UST RANKS AMONG TOP SCHOOLS IN ACCOUNTANCY

"The Pontifical and Royal University of Santo Tomas was recently named as one of the top performing schools in the May 2007 Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination.

It is ranked number one among schools with 51 to 99 examinees. UST garnered a 70% passing rate against the national passing rate of 30%."

The La Salle is no. 1 overall. UP is the second.

Ever since there were CPA board results, La Salle and UP had always dominated the TOP 20 slots.

ayos to ah..
kakabasa ko lang ng article na to this morning sa site ng ust...

top 1 ang UST sa examinees with 51-99 examinees
while DLSU got the top and only spot in 100 and more examinees

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/examresults/20070529_CPA052907.pdf

I read an online article stated na.. May talaga ang season ng DLSU. while, UST and UPD sa October.

Nung 1960s, nagta-top din ang UE sa CPA board exams. Ewan ko kung bakit wala na sila ngayon.

according to my mom, ue dominated the cpa board exams during the 50s and 60s. when psba started offering undergraduate programs in accountancy and commerce, ue's best accounting professors transferred and made psba one of the dominant schools in the cpa board exams during the 70s, 80s and 90s.

i think only UP-Diliman and Silliman are consistent when it comes to high ratings in CPA exam. followed by DLSU, then UST.

DLSU Accountancy had problems in the past years (early to mid 2000). mababa ang passing rates namin nun compare to UP and UST.

but in recent years, tumataas na ulit ang passing rates ng DLSU and we continuously dominate the MAY season!

Mayroong iba ibang categories po kasi (according to the number of examinees)... and During the October seaason (which is UST's and UP's season), UST always grabs the top spot in it's category (100 or more examinees, with a huge bracket away from the second).

Similarly, UP grabs the top spot in it's own category (51-99 examinees). So it's safe to say that UP and UST are consitent with their performances in the CPA licensure exams, evidenced by their high passing rates.:)

Quents, October 2006 lang yang 53/93. Hindi on average yan. I know the people who topped the May 2006 boards so please don't keep on insisting. The May 2006 batch got something around 75-80 percent. Just PM me and I can show you proof.

Sometimes you have to think before you comment. Read further if needed. Hindi lang yung ratatatat pag nakakita ka ng keyboard at naka-online ka na dito. Naturingang taga-UP ka, dapat marunong ka mag-isip muna bago mo ilagay yang daliri mo sa keyboard. But if you want to believe what you want to, then go on. I just stated my point.

I'm not playing the look-who's-better game. I did not say something about rankings and who's better, I just want to point out that we, as responsible citizens, should screen out and filter out the information we receive before we disseminate it to the public.

I'm not killing anyone for rankings, I just want the correct information to be made known. Besides, sino ba naman ang gustong magbasa ng dyaryo na petsa lang ang tama?

i wish people actually learned to post their sources.

but thats weird: one would think that the higher the number of examinees, the lower the passing percentage for the top ranked school. instead, its the other way around.

:hmm:

pursuing this further though, if one were the lone school in a category, one can say it is the top school in the said category even if his passing rate was measly like, to push the blade deeper, 57%... :evil_lol: thus this thread's title has been judged misleading and, for me, almost a pathetic cry for validation.

therefore, to consider the categories/top ranks as the big picture would be quite... naive, bobo, if you will. one should just look at the percentages for ALL schools, number of examinees notwithstanding. and the school with the highest percentage for 2006, is... what a shocker: UP.:D :D :D

actually.. percentage often deceives...

if only one would able to take the exam from a school and he passed [1/1]... dba 100% passing rate? tsk.. (just a shallow example)

kaya nga may categories based on the number of examinees.. para maconsider ang number who passed in relation with the classification according to the quantity of the examinees..

and about quents' thought about the title of this thread.. well, it doesn't stated there that AMVCoA is the top or best school in accountancy, but rather, it ranks one of the top schools in accountancy.. go figure.

AMV do not claim to be the best and top, but rather one of the top.. try to analyze the statement.

I am a graduate of BSA in UST. FYI, There are two CPA exams in a year. One is scheduled on May and the other is on October. Most graduates from DLSU take the exam in May since their graduation falls on October or November (I am not sure). That's why they have the highest passing percentage during May exams among other schools.

The schools are group into 3: A (less than 50 examinees), B (>50 but < 100) and C (more than 100)

UST, with more than 200 examinees and most of them taking the Oct exams, usually tops the class C. During the last 8 years, UST has been consistently topping the class C, the highest passing rate garnered by UST was 82%. The 2nd school is usually PLM or St Louise with a passing rate of not higher than 36% or half of the total passing percentage of UST students.

Pretty amazing for a Number 4 University in the Philippines.

I'd say make the decision based on FIT, since the programs themselves are fairly similar in terms of recruiting opportunities. They also have an almost identical prestige in the academic world. If you like religion or you're fond of UAAP, you may want to choose UST. If you really like undergrad focused and are saving monay, go for PLM and take great classes business/accountancy...

Yes you can save monay if you go to PLM kasi mas mababa ang tuition. Pero kung graduate ka ng UST at working na you can buy as many Monay as you want. You can even upgrade it to Pan de Sal with palaman cheese whiz pambaon to watch UAAP games.

Going to a school because for religion is somewhat weak and idiotic.

You hold the prestige to yourself at the most part.

^Say what? o_O

Anyway, I'd pick UST between the two if money were not a concern. You can think of it as an investment. But that doesn't mean PLM Accountancy is bad; in fact it's practically outperforming most schools, even the expensive ones.

Correction: If you're a scholar in PLM, you're tuition is 0 pesos. If you're a non-scholar, your TF is relatively lower than most schools.

Between UST and PLM, it depends. If I have the means, I'd go for UST... but if I don't have the money (not monay) for it, I'd go for PLM. Both are good schools, so you'll never go wrong.
