HI!
What's the best school for aspiring interior designers in the Philippines wishing to work in design firms local and abroad?

UP Diliman has a long tradition of producing great interior designers. The problem with UP ID's program is the admission system which is through UPCAT. ID is more of a knack like fine arts or theatre arts, rather than a hard-core, liberal arts oriented course. So, UPCAT is likely not the best screening system for the course.

If you can't get into UP because you got smashed by the school's stupid admission method, there's PSID in Makati which is somewhat reputable amongst the ID circles and has a lenient (or very lenient) entrance requirements.

Interior design is more related to fine arts rather than to humanities. As to the issue of comparison on the level of difficulty amongst the given specialty fields, I cannot comment on it.

But the fine arts and the arts, in general, (performing, visual, installation, photography, culinary, etc.) are considered to be part of the humanities.

Thanks for telling me that, SUX2BU; i never actually thought they're that closely connected. (I never even expected that they are connected.) Maybe you can share to us what humanities is and what covers this subject.

There are a few colleges (mostly liberal) that I know whose business and management programs are placed under the School of Social Sciences & Humanities. By telling me the above information, somehow I'm beginning to think that management is also a part of the humanities.

Of course, intro to humanities is broad since it usually covers the survey and appreciation of representative examples of the various disciplines such as philosophy, languages, history, music or the performing arts.

The supercourse in ancient times was music. It included most of the fine arts, the performing arts, the humanities, mathematics and most physical sciences. I think the only subjects excluded were philosophy and theology.

Interestingly, logic was part of the "trivium" or the three ways (grammar, rhetoric, and logic/dialectic) in medieval education; on the other hand, astronomy geometry, music, and arithmetic were considered the preparatory courses for a more serious study of religion and philosophy.

With the onset of the industrial age, there arose a new supercourse: architecture. The creative process came from the fine arts but the realization depended on hard mathematics and science.

Can you think of one course today that's just a spin-off of architecture? Start with civil and geodetic engineering.

SUX2BÜ

Modern architecture, where industrial design has originated from (a "spin-off" if you will), is a synthesis of craft, art, and technology, of course.

there are interior design graduates who have put up their
own consulting firms. some have ended up working as sales
consultants for manufacturers of building materials. others
have become furniture designers, product designers, and
even artists in advertising firms.

the important thing is you are able to do what you really
love to do. if interior designing is your passion, then go for
it. when i first held a paintbrush in my hand i knew that i'd end
up as a designer and artist, and i did.

wow thanks for the inputs... really need inspiration on this ..

correct me on this one..they're saying kasi that the industry is overpowered by architects...so there's really no demand for interior designers..

i heard that they're offering a 2 yr program in PSID..certification lang ata... will that make me eligible to take the board exam,if ever, given that I dont have a diploma in that field?

ang alam ko
ang UP Interior Design is more on related sa Architecture (may hardcore architecture subjects sila na wala sa ibang ID schools)
weird lang kasi ang UPID ay nasa College of Home Economics sa UPD
more on family and community service sila

ang UST Interior Design is more on FIne Arts (CFAD)
magagaling sila magrender at magdrawing

kung board exams ang paguusapan, check niyo yung board exams sa period ng mga 5-10 years hindi sa isang taon lang,

pero ang top schools talaga ay UP at UST
sila yung nagiging professionals, sila yung nasa industry
yung mga nagboard exam

for freelancers naman madaming taga PSID dun.

so if you want to be an Interior Designer
take the board exam first bago ka matawag na interior designer

di naman decoration ng ID eh

better take the good schools
di man sila yung laging binabanggit sa mga tv shows or magazines
sila naman yung nagtatagal at nagtatagumpay sa industry
