blossom, from merely being part of Judy Ann Santos’ many love teams, to becoming one of the most bankable and hottest leading men of today.

The hardworking actor was seen in last month’s box office sensation Paano Kita Iibigin, where he starred opposite Asia’s songbird, Regine Velasquez. Over at giant network ABS-CBN, he plays the role of a ‘lover-stepbrother’ in the top rating soap opera Walang Kapalit, opposite Claudine Barretto. Although he’s currently on top of the acting game, Piolo’s career as an actor wasn’t always peaches and cream. He ruefully recalls a moment when he seriously considered quitting showbiz, back when he was still taping Sa Sandaling Kailangan Mo Ako.

“It was my birthday. I haven’t slept for days and I have to cry then have a fight scene with Marvin Agustin all in one night… and as a neophyte, I wasn’t really getting paid much! That was when I asked myself, ‘Is it all worth it?’” Piolo recalls.

Fortunately, the answer was yes. That was when he realized that he loved his job and that he was more than willing to pay his dues. Today, he enjoys the success that most, if not all actors of his time, can only dream of. Despite successfully achieving A-List status in showbiz through accomplishing one achievement after another, Piolo remains firmly grounded.

“I never really see myself as someone who matters in this business, I just do what I enjoy doing,“ he says modestly.

THE SINGER

One of Piolo’s roles as an entertainer is that of a singer. The dashing actor- turned-singer swept even more women off their feet when he started hitting the right notes with ballads and love songs a few years ago. Piolo is pretty psyched about the release of the soundtrack to his movie Paano kita Iibigin. “It was like a dream come true, I’ve always wanted to make a soundtrack album for a movie I starred in,” he said.

Even though he’s had his fair share of platinum and gold record hits before, Piolo intends to explore the music industry even further and make his own mark in the near future, and he plans to do that by producing his very own album by November this year. “The album will consist of songs which are very close to my heart,” he said with a smile.

The music will be an “out-of-the-box” mixture of Christian songs, rock, ballad and pop. He also wrote the lyrics of some songs that will be included in the album. The very busy star was also all smiles when he disclosed that he will be having his first solo concert at the Araneta Coliseum this November, after finishing his tour in the United States.

THE CHRISTIAN

Unknown to many, Piolo secretly took on yet another challenging role in his life five years ago: that of a Christian.

“My life took a full turn when I established my relationship with God,” he said. For Piolo, being a Christian has helped him get through the challenges of life. He believes that having the right faith is the key to contentment and happiness, saying he wants to be “remembered as a man of God, a guy who stood for God and lived by faith”

So he does, and it seems that being grounded on his faith is paying off, since he has come to feel that he is more and more blessed everyday. “All I wanted at first was to have work and be recognized in what I do, but right now… I have to say that God has given me way more than what I have bargained for,” said Piolo.

He draws his strength from God, and this has helped him overcome the intrigues and scandals that have haunted him all throughout his career (like the persistent rumor questioning his gender preference, and his reported tiff with Judy Ann’s boyfriend Ryan Agoncillo).

THE BACHELOR

At 30, Piolo is one of the most eligible bachelors in town. He has a skyrocketing career and undeniably good looks, both of which surely make him a staple in every girl’s fantasy “who-to-marry” list.

However, the single and too-busy-to-date bachelor is in no rush to get into marriage. As far as he is concerned, he would like to take advantage of the blessings that his profession endows him right now. And if and when he finally decides to date, he would like to have ample time to enjoy it, and make the other person feel the same as well – something that is virtually impossible given his current schedule for the rest of the year.

“I believe that God is preparing me for someone, and that He’s preparing someone for me. It’ll happen in God’s time,” Piolo confidently said. Despite the absence of that “someone” in his life, Piolo admits that he is preparing himself for his eventual role as a husband. For instance, he just bought a property in Quezon City, which might just be the home he will share with his “future” wife. Piolo also admits that Regine Velasquez advised him to start building a house now. Though he doesn’t feel inclined to do so at the moment, the handsome actor nevertheless admitted that his future wife – whoever she may be – will be his inspiration.

THE FATHER

More than anything, the role that Piolo relishes most is that of a father to 10-year-old Iñigo, his son from a former girlfriend. He was with his son when news of his alleged sex video came out a year ago, and understandably, it is from these intrigues that he wishes to protect the boy. At first, he was hesitant to defend himself, but it was concern for his son that finally made him realize that he had to make a stand. A few days later, a crying Piolo furiously denied the allegations on national television. “I was trying not to cry, but it just saddened me that people would come up with something so untrue and below the belt,” the actor revealed.

Although Iñigo is in America right now, Piolo bridges the distance by talking to his son on the phone every day. It’s pretty obvious that he longs to spend more time with his child, recalling their favorite bonding moment – racing go karts at the Speedzone at the Fort. “I always want to share happy moments with my son, especially while he’s still young. I can never give him everything. All I can do is instill in him the right values, respect for the elderly and the right faith,” said Piolo, when asked what he wanted to achieve as a father. He also admitted that this is his way of mirroring the way his beloved parents (mom Amelia and father Philip Herzig, a half-German who passed away when Piolo was a teenager) have raised him.

The many roles he played onscreen have earned him the loyalty of his fans. The many songs he sang onstage have earned him admirers. However, what sets him apart is his faith in God, and the humility this brings him. Yet when the lights turn off and the curtains close, Piolo Pascual plays the most challenging role of all: that of Piolo the private individual – and one that he plays quite well.

When The Stars Gathered

The first annual Star Magic Ball held last August 5th at the ballroom Hotel Intercontinental in Makati proved to be a night of good food, fun and entertainment all dapper and elegant in their tuxedoes and long gowns. The grand event paid homage to the 15th year of the country’s premiere Talent Management and Development Center.

The night was graced by top-notch Star Magic artists like Piolo Pascual, Kristine Hermosa, John Lloyd Cruz, and Bea Alonzo. Also present were ABS-CBN Chairman and CEO Gabby Lopez, Station Manager Charo Santos-Concio, and Senior Consultant and Board Member Freddie Garcia.

With all these important people in the guest list, it is only necessary for everything to be extravagant. The event was organized by Keren Pascual and was supported by Bench and Bench Time, hence, Bench’s Ben Chan, Miguel Pastor ,and Bryan Lim Lucerne, and Bench Time’s Emerson and Lingling Yao and Ivan and Tessie Yao also graced the party. The ballroom of Hotel Intercontinental Manila was so beautifully dressed up mostly with white roses by Zenas Pineda. Guests were also treated to goodies from Bench fragrances and The Face Shop. Fashion designers such as Frederick Peralta, Rajo Laurel, Ivar Aseron, Louis Claparols, Jun Escario, Paul Cabral, Joey Samson, Francis Libiran, and Randy Ortiz, to name a few, designed the stylish outfits of some of the guests for the evening.

After a sumptuous dinner, Willie Revillame opened the entertainment for the night. The Wowowee host introduced the Jersey Boys number of Piolo Pascual, Diether Ocampo, John Lloyd Cruz, and Sam Milby. This was followed by a very hilarious yet alluring Pokwang doing a Shakira number which she peppered with her witty monologue right after. Sam Milby later introduced rockers Michael Manahan and Gian Sotto. The next was a tap dance with Bea Alonzo, John Prats, Rayver Cruz, Maja Salvador, Gemma Fitzgerald, Victor Basa, Gem Ramos, and Tim Espinosa to Nikki Gil’s version of Norah Jones’s "Come Away With Me

John Lloyd Cruz and Pokwang then took the stage for the awarding ceremonies. The power couple of Senator Mar Roxas and Korina Sanchez, together with Anne Curtis and Zanjoe Marudo, were given the Stardust Award for being the best-dressed guests of the night. Star Magic head Johnny Manahan then went up the stage for the turnover of the artists’ donation to KIDS Foundation of Diether Ocampo. The Galaxy Awards were given to Freddie Garcia for his vision and passion to create Star Magic, Charo Santos-Concio for nourishing Star Magic from its inception up to this day, and Gabby Lopez for his trust in Star Magic

After Mr. Lopez’s speech, Martin Nievera led the singing of the birthday song for the ABS-CBN’s Chairman and CEO. Bea Alonzo later proposed a toast to the network’s big boss. The wonderful night ended with a rigodon number of the Star Magic artists, and afterwards, the dance floor remained packed with everyone dancing to hip-hop/disco music. Indeed it was a night filled with magic, making the first Star Magic ball a great success that everyone is now looking forward to the next. The magic continues with ABS-CBN Star Magic!

Be Bench reality-TV on ABS-CBN July 29

Thirty boys and girls discovered in a series of auditions nationwide were introduced to the press yesterday at the Captain’s Bar of Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

“Thousands showed up at the auditions,” said Bench big boss Ben Chan who also announced that his company’s Be Bench/The Model Search reality-TV search will premiere on ABS-CBN next Sunday, July 29, 10:30 p.m. “It will be the biggest reality-TV search ever.”

The search is part of Bench’s 20th-anniversary celebration, to be hosted by Kris Aquino (absent at yesterday’s media event) and Piolo Pascual who hosted the press presentation of the 30 hopefuls with Rica Peralejo.

Aside from Piolo and Rica, other Bench endorsers present were Zanjoe Marudo, Rafael Rossell, Gerald Anderson, Kim Chiu, John Prats, Iya Villania, Christian Bautista, Sam Milby, Rayver Cruz, Alesandra de Rossi (who came with her two younger sisters who are here for a vacation) and a “healthy” Jomari Yllana (accompanied by girlfriend Pops Fernandez).

For 20 years, Bench has influenced the Filipino lifestyle. Its first boutique was opened in 1987, with Richard Gomez leading its first batch of star-endorsers. Being a Bench model-endorser is a sure ticket to
stardom.

“It’s an honor because Bench is the No. 1 retailer in the country,” said Piolo.

Bench has branches in other countries, including California and China.
The Be Bench/The Model Search will run for eight Sundays. The 30 candidates’ abilities will be tested every week as they master the fashion photo shoots, perfect publicity-photo skills and learn the business aspects of becoming the next big thing, all happening in front of the camera.

Throughout the search, a panel of leading fashion industry experts will closely evaluate the progress of the candidates to narrow the field. In addition, special guest judges and surprise celebrity mentors will drop by to give their two-cents’ worth.

Viewers, who can text in their votes, may also watch Studio 23’s weekly specials every Monday and Saturday starting next Monday, July 30.Post-event specials will air on the Lifestyle Network and MYX.

Building dreams with BENCH

FOR multimedia giant Piolo Pascual, being the newest addition to Bench’s roster of endorsers has definitely opened a lot of new doors for him. In celebration of its 20 years, Bench, together with ABS-CBN, is mounting the biggest reality search to ever hit your TV screens, Be Bench/ The Model Search.

After nationwide auditions in Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao with thousands of model-hopefuls and aspiring stars, Bench has selected the 30 most beautiful and promising contestants.

At the press presentation, the candidates looked more like they were in some star search contests because they certainly looked more like teen star wannabes than models. Most of the media members were one in saying that these kids can never be utilized in the famous underwear fashion show which the brand presents once every two years. Perhaps, the search should have been called Bench star search rather than model search.

The search will air for two months on ABS-CBN and will start with 30 young hopefuls. On its exciting first episode, watch as the top 30 semi-finalists are immediately cut down to a dozen contestants. The contestants’ abilities are tested each week as they strive to master the fashion photo shoots, perfect publicity skills and learn the business aspects of becoming the next big thing!

Throughout the series, a panel of leading fashion industry experts will closely evaluate the progress of the models to narrow the field each week. In addition, special guest judges and surprise celebrity mentors will drop by the show to give their two cents worth. Every week, the number will whittle down to reveal the top male and female model.

I'm going to miss making collages for Walang Kapalit.
More than anything, siempre I'll miss watching Piolo in a soap everyday.
But, all good things must come to an end.

maraming inconsistencies. . . maraming palpak . . .maraming tanong na di nasagot

pero maraming times na naka smile :) tayo sa scene/s
maraming times na umiyak tayo at naki emphatize sa situation ng mga charaters nila :mecry:
maraming times na nakipag rally tayo para sa kaligayahan nila ;)

at siyempre, maraming times na pinakilig tayo ni Noel & Melanie :love:

dun sa sinabi ni Noel kay Melanie na "TAPOS NA. . .TAPOS NA". . .nag expect naman ako kahit isang kiss lang. . .pero wala. . .di bale. .. pinakita naman ang mga scenes nina Noel at Melanie until sa time ng kasal nila. . . kaya ilang kissing scenes din iyun :kiss:

I agree with you , Cis, madaming inconsistencies....pero pinabayaan ko na lang. Meron pa nga na 'should have been this and that' ako pero okay pa rin. At marami din na 'bakit ganoon? is that possible?' (noong nanganganak si Melanie na magisa lang siya sa loob ng OR ni walang assistant)...pero inisip ko na minamadali nila ang pagtapos ng soap dahil nga sa kalagayan ni Clau.

The story is really nice ...kung babasahin ang synopsis. Pero , iyong execution ay medyo minadali. Sana ay mas na established ang love nila Noel at Melani ...at hindi na lang iyong lagi silang pinaghihiwalay.

I missed the spunk of a confrontational scene in which Piolo is really good at.

But, seeing Piolo act so well was all worthy of watching the soap. Same goes to Melanie, Cynthia, Ceding and Moody.*okay*

Naiyak ako talaga kanila Noel at Melanie while begging for the safety of Ernest....at naawa ako kay Cynthia when she looked so confused. That scene was so heart gripping....sino ang hindi maaapektuhan doon.

But, I gave out a deep sigh when Cynthia was hanging and told Noel 'i love you, Noel' with no sound but just from the movement of her lips....I saw the whole life of Cynthia flashing there. Mula bata pa hanggang sa huli ay mahal pa nya si Noel.

And the pain (with guilt perhaps) of Noel when he saw Cynthia fall to her death.....that was just too much to bear.

I will really miss NOEL ..... buti na lang at may Adrian pa akong nakareserve. Umpisahan ko na rin panoorin para kapag tapos ko ng mapanood ay seguro naman ay umpisa na ng soap nila Piolo at Angel.

Ayan ngayon....wala na naman akong mapapanood na soap sa gabi. Pati pala iyong SSKMA ay tapos na.....sabi ko pa naman ay ito ang aking tututukan pagtapos ng WK.

Napanood ko nga pala ang B&K epi na guest si Piolo. Eto lang ang masasabi ko .....maski nakakainis si Kris minsan .... ang nagustuhan ko ay consistent siya noon pa man na gusto niya si Piolo. May malisya din seguro siya kay Piolo noon. Ang hindi matatanong ng ibang interviewer ay natatanong niya....at nakakasabi rin siya ng mga dapat hindi sabihin. Like iyong humingi siya ng permiso para magkwento about Piolo's kilig kay Angel at iyong text text na iyon ni Piolo kay Angel. I think na maraming pinagkwekwentuhan itong dalawa during the BeBench show. Eh si Kris madaldal at makulit...kaya seguro napapasagot niya si Piolo.

hindi rin eh. . . nakakainis naman iyun.. . kada may alert ako about MMS. . .bawas na agad ang P5.00 dun. . . bakit di na lang sila magbawas ng fee kapag successful ang pagdating ng MMS

I think they're still in Jordan ( i could be wrong) but after ASAP's live show last sunday, they made us stay (but we escaped bec. we were hungry) apparently they taped as live some segments.

so its possible you will see him on TV, but am not sure if he's in the phils already. anyway backread ka lang may details diyan about mall tours.
