Ateneo team off to Washington, DC for Jessup 2007
:)
The Ateneo Law School Team will represent the Philippines in the forthcoming 2007 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in Washington, DC after prevailing in the Philippine national rounds held on Feb. 22-23, 2007 in Bacolod City.
Leading during the preliminary rounds, the Ateneo team overcame the teams from the UP College of Law and the Far Eastern University-De La Salle University JD-MBA Consortium. Ateneo beat rival UP in the final round and was adjudged Best Team and Best Applicant’s Memorials (Written Pleadings).
Sponsored by the law firm Sherman & Sterling and the International Law Students Association, the Jessup Cup is an annual international law moot court competition which centers on a dispute between hypothetical countries brought before a mock International Court of Justice. This year’s dispute aptly concerns the law on international organizations.
Each year, about 500 law schools from more than 90 countries participate in the Jessup Cup. Over the last four years, Ateneo has had the honor of sending its teams thrice to Washington CD — in 2003, 2004, and 2005. In 2004, Ateneo proudly brought home the coveted Jessup Cup.
The 2007 Ateneo Jessup Team is composed of Ateneo Society of International Law (ASIL) members Timothy John Batan, Mae Divinagracia, Cecille Mejia, Christian Danielle Pangilinan, and Patrick Simon Perillo. It is coached by lawyers Frederick Ryan Castillo (JD ’05), Mark Leinad Enojo (JD ’04), and Aris Gulapa (JD ’03), with Rosalie Ramirez (JD ’06) as assistant coach.
The ASIL continues to strive for excellence in the field of public international law by providing a venue for Ateneo law students to become world class lawyers.:)
