The Rock
Sep 18, 1999, 11:05 PM
The Rock says that there are probably two kinds of driving music: fast, and slow and easy. For fast songs, it has to be "Born to be Wild" by Steppenwolf, and "Dreams" by Van Halen. For easy driving, "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" by Tears for Fears, any song by Basia, and "Friends" by Mike Francis. So what do you say? Tell The Rock what you think!

lately, i've been drivin' around the city listening to bob marley songs, ub40, aswad and awhole collection of reggae songs... listening to reggae helps me forget that i'm stuck in traffic somewhere in the city. i use my imagination and listen to "no woman, no cry", "red, red wine", on & on", etc... kunyari nasa summerplace ako or nasa coco mangas.... sarap...

Whenever I drive, I like to listen to some fast and heavy stuff, like the Deftones for example. I don't wish to listen to slow songs while I'm behind the wheel 'coz it gets me sleepy.
Song: Be Quiet and Drive (Deftones)

It depends, but i usually like to drive to fast, catchy songs, or songs from the groups/artists i like. i like to sing kasi while i'm driving, kaya yon. i usually listen(and sing!) to greenday, offspring, u2, earth wind and fire, basia, or some pang-"giyang" songs like no diggity. cool compilation albums are ok too, like "contagion". it depends on my mood really. pero when im kinda tired na, i listen to slower songs, like chuck mangione's "feel so good" for example. sobrang nakakarelax.

I don't really take long drives but here are some songs that came to mind. Obviously, they all have words related to moving from point A to B:
Fast Car (Tracy Chapman)
Life is a Highway
Roam (the b-52's)
cars (gary numan)
and these just because their upbeat:
i feel good (james brown)
deeper underground (jamiroquai)

Personally, acoustic-guitar driven songs are fun to drive to, but R&B tracks as well as collegiate pop songs are fun. Some songs I keep in my mom's car (since I don't have a car) are Shooter's "Life's a *****," Indigo Girls' "1200 Curfews" and The Best of Stock, Aitkin and Waterman. I also dub stuff into CDs and Cassettes from artists like Mariah Carey, Fatboy Slim, Martha Wash, CeCe Peniston and C&C Music Factory.

U2's "Where the Streets Have No Name," REM's "It's the End of the World," Queen's "Bicycle," & Pearl Jam's "Rearview Mirror" - fast
Enya's "Carribean Blue," Yanni's "Swept Away" & "Aria" and The Beatle's "Two of Us" from their Let it Be Album - easy, relaxing
GunsNRoses' "Patience" - slow, kailangan pag-nata-traffic - & Elton John's "Skyline Pigeon"

REM's everybody hurts.... i am reminded of the mtv, which is very nice...and a scene where everyone's stuck in traffic
depends on the scenery and way i'm driving
if im cruising and surrounded by beautiful scenery-- yanni and enya
if i'm in a rush-- fantasy by ewf, dreams by van halen and cliffs of dover by eric johnson
easy driving sa city-- feels so good by chuck mangeone

Whenever I used to hear "can i get a.." by jay-z, the car would bounce up and down and the driver behind me would usually have his kilay up. I like hearing sugar ray too.

Reviving this topic.
We drove from Manila to La Union with that Milli Vanilli tape popped in and by the time we got there, I've memorized the lyrics to 'Girl You Know It's True'. Also had a similar experience here with Shanice's 'I Love Your Smile' endlessly playing on the background until I realized that there's a Spyro Gyra in my compartment. It's all 'Morning Dance' from then on. :lol"

I don't drive...but if I'd be driving, there's one song that I'd love to listen to over and over again while dealing with the idiots on the road...
"DEAD SKIN MASK" (Slayer)
The last part is my favorite...brings out the psycho in me...
For general driving situations, I'd listen to anything metal, indie, punk, or anything reminiscent of my high school/early college days...
