Rica Peralejo’s energy recharges for ‘Spirit Of The Glass’

Thanks to a clear-white semi-pyramid shaped crystal that was given to her by her spirit questor friends, Rica Peralejo was able to recharge her energy and ward off evil spirits!

Television’s sexy host and performer of shows like "ASAP," "EK Channel" and "Ok, Fine, Whatever" became aware of her weird energy-draining experience when she first did her first horror movie role in "Malikmata" under Cannary Films. Immersing herself into the underworld through "Malikmata" has also somewhat opened her so-called third eye. She recalls that in some occasions, even after leaving their set, she would feel that a ghost or a spirit was still with her. She said she couldn’t even relax while taking a bath at night during the shooting of "Malikmata."

Her spirit questor friends instructed her that she just had to acknowledge their (spirits) presence when she felt they’re around, or she could even talk to them. And when her energy was depleted from any paranormal experience, she only had to hold her crystal, close her eyes and to also pray. And this has always worked for her, the actress shared.

Despite her unexplainable experiences while doing "Malikmata," Rica still agreed to do another horror movie under Cannary Films and with Joey Reyes at the helm. Her previous leading men, Dingdong Dantes and Marvin Agustin, joined her too in the said project.

"I love working with Joey and his crew, napakabait nilang tao. Plus Boss Orly’s Cannary Films means more to me than just business. They’re my friends. Gustong-gusto ko ring mag-work sa pelikula na marami kami, miss na miss ko na. Noong bata pa ako nasanay ako na marami kami lagi, but when I shifted to mature roles, naging mag- isa na ako. Nakakalungkot minsan sa set na dalawa or tatlo lang kayo. Masarap na marami kayo. This is a group movie and it’s very light. I need to do this for myself," she explained.

In "Spirit of the Glass," Rica Peralejo plays Kelly the rich girlfriend of Chappy (Dingdong Dantes). Because their trip to Boracay was cancelled, they just visited her ancestral house with friends. Despite her caretaker’s warning that they shouldn’t play with the Quija board, two of her younger companions broke the rule. This opened doors for the spirits of the dead to enter the ancestral house - and their lives! - making it a horrifying and uncontrollable vacation!

Even with two consecutive Metro Manila Film Festival horror films, Rica is not accepting the "horror-queen" title. She jests that that title rightfully belongs to her director Joey Reyes. Having her movies released during the annual MMFF wasn’t planned. She is happy though that the success of "Malikmata" last year meant she is accepted once again in the wholesome genre.

Rica ever since her heyday as a screen vixen has moved beyond baring flesh into more self-fulfilling movie and TV projects. She stressed that she doesn’t feel old for the job but she just doesn’t have the same drive anymore to venture into another skin-flick.

Aside from her regular TV shows, she’s busied herself with shows here and abroad. She has just finished her successful solo US Tour a month ago and is scheduled for more next year. She described her shows in the States as very fulfilling as she saw how elated and satisfied her Fil-Am audiences were.

"Alam mo naman ako, hard working. So I really performed hard for them. My repertoire included love songs, songs by Christina Aguillera, Beyoncé, Britney Spears and even novelty songs. I’m also a comic on stage. Siyempre it is a nice feeling to see your audience laughing!"

Below, Rica plays a make-shift "Spirit of the Glass" with me as we spell out her name.

Q: Letter R. Given the chance who would you like to see REINCARNATED?

Why?

A: Probably JFK because I want to know if he knows who really killed him. If ever he survived, ano kaya ang ginagawa niya ngayon. And ano kaya pinag papatuloy niya ngayon and ano kaya nangyari sa buhay niya ngayon.

Q: Letter I. Whose dead spirit would you like to INTERVIEW and what’s the first question you’ll ask?

A: Siguro I’d like to ask Pael, my friend who died a few years ago, kung okay na ba siya ngayon. Hindi ako mausisang tao pero gusto ko lang itanong kung okay siya.

Q: Letter C. Which CATHOLIC Saint would you like to talk to and what question would you ask? Why?

A: Mother Theresa, gusto kong itanong sa kanya what brought her, kasi lahat may calling, anong nangyari sa kanya bakit naging ganung kalakas ang faith niya, was it because she got lonely, depressed or meron lang light na nag-shine along her way. And I want to know how she sustained that without failing and in spreading the Word without turning off a lot of people...sobrang mahal ko si Mama Mary and madasaling tao ako. Faith kasi you don’t see it and you don’t have proof pero you believe in it. Whatever your religion is, I admire you kasi may pinaniniwalaan kang higher sa yo. Tignan mo naman it kept her alive and a living saint nga tawag sa kanya. Habang nabubuhay siya napractice niya lahat yun and inalay niya buong buhay niya sa pananampalataya niya...eventually go to an organization mas masarap feeling siguro pero now i’m just starting within myself siguro para ma-perfect ko muna yung sa sarili ko before I invite others.

Q: Letter A. Name things you would still like to ADD in your life?

A: G5 na bagong powerbook! (laughs) More faith I guess, more prayers, more knowledge about a lot of things, wisdom sa buhay. I’m in the stage right now that I want to learn kahit ano pa yan, sa puso, sa utak, sa katawan, spiritual gusto ko in all aspect. Para akong sponge as of now, I want to absorb.

Q: Here’s an alternate question for the letter A: Name three ASPECTS of your persona that make you sexy.

A: Sabi nila my butt. Pero siguro sa mga lalaki boobs ko. I think my butt is better than my boobs. I guess my arms too are sexy because they never get big. They’re always thin and long. I guess yung uka ko sa likod before you’re butt is also sexy. The whole back tapos yung curve. When I wear sexy clothes, mas nagiging sexy ako pag nakikita mga yun.

Q: Letter P. Name a PERSON you would like to play Spirits of the Glass with and why?

A: I’d like to play it with BJ kasi yung taong yan he can see. Mas bukas yung kanya than mine. He is better handling those things like that kasi ako duwag. Or he can ask the right questions.

Q: Letter E. With what you have achieved, what EXCITES you still in

showbiz?

A: In those 11 years, what I learned from it and will learn pa which you can’t learn in any kind of school. Kahit ilang taon na sa school ang mga pamangkin ko hindi nila matututunan ng basta-basta lang. For example, yung craftmanship, showmanship and siguro ang pinaka talento namin kung papaano mahuli ang kiliti ng mga tao na hindi mo nakukuha overnight. And you learn it through years of experience pati yung kind of training that we have. Sabi nila sa theatro mas malala ang training lets say sa tao pero kami may kasama kami kahit puso na-tratrain namin na dito wag kang masasaktan. Sabi nga nila dapat matibay sikmura mo para you can stomach everything. I think that’s what excites me that I learn a lot from this business which you can’t learn from school.

Q: Letter R. What about RICA’s future, would you like to find out from a spirit and why?

A: Gusto kong malaman kung makakapag-asawa pa ako or tatandang dalaga (laughs).

Q: Wala ka bang confidence sa ganda mong yan?

A: Alam mo kasi yung ganda, I think it doesn’t matter. What matters is who you are and if you find the perfect match for that. I’m kinda idealistic kasi. Kung meron bang magmamatch sa personality ko kasi medyo strong ang personality ko that there’s a tendency that I usually turn-off those around me especially the guys, intimidated or scared. I’m a strong womam and I got it from my mom and hard worker pa ako. And it is not that I’m saying that no one’s good enough but hindi ko alam kung may makakasundo pa ba ako. Sometimes I feel lucky already with what God has given me already in my life baka mamaya sabihin na lang niya sa akin na magpakatandang dalaga ka na lang and take care of your pamangkins.

Q: Letter A. What kind of ACTING job would give you the most fulfillment and what would not?

A: What would be siguro kapag binigyan ako ng other roles na tipong edad ko na nagkaanak, na very realistic. What is happening about the woman of today. It’s going to excite me and interest me. Kasi medyo mahilig ako sa relevant na issues. Bagay sa aking state ngayon and my career what wouldn’t be is baring again, showing flesh.

Q: Letter L. What about your LIFE, what would you like to find out?

A: Gusto ko lang malaman kasi makulit ako sa answer sa why. Lahat naman ng tao may tanong na why sa buhay niya like why is this happening in my life. Then eventually you find out or could connect the dots after many years. You just can’t help asking why is this happening to you or if you’ve done something before that’s backfiring now.

Q: Letter E. What is Rica’s definition of ENDURANCE in showbiz and in life?

A: In showbiz, if you can stomach everything that comes with it. Showbiz is a dirty job nanggagamit at may gumagamit, magagamit ka. Para ma-endure mo yan, para matutunan mong tawanan ang mga bagay na walang kwenta sa showbiz kung baga yun ang endurance. Yung di ka na nagbrebreak after sometime na iiyak ka na lang dahil sa ilang ganito lang. For life, you need faith. Kung hindi malakas faith mo you can’t endure. If you don’t believe you can commit mistakes.

Q: Letter J. What was your hardest JOURNEY in life this year? Why and how did you face and overcome it?

A: I guess the process of breaking-up with BJ was very very hard for me. We were hitting almost four years and it was not an easy thing as we all know. Up to now hindi pa rin ako fully recovered. Sabi nga nila it doesn’t reflect on my face or in my work. Ang description ko nga sa sarili ko is that I’m the only one who can crack a joke in the middle of a crisis. I make fun of things para hindi ako masiraan ng bait. That’s my hardest journey up to now it is going on and it won’t stop. I’m kinda in that soul searching thing right now. What am I here for? Can I do something for other people too?

Q: So what’s the hardest lesson you learned from this relationship?

A: That it is easier to forgive and forget somebody who has done you wrong na tipong nambabae, and never loved you. Kasi mas madaling i-accept yun. The hardest lesson I learned from BJ was that it was the first time I loved and siya rin sa akin. Of course you can’t live with love alone. It is not true that love will keep you alive. Maraming factors pa yan...walang matinding fault. Kailangang mag break right now.

Q: Letter O. What OUTRAGEOUS thing would you like to discover and why?

A: Gusto yung ginawa ni Tipi sa Discovery Channel, very brilliant kid who could play with wolves. Yun ang gusto kong magawa, to connect with the wild animals. Something outrageous for me is to actually have a lion as my pet!

Q: Why a lion?

A: Kung every human beings may good and bad side, lions have one too. I’m not saying they are pet-like but it would be nice to tame them, have a pet to love you forever and at the same time protect you!

Pero wala na naman siya sa EK Channel na isa pang showbiz oriented show. Papalitan siya sa nasabing show ni Toni Gonzaga na magkakaroon ng sariling portion.

Sabi ni Rica, isa ‘yun sa kino-consider niyang therapy after niyang makipag-hiwalay kay Bernard Palanca, ang maging abala sa pagho-host.

Pormal na ipinakilala sa entertainment press si Rica as host ng SN1 last Thursday night sa isang bar sa Tomas Morato.

Nagkaroon muna ng fashion show ang mga bagong correspondents nila sa SN1 - na mga bagets.

Sa pagpasok ni Rica, magiging six times a week na siyang mapapanood dahil regular co-host din siya sa ASAPMania every Sunday.

Pero kahit ganoon siya kaabala sa TV, magiging busy din naman siya sa paggawa ng movie na may tentative title na Ballroom Dancer. Tapos may gagawin pa siyang teleserye sa ABS-CBN na sisimulan na niya very soon.
