Gusto ko lang itanong sa inyo kung balat-sibuyas nga ba ang mga Bedans? Totoo ba ito o hindi? Since nung lumabas kasi *** issue re Yousif Aljamal e ang dami nang nag-ngangawa na mga Bedista dito at ng kanilang mga supporters.

The MANCOM made a letter dated August 8,2007 and Yousif Aljamal got the letter on August 21,2007. Just a day before the JRU game. What does that tell you of the MANCOM's intention? How would you react if you were treated with such injustice?

Besides, there is no written rule for whatever the MANCOM is accusing Aljamal right now. It's baseless.


To all Bedans, it would be better to just sit back and relax. Let our Bedan Lawyer brothers handle Aljamal's case. There will be a hearing tomorrow.

A lot of people from other schools understand and support the actions taken by San Beda. So I guess that validates SBC's position on the matter. La Salle's case was different. They even gave out a statement that there was "no iota of proof that they cheated." And believe me, there were more violent reactions from Lasallites when the cheating issue came up than Bedan reactions when the Aljamal issue came up. San Beda has reason to feel the way they're feeling now. La Salle, when their issue was raging, was really balat-sibuyas and lashed out at everyone who were questoning their reactions. The big difference: San Beda did not violate any rule. La Salle did.

And i can still remember nung Grade School ako sa Letran.. we were on our way to win our back to back title against who else? JRC! Allow me to be a bit off-topic to answer this... it was trashed for "lack of merit" and it was deemed to have not affected the game. But I think they (LS) were pretty satisfied and contented to know that the UAAP Board admitted that Coach Norman did really commit that dreaded "Black Magic". Plus it paved way for clearer rules. Although you may see the protest as vile and diversionary, looking at the big picture, it helped the UAAP - in terms of league rules and sanctions.

If you go to gameface, you will see the suspension notice posted there. MANCOM didn't even mention what rule was violated. If you are serving that kind of notice, you should specify the rule (e.g. Article III Paragraph 2) that was violated as basis for the decision of the board. No rule was specified in the notice simply because there isn't any. Last year, players from Letran and PCU did what Jamal did but their teams and the players were not penalized. You don't have to be a lawyer that know these procedures. Even simple memos in the offices follow this format. WHEN we switched to Studio 23 to watch the San Beda-Jose Rizal University game last Tuesday, we were pleasantly surprised to see Red Lion’s hotshot Yousif Aljamal in action since the league’s so-called management committee had banned him for the rest of the season.

The reasons cited was Aljamal’s failure to inform the Mancom of his entry into the Philippine Basketball Association Annual Draft and apparently for his participation in games, which were part of the Rookie Camp activities.

For a moment, we thought that good sense had prevailed and the National Collegiate Athletic Association realized its mistake and let the young man play. Instead, it turned out that San Beda obtained a Temporary Restraining Order, which enabled Aljamal to play in what was a crucial game to Jose Rizal University in its bid to earn a place in the Final Four.

To begin with, the attempt by management committees or boards of governors to interfere in the operations of any leagues goes against the grain of ensuring fairness and integrity, since team owners or their representatives obviously have partisan and selfish interests to protect. This is true of the PBA, PBL, UAAP, NCAA or any other league for that matter. That is why the leagues appoint commissioners, who are presumably fair-minded individuals, who don’t favor any team and have no particular interests other than the good of the league as a whole.

“Think League” was the cry of the late, well-loved PBA commissioner Jun Bernardino, who followed the path of independence and fairness, which were espoused by his eminent predecessors and mentors Leo Prieto and Rudy Salud.

The fact that JRU, the host of this year’s NCAA, was playing San Beda in a game that meant so much to them and stood to benefit from the ban on Aljamal made a mockery of the concept of fairness and sportsmanship that we presume is inculcated in the youth by our educational institutions. Whether JRU influenced the Mancom or not is immaterial, because whether they like it not, it looked in very poor taste. Besides, it didn’t speak well of the NCAA itself especially since Aljamal was a key player and proved it beyond doubt in Tuesday’s (sic) game.

The resort to the courts as a means of obtaining justice in a sporting environment runs counter to the very essence of the philosophy that games should be won or lost on the hardcourt or the playing field and never in board rooms, where personal interests override the good of the league. Beyond that, it sets a disturbing trend that all genuine lovers of sport should guard against.

Of course, San Beda was left with no choice but to seek redress in the courts for what seemed like a terrible injustice both to the team and the player by the NCAA management committee, which should, in the first place, merely set the goals and the guidelines and allow its commissioner to run the league and decide on issues of eligibility, violation of rules, etc.

Aljamal had an inherent right to join the PBA Draft and there is no earthly reason why he should have been severely penalized for not informing the NCAA other than it being an act of courtesy. That he played in the Rookie Camp games as a basis for the disqualification rings hollow. The games were not part of a sanctioned tournament and was merely an attempt to size up the skills of the amateur players in the draft.

In the end, Aljamal played, San Beda won as expected despite a pathetic effort of JRU to play dirty at times, which incurred the ire of coach Frankie Lim, and JRU was embarrassed, not so much because they lost but how they tried to win.

you are entitled for that opinion. still there are other school members voted that aljamal should be suspended for the rest of the elimination games. i guess alam din ng san beda na alamal will be applying for PBA. dapat sila na mismo nag initiate ng move sa MANCOM thru their representative to issue a letter. MANCOM should also ask the school if there are true to news that aljamal will be applying for draft.

last year saw a handful playes from the NCAA who applied for the draft and from what i have known is nagpaalam sila sa MANCOM. in fact si espinas nga even played in the finals. paul supan who chair this year MANCOM also asked the views of other schools on what will be the sanctions if rules was been violated like this one and come up with a decision. i don't beleive that supan railroad this case for the benefit of jru. NCAA is composed of 6 schools and each voice is important for making a decision, especially on aljamal's issue.

anyway, this is water under the bridge. san beda issued an public apology and MANCOM will allow aljamal to play in the semifinals and finals. this is just a simple misunderstanding and the good thing it is already been iron out.
