Another epic battle will unfold as rivals San Beda and Letran will once again face each other for the second time this season. This time they are bringing along their juniors counterpart with them. It will be a San Beda-Letran day this coming august 31(Friday) as Red Cubs and Squires will battle as well in the first game.

It was clear that the first round belongs to the squad from Intramurous both in juniors and seniors affair. Now is the time for the fabled Red Lions to turn the favor which they are looking forward since that dramatic 1point loss to Letran. We all know what is at stake every time this two squad meet but there’s more to that this time. Both teams want to secure a twice to beat edge going into the Final Four. A loss will put that to jeopardy since JRU is just around the corner.

Pro-bound Yousif Aljamal will try to lead the pride against the Knights and John Paul Escobal will continue where he left off in their last meeting.

Even with the First round win against San Beda, it will not be easy for the knights to repeat the feat they did last July 25. RJ Jazul will again be the man to watch out for the knights with improved Rey Guevarra and all around player Dino Daa.

Meanwhile the story is not so different in the Juniors division. Both the Red Cubs and the Squires are trying to secure a twice to beat advantage. Both teams are in a scuffle battle in the standings together with defending juniors champs Staglets.

Nico Salva will be the man in the middle for the San Beda Red Cubs and star Point Guard LA Revilla will orchestrate the plays for legendary Red Cubs coach Ato Badolato. Standing on their way will be Squires triumvirate of siblings Kelvin and Kristoffer Alas with John Noble.

Note: San Beda Team Captain Aljamal is still tentative for August 31 game due to the controversial disqualification handed down on him by NCAA ManCom. San Beda and NCAA ManCom is set to settle the issue through court battle.

4. however, a back-to-back loss will relegate letran to the number 3 spot and jru will get the twice-to-beat advantage. if this happens, the final 4 cast will be: #1 sbc vs. #4 mit or ssc-r and #2 jru vs. #3 csjl

IMO, id rather have SBC-Letran in finals. Yes you do play physical and tough but its far away level-headed compared to JRU. Coach Alas physical game is aimed at testing our testing our mental toughness and not to injure our players and the rest of the leauge.

Similar situation as last year. Had Letran won their last game against the RL, they would have clinched the #2 spot vs PCU.

It was also a no-bearing game for Koy Banals wards then, but the match turned out to be a close low-scoring for 3 qtrs hanggang sa tumukod ang Knights in the last canto. A very exciting game that was.

Its deja vu for Letran. This time trying to hold on #2 spot once again with Jru breathing down their necks and meeting the Red Lions in the homestrech.

First of all, nice game to both teams. As expected, exciting at dikit ang laban. Congratulations sa Red Lions lalo na kay Hermida???. Galing ng performance nya.

May joint cheering noong halftime. Pagkatapos noon, nagpalakpakan both sides.

Pagkatapos ng regulation, nagkamayan na ang bench ng RL at LK. Talo kame. Pero ayus naman kasi naging dikit kahit nung huli at deserve ng RL na manalo. Then it happened. IMHO hindi lang both sides (LC & SBC) ang mali, isama mo na MANCOM, Araneta security and both cheering squads. Isa ako sa mga umawat sa Upper B section. Kapwa maiinit ang magkabilang grupo. No offense at no malice intended pero may isang Letranette ang nasuntok sa mukha o dibdib. Though no sense yun kasi nga parehong ang may mali. Ang kinaiinisan ko lang kanina ay parang mga binabae ang security ng Araneta. Nakat@nga lang yung isang guard habang nag-uumbagan na mga Letranites at Bedans. Kung hindi ko pa sinabi na "galaw galaw naman diyan awatin niyo po please" eh walang mangyayari.

Again IMHO parehong may mali. May nang-asar, may napikon, may nambato, may gumanti at may pasaway paawat.

Minura po ng alumni ng San Beda si coach Louie Alas at Asst. Coach Mel Alas, tapos sumugod 'yung alumni ng Letran sa alumni ng San Beda. Both sides may fault. Yung pagmumura nakapagprovoke. Tapos the crowd went wild because of the incident.

Nanalo na nga ang San Beda, bakit nagmura pa ang alumni nila?

At bakit nag-throw ng bottles ang mga Bedan? Kitang-kita na sa kanila nanggaling 'yung bottles. Kaya sumigaw ng squatter ang Letran because of that incident (throwing bottles).

What I am trying to emphasize is that the players and the coaching staffs on both squads should be aware of their actions kasi sa basketball court lang sila bida, outside, pantay pantay na yan. Excellent game by both squads. Jazul was on fire! Buti na lang Hermida came to play during the 4th quarter. Pinabayaan lang nating mag-tres sina Jazul, Guevarra kanina. I honestly think that SBC should've played tough defense on the two. Swerte na lang din ng Letran at pumasok mga tres nila, something which I cannot see happening consistently in the remaining games.

Letran threw anything but the kitchen sink at us, but we still managed to snatch a win. Big three by Hermida. I think, that this game against Letran was our worst three-point shooting game.

Astig talaga pag SBC - LETRAN ang game. Down-the-wire finish lagi.

I read a post asking why there were Bedans on the Letran side of the venue. For everybody's information, hindi sa Letran gallery nangyari ang away, San Beda gallery po yun. I was at 208 lower box kanina, katabi lang yun nung gallery where the melee started. Dun pa nga nakaupo sina Emeka Udo when the game started eh.

And for everybody's info, the old fella who got his face smacked by a Letranite is really innocent. nadamay lang sya talaga.

I won't defend the Bedan alumni who irked Coach Louie, he's probably a low-life imbecile who have more brawns than brains, but for the record, heckling is all part of the game. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

hindi na dapat patulan ang mga ganyang klaseng Bedista. Kaso mo, pinatulan pa. Then, when all hell broke loose, some Bedans threw water bottles, coins etc sa gallery where the fracas occured. Syempre, the Letran crowd joined in as well. To these people, I'd like to call you, "squatters".

For the Bedans who seem so biased in posting here on what REALLY happened awhile ago at the Araneta, please stop. Admit it, our school produced some bad eggs, and with what I witnessed earlier, might still be producing them as we speak.

I won't dare clean Letran's backyard with biased posts, that's their duty. I would be more inclined to think that we have to clean ours.

San Beda leaned on former high school teammates Rogemar Menor, Borgie Hermida and Jay-R Taganas as it survived Letran in a fight-marred 87-84 victory yesterday to clinch the top seeding in the Final Four of the 83rd NCAA basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum.

Menor, Taganas and Hermida, who won a pair of NCAA junior titles during their Red Cubs days, combined for all but two of their team’s 19 fourth quarter points as the Lions roared to their 11th win against a loss to arrange an interesting Final Four duel with the Mapua Cardinals.

The Knights actually had a chance to force an overtime but Dino Daa’s three-point attempt at the buzzer bounced off the rim, triggering a wild celebration by the Lions on and off the court.

“I’m proud of my boys, they showed a lot of effort in getting this win,” said San Beda coach Frankie Lim, bidding to steer the school to its second straight title on his first year as coach.

But a post-game brawl marred the duel between the league’s top two teams as Letran assistant coaches Mel Alas and Tino Pinat slugged it out with some irate San Beda fans at the back of Letran’s bench before security personnel stepped in.

Management Committee chair Paul Supan of Jose Rizal said they will investigate the matter and will come up with a decision that could lead to possible suspension of Alas, brother of Letran mentor Louie, and Pinat.

“We will definitely act on it,” said Supan.
A former high school MVP, Menor exploded with 21 points, two points shy of his season best, while Hermida fired his season-high 17 he highlighted with a triple with 33.5 seconds to go that gave San Beda enough cushion to hold off the Knights’ repeated comebacks.

“He’s really one hell of a player, he’s a gem,” said Lim of Menor.

RJ Jazul led all scorers with 23 points, including six of the Knights’ 11 triples, but they proved not enough to avert Letran’s third loss in 11 outings.

I'm a bedan and i graduated 2 years ago (April 2005) BS Marketing and Corporate Communication... 5 of my blockmates are now currently working in Unilever, they were hired 2 mos after graduation - 2 are now assigned in cebu w a salary of 30kplus... tapos may 3 din akong ibang blockmates na nasa San Miguel na nagttrabaho w/ a good starting position in the said company... *** iba di ko alam kng san sila nagwowork after grad, kc wala sila sa quattro (timog) nung may gathering kame last summer... at ako naman i worked in a real-estate company in makati right after grad at ***** ay nagttraining sa PAL (ab-initio pilot training).. sa clark (omni aviation) na kame this october, hopefully by 2009, i'm gonna be a pilot.. 2nd officer in Philippine Airlines - Asia's first commercial airlines, asia's sunniest and also the flag-carrier of the country!*okay*
