From Dr. Rodrigo's (Department of Information Systems and Computer Science Chair) Blog:

"The good news spilled over to today: the Commission on Higher Education (the Philippines' regulatory body for tertiary ed) just declared DISCS a Center of Excellence in information technology! This is the highest level of recognition that the CHED gives. They have awarded COE status to many departments in the Ateneo. It was only last year that they opened up applications for COE status for the field of IT. We applied and we got it!

I have to thank all the faculty and the staff for their hard work. This was a team effort. We got here together.

I also have to thank our student assistants, Krizia, Kate, Erin, and Justin, for preparing such excellent documentation.

Finally, I have to single out Dr. Luis Sarmenta. He is really the one responsible for bringing in our high-profile, high-impact projects. He is the one who hit the high notes for us, and for this I am really grateful.";)

Ano ba talaga? Is it because of their being nurturing persons, life-long learners, and heroic leaders? Or is it because of the student assistants' excellent documentation and Dr. Luis Sarmenta's being responsible for bringing in high-profile, high-impact projects, and hitting the high notes?

Anyway, whatever it is, congrats, ateneo!

*okay*

Does anyone know of a website where there are listed all current CHED COEs and CODs, distinguishing between the two categories?

Thanks for any information.

Thanks. I know this link, but I can't find on it a list which distinguishes between COEs and CODs.

A totally unwarranted response.

I am interested in finding out more about Philippine Higher Education. As such, a list of current COEs would be very useful in seeing how universities are improving - or not, as the case might be.

The latest news certainly seems to show that the Ateneo is improving its overall academic status - and it deserves congratulations for doing so. What is the situation with regard to other universities?

The list seems to have been last updated in February 2001. Not exactly reliable now ("Baguio Colleges Foundation" is now called "University of the Cordilleras", etc).

it would be good if the threadstarter would post the link going to the original source of that information.

otherwise i won't take it as something authentic. much better if the information was directly taken from CHED.

tumaas kaya ang ranking ng ateneo sa THES and other reputable agencies dahil dito?
